That’s an affirmative, as the two festival dates confirmed on the announcement are for Rolling Loud in California and Dreamville Festival. The Roots Picnic Is Coming To Hollywood In 2024 With Common, Queen Latifah And More

The Roots Picnic has been a staple of the band’s hometown, Philadelphia since 2008, bringing guests from across the spectrum of their collaborators and friends to Penn’s Landing. For those of us on the West Coast, though, the exciting festival has been a little difficult to attend. That all changes next year, when The Roots bring The Roots Picnic to LA, thanks to the Hollywood Bowl. Roots Picnic: Hip-Hop Is The Love Of My Life will take place on Saturday, June 29, along with special guests Arrested Development, Black Sheep, Common, Digable Planets, The Pharcyde, Queen Latifah, and more. Tickets for the event go on sale Thursday, December 14, at 10 AM PT at hollywoodbowl.com. The full Hollywood Bowl 2024 season will be announced in February 2024.

For the most part, The Roots have been busy as the house band of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (who helped keep their friendship tight), but individual members like Questlove and Black Thought have been busy with endeavors ranging from memoirs (see Uproxx’s interview with Black Thought about The Upcycled Self here) to planning the Grammys’ Hip-Hop 50 tribute (which he says caused him to lose some teeth). Quest is also set to direct Disney’s live-action remake of The Aristocats.

Nicki Minaj Announces Headlining Set At J. Cole’s Dreamville Festival

Over the weekend, Nicki Minaj released her highly-anticipated new album Pink Friday 2. The project marked her first new studio album in 5 years and the sequel to one of her most beloved projects from over a decade ago. Unsurprisingly, the album is a massive undertaking. She delivers 22 tracks which span 80 minutes of material and contain numerous high-profile features. Lil Wayne, Drake, Lil Uzi Vert, and Future appear on the album among others. One artist who makes an appearance is J. Cole. He lends a guest verse to the song “Let Me Calm Down” on the first half of the album.

But the pair’s collaboration goes beyond just the song itself. Earlier today Nicki Minaj officially announced the Pink Friday 2 World Tour. The tour will take off in March of next year and run until June while hitting numerous North American and European cities. She also promised that even more dates would be announced in the future. Two of the dates on her tour are for festivals including her headlining spot at Rolling Loud which was already announced. But she confirmed her appearance at a second festival just a few weeks later whose lineup hasn’t been released yet. Check out her full tour announcement below.

Nicki Minaj Confirms Dreamville Appearance

On April 7th of next year, Nicki Minaj will play the newest edition of J. Cole’s Dreamville Festival. The fest has been a staple of the legendary rapper’s label for years and often features many of Dreamville’s own artists alongside some of the biggest and best voices in hip-hop. The full roster for the festival’s 2024 edition hasn’t been released yet but when it is, Nicki will be included.

The breakout track from Pink Friday 2 so far seems to be “Everybody” with Lil Uzi Vert. North West already professed herself as a fan of the track when she shared a video of her dancing to it. Billboard put it at number one on their ranking of every song on the album. That prompted Nicki to explain that the track was originally written in just 5 minutes for her collab with Call Of Duty. What do you think of Nicki Minaj being one of the headliners at next year’s Dreamville Festival? Let us know in the comment section below.

Alicia Keys’ “Hell’s Kitchen” Broadway Musical: What We Know

Alicia Keys has had a prolific 2023. This year, she released a new Christmas album, celebrated the 20th anniversary of her album, The Diary Of Alicia Keys, and toured North America. As 2023 comes to a close, Keys has set her sights on an exciting 2024, announcing that her musical, Hell’s Kitchen will be coming to Broadway in the new year. The stage jukebox musical premiered off-Broadway just last month at the Newman Theater in New York. The current iteration opened on November 19 and will run through January 7, 2024.

Beginning March 28, 2024, Broadway performances will take place at the Shubert Theatre in New York, with tickets on sale now. The show’s runtime clocks in at 2.5 hours with an intermission. It will play eight performances a week, with two shows each on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Throughout the past month, Alicia Keys has been heavily promoting her latest endeavor and is taking it to the next level with its upcoming Broadway adaptation. As we await the premiere of her Broadway musical, here is what we know so far about Alicia Keys’ Hell’s Kitchen.

Who’s Involved In Alicia Keys’ Hell’s Kitchen?

Alicia Keys handles the music and lyrics of Hell’s Kitchen and does not appear in the production. This is not her first introduction to Broadway as she previously served as a producer and musical composer for Stick Fly in 2012. The music for Hell’s Kitchen includes songs from Alicia Keys’ discography, such as “Fallin’,” “No One,” “Girl On Fire,” “If I Ain’t Got You,” and “Empire State Of Mind.” According to the musical’s website, these songs “appear alongside previously unreleased and entirely new music from Keys.”

In addition to Alicia Keys, the creative team behind Hell’s Kitchen includes many notable names in theater. Pulitzer Prize finalist Kristoffer Diaz handles the book, Tony Award Nominee Camille A. Brown choreographed the show, and Tony Award nominee Michael Greif serves as its director. Musical orchestrators for Hell’s Kitchen include Adam Blackstone and Tom Kitt, with arrangements by Keys and Blackstone. The official cast for the Broadway adaptation has yet to be announced. Leading stars for the off-Broadway show include Maleah Joi Moon, Shoshana Bean, Brandon Victor Dixon, Kecia Lewis, and more.

Hell’s Kitchen Is Loosely Based On Alicia Keys’ Life

Hell’s Kitchen is inspired by Alicia Keys’ own life. According to Playbill, “The musical centers on 17-year-old Ali and her mother, sharing a cramped apartment near Times Square. Ali wants to live out her NYC dream, but mom is scared her daughter will repeat her own mistakes.” The musical’s title, Hell’s Kitchen, refers to the New York neighborhood where Keys lived during her childhood. Of the area, she told CBS News, “When I lived there, it was how it sounds. There was a lot of desolation there, there was a lot of drug addiction there, there was a lot of prostitution there. It was side-by-side, the desolation and the possibility. And I think that’s what kind of gave me a lot of hunger and grit.”

The Reviews Are In

So far, the reception for Hell’s Kitchen has been mostly positive. The Guardian gave the show a glowing 5-star review, saying that “Hell’s Kitchen is a marvel! A live-wire theater adaptation of Alicia Keys’ hit list that brings the house down.” Variety also positively reacted to the show, writing that it is “a sparkling story with iconic music and absolute powerhouse vocals.” Other publications like The New York Times, Vulture, and the Los Angeles Times positively reviewed Hell’s Kitchen as well.

Former New York Times theater critic Ben Brantley told CBS News that while he had only seen previews of the show, he noted that the changes to Alicia Keys’ popular songs to fit the plot might “de-jukebox-ify the show.” He said, “I like it when familiar songs sound fresh. You like to think that, especially her fan base, will have listened to those songs so often, that they may be sort of startled.” After Hell’s Kitchen makes its Broadway debut, we will see how the reception compares to its initial feedback. For now, this is all we know about Alicia Keys’ Broadway musical. Check back in with HotNewHipHop for the latest updates.

Boosie Badazz Hip-Hop 50 Grammys Performance Has Him Feeling Grateful

A lot has changed for Boosie Badazz since his return home from prison in 2014. While the “Wipe Me Down” hitmaker is certainly happy to have his freedom reinstated, there’s been a longing in his heart to return to the stage. Of course, Boosie has given plenty of “regular” performances, but what he’s actually been craving is a slot during one of the music industry’s many annual award shows. As hip-hop celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, the embattled star was able to make his dreams come true thanks to the Grammys.

As AllHipHop reports, on Sunday (December 10), CBS aired their two-hour “A GRAMMY Salute To 50 Years Of Hip-Hop” celebration, which was previously filmed in November. Boosie was just one of many entertainers who graced the stage with his presence, and now that the world has finally seen his performance, he can’t stop gushing about it on social media. “THANKS TO THE GRAMMYS FOR FINALLY GIVING ME A CHANCE TO PERFORM AT AWARDS SHOW SINCE I BEEN HOME FROM PRISON!! #imgrateful,” he tweeted yesterday.

Boosie Badazz is Happy About Returning to the Award Show Stage

Other legends who were a part of the Questlove-organized show include Big Daddy Kane, Bun B, Common, Nelly, Queen Latifah, and Rakim. As for newcomers, names like Coi Leray, Gunna, Roddy Ricch, and Latto were all on deck to prove they can keep up with their predecessors. Boosie may not have won a trophy from the Grammys yet, but he’s still grateful to see rap getting the recognition it deserves from the public.

Despite the chaos following him for the past few months, Boosie Badazz seems to be in good spirits as 2023 comes to a close. Not only has he made a solid impression on hip-hop heads with his Hip-Hop 50 Grammys performance, but we’ve also seen the Louisana native making big strides in the dating world. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Sexyy Red & Drake’s “Rich Baby Daddy” Is The New Christmas Carol This Holiday Season: Watch

Sexyy Red’s virality has been off the charts this year. She has quickly become one of the most popular names in rap. Whether it be for her raunchy bangers or her funny videos of her online, everyone has “Sexyy fever.” The Missouri native has been able to work with some of the biggest names in hip-hop due to these reasons. One of her hallmark collaborations this year is her work with Drake. For All The Dogs had some massive songs on it, including “First Person Shooter,” “IDGAF,” “Slime You Out,” and more.

Another one of those is “Rich Baby Daddy,” which has another SZA feature on it as well. Both Drake and Sexyy were photographed throughout the year, with her even joining him on tour.
