Last year, Tory Lanez was sentenced to ten years behind bars for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot. Since then, the performer and his legal team have been hard at work trying to overturn his conviction. While this has proven to be no easy feat, Lanez hasn’t let this discourage him and continues to push for the verdict he’s hoping for.

Luckily for fans, he also hasn’t let his prison stay stop him from dropping new music. Today, he unveiled two new tracks from his recently announced Prison Tapes series, “Cell 245” and “Wish I Never Met You.” So far, Lanez’s latest arrivals have received mostly positive feedback. Many also point out the songs’ impressive sound quality, despite being recorded through a jail phone.

Tory Lanez Drops New Music From Behind Bars

“Given that the vocals were recorded through a jail phone, the sound quality is actually impressive. Tory Lanez really made it work under those conditions,” one X user notes. “Tory Lanez really got some cr*zy quality on this song. You dead can’t even tell he did this over a prison phone,” another says. Lanez did appear confident in his ability to emulate the same quality he was achieving when he was out when he announced the project earlier this week. Nonetheless, fans are amazed.

“After about 20-something to 30-something f*ck-ups and mistakes, me and my engineer have finally figured out how to record music over the jail phone and still keep the quality as professional as I had it on the street,” he declared at the time. “It’s over. I done cracked the f*cking code, man. This means that not even these prison walls can stop me from dropping new music. Drake Gets Booed At Limp Bizkit Concert In Toronto

Drake’s year keeps getting worse. The rapper attended nu-metal band Limp Bizkit’s show in Toronto on July 24. The band is on their Loserville tour, which started on July 16. During the show, frontman Fred Durst told the audience that Drake was there, to the chagrin of the crowd.

“I thought Drake was your homie,” said Durst to a booing audience. “Drake’s my homie.” He dedicated the next song to him. Fans noted that Drake’s and Limp Bizkit’s fanbases probably do not align. “I doubt many Drake fans and Limp Bizkit fans are synonymous with one another,” said one X user. “I wasn’t expecting them to like him, but it’s still funny that it happened in Toronto,” said another user. “Welp, guess Drake is gonna take a selfie with oversized pants, a Korn T-shirt and a box of biscuits,” said a third user. That is referring to Drake’s petty streak, which continued recently when ScHoolboy Q’s Toronto concert was canceled amid a feud with Q’s close friend Kendrick Lamar.

The reception from Drake’s hometown crowd is the latest in what will go down as a nightmarish 2024 for him. The feud with Kendrick Lamar ended with Lamar’s “Not Like Us” becoming the biggest song of the year, a far cry from the result of Drake’s battle with Meek Mill. Though he released music this year, appearing twice on Camila Cabello’s latest album, he is yet to produce a hit in the way he previously has. His own tracks toward Lamar did not go over well with the public. Now, he’s getting booed in the place that born and raised him.

Drake reportedly has new music on the way. He appeared on producer Gordo’s album DIAMANTE, which released on Friday morning, delivering songs in the same vein as those from Honestly, Nevermind, Drake’s 2022 pivot into house music. There has not been a year without a Drake project of some kind since 2014. It is likely that he will come out with a new album before the end of 2024 as he attempts to win the public back over. Maybe he should start with his home fans first.

The “Not Like Us” music video will go down as one of the most iconic set of visuals for the genre, as it was highly anticipated for weeks and turned out to be one heck of a victory lap moment. It is littered with references to previous Drake jabs, showing how much care went into putting this all together. What is wild is that new connections are still being made all this time later.

According to HipHopDX, a Twitter thread from the acclaimed Dissect Podcast is going viral for discovering a deep tie to actress and former model, Milla Jovovich. You’re probably at a total loss just like we were when we first saw this but check this out. Fair warning though, this is currently speculation and is not yet confirmed. But the shot where Kendrick is sitting on the prison bed is a supposed recreation of a 1997 photo with Milla Jovovich. However, it goes much further than that. When the Resident Evil movie star was younger, she was entangled in some underage debacles.

In the mid 1980s’, when Milla was just about 11, she was “discovered” by a French model agency manager by the name of Jean-Luc Brunel. This led her to a very early modeling career. Where things get even creepier is that he was accused of raping a child and supplying young girls to the infamous Jeffrey Epstein. It appears all of those allegations were true because before Brunel’s trial, he decided to hang himself. Dissect also mentioned how Milla was seen nude in a film at 15, was briefly married to 21-year-old at 16, and married a director who was dating a 15-year-old girl prior when he was 32. If you remember, Kendrick raps about cell block one in that scene in the video, making this connection all the more believable.

DaBaby responded to Soulja Boy’s Instagram live shade. Soulja Boy has been in the news recently for several things. The most recent issue came up on his Instagram live stream, where he went on a lengthy rant against social media personality and comedian B. Simone. During the rant, he took a swipe at DaBaby, seemingly unprompted.

“You’re mad because I turned you down […] I’m not DaBaby,” said Soulja Boy at the end of the clip. DaBaby responded to the comment on his Instagram story, posting a now-infamous still from Soulja Boy’s 2019 Breakfast Club interview. The “Draaaake?” meme. Fans had thoughts on the interaction. “Please don’t unthaw DaBaby. He was doing good and being unproblematic,” said one user. “Now Soulja, I don’t think you want beef wit that man. Him and 50 neck and neck wit petty,” said another user. “This ain’t one you wanna play with, Soulja. DaBaby is everything he rap about,” said a third.

Soulja Boy has had an interesting last few weeks. He took shots at Drake for “disappointing” him during the battle with Kendrick Lamar. Fans viewed it as an attempt to drum up publicity for his new album, which releases on July 28. Drake mentioned him, seemingly in response to Soulja’s X rant, in an unreleased song with Lil Yachty, which Twitch streamer Kai Cenat previewed on Wednesday. In the same Instagram live stream as his B. Simone rant, Soulja mentioned that he couldn’t figure out if Drake was “showing love” or dissing him.

DaBaby has had a quiet 2024. He released a handful of singles and freestyles, but has not announced a new album or anything past that. He seems to be intent on staying away from controversy after a tumultuous 2021 that his career is yet to recover from. However, Soulja Boy’s comment may be what causes him to find himself back in beef. It remains to be seen if one picture is the extent of DaBaby’s response, or if the two famously petty rappers will end up in a lengthier back and forth.

This morning, President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president of the United States. In a video endorsement, the former president and first lady called on Americans to join them in electing Harris, offering their full-throated support and commitment to her campaign.
