Snoop Dogg Fans Feel Both Betrayed And Impressed After His Viral ‘Give Up Smoke’ Post Turned Out To Not Be About Weed

Snoop Dogg Solo Stove
Solo Stove

Snoop Dogg quit smoking weed… at least that’s what he had the world believing last week with a viral social media post that read, “After much consideration & conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time.” The post had some fooled, while others figured his specific use of the term “give up smoke” indicated this was actually just a lead-in for some sort of smoke-free product marketing campaign.

It turns out that’s just what it was: Today (November 20), Snoop revealed the whole viral situation was just a teaser for an ad, for Solo Stove, a smokeless fire pit company. Now that the dust (eh, smoke) has settled, people are sharing reactions online (as of this post, Snoop is the No. 1 trending topic on X, aka Twitter), and they have so far fallen into a couple different genres.

There are those who can’t believe they were fooled/those reflecting on the people who were fooled. Lil Duval chimed in, tweeting, “Snoop had all yall talking about ‘im about to stop smoking too’”; Rappers like Meek Mill and Coi Leray discussed quitting weed after Snoop’s post.

Then there are those who have to give it up for Snoop and Solo Stove and their uber-successful marketing campaign. Ice T even weighed in, tweeting, For all you MFs that hit me up saying ‘Ice! You heard about Snoop?!! He stopped!’ And I said….’Wait for it.’ Lol. Snoop is too cold. I love it.”

Jay-Z’s Team Roc Doubles Down On Calls For Kansas City Police Transparency

Jay-Z’s Team Roc has teamed up with the Midwest Innocence Project to fight for criminal justice reform and they have one specific target. That’s the Kansas City, Kansas police department often shortened as KCKPD. After public callouts from advocates for transparency from the KCKPD following numerous high-profile controversial incidents, Midwest Innocence Project is now taking a more technical approach filing some new paperwork.

According to AllHipHop, they’ve filed a request under the Kansas Open Records Act to try and access numerous internal documents from the department. Included in their request are complaints filed against the police department as well the resulting internal investigations and disciplinary actions. They’re also requesting the results of an FBI investigation into the police department. That comes in line with Team Roc’s request last year that the Department Of Justice open up an investigation into the department.

Jay-Z Once Again Making Push For Social Justice

Last year, the FBI arrested a former detective from the police department. He was booked on charges related to abuse of power and sex trafficking of underage girls. They also investigated the former police chief of the department Terry Ziegler. Calls from groups like Team Roc and the Midwest Innocence Project have claimed that the corruption and mismanagement of the department goes even deeper than what was already investigated.

Last week, Jay-Z made the headlines when his full interview with Gayle King finally aired. After teaser clips had been circulating, the entire three hour interview aired on TV last Tuesday. After it aired, N.O.R.E said that he wished Jay did the interview with him, Talib Kweli, or Joe Budden. It’s unclear what his exact issues with the interview itself were. In the interview, he also hilariously told a story where one of his teachers was stunned by his reading abilities. What do you think of Team Roc’s new push for transparency in the controversial KCKPD? Let us know in the comment section below.

50 Cent Rants About Diddy & Cassie’s Explicit Pictures In Resurfaced Interview: Listen

50 Cent is having a field day blasting his rival Diddy for his accusations of sexual assault and physical abuse. Moreover, this feud and his comments on the harrowing matter inspired many to go back into previous discussions surrounding the two rap moguls. As such, Internet sleuths found an old 2010 radio interview with DJ Whoo Kid on Shade 45 in which Fif calls Sean Combs’ relationship with Cassie into question. For those unaware, she is the person who sued the Bad Boy executive and launched an avalanche of bombshell allegations of his abhorrent behavior. Still, his G-Unit counterpart apparently tried to warn him of something, but ended up feeling like what he faced was his own doing.

“They sent me the girl’s pictures,” 50 Cent said of Cassie, explaining that he received explicit pictures of her on his phone from an unknown source. “Not the s**t that y’all saw- worse, way worse. Like, penetration pictures. I called the n***a and I said, ‘Yo, you f***ing with this girl, you like her like that?’ [Diddy] said, ‘Yeah, that’s my girl.’ So I said, ‘Alright, I’ma send you something. You look at it and you call me back.’

50 Cent Blasts Diddy For Cassie Relationship In Old Shade 45 Clip: Listen

“I sent him the photos, the pictures and everything,” 50 Cent continued. “The n***a called back and was like, ‘Yo, thanks, man. I really appreciate that. Yo, where you get these s**ts from?’ They know if something cr*zy is going on, if they send it to me, I’ll make sure it gets out there, so they sent it to me. I really kinda felt like those photographs were not happening because of Cassie, I felt like they were happening because of Puffy.” It’s unclear who the rapper is referring to when he says “they,” but let’s not waste time on a thirteen-year-old question.

Meanwhile, he also called Sean Combs a “b***h” during this interview, so there’s no room for interpretation on whether or not sending him the pictures was doing him a solid. With all this in mind, we can only speculate on what the Queens MC will say next about this whole thing. After all, he thinks this isn’t the end of his public reckoning. Come back to HNHH for more updates and the latest news on Diddy, Cassie, and 50 Cent.

Following the recent announcement of nominees, music’s biggest night is now just a couple of months away. The 2024 Grammys ceremony is set to happen on February 4, 2024, and it is highly anticipated by all. The Grammy for Album of the Year is inarguably the most prestigious award presented annually by the Recording Academy. The most recent awardee in the category is Harry Styles for his critically acclaimed third album Harry’s House.

The eight albums selected are outstanding, having earned praise since their release. However, this award also will be shared by the primary artist and their collaborators. Therefore, featured artists, producers, songwriters, mastering engineers, and recording engineers or mixers of the winning album will be credited as winners as well. However, unlike before, the condition is that they be credited on at least 20% of the album’s playing time. Here are the nominees for Album of the Year for the 2024 Grammys.

The Age Of Pleasure is Monáe’s second album to be nominated in the Album of the Year category.

Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd – Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey released her ninth album, and the alternative pop project has earned the singer her second nomination in this category. Del Rey is up for a total of five awards at the 2024 Grammys. Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd was largely produced by Del Rey and Jack Antonoff. However, it also features production from Drew Erickson and Nick Waterhouse, among others. Furthermore, while Del Rey provided lyrics on all 16 tracks, she was assisted by several writers.

They include Antonoff, Erickson, Sam Dew, Brian Fennell, and Benji Lysaght among others. The album features guest appearances from Father John Misty, Bleachers, Tommy Genesis, and SYML. Additionally, Jon Batiste appears on “Jon Batiste Interlude,” as well as the Grammy-nominated single “Candy Necklaces.” The album was mixed and mastered by Antonoff, Laura Sisk, Dean Reid, and Ruairi O’Flaherty, among others.

Endless Summer Vacation – Miley Cyrus

In 2023, Miley Cyrus dominated charts and radio with her smash hit single, “Flowers.”  The project that houses the song is now up for Album Of The Year at the 2024 Grammys. Endless Summer Vacation, Cyrus’ eighth album, was released on March 10, 2023. It features several prominent producers, including Mike Will Made-It, Kid Harpoon, Tyler Johnson, Greg Kurstin, and more. Brandi Carlile and Sia are the only featured artists, appearing on “Thousand Miles” and “Muddy Feet,” respectively. While Cyrus provided lyrics on all 14 tracks, several other writers also helped out as well. Some of them are Ian Kirkpatrick, Caitlyn Smith, David Frank, and Thomas Hull. Furthermore, the album was engineered by Brian Rajaratnam, Piece Eatah, and Stacy Jones among others. Finally, the mastering was handled by Joe LaPorta.

Guts – Olivia Rodrigo

Following her critically acclaimed debut album, Olivia Rodrigo released Guts on September 8, 2023. Her sophomore project, Guts debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart, and houses the Hot 100 number-one single, “Vampire.” Dan Nigro has sole production credits on most of the tracks. However, Ryan Linvill co-produced “Logical” and “The Grudge,” while Ian Kirkpatrick and Alexander 23 have credits on “Get Him Back.” While Rodrigo and Nigro have writing credits on all the tracks on Guts, they were assisted on two songs. Julia Michaels lent her pen to “Logical” and Amy Allen co-wrote “Pretty Isn’t Pretty.” The nomination of Guts for Album of the Year is also Rodrigo’s second consecutive nod in the category. She could finally take home the gold at the 2024 Grammys.

Midnights – Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift described Midnights as the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout her life. Swift’s tenth studio album was released on October 21, 2022, to widespread critical acclaim. The standard edition of the album contains 13 tracks. However, the Target Exclusive Lavender Edition, 3am Edition, and Til Dawn Edition contain 16, 20 and 23 tracks, respectively. Midnights was almost entirely written and produced by Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff. Additional production credits go to Aaron Dessner, Keanu Beats, Braxton Cook, Sounwave, and Jahaan Sweet. Furthermore, there are only two guest appearances on the album. Lana Del Rey features on “Snow on the Beach,” and Ice Spice on the Grammy-nominated remix of “Karma.” Finally, Midnights was mixed and mastered by Serban Ghenea and Randy Merrill respectively.

The Record – Boygenius

The supergroup Boygenius was formed in 2018 by three of indie music’s finest. Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus first released music as Boygenius in 2018. Their first project in five years, The Record was released as their debut album on March 31, 2023. It peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 chart, and topped the Rock Albums chart as well. All three members of Boygenius have production credits on the album, and the songs were entirely written by them. Additionally, The Record is devoid of guest features. Boygenius received an impressive seven nods for the 2024 Grammys.

SOS – SZA

SZA is the artist with the most nominations for next year’s ceremony and was evidently in her bag when she created SOS. The highly anticipated follow-up to her critically acclaimed debut album CTRL, SOS has exceeded all expectations. It comes as no surprise that it was nominated in this category. Unarguably, the album is one of the biggest threats on this lineup, especially considering the year it’s had. Guest appearances include Travis Scott, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and Don Toliver. Additionally, Phoebe Bridgers features on the Grammy-nominated “Ghost In The Machine.” Babyface, Carter Lang, Benny Blanco, and Jay Versace among many others, have production credits on SOS. This is SZA’s first-ever nomination in the Album of the Year category.

NLE Choppa Sings Chris Brown Track, Much To The Internet’s Amusement

NLE Choppa, like many folks out there, is a big Chris Brown fan, and he makes that admiration pretty clear online and in public outings, such as when they played basketball together. However, his most recent example of Breezy fandom has some fans in tears, others with genuine admiration, and a few who think he shouldn’t try too hard. Moreover, the Cottonwood 2 rapper sang the R&B star’s track “Under The Influence” in a new social media video. We have to give him props: he gives it his all and stays (mostly) on key. Plenty of folks have that MC/singer duality, but it’s even more exciting to see it develop from someone you didn’t expect in that lane.

Furthermore, this also happened to 21 S*vage, who’s made a name for himself for trying to show off his pipes. Whether it’s on social media or at an Usher concert, NLE Choppa certainly has steep competition in this regard. Many folks in the comments section of The Neighborhood Talk‘s coverage of this Chris Brown cover demanded a collaboration between the two. Furthermore, maybe they can make a mixtape of sorts with other rappers who you’d never expect to sing some soulful jams on wax.

NLE Choppa Covers Chris Brown’s “Under The Influence”: Watch

Jokes aside, though, the Memphis hitmaker is still quite proficient in his own lane. Perhaps he needs just a little bit more practice before he can hope to reach Chris Brown levels of vocal dexterity, at least in melodic and technical terms. But recent singles and collabs like the 21-year-old’s “Ice” with producers Aarne and Imanbek show that he’s still got that fire in him. Still, maybe this is just the start of a new phase in his career, or it’s just a fan being a fan.

Meanwhile, Chris Brown just released a new album 11:11, and it looks like it’ll perform pretty well on the charts. More importantly, though, it gave die-hard fans another collection of melodically engaging cuts with sultry production. Hopefully this isn’t the last C.B. cover that rappers bring us. For more news and the latest updates on NLE Choppa, stay up to date on HNHH.

Chris Brown Scores Another Top 10 Album As NBA Youngboy, Meek Mill And Rick Ross Sell More Than 30k

Chris Brown’s new studio album 11:11 sees the R&B star once again in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200. Every single one of his projects have scored top 10 debuts, with 11:11 coming in at 9th. While it’s the lowest debut on the charts for an album in his career so far, it’s still a monumentally impressive achievement. It’s Brown’s first studio album since 2009’s Graffiti to debut outside the top 5, with that album turning up at number 7. The project sold 44k copies placing it above albums released this year from artists like Don Toliver, Jack Harlow, and Trippie Redd.

It also debuted above some other big rap albums that came out the same week. NBA Youngboy released his 4th album of 2023 Decided 2. The project landed the third highest first week sales of the 4 projects pushing 35k units in its first week. Meek Mill and Rick Ross also teamed up for a new collaborative album called Too Good To Be True. Their star-studded collaborative project sold just over 31k copies in its first week. All three projects were out-sold by new albums from K-pop group Stray Kids and country singer Chris Stapleton this week.

Chris Brown’s New Album Puts Him Back In The Top 10

Meek Mill already shared his thoughts on his new album’s first week sales following the early predictions. While some fans were disappointed by the numbers he and Rick Ross ended up with, he saw things differently. He saw the dip in sales as a worthwhile sacrifice for going outside the industry machine and making sure that he and Rick Ross own all of their music.

Chris Brown managed his sales numbers after surprise dropping his album a day early. He was originally planning on dropping the project on November 11, which is fittingly 11/11. But fans found the project released a day early on November 10. What do you think of the first week sales for new albums from Chris Brown, NBA Youngboy, Meek Mill, & Rick Ross? Let us know in the comment section below.

6. “No Sense” Ft. Key Glock

“No Sense” is another collaboration with Key Glock on this list. The song brings them back to their stomping ground with references to Memphis, Tennessee scattered across the record. “No Sense” is also marked by a pulsating beat and sharp production, fostering an infectious energy that lasts throughout the track. Young Dolph and Key Glock take turns to deliver verses that effortlessly blend braggadocio with authenticity. Currently, the track’s music video has close to 10 million YouTube views.

5. “To Be Honest”

“To Be Honest” comes with one of Dolph’s most popular projects, Rich Slave. As the song’s title implies, this track features the Chicago-born rapper simply putting his thoughts out there. He narrates his experiences, coming from living in the “’jects” to being a famous, rich rapper. Over a captivating beat with heavy drums, “To Be Honest” touches on various aspects of life. The rapper also discusses his relationships and journey in the music industry, inviting listeners to engage with him on a deeper level.

4. “On The River” Ft. Wiz Khalifa

“On The River” is a vibrant, energetic track featuring Dolph’s signature gritty delivery. His bars are accompanied by a catchy beat that seamlessly fuses classic Hip Hop beats and trap. The song’s theme suggests a date where the Memphis rapper takes a girl out on a date, and they end up going out to the river. Moreover, Wiz Khalifa also brings his unique swag to the track, and he and Young Dolph spew out cannabis-related lyrics with style.

3. “100 Shots”

“100 Shots” is a track aimed at Dolph’s enemies. The chorus that ends with, “how the f*ck you miss a hunnid shots?” is directed at the people who the Memphis native thought had it out for him. On this track, Young Dolph once again employs braggadocio. Lyrically, he explains that his enemies always miss, but his longevity is proof of his prowess. Released in 2017, “100 Shots” turned out to be a hit in no time. The track has earned millions of streams across platforms, including more than 100 million streams on Spotify.

2. “1 Scale” Ft. G Herbo

With over 111 million streams on Spotify, “1 Scale” is Young Dolph’s most streamed song on the platform. It features heavy trap beats and a lot of references to the streets. The title itself, “1 Scale,” hints at Young Dolph’s and G Herbo’s familiarity with the drug trade; a scale is an important tool for measuring illicit substances. In braggadocious style, familiar with many rap stars, the artists move around the track with great synergy, exchanging tales of their experiences, as well as triumphs in the game. There are also references to expensive clothes, cars, and clothing accessories. All in all, “1 Scale” is a testament to both artists’ growth in their craft and is arguably Young Dolph’s most popular song.

1. “Major” Ft. Key Glock

“Major,” featuring Key Glock is a riveting Young Dolph collaboration that showcases his Memphis style. The song references the drug trade, with both rappers spitting about how much the trade can bring in. Furthermore, the track’s title, “Major,” hints at Dolph’s and Glock’s commitment to making a significant impact in the rap game, and the track’s robust beat does this theme justice. Overall, Key Glock and Young Dolph do well to show off not only their wealth but also their lyrical prowess. “Major” has since been certified Platinum, and peaked atop the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart.

Grammy 2024 Nominees: A Look At Best Progressive R&B Album

The Best Progressive R&B Album award is often mistaken for the Best R&B Album award. However, the difference lies in the music composition of the projects. Furthermore, according to the Grammys, the category is “intended to highlight albums that include the more progressive elements of R&B and may include samples and elements of hip-hop, rap, dance, and electronic music.” As such, the nominees for the 2024 Grammys are a genre-blend of interesting sounds.

Five albums are up for the prestigious award. These projects have been noted for their immersion in a plethora of elements. For example, Janelle Monáe’s stellar album The Age Of Pleasure, is a blend of Afrobeats, dance, R&B, Reggae, and soul. Similarly, the rest of the nominees have ventured past traditional R&B, adopting multiple styles in their sound. Steve Lacy’s debut album, Gemini Rights, received the award in 2022. In any case, here are the projects that are up for the Best Progressive Album award at the upcoming 2024 Grammys.

SOS – SZA

While Ctrl was a masterful display of R&B and soul, SZA took things up a notch with SOS. The critically acclaimed album is a sleek blend of R&B, hip-hop, soul, and pop elements. Moreover, she got a lot more experimental than in her previous works. As such, it’s no surprise that it’s been nominated in this category for the upcoming 2024 Grammys.

Upon its release, SOS received overwhelming positive reviews. In addition, it has also been one of the most successful albums of the 2020s decade, regardless of genre. It is currently the longest-running number-one female album of the decade. It spent 10 weeks atop the Billboard 200. Moreover, it broke the record for the largest streaming week for an R&B album in the US. SOS also features a wide variety of artists, including Travis Scott, Don Toliver, and indie singer, Phoebe Bridgers. The latter collaboration with Bridgers earned a nod for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Finally, the late Hip Hop icon, Ol’ Dirty Bastard also makes a posthumous appearance on the album.

The Age Of Pleasure – Janelle Monáe

For her fourth studio album, Janelle Monáe continued her usual infusion of multiple genres. However, in The Age of Pleasure, she took a phenomenal leap into the sounds of Africa and the Caribbean, particularly Afrobeat and Reggae. The album’s opening line, “No I’m not the same ni**a… I think I done changed,” is a testament to Monáe’s personal and artistic evolution. What resulted from this positive experimentation is a sensual, joyful, distinctly Black musical experience.

Even the features on the album are stellar and perfectly suited to the album’s overall vibe. Nigerian Afrobeat star Seun Kuti and his band, Egypt 80, appear on two tracks. Afro-Fusion acts like CKay and the brilliant Ghanaian artist Amaarae also appear on the project. Rounding out the features are Doechii, Grace Jones, Nia Long, and the Jamaican powerhouse, Sister Nancy. In summary, The Age of Pleasure is an eclectic mix of multiple genres. It is an even further extension of Monàe’s versatility.

Since I Have A Lover – 6lack

Released on March 24, 2023, Since I Have A Lover is 6lack’s third studio album. While the project was not as commercially successful as his earlier offerings, it is undoubtedly still a strong entry in his catalog. For one thing, 6lack explores uncharted territories on this album, and his experimentation sounds almost entirely seamless. Additionally, the guest appearances are intentional and curated excellently. For example, Don Toliver was a necessary addition to “Temporary,” a standout track from the album. The other two guest verses from QUIN and Wale are equally as fitting for their respective tracks.

For most of Since I Have A Lover, 6lack is a lone wolf and goes at it alone. However, it’s never monotonous, and he delivers a healthy dose of vocal dexterity on each track, effortlessly blending contemporary R&B and pop. The album also features impressive production from Leon Thomas III, Sounwave, Fwdslxsh, Psymun, and Dylan Wiggins, among others. A win for Since I Have A Lover at the 2024 Grammys would be 6lack’s first.

The Love Album: Off the Grid – Diddy

In the music industry, collaborations can be hit-or-miss, so one has to be very careful with their ambition. However, sometimes, an artist throws caution to the wind and goes all out to achieve their ambitious goals. With The Love Album, that’s exactly what Diddy did. Arguably the most ambitious project on this list, each of its 24 tracks features one or more artists.

Guest verses from R&B’s finest litter the entire album, making it a truly spectacular sonic experience. H.E.R., Jazmine Sullivan, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, Mary J. Blige, and Swae Lee among many others, appear on the album. Despite its lengthy runtime, The Love Album is anything but boring. In fact, as a result of its masterful curation and sonic excellence, some would argue that the album is not long enough. In conclusion, The Love Album is an outstanding project that exemplifies progressive R&B music.

Nova – Terrace Martin & James Fauntleroy

This 6-track project is a jazz-infused R&B showpiece. Released on August 25, 2023, Nova is a very successful collaboration from two outstanding musicians. Whether or not Martin and Fauntleroy created the album with the Grammys in mind, it certainly deserves the nomination for the 2024 ceremony. Nova is not as popular or commercially successful as other entries on this list. However, it has earned its place on this lineup because of its sheer R&B brilliance.

Furthermore, the album features renowned musician Robert Glasper on “Witchcraft.” In addition, six-time Grammy nominee, Chief Adjuah, appears on “Like It Like That,” and “Chocolate for Dinner.” Production on Nova was entirely handled by Martin and Fauntleroy as well. Without a doubt, it is one of the strongest contenders in this category. Overall, the album, just like the others, has a good chance of winning at the 2024 Grammys.

Joe Budden Shares Harsh Take On Meek Mill & Rick Ross’ “Too Good To Be True”

Joe Budden says Meek Mill and Rick Ross had nothing interesting to say with their new collaborative album, Too Good To Be True, and labeled it a “money-grab.” He shared his opinion on the project during the latest episode of his podcast.

“Meek and Ross, that was all over the place,” he said. “It’s cool loud. If you turn it all the way up, it’s cool. I love the Wale record on there, I love that record. It’s a few more records on there I love. I love all the records that are three minutes and 40 seconds long. There’s a lot that’s not that long — they’re shorter. When they do that, whatever they’re talking about jumps out on the track to me.”

He continued: “Them n****s ain’t talking about nothing. They ain’t said nothing on that whole project. Not a word, not a thing […] It was a money grab, for sure. I don’t think [there’s] nothing wrong [with that] — they got the money. When I hear Ross and Meek, it’s classic time for me. So this was cool, but my bar for them is high-high.” Budden isn’t the only one with a negative response to the project. 50 Cent recently trolled the two rappers for the album’s low sales.
