Normani Shared A Short Film Trailer For Her Debut Album, ‘Dopamine (First Dose)’

The rollout for Normani’s long-awaited solo debut album has begun at last, with the singer sharing “Dopamine (First Dose)” a trailer/short film previewing Dopamine ahead of its impending release. Incorporating archival video from a space shuttle launch, clips from Normani’s “1:59” video with Gunna, and behind-the-scenes footage from the album cover photo shoot, the trailer aims to increase both hype for the album and the heart rates of viewers with its racy glimpses of Normani’s future videos.

Normani has been teasing Dopamine‘s release for what seems like years; you can go all the way back to 2022 to see fans complaining about the wait for her solo debut. For reference, she told Ciara at the end of 2021 that the album was “almost done,” yet only announced a release date last month.

But perhaps she can be forgiven for taking her time and insisting on complete creative control. In a recent interview early this month, she compared her time in the girl group Fifth Harmony to a prison sentence, with negative fan attention singling her out as the “token Black girl” in the group. “I was fearing for my life,” she said of the response from fans, which included death threats.

But in just a few more weeks, Normani will get the opportunity to shine on her own terms; Dopamine is out 6/14 via RCA. You can find more information here.

Gunna’s ‘One Of Wun’ Tracklist Features Normani, Offset, Roddy Ricch, And Leon Bridges

Although Gunna’s last album, A Gift & A Curse, firmly reestablished his position in hip-hop as one of its foremost hitmakers, it was also his first album with no guest stars. Whether that was Gunna’s choice or not, it certainly lent credence to the speculation that he was persona non grata in the rap world as a result of taking an Alford plea to secure his release from jail.

However, his new album, One Of Wun, might just put an end to that speculation, as its tracklist reunites him with two of his most frequent collaborators in Offset and Uproxx cover star Roddy Ricch — who have both been through some rough patches of their own, if we’re being honest. In addition, R&B singers Leon Bridges and Normani will both appear on the album, suggesting that Gunna will be aiming to expand his appeal now that he’s regained firmer footing.

You can see the full tracklist below. One Of Wun is due on May 10 via Young Stoner Life Records / 300 Entertainment.

1. “Collage”
2. “One Of Wun”
3. “Neck On A Yacht”

7. “Treesh”
8. “On One By Tonight”

17. “Let It Breathe” Feat. Roddy Ricch

Normani Compared Her Time In Fifth Harmony To A ‘Prison Sentence’: ‘I Was Fearing For My Life’

Normani is laying it all out on the table. Ahead of her long-awaited solo debut album, Dopamine, the “1:59” singer opened up in an interview with The Cut.

Of course, many fans are wondering about her time in Fifth Harmony. While Normani expressed gratitude for her journey with the group, she compared her time in the group to a “prison sentence,” according to the magazine.

When first starting out, Normani was happy to be among four other girls.

“I didn’t want to be at the forefront,” she said. “It wasn’t until later that I started feeling like a token.”

Following an interview in 2016, during which, Normani called her then-bandmate Camila Cabello “cute” and “quirky,” which fans interpreted as a slight. After the comment, Cabello’s fans flooded social media with racist drawings and death threats targeted toward Normani.

“We just continued to do shows, and I was fearing for my life,” Normani said. “But they continued to put me out there on the stage. It was pretty much like, ‘The show goes on.’”

The buzz is high for Normani’s solo debut, which she’s been teasing for almost six years. And with over 12 years in the industry, we’re certain she’ll have more stories to share within the music.

Normani & Gunna Cannot Resist Each Other On Sensual Lead Single “1:59”

Normani fans have been starved, dehydrated, and all the above waiting for her debut solo album. It has been teased and in the works for years at this point, but not much was known about it. That was up until February when the former Fifth Harmony vocalist revealed the project’s artwork and title. She also began teasing music from it just weeks ago, but the reception was not great. But Normani still has people ready for what she can do on her own with its lead single “1:59” featuring Gunna.

Her supporters might also be thrilled to know that Genius has Dopamine listed for a June 14 release date. That appears to be the confirmed date as well, as Normani has “DOPAMINE THE ALBUM JUNE 14” in her Instagram bio. “1:59” sees the Georgia natives serenade each other, with Gunna even taking on an auto tuned singing and rapping flow. It does not sound too off-putting for those who had doubts about how he would fit on a slow-mo R&B cut.

Normani’s Long-Awaited Debut Album ‘Dopamine’ Has A Release Date At Long Last

Ever since Fifth Harmony went on hiatus in 2018, fans have been waiting for Normani to drop her debut solo album. She has delivered the top-10 singles “Love Lies” with Khalid and “Dancing With A Stranger”” with Sam Smith, but as of 2024, fans are still waiting for the album.

That’s about to change soon, though. In February, Normani, at long last, announced that her debut album is called Dopamine, and that it is set for a 2024 release. Now, we have more concrete release date info.

Today (April 26), Normani shared “1:59,” a new single featuring Gunna. Alongside that song came confirmation that Dopamine is scheduled for release on June 14.

In a February interview with Who What Wear, Normani said of the album, “For me, this upcoming album is not just about music coming out. It feels like a representation of everything I’ve gone through to get to this moment. I know I needed time, experiences, and space coming out of [Fifth Harmony] in order to become the version of myself I needed to be. Without [all of that], I would not be able to exist within the creative space that I am in now. I would not be able to make the type of music I’m making now.”

Normani And Gunna Make Sultry Plans On ‘1:59,’ Normani’s Lead Single From ‘Dopamine’

Normani has given new meaning to long-awaited. Her fans have been waiting for her debut full-length studio album for five-plus years, and she finally announced Dopamine alongside its cover art in February. By late March, an X (formerly Twitter) user circled back with Normani about the silence since her album announcement, to which Normani replied that she’d address the matter the following day, and she did — announcing the lead single “1:59” featuring Gunna would arrive on April 26.

As promised, “1:59” is here. Plus, Normani finally confirmed that Dopamine will be released on June 14. As it were, the slow-burning R&B banger finds Normani just as tired of waiting around as her fans. “When I get you alone / Boy, what you gon’ do with it?” Normani sings, her vocals as strong as ever. “Don’t talk too much, just do this sh*t.” Gunna’s sings back to her, promising “You gon’ like the things I do.”

The sultry song is Normani’s first release since she collaborated with Sam Smith on the 2019 earworm “Dancing With A Stranger,” which peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. Meanwhile, Gunna is 10 days removed from announcing One Of Wun as his next album.

While “1:59” is the official lead single from Dopamine, Normani gave a taste of “Candy Paint” in a Bose ad last summer.

Normani Previews Snippet From Long-Awaited Album, But Fans Aren’t Messing With It

Overall, Normani has been an artist who fans have been dying to hear from again. The former Fifth Harmony member has been dropping loosies and singles since 2018. However, none of them have landed on an album. Her fan’s anticipation for this debut solo project has been building since that year and it makes sense. She has proven to be a formidable vocalist and someone that can definitely pull in numbers for the R&B genre. However, with all of this time in between that promise of a solo effort, it appears that fans are growing tired of waiting and waiting. Case and point are the reactions that Normani has received for her new snippet.

The Neighborhood Talk reshared a clip from Normani previewing some music from Dopamine. The lyrics of, “Bling bling blaow,” along with the club-friendly beat are turning a lot of people off. One fan comments, “Bling bling who?!?!? Normani babe we trying but cmon.” Another chimes in, “This would’ve been fire in 2008.” Additionally, someone else goes, “At this age, I am not singing out bling bling blou… I’m just not doing it.”

It seems like the last time fans were truly excited about Dopamine was when she announced that title and its accompanying artwork. That happened back in February of this year on her Instagram. “Cryingg typing this rn. DOPAMINE THE ALBUM.” However, Normani never included the release date and still did not in March when fans were reaching out asking for some other news on the album.

What are your thoughts on this new snippet from Normani’s upcoming album? Do you disagree with the majority’s reaction to the song, why or why not? For those who held their breath until Normani released new music, you can take that well-deserved deep exhale. Yesterday (March 22), the singer took to her official X (formerly Twitter) page to tease that a major announcement regarding her long-awaited debut album, Dopamine, would arrive today.

As promised, today (March 23), Normani announced the title, release date, and featured artist of the project’s forthcoming lead single. So, come April 26, the body of work’s first taste, “1:59,” will shut down the doubters.

For now, not much else is known about the upcoming track. But after several false album rollout starts filled with bangers such as 2019’s “Motivation” and 2021’s “Wild Side” featuring Cardi B, this news is just the reassurance fans needed. The time of clapping back at trolls online for claiming “she’s not hungry” for music anymore is behind her. Normani is locked in, so supporters will continue to hope.

During a sit-down with Who What Wear Normani, she discussed the project’s sonic vision. “The album feels like a liberation and like a season of freedom,” she said. “Not just because the record is finally coming out, but because it’s a celebration of everything [she] has been through to get to this moment.”

Since Normani stepped away from Fifth Harmony and made waves in 2019 with her song “Motivation,” followed by a handful of other singles, fans have been waiting to hear what else she has in store — especially when it comes to a debut album.

Over the past few years, Normani herself has hinted at it, telling followers on social media that she had her album’s title back in 2018, but no update ever came.

Then, last month, Normani shocked the internet by releasing the title of her album, Dopamine, and the cover of it. However, she did not provide an official release date, which has re-sparked speculation of whether her new music will arrive soon.

Here’s what to know.

Will Normani Release New Music In 2024?

As of right now, it’s hard to say, but hope is not entirely lost. Normani recently responded to a fan on social media after they jokingly used business lingo to see if there was any update on her new album.

“Hi, Thank you for your patience,” Normani replied. “This matter will be addressed tomorrow at 1:59 p.m. EST. – Management.”

While it’s still unclear exactly what fans can expect tomorrow afternoon, it could be a lead single or even a hopeful release date. One thing is for sure, though, and it’s that many are excitedly waiting to see what she has planned.
