ASAP Rocky Reportedly Delays New Album “Don’t Be Dumb” By A Month

We were so close. ASAP Rocky has been teasing the release of his fourth studio album since 2018. The traction that the album, titled Don’t Be Dumb, gained in recent months, however, made it seem like it was finally coming to fruition. An August 30th release date was unveiled, and ASAP Rocky started doing the promo rounds. He even dropped a music video for his latest single, “HIGHJACK.” Then, within hours of the video’s release, the rug was pulled out. Don’t Be Dumb is reportedly being delayed. Again.

The delay was announced by the Twitter account Amk. The account posted a screenshot of a convo in which the release date of the Don’t Be Dumb vinyls was confirmed to be September 30th. The account noted that September 30th has not been officially announced as ASAP Rocky’s new release date, but it does look as though the rapper is going to push the album back once again. September 30th would be exactly one month removed from the original Don’t Be Dumb release date.

ASAP Rocky’s Album Has Suffered Multiple Delays

The Amk tweet noted that Don’t Be Dumb was supposed to release the same day as the Destroy Lonely album, Love Lasts Forever. It’s unclear whether the Destroy Lonely release has anything to do with the alleged delay. ASAP Rocky talked about the recording process for Don’t Be Dumb during a recent chat with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. He blamed internet leaks for the album’s delays. “It’s very important and special if it makes it on the album,” he explained. “Most of the songs that I usually perform and sh*t like that, motherf*ckers leak it.”

ASAP Rocky claimed that none of the leaked songs made the final tracklist. “Once it’s leaked, it’s just like, ha, it’s not on the project,” he stated. “I might perform it here or there, but it’s leaked. It is what it is… It’s out already. A lot of these records didn’t make it because they got leaked at some point.” Hopefully the Harlem rapper is able to recover, and drop the album soon. The response to the rumored delay has not be positive, and given that fans have waited for five years, it’s easy to see why.

I’ve doubted my strength through this. I haven’t been eating. And barely sleeping. I don’t know how im functioning. I’m crying because I know he was ready. He was happy. He was loved. This has to be the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.”

Talameshia continued, thanking her followers for their support in this difficult time. “I see everyone’s prayers and encouraging words,” she said. “It’s helping more than you know. Send me any videos and photos you have of us or him 🙏🏽 I posted this for yall. Because if you know us , you know he’d want me to keep going. Travis Scott Files Motion To Dismiss Trespassing Charge After Miami Arrest

In June, Travis Scott was arrested over a minor disagreement in Miami. Reportedly, he rented a yacht, and its owner stormed onboard at midnight telling him to leave. As a result, he told the man and his wife they were being disrespectful, and the situation escalated from there. Hours after his arrest, Scott was released and promptly got on a jet back to LA.

He was charged with disorderly intoxication and trespassing. Earlier this month, his disorderly intoxication charge got dropped, though he was still on the hook for alleged trespassing. According to TMZ, however, his lawyer Bradford Cohen filed a motion yesterday to get that dismissed too. The motion claims that signs warning against trespassing were visible on the private property surrounding the Miami Beach Marina, where he was arrested. The marina itself didn’t have any visible signs, according to the motion.

It’s to be seen whether or not the motion will be granted. Scott’s Miami arrest wasn’t the only legal trouble he’s run into as of late, however. He was also arrested in Paris this month after getting into a fight with his bodyguard. He was quickly released and faces no charges over the incident.

On the bright side, Scott is also currently gearing up to drop his fan-favorite mixtape Days Before Rodeo on streaming services. Reportedly, it’s scheduled to arrive on DSPs on August 23 in honor of the project’s tenth anniversary. Punch Reveals Crucial Role In Making Kendrick Lamar’s “To Pimp A Butterfly”

Punch is a talented wordsmith in his own right. The man born Terrence Henderson is best known for running Top Dawg Entertainment alongside Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith. That said, Punch has dropped guest verses on Kendrick Lamar and Ab-Soul albums in the past. Punch reflected on his musical output via Instagram on August 21. He not only revealed that he was involved in the making of Lamar’s seminal album To Pimp a Butterfly, but he was crucial in the resolution of its narrative concept. The way Punch tells it, the album would have been very different had he not been working alongside Dot.

The closing track on To Pimp a Butterfly is “Mortal Man.” Kendrick Lamar reads a poem to Tupac, referring to said poem as something a “good friend had wrote.” Punch told Instagram followers that he was the “good friend in question.” The poem he wrote effectively lays out the thesis and title of To Pimp a Butterfly, which is something he claims Lamar struggled with. “I remember K. Dot was feeling a bit lost in the concept,” Punch recalled. “It happens sometimes when your in the thick of the battle. It’s easy to kind of lose sight of the original purpose as new ideas and thought enter in.” The TDE boss claims that Lamar asked him to write a poem that would help snap the narrative into place. He obliged.

“I thought about it and wrote some words and sent it to him,” Punch added. “He said ‘thanks’ and we kept moving with business as usual.” The TDE boss noted that weeks went by with no mention of the poem. It wasn’t until Punch sat down to listen to “Mortal Man” that he discovered Lamar had used the poem as the album’s capper. “I realized these were the words that I sent Dot months before! I had no idea he was using it for the album,” he recalled. “Even when we played it back during the process he never played that section.”

Punch doesn’t have a credit on “Mortal Man.” However, he remains grateful to Lamar for involving him in such a notable piece of music. “This will always be a special moment for me,” he concluded on his IG post. “Because of our connection and understanding and also being apart of that masterpiece in that way.” It’s difficult to imagine the end of “Mortal Man,” and by extension, To Pimp a Butterfly, without Punch’s poem serving as the cherry on top.
