Memphis Has Officially Renamed A Street In Honor Of The Late Rapper Young Dolph

The hip-hop world faced tragedy once again this fall when Memphis rapper and beloved local figure Young Dolph was shot in his hometown. Dolph was a local hero for a reason — on the day he was murdered, he was slated to host a Thanksgiving turkey giveaway. That’s the kind of heart he had for his city. Though Dolph’s murderers were caught on camera, and the car used in the shooting was linked to yet another murder, so far no arrests have been made.

But that hasn’t stopped Memphis from making sure they honor the legacy of the Paper Route Empire label head and artist. After announcing that a street would be named after Dolph, today the sign went up. Dubbed “Adolpho “Young Dolph” Thornton Jr. Avenue” in his native Castelia Heights neighborhood, the street sign unveiling ceremony precedes a larger “Celebration of Life” that will take place at the FedEx Coliseum in Memphis tomorrow, December 16, from 11 AM to 2 PM.

Memphis’ city council voted unanimously to name a street after the rapper, and Councilman JB Smiley, Jr., who was the sponsor of the honorary street name resolution said the following: “It’s about celebrating our own. Young Dolph was truly one of us.” Check out some photos of the new street name below.

Eminem’s Adopted Daughter Alaina Scott Announces Her Engagement

Although Eminem‘s daughter Hailie is the one who usually gets most of the attention in connection with her famous dad (owing to his lyrical references to her throughout his catalog and indirectly sparking the feud between Em and Machine Gun Kelly a few years ago), today, her sister Alaina Scott gets some of the shine as she announces her engagement to her boyfriend of seven years, Matt Moeller. Posting to Instagram, she wrote, “this moment. this life. yes a hundred times over. I LOVE YOU.”

Eminem adopted Alaina after gaining custody from her mother, Dawn Scott — the twin sister of Em’s ex-wife Kim — when Dawn died in 2016. Em noted that he’d had full custody of Alaina since at least 2004, telling Rolling Stone in an interview that year, “I have full custody of my niece and joint custody of [my daughter] Hailie. I was always there for Hailie, and my niece has been a part of my life ever since she was born. Me and Kim pretty much had her, she’d live with us wherever we was at.” Like Hailie, Alaina has also received lyrical shout-outs from her adoptive father, as on the 2004 Encore single “Mockingbird”: “Lainie, uncle’s crazy ain’t he? / Yeah, but he loves you girl and you better know it / We’re all we got in this world.”

Cardi B’s ‘Up’ Tops Pandora’s 100 ‘Most Thumbed’ Tracks Of 2021

Before these algorithms started ruling our lives, Pandora’s thumbs up (or down) was the OG playlist algorithm tweaker. The very concept of the Music Genome Project was mind-blowing before streaming services and their playlists took over the music industry. And now, Cardi B, can declare herself the Queen of said Genome for the second year in a row.

“Up” by Cardi B is officially the most thumbed track of the year on Pandora’s “Top Thumb Hundred List of 2021.” That means more users gave the song the thumbs up, thus juicing its appearances on playlists above any other track this year. Last year, Cardi’s “Wap” featuring Megan Thee Stallion topped the list and in 2021, Cardi shows up twice in the Top 20, along with her featured verse on Normani’s “Wild Side”, the #18 most thumbed song of 2021.

Silk Sonic’s “Leave The Door Open” was #2 this year and Adele’s “Easy On Me” was #3. Drake led all artists with nine songs on the list and he had four in the top 20.

The Wiggles’ New Cover Of Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ May Be The Most Delightful Version Ever

The Wiggles had themselves a bit of a viral moment earlier this year when they covered Tame Impala’s “Elephant” while mashing it up with their own “Fruit Salad.” The children’s music group apparently decided they’re really into covers, because next year, they’re releasing a whole album of them.

ReWiggled is set to drop on March 11, 2021, and it’s a two-part affair. The first side features artists like Stella Donnelly, The Chats, and the Melbourne Ska Orchestra covering songs by The Wiggles, while the second side sees the group performing songs by artists like Rihanna, AC/DC, Blondie, James Brown, and The Rolling Stones. They shared a preview EP of the album today and it features their renditions of “Elephant” and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” a famously over-the-top song that is perfect for the cartoony style of The Wiggles.

They also shared an announcement video, so find that above and check out the ReWiggled art and tracklist below.

Big Sean Calls Kanye’s ‘Drink Champs’ Comments About Him ‘Some B*tch-Ass Sh*t’

Kanye West (aka Ye) has said plenty of inflammatory things over the years — especially within the last five or so — but during his recent appearance on NORE’s Drink Champs podcast, he turned his ire against a new target. Where he usually rails against institutions, systems, politicians, and critics, this time he highlighted his long-running business relationship with Detroit rapper Big Sean, saying signing Sean to his GOOD Music label in 2006 was the “worst thing” he ever did.

Obviously, that comment got a lot of attention, as Sean had by then helped turn GOOD Music into a pop-culture juggernaut before leaving earlier this year — and not coincidentally, made Kanye a lot of money, something Sean himself pointed out on Twitter. Sean said at the time that he couldn’t wait until his own appearance on Drink Champs, and many fans agreed, eagerly anticipating news of his eventual response. That news arrived today with the usual Drink Champs episode preview shared to Instagram.

In it, Big Sean references Kanye’s assertion, and while he’s measured in telling the hosts, “I love Kanye, bro. I love him for the opportunity he gave me and all these things.” However, he says, “I thought what he said was some bitch-ass sh*t.” We’ll have to wait for the full episode for the full quotes, but you can check out the preview — in which he addresses his early hits all being freestyles and Dave Chappelle getting his dad high — below.

French Montana Relives His Scary Near-Death Collapse In The Tense ‘How You King?’ Video

Back in 2019, French Montana was hospitalized after collapsing in his home due to what he called “a combination of a lot of things: being fatigued, dehydrated, you know, losing myself chasing money, chasing the wrong things… Too much drinking, too many pills.” The incident prompted him to give up drinking and drugs to avoid an early demise, but it’s apparently had other effects on him as well — as he illustrates in the latest video from his new album, They Got Amnesia.

The video for “How You King?” opens with an obviously inebriated and sleep-deprived Montana entertaining a pair of women at his home. Shortly after they leave, he collapses and spends the remainder of the video being rushed to the hospital, hooked up to machines, and watching himself through an observation window as he has an out-of-body experience. Meanwhile, he raps over the infamous “Impeach the President” drum loop, contemplating the heavy questions left behind by his brush with death. “If I fell with no one around, wouldn’t even make a sound,” he hums. “‘Cause I can’t even make one now.” Although the song has multiple versions on the album version, here, the video cuts off shortly after the first verse in a chilling imagining of an alternate outcome that could have seen his legacy also cut short.

Megan Thee Stallion Is Mad At Journalists For ‘Gaslighting’ Her And ‘Dismissing’ Elements Of Her Getting Shot

Yesterday, a preliminary hearing was held in regard to the charges Tory Lanez faces for allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot. Now, a day later, Megan is taking exception to some media coverage of the proceedings, accusing “blogs/journalists” of “gaslighting” her and “dismissing that I was attacked with a [WEAPON] WHILE I WAS UNARMED.”

The rapper wrote on Twitter today, “Don’t blogs/ journalists have to have accurate/ credible sources before going with a story ? Or is it just like a new I got paid to post this or I heard out from my home girl type policy these days.” She added in another tweet a few minutes later, “Like I’ve been SHOT and the focus of some these headlines are dismissing that I was attacked with a WEPON WHILE I WAS UNARMED and trying to paint it as a cat fight between friends why do I have to relive this with everyone on the internet every day ? And watch y’all gaslight me.”

Based on the timing of Meg’s tweets, it appears she may be referencing a post that TMZ shared this morning. They reported that in Lanez’s preliminary hearing yesterday, “an independent witness told cops they saw Megan Thee Stallion and her female friend, Kelsey, fighting just moments before Meg was shot in the foot… a piece of evidence Tory Lanez’s team feels cast serious doubt on what Meg said about him being the shooter.”

After Megan’s tweets, TMZ updated their post to add:

“Megan’s got big issues with what the independent witness told police about her arguing with Kelsey … and she makes a good point. Megan just tweeted, ‘I’ve been shot and the focus of some these headlines are dismissing that I was attacked with a weapon while I was unarmed and trying to paint it as a cat fight between friends.’

Fact is … even if there was a dispute with Kelsey inside the SUV, we know Megan was shot while she was standing outside the vehicle. Megan’s openly said she got out of the car because she didn’t want to argue anymore … which makes the dispute almost irrelevant to the moment the trigger was pulled.”

Aside from this situation, things have been good for Meg lately: In just the past few days, she graduated from college, won a humanitarian award, and was named TikTok’s top artist of 2021.

Masked Wolf Jumps Into The Deep End Of ‘Astronaut In The Ocean’ For ‘Behind The Video’

If you’ve turned on a radio anytime in the last six months, you’ve probably heard Masked Wolf‘s breakout hit “Astronaut In The Ocean” — even if you didn’t know that it was called that at the time. With its inescapable chorus (“What you know about rollin’ down in the deep?”) it’s been a hit on charts across the globe, including the Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at No. 6 in May. You may have also seen its video, which has racked up well over 265 million views on YouTube — which means you probably have seen the video.

This week on Behind The Video, the Australian rapper explains the concept of the video (“I have no idea,” he says), which he says only took two hours and $1,000 to create, and fields a few questions and reactions from fans in the YouTube comments. In one, his song gets compared to British singer Adele’s similar-sounding hit “Rolling In The Deep.” “The amount of times I’ve received this question is beyond a number,” he jokes. “It’s infinity. The weird thing is I hope people don’t feel what it’s like to roll down in the deep, ’cause it’s representing pain.”

He also breaks down the paradoxical title of the song, saying that it comes from the feeling of being in the wrong place — i.e., an astronaut being in the ocean rather than in space where they actually belong.

There’s plenty more Behind The Video above… Check it out.

Cardi B Was Baffled When A ‘Vampire Diaries’ Star Answered Her Question About Veganism

If making her new Twitter photo a picture of Netflix’s You star Penn Badgley is any indication, Cardi B is a big fan of certain TV shows. That’s why she was perplexed when one of the stars of the hit show The Vampire Diaries popped up in her Twitter mentions recently — and she had the best reaction.

Cardi oftentimes takes to Twitter to seek advice from her massive fan base on matters from skincare to motherhood woes. This week, Cardi sought some more information about the vegan lifestyle. The rapper said she wanted to try out going vegan, aka nixing all dairy and meat products from her diet, but was apprehensive to go against her love of meat. “I want to go vegan but I love meat.. are vegan meat replacements similar to meat in taste or not really?” she asked.

While many people responded, Cardi was most surprised that The Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley, who played the character Stefan Salvatore in the supernatural series, responded to her question. “Hello Cardi B- going vegan is the best decision I ever made,” Wesley wrote. Upon seeing the response, Cardi was absolutely perplexed.

Cardi didn’t say anything else about her potential pivot to veganism, but Wesley’s response could have swayed the rapper in that direction.
