NAV’s “Lately” Single Kicks Off This Weekend’s “Fire Emoji” Update

We’ve made it roughly halfway through the coldest season of the year. This is obviously thanks in part to the hot new songs on our Fire Emoji playlist every week. For the first update of February, we paid tribute to Lil Keed with his posthumous “Long Way To Go” single. This weekend, we’ve got something from NAV for your consideration.

The Canadian singer is preparing for the arrival of his NAV 2 project, a follow-up to his 2017 release that solely featured The Weeknd. Along with Friday’s arrival, “Lately,” the 33-year-old is gearing up to head out on tour alongside SoFaygo and RealestK. Additionally, Bryson Tiller will join him for the final concert in Toronto this spring.

Next up on our Fire Emoji radar is Kevin Gates’ surprise “Breakfast” single. The father of two tapped his wife, Dreka Gates to star alongside him in the visual. This caused eyebrows to immediately raise. As you may recall, the lovers seemingly called it quits last summer. However, many are questioning if the split was simply a PR stunt.

Following that is a collaboration between XXL Freshman Babyface Ray and 42 Dugg. The song is called “Ron Artest,” and finds the two lyricists chiefly paying tribute to the Los Angeles Lakers legend throughout their bars. Afterward, we hear from another duo – Young Scooter and EST Gee – on “Come Eat Wit Us.”

The Fire Emoji-worthy releases don’t stop there. Shy Glizzy finally shared his Flowers project on Friday, and several titles from that are already sticking out as fan favourites. For our playlist, we’ve selected “Another Thug Song” and “The Real Is Back,” though we suggest listening to the entire effort when you have the time.

HNHH‘s last recommendation of the day comes from across the pond, where Central Cee dropped his “Me & You” single. It comes in at just over three minutes and marks the perfect bop for celebrating Valentine’s Day with your boo, among other things.

NAV Preps For “NAV 2” Project With New “Lately” Single

In the latter half of 2022, NAV impressed his fanbase with the arrival of Demons Protected By Angels. The 19-track effort landed on DSPs in early September, complete with guest appearances from Bryson Tiller, Lil Uzi Vert, Gunna, and more. To celebrate that project, the Canadian will be heading out on his Never Sleep tour next week – but not before sharing a new single with the world.

On Friday (February 10), the 33-year-old delivered “Lately,” which is set to appear on his forthcoming NAV 2 album. According to a press release, the singer’s next effort will be fully written and produced by him. It also marks the follow-up to 2017’s NAV, which includes just one feature from The Weeknd on “Some Way.”

His “Lately” single arrives just in time for NAV’s North American tour, which launches on Valentine’s Day in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Afterward, the artist is due to take over cities like Detroit, New York, Atlanta, Dallas, Seattle, and Phoenix with special guests SoFaygo and RealestK. He’ll also make stops in Vancouver, BC on March 12th and his final performance will take place in Toronto on April 11th.

For the Never Sleep tour’s last night in the 6ix, NAV will perform alongside R&B star Bryson Tiller. On the latter’s Demons Protected By Angels album, he linked up with the Kentucky-born singer to craft their “Reset” track. It remains unclear if the latter will make any appearances on the upcoming NAV 2 album, but here’s hoping.

Quotable Lyrics:

Put this shit on your tongue if you want to feel like me
Got a lot goin’ on, I know it’s hard to deal with me
Never let shit get to my head, I’m stayin’ solid
Baby, you can bet on me, I’m already all in

Lil Uzi Vert Wiped Out In Nav’s Pool, As Seen In Hilarious Security Footage

Lil Uzi Vert led the Philadelphia Eagles on to the field for the NFC Championship Game on January 29, and their ubiquitous hit “Just Wanna Rock” capped off a 10-minute medley celebrating 50 years of hip-hop at the 2023 Grammys last Sunday, February 5. But Uzi might be placed on the metaphorical injured reserve to ice their tailbone after a recent studio session with Nav.

Yesterday, February 8, Nav posted security footage of Uzi attempting to leap to a landing in the middle of a pool and instead suffering a wicked fall.

“Caught Uzi slippin leaving my studio last night [crying laughing emoji],” Nav captioned the Instagram post. Uzi can be seen cracking up after wiping out, too.

“[crying laughing emojis] that hurt fa sho,” Ty Dolla Sign commented. The comment section was also flooded with amused reactions from the likes of Amir “Cash” Esmailian, RealestK, Lil Gotit, YG, and more.

Meanwhile, Nav is preparing to kick off his Never Sleep Tour on February 14 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He dropped his Demons Protected By Angels album last year.

Nav is bringing RealestK and SoFaygo with him for the 23-date trek, which will finish with “a special show” in his hometown Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena on April 11, which will boast Bryson Tiller as a special guest.

See Nav’s tour dates below.

Lil Uzi Vert Takes A Fall In Nav’s Pool: Watch

Lil Uzi Vert and Nav formed a strong bond over the years. The Philadelphia artist and the Toronto-born rapper have worked together on songs like “Wanted You,” as well as “Leaders.” But beyond their working relationship, they’ve proven to be great friends who hold each other’s creative output in high regard. For example, Uzi previously defended Nav against trolling, labeling the Canadian rapper/producer as a “genius” who gives his fanbase exactly what they expect every single time he drops music.

Nav always reciprocates the love. He previously went to bat for Uzi in the middle of his disagreements with Generation Now. After the Philly rapper stated that he was quitting music, Nav said he was going to do the same in solidarity. Shortly after the release of Bad Habits, Nav dropped “Free Lil Uzi Vert” t-shirts. “We met very early in our career. And we don’t even really talk to each other like musicians. We talk to each other like friends. We hang out,” Nav told Complex of their relationship. “Our relationship is very unique. It’s different from everybody else that I have relationships with.”

Nav Catches Lil Uzi Vert Slippin’

Their friendly relationship undoubtedly allows both Nav and Lil Uzi Vert to crack jokes at each other’s expense. Last night, Nav hit the ‘Gram with CCTV footage of Uzi’s massive fail. Uzi and Nav walked out of a studio when Uzi tried to pull a daredevil stunt and leap into the pool. Unfortunately, he missed the mark completely and fell into the swimming pool as Nav cracked up in the corner. “Caught Uzi slippin leaving my studio last night,” he wrote.

It’s unclear what they were working on in the studio exactly but perhaps, it’s something for their respective projects. In October, Nav confirmed that he’s working on the sequel to his 2017 self-titled project. Though he’s expected to hit the road in the coming weeks, it seems as though he’s plotting to release the project soon. Meanwhile, Lil Uzi Vert’s The Pink Tape is expected to drop this month following the viral success of the single, “Just Wanna Rock,” which recently cracked the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
