Freddie Gibbs Prepares Fans For New Album With “On The Set”

Yesterday, Freddie Gibbs announced that his new project You Only Die 1nce would be dropping on Halloween night. He unveiled the project’s cover art, tracklist, and a cryptic teaser on social media at the time. The teaser didn’t provide fans with much insight as to what they could expect to hear on the album. The tracklist, on the other hand, managed to build a lot of anticipation. While it revealed that the project has either no features or hidden features, it also unveiled some of the producers who contributed to the album. This includes BNYX, 454, and more.

Now, Gibbs has provided his supporters with yet another exciting surprise, the final track on the album. He dropped “On The Set” today, produced by Pops & Mischa Chilak, along with a cinematic accompanying music video. The video shows him on the set of a film in which he plays a gunshot victim, spitting bars about some of the biggest losses in hip-hop and more. So far, fans in his YouTube comments section are feeling the mellow track, and can’t wait to hear what else he has on the way.

“Gibbs just don’t miss,” one listener writes. “Album of the year,” another predicts. What do you think of Freddie Gibbs’ new track, “On The Set”? Are you looking forward to hearing the rest of his album You Only Die 1nce when it drops at midnight? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Richard Milli Enlists Boldy James And Willie The Kid For Slick “Still Mergin”

Richard Milli has already proven himself a capable producer with the single “Daily Routine.” His latest release, however, is a cut above. “Still Mergin’” sees the producer link up with Boldy James and Willie the Kid for a stellar display of bars and effortless flows. The sample loop is simple and repetitive, but it locks the viewer into a hypnotic groove. From there, Boldy James and Willie the Kid flex their lyrical ability and prove that they can flow over pretty much any instrumental they come across.

Boldy James proves to be a natural fit for Richard Milli’s production. His sleepy, unaffected voice helps to anchor the looped vocal at the heart of the instrumental. His bars are clever without being flashy, but it is undoubtedly Willie the Kid who runs away with “Still Mergin.” The rapper is absolutely stellar on this one, between his aggressive, counterpoint delivery to Boldy and his clever turns of phrase that come spilling out of him like stray thoughts. Richard Milli’s production may not be as animated as his second guest is, but the contradictory elements on display here actually play to the song’s benefit. Another stellar cut.

Yeat And Quavo Cause Mayhem On Massive Rage Banger “5Brazy”

Yeat may not be a superstar yet, but he’s a star. The rapper has really exploded over the last few years, thanks to his unique take on the rage sound. He’s showcased more finesse and range within this sound, as evidenced by his commercial breakthrough, 2093. Yeat’s latest album, however, sees him tamp down the experimentation in favor of bangers. LYFESTYLE is for the rap heads, and the feature list on the latest album make this game plan abundantly clear. Yeat linked up with Kodak Black and Lil Durk, and the brand new deluxe version features a collab with Quavo.

“5Brazy” is the very last song on the digital deluxe version of LYFESTYLE. It goes as hard as you think a Yeat and Quavo collab would go. The instrumental wastes absolutely no time setting up a soundscape as aggressive and hectic as the album cover. Backing vocals that evoke Future guide us into the first verse, which is handled by Yeat. The bars matter as much as they do for a typical Yeat song, which is to say, not at all. Yeat is all about vocal riffs and flows. Quavo is a bit more audible on the back end of the song, and he acclimates surprisingly well to Yeat’s more blown-out sound.

The Weeknd And Anitta’s “São Paulo” Is A Club Anthem For The Ages

The Weeknd’s ambition has always been one of his greatest traits. He also has a new concept, and a new aesthetic to match his musical direction. The first two singles from his upcoming album, “Dancing In the Flames” and “Timeless,” were radically different in tone and style. The same can be said for the singer’s collab with Anitta, “São Paulo.” It’s the longest single from the album so far, and it earns its runtime with a massive instrumental and absolutely mesmerizing production. “São Paulo” is the sound of a club song from a dystopian future, and plays to both The Weeknd’s and Anitta’s strengths.

Anitta handles the chorus, which is the first thing we hear. The Brazilian singer’s voice is filtered, making it sound more like a vocal sample than an original feature. The decision plays to the song’s benefit. “São Paulo” takes nearly two minutes to build up to its full form. Synth leads slash through the Anitta’s chorus and The Weeknd’s soaring falsetto. The drums rush in around the two minute mark, transporting fans to an unhinged, unstoppable middle half. “São Paulo” takes its time to unfold, but it never stays in one place for very long. It’s one of the boldest singles The Weeknd has ever released. We can’t wait to hear how it plays into Hurry Up, Tomorrow as a whole.

Ab-Soul And JID Put On A Lyrical Clinic For New Single “Crazier”

Ab-Soul has always released quality albums. Underrated, or perhaps even slept on albums, but quality nonetheless. The TDE veteran is doing something a little different for his upcoming release, though. The quality remains, but Ab-Soul is trying different sounds and working with different artists to showcase that he can make music every bit as attention-grabbing as his peers. “Squeeze 1st 2” was for the old heads, then “All That” was a bop for the West Coast fans. “Crazier” is the third single from DOE BURGER, and it sees Ab-Soul go toe-to-toe with another lyrical master, JID. It delivers.

The beat sparse and unrelenting. There’s nothing flashy about “Crazier.” There isn’t even a build up, JID just kicks things off with an extended guest verse. The wordplay and the flow are razor sharp. JID may be a standout on Dreamville, but the TDE influence on his style is undeniable. He acclimates naturally to this soundscape. Then it’s Soulo’s turn. Ab-Soul is actually the more expressive of the two emcees, and uses his signature blend of puns, esoteric references and trash talk. “Crazier” is the most subdued single that Ab-Soul has released for DOE BURGER so far. That said, there’s something quietly intense about it that will keep fans coming back.

Tyler, The Creator And ScHoolboy Q Reunite For “Thought I Was Dead”

We knew Tyler, The Creator had bars on “Thought I Was Dead.” The rapper dropped a music video for the song a few days before its official release, but only a fragment of the song was included. Now that the full CHROMAKOPIA album has arrived, we have the full song. And it delivers. “Thought I Was Dead” offers up one of the hardest instrumentals on the entire album, which is saying a lot. The song also gives fans a chance to bask in the Tyler, The Creator and ScHoolboy Q reunion we didn’t realize we needed.

CHROMAKOPIA is, in many ways, the culmination of Tyler, The Creator’s sound. It includes pieces of all his previous albums. “Thought I Was Dead” is a throwback to the aggressive, clipped bangers that were all over 2015’s Cherry Bomb. The beat is wonky and horn-led, while the busy drum pattern breaks up the rapper’s bassy delivery. The chorus is simple and catchy. ScHoolboy Q, who also popped up on a stellar Cherry Bomb cut, brings his typical hybrid of menace and energy to the table. He’s the perfect rapper to get on a beat this bizarre. If you pick up the vinyl version of CHROMAKOPIA, then “Thought I Was Dead” also has a guest verse from Playboi Carti. If that’s not incentive, we don’t know what is.

DJ Akademiks has previewed a new song from Only the Family member Doodie Lo called “My Brother’s Keeper.” Sharing the song during a livestream on Sunday night, Akademiks confirmed that it will be dropping on Monday. “I got the song, I’m just a little bit nervous to play it because I don’t know what it’s gonna say,” Akademiks said during the stream. “This is the first time. OTF’s been f*cking silent.”

As for the arrest, authorities charged Durk with allegedly orchestrating an attempted murder of rival rapper Quando Rondo in 2022. “Banks [Lil Durk] put a monetary bounty out for an individual with whom Banks was feuding named T.B.,” their complaint reads, as caught by Billboard. “Banks ordered T.B.’s murder and that the hitmen used Banks and OTF-related finances to carry out the murder.” It also alleges that the move was in retaliation for the 2020 killing of King Von. Additionally, federal prosecutors allege that Only The Family is a “hybrid organization” that also functions as a criminal gang in addition to a music collective.

Andre 3000 Finally Uses His Voice On Massive 26-Minute Single, But It’s Not What You Think

Andre 3000 is back with a new song, and it’s more from the ambient, spiritual jazz journey that he’s been on artistically in recent years. It’s titled “Something Is Happening And I May Not Fully Understand But I’m Happy To Stand For The Understanding,” it’s an enveloping and engrossing 26-minute behemoth, and it finally features his vocals… Kind of. If you were hoping for a fresh new 3 Stacks verse in 2024, we’re sorry to say that your wishes were not granted this time around. Instead, at around the 22-minute mark of the song, his reversed jazz scats come in. At least it’s nice to hear the Atlanta native speak on wax for the first time since “SCIENTISTS & ENGINEERS,” albeit via warped gibberish.

Nevertheless, none of this changes how compelling and hypnotizing “Something Is Happening” is throughout its runtime if you appreciate this kind of music. For those unaware, André 3000’s latest song is part of the TRANSA compilation project by Red Hot Org, a 46-track odyssey about transgender awareness. It will release in full on November 22 and features other artists like Sade, Sam Smith, and Julien Baker. As for this track from the “punk jazz” artist, it sounds quite distinct from New Blue Sun despite some overlapping similarities.

Andre 3000’s “Something Is Happening And I May Not Fully Understand But I’m Happy To Stand For The Understanding”: Listen

“It’s kind of funny,” André 3000 previously said of the backlash to his lack of rapping per UPROXX. “The backlash is actually not from the rap community, or the jazz and spiritual jazz community. There’s actually more support, surprising support, from both sides. I think it’s more [OutKast] fans, which I understand. I always try to put myself in their shoes. If my favorite rapper said, ‘I’m not rapping’ and I like it, I like it. But if I don’t, I move on. I think some people take it as blasphemy or something.”

Meanwhile, André 3000 fans must resort to their imagination if they want new hip-hop verses from him. He recently revealed that he wrote several diss tracks that never came out, which is a holy grail considering that he’s never been in a beef. Regardless, maybe next time the vocals will be played normally instead of in reverse, but we’re not counting on them to spit a hot 16 anytime soon.

Tyler The Creator just came through with his brand new album Chromakopia. Dropping at 6 AM EST on a Monday morning was definitely a risk, but it seems like Tyler wants to restore the feeling of how releases used to be. Overall, it appears to be paying off as all of the releases from the weekend have been consumed by the sheer scale of Tyler’s fame and acclaim from the masses. Tyler, The Creator Keeps The Energy Up And Experiments With New Flows On “Rah Tah Tah”

Tyler, the Creator has the entire hip-hop world paying attention today as he just dropped off his brand-new album Chromakopia. This is a project that fans have been waiting for, and it certainly did not disappoint. There are 14 tracks on this new album, and fans are currently in the midst of listening through the project. However, one song that has immediately stood out thanks to the track’s raw energy and flows, is “Rah Tah Tah,” which is the second song on the album.

As we heard in the song “Noid,” one of the big concepts being talked about on the record is being paranoid. This certainly shines through on this track as Tyler seems out of his mind at points. His flow reflects that as he delves into inflections that we have never really heard from the artist. This is all backed up by some abrasive production that does a good job of illustrating Tyler’s mental state. As the day goes on, it will be fun to dive into these tracks and see the entire vision of what he is going for here.

Let us know what you think of this new Tyler, the Creator song, in the comments section down below. Have you had a chance to check out the new album? If so, tell us what you think about it. Do you believe that this is one of the best projects of the year so far? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world.
