Brittany Howard’s Upcoming ‘Jaime’ Remix Album Features Childish Gambino, Bon Iver, And More

Back in September 2020, Brittany Howard shared a pair of remixes from Earthgang and Bon Iver, which were released together as Jaime (The Remixes). Now, Howard is expanding on the idea, as her upcoming album Jaime Reimagined, which is set for release on July 23, will feature more remixes of the album’s songs. Participating artists include Childish Gambino, Common, Syd, and others. Alongside the announcement, Howard shared a pair of tracks from the release: “Presence (Little Dragon Remix)” and “Tomorrow (BadBadNotGood Remix).”

Brittany Howard said of the project, “Making Jaime was so much fun for me because I was able to explore so many different genres of music. There were no rules. This reimagination project has been no different. I have been honored to have so many incredible artists from all musical worlds interpret my songs in such interesting and different ways.”

BadBadNotGood also said, “We’ve been fans of Brittany Howard’s work from a distance for years but haven’t had the chance until now to connect. She has an absolutely incredible voice and her songwriting style is really unique. The original of ‘Tomorrow’ had such a special, floating sound that it was difficult to find a direction to go in for the remix. We tried to give the amazing vocals a new context and build around that. We were honored to have the opportunity and hope everyone enjoys it!”

Little Dragon added, “Working with Brittany’s voice felt really inspiring, because it radiates emotions and energy.”

Previously, Earthgang said of their remix, “We’ve been big fans of Brittany and Alabama Shakes so this is a dream come true. Songs like these help us make sense of all the craziness in the world at times. Her song ‘Goat Head,’ dealing with her Black experience in America and the world, resonated the loudest at this time. Just thankful to be able to give the world our medicine and heal the people.”

Vernon also noted of his at the time, “Brittany is a truly singular artist; so much power and musicality. This album speaks to so many people, including us. To have a chance to recreate ‘Short And Sweet’ in our own image with long-time collaborators Jenn Wassner and CJ Camerieri, was both an honor and almost too much of a privilege.”

Master P Wants To Coach The Pelicans To Keep Zion ‘Happy’

The New Orleans Pelicans are one of seven NBA teams with a head coaching vacancy, and have one of the most intriguing situations to offer thanks to the presence of a budding superstar in Zion Williamson.

The second-year star became an absolute force in his sophomore season, becoming the league’s most dominant and efficient inside scorer. The problem was that New Orleans struggled defensively (again) and also could not close out games for the life of them, failing to make the play-in and leading to Stan Van Gundy being fired after just one season. With Williamson and Brandon Ingram, there’s talent there, but also uncertainty with a number of players entering free agency this summer.

There are sure to be a number of interested candidates from around the league, as coaching a talent like Zion is hard to pass up, but if the Pelicans want to expand their search beyond the NBA, there is a New Orleans legend who wants a shot at running the team.

Yes, Master P has (once again) decided to just gently let the Pelicans know that he is available to be the NBA’s first “hip-hop coach,” and that he would ensure that Zion would be “happy” — a clear reference to reports that Williamson’s family wants him out of New Orleans. Master P does have NBA experience having been on the preseason rosters for the Hornets in 1998 and Raptors in 1999, although he didn’t make the full roster for either, and as he notes he has coaching experience at youth levels. I highly doubt the Pelicans would actually be interested in turning to Master P to be their coach given the stakes of the situation with Williamson already, but if Zion ever chooses to do a dunk contest he should absolutely dunk over a gold plated tank while catching a lob from Master P.

Beyonce Fans Are Terrorizing Trick Daddy For Claiming She ‘Can’t Sing’ On Clubhouse

At this point, anyone even remotely famous should probably just refrain from using Clubhouse altogether. The voice chat app has caused its fair share of trouble since its inception, from getting Mulatto dragged for supposed colorism, to sparking a shouting match between Meek Mill and one of his chat’s participants, to turning Nicki Minaj fans against Tiffany Haddish for criticizing the rapper’s perceived rudeness. The latest star to find themselves in hot water as a result of a Clubhouse chat is Miami rap vet Trick Daddy, who recently stirred up the most dangerous hornet’s nest — or, more appropriately, the Beyhive.

When Trick offered up his “unpopular opinion” about Beyonce’s relation to R&B music, it didn’t take long for a screen recording to go viral on Twitter, turning Trick Daddy — and the vicious responses against him — into a trending topic. “Beyoncé ain’t trying to give back to music and Beyoncé don’t write music,” he said. “Beyoncé can’t sing.” He explained his reasoning for making such a bold statement, comparing Beyonce to her husband Jay-Z. ““Beyoncé is to R&B what Jay-Z is to New York. New York lost Biggie and they needed a hero.” His commentary was echoed by others in the chat, but since he’s the most famous name attached, it was him who caught the wrath on Twitter.

For what it’s worth, opinions are a dime a dozen across social media and maybe he just isn’t feeling the way Beyonce sings. With that being said, Trick Daddy doesn’t seem like the kind of guy to lend too much credence to online outbursts. Unfortunately for him, the Hive always finds a way to give their online bullying a little extra punch; in this case, it looks like they’re trying to tank the ratings on his restaurant on Google.

Good luck to Trick Daddy. See you on the other side.

Jaden Shares The Wistful ‘Bye’ From His Upcoming ‘CTV3 Day Trippers Edition’

“I was sad when I made this song, but I’m happy it’s out,” Jaden said of his new song “Bye” in a press release. “Welcome to CTV3, welcome to trippy summer. It was the time of our lives.” The new single is the first release from the upcoming deluxe edition of his recently released mixtape CTV3: Cool Tape Vol. 3,, titled Day Trippers Edition.

“Bye” operates in the same mode as “Cabin Fever,” with a groovy, danceable beat and nostalgic lyrics about a lost love. However, it updates the production, to include more synth and a slightly more futuristic outlook than the throwback vibe on “Cabin Fever.”

While the original version of CTV3 mostly found Jaden performing solo on tracks like “Rainbow Bap” and “Photograph,” the Day Trippers Edition will feature an impressive array of guests, including Joey Badass, Justin Bieber (with whom he previously collaborated on “Falling For You“), and ¿Téo?.

In the months since releasing the project, Jaden has been busy, appearing on the soundtrack to Spider-Man: Miles Morales and opening a restaurant where homeless people can eat healthy food for free in LA.

Listen to “Bye” above.

CTV3 Day Trippers Edition is coming soon on MSFTS MUSIC/Roc Nation.

Chris Brown Is Under Investigation For Battery After A Woman Claims He Slapped Her Weave Out

According to TMZ, singer Chris Brown is under investigation for battery after a woman told police that he slapped the back of her head so hard her weave came out. Police responded to the troubled R&B star’s home in the San Fernando Valley over the weekend after the alleged victim filed a police report naming Brown as her assailant. The victim had no injuries and no one was arrested.

Chris Brown’s career has seen a resurgence thanks to his Slime And B tape with Young Thug in 2020 and some smartly placed features this year, including one with HER and another with Wale, as well as a relatively quiet 2020 on the scandal front. Perhaps it was just quarantine or maybe Brown had enough to deal with after being accused of rape in France in 2019 and was just laying low, but it had been a while since he had to deal with police, although they did show up to shut down his birthday party in May after neighbors complained about the noise.

Although Brown’s legal troubles have toned down in recent years, he was recently sued by his housekeeper over an alleged dog attack after supposedly failing to secure his pet.

A Judge Has Blocked The NFT Of Jay-Z’s ‘Reasonable Doubt’ Album

The controversial NFT based on Jay-Z’s debut album Reasonable Doubt has been blocked by a judge as the lawsuit against Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Damon Dash continues. According to The Hollywood Reporter, U.S. District Court Judge John Cronan granted a temporary restraining order to Roc-A-Fella after the label sued Dash on June 18 over his alleged attempt to sell virtual ownership of the career-launching record.

Dash said that he wasn’t trying to sell the rights to the album, but his partner in the endeavor, SuperFarm, announced the NFT auction “of Damon‘s ownership of the copyright to Jay-Z’s first album Reasonable Doubt. This marks a new milestone in the history of NFT’s, entitling the new owner to future revenue generated by the unique asset.” The auction, which was set for June 23-25, was canceled after the label sent a warning letter to SuperFarm, but the label pursued additional legal action against Dash out of concern he’d attempt another sale on his own. Dash says he was trying to sell his Roc-A-Fella stake, not the rights to Reasonable Doubt.

U.S. District Court Judge John Cronan sided with the label during a hearing this morning, noting Roc-A-Fella owns the copyright to the album. The lawsuit will continue, but the sale will not — for the time being. Incidentally, it was a dispute over the publishing rights to Reasonable Doubt that ultimately caused Dash’s initial split with Jay-Z when Dash refused to sell Jay the album masters after the latter was offered a role as president of the parent label Island Def Jam. Jay offered to turn down the role in exchange for the masters, but ultimately took the role and kept the rest of his catalog after Dame’s refusal, causing a rift that led to the demise of Roc-A-Fella at the height of its success.

Reasonable Doubt is also at the center of another lawsuit; Jay-Z is suing the photographer who shot the cover for the album over control of his images.

J. Cole Announces His ‘The Off-Season’ Tour With 21 Savage And Morray

J. Cole may have found an unusual way to promote his new album The Off-Season by playing pro basketball in Africa, and a successful one at that. The album dominated the Billboard charts, debuting at No. 1 on the albums chart with the year’s highest streaming year so far. Sometimes, though, the old ways are the best, so he’s also taking the show on the road this fall with The Off-Season Tour featuring two of the album’s guest rappers, 21 Savage and Morray.

The tour will hit 17 cities beginning in September with Miami, FL, and concluding in October at LA’s The Forum. Tickets go on sale beginning Friday, June 25 at 10 AM local time. You can check Dreamville.com for more information. See the full list of stops and dates below.

Cardi B’s Role In ‘F9’ Will Carry Over To Future Sequels, According To Vin Diesel

Cardi B’s role in F9 may be bigger than anyone previously expected if Vin Diesel’s comments in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight are to be believed. Diesel, the series’ undisputed center, told ET that Leysa, Cardi’s character in the latest installment of the franchise, has a storyline that could continue for another two movies in the series.

Diesel confirmed that the next two movies will be the franchise’s finale, and Cardi’s role will be much more than just a cameo. “We are very much excited to evolve her character and to expand it to the finale,” he said. “She made it just in time. She came in Fast 9 just in time.”

In a separate statement, the film’s director Justin Lin had plenty of nice things to say about the newest cast member. “I love Cardi,” he gushed. “I mean, it’s amazing she showed up and within a minute she’s part of the family. And I love how when I got together with her, her and Vin were talking about the character because she’s actually really embedded into the overall universe, she’s been around for a long time and this is just the first time we are seeing her, so I’m really excited to explore that character of her. I’ll work with her any day.”

You can check out Cardi’s role in F9 this Friday, June 25.

Cardi B is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Usher Allegedly Sent T-Pain Into A Long Depression By Saying His Auto-Tuned Singing ‘F*cked Up Music’

T-Pain is a talented vocalist, as he has proven on many occasions. His 2014 Tiny Desk Concert stands out as a shining example of that. Ultimately, though, he is best known for his songs that make use of Auto-Tune to alter the sound of his vocals. His Auto-Tuned voice dominated the music landscape in the latter half of the 2000s, but not everybody was a fan. The way T-Pain tells it, that group includes Usher, who allegedly accused T-Pain of ruining music, a moment that sent T-Pain into a long depression.

In a clip from Netflix’s This Is Pop, T-Pain tells the story about the time he and Usher were on a plane, on their way to the 2013 BET Awards:

“We were actually going to the 2013 BET Awards, and we were all in first class and I went to sleep. I was awakened by the flight attendant. She said, ‘Usher would like to talk to you in the back.’ So I got up and went back and he was like, you know, ‘How’s everything going?’ Quick small talk, no big deal. And he was like, ‘Man, I want to tell you something, man.’ I was like, ‘What’s good?’ I thought he was about to tell me something real. He sounded real concerned. He was like, ‘Man, you kind of… you kind of f*cked up music.’

I didn’t understand. Usher was my friend. He was like, ‘Yeah man, you really f*cked up music for real singers.’ Literally, at that point, I couldn’t listen. ‘Is he right? Did I f*ck up music?’ And that is the very moment… I don’t even think I realized this for a long time, but that’s the very moment that started a four-year depression for me.”
