On Monday morning, May 20, Chet Hanks, one of Tom Hanks’ four children, posted screenshots to his Instagram Story showing an endearingly funny text exchange with his father.
“Big Main, can you explain the Drake/Kendrick Lamar feud to me?” Hanks is shown to have texted Chet.
Chet’s reply needed a second screenshot to be captured in its entirety, as he was very thorough (and slightly erratic). All his father could muster in response was, “Holy cow! These are fighting words. People taking sides?? Who’s winning??” Chet shot back several laugh-crying emojis alongside, “Did you not just read what I said[?]”
The Hanks family is now weighing in on Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s rap feud. Tom Hanks recently reached out to his 33-year-old son, Chet Hanks, for an explanation of the entire scandal because he felt left out of the loop about the all-consuming cultural event the beef has become. Chet Hanks has shared that his father had asked him to explain everything that had happened. He shared the hilarious text chain where he broke it down for his pops on Instagram.
Chet shared screen grabs of the text exchange on his Story, revealing that his father, whom he refers to endearingly as “Pops,” had messaged him, asking, “Big Main, could you please explain the Drake/Kendrick Lamar feud to me?” After the dispute between Kendrick Lamar and Drake became viral, it’s understandable that an ordinary person couldn’t keep up with every detail. Tom Hanks wasn’t keeping a close eye on everything that happened because he is Tom Hanks. Thankfully, Chet, who himself is a rapper, was there to explain the monumental feud to his pops.
Naturally, Chet began a long summary of the rappers’ dispute, pointing out that since Drake’s “Push Ups” in April and May, each of them has been releasing a slew of diss recordings targeted at the other. Next up were K. Dot’s “Euphoria,” “6:16 in L.A.” and “Meet the Grahams,” along with Drizzy’s since-deleted “Taylor Made Freestyle,” “Family Matters,” and “The Heart Pt. 6.” Chet explained Kendircks mega hit diss “Not Like Us,” saying, “pretty much the sonic equivalent of when you took me to your high school in Oakland and we walked in on the basketball game and everybody started going nuts.”
“Like if you heard it you would just automatically know how to Crip walk with a stank face while clutching an Oscar in each hand with Marshawn Lynch,” Chet added. “Then dap him up and tell him ‘Town Bidness’ which solidified the win not only for Kendrick but the entire West Coast.” Chet Hanks is sometimes problematic and sometimes just hilarious. He asserted that conventional physicists are essentially incorrect and that their ideas are based on false interpretations of natural principles. However, given his past controversial remarks on mathematics and lack of formal scientific credentials, Howard’s claims have been viewed with significant skepticism. Nevertheless, it is wild that Terrance Howard has put himself out there like this.
Jamie Foxx is a colossal figure in the entertainment world. He’s the rare performer who has managed to land a number one single as a singer and win an Academy Award as an actor. He even won an Academy Award for playing a singer, to further blur the lines. Foxx’s pedigree is unique as it is impressive, which is why he’s the perfect person to bring a film about Luther Vandross to fruition. Foxx is partnering with the companies CNN Films and OWN to release Never Too Much, a documentary exploring Luther Vandross’ impact on R&B music.
Never Too Much, which is directed by Dawn Porter, was picked up for distribution on May 15. She issued a statement once the deal was finalized, and restated how important Vandross is to generations of fans. “I’m thrilled to partner again with CNN Films and OWN to bring this film to audiences,” she said. “Luther’s music is timeless… and we can’t wait for all of his fans new and old to experience his brilliance.”
She also teased how much she learned about the singer during the making of the documentary. “I think people will be surprised at how much he accomplished in his tragically short life,” she added. “It is a joy to be able to share his true story.”

Jamie Foxx can’t wait to bring Vandross’ life to the screen. He issued a statement proclaiming the singer one of the greatest to ever touch a microphone. “Luther is one of our G.O.A.T.s,” he explained. “He’s one of the greatest singers in the history of music. It is an honor to be a part of the team to help bring this incredible story to the masses.” Foxxhole Productions, Raindog Films and Trilogy Films comprise the credits for the documentary. Foxxhole, as one might infer, is Foxx’s production company. Never Too Much will release in 2025.
A biopic on Vandross’ life is also in the works. Craig Seymour is currently adapting Vandross’ biography, Luther: The Life and Longing of Luther Vandross, for the big screen. Foxx will not be involved with the biopic, but he’s currently working on a biopic of his own. The actor will play Mike Tyson in an upcoming film, and he even has Mike Tyson’s blessing. Foxx will reportedly play the young and old versions of the boxer through the use of de-aging technology.
Despite being accused of attempting to evade Lil Rod’s lawsuit, Cuba Gooding Jr. is not keeping his opinions about the legal drama to himself. Cuba Gooding Jr. is accused of eluding court process servers in relation to a case producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones Jr. filed alleging sexual assault. Jones accuses the Oscar-winning actor of acting inappropriately while on a boat in the U.S. Virgin Islands. With the filing of the lawsuit, Jones has elevated Gooding Jr. and Diddy to a prominent position, intensifying the conflict in a complex legal dispute.

The claim is based on an event that occurred aboard Diddy’s boat in January 2023. According to Jones, Cuba Gooding Jr. groped him without getting his explicit consent. The complaint states that neither Gooding nor Diddy took significant action to address or stop the situation after Jones forcefully rejected Gooding’s attempts. Gooding isn’t keeping quiet about the case. When the actor learned about the allegations, he was shocked, he said in an interview with “Patrick Bet-David Podcast.” He said, “It’s crazy, that’s the craziest thing I’d ever [heard]… and then, hey how about me?” he said. “I wake up in the morning, I turn [on] the show…I was like, excuse me, [they] pull me into this!”
In addition, Gooding talked about the now-infamous picture of him and Jones. The Oscar winner said, “You made it look the way you wanted it to look, but that [photo]… we were just listening to music.” He added that there were over 300 people on the yacht at the time of the alleged incident. Gooding described the legal action as merely an attempt to coerce Diddy into paying money. Overall, the case and legal battle will only get messier from here.

He dove headfirst into mobster iconography during the second half of the decade, so it makes perfect sense that he’d have an affinity for one of the most iconic mobster actors of all time: Robert De Niro. Nas and De Niro have worked on a project together, but they have crossed paths several times over the years. They’ll do so again at De Niro Con, an upcoming festival dedicated to the actor’s career.
De Niro Con is an event put on by the Tribeca Film Festival, which was co-founded by the actor. It will take place June 14-16 in New York and feature Q&As moderated by some of De Niro’s peers and fans. This is where Nas fits in. The Queens rapper has been tapped to moderate a Q&A between De Niro and Martin Scorsese for a screening of their 1973 film Mean Streets.
It’s a full circle moment for both Nas and De Niro, as Tribeca introduced the Nas documentary Time Is Illmatic back in 2014. Nas praised De Niro during the doc’s after party, claiming that he played scenes that were close to some of the rapper’s own experiences. “I want to thank Robert De Niro,” he stated. “He plays me in the movies.” De Niro returned the praise, though he admitted that he was not familiar with Nas songs. He’d undoubtedly be touched by the number of time he’s popped up in the rapper’s music. It’s difficult to keep count.
Casino, directed by Scorsese and starring De Niro, was the template for Nas’ “Street Dreams” video. Then there’s Once Upon a Time In America starring De Niro, which was sampled on the Nas-led Firm album. His most acclaimed film role, 1998’s Belly, saw him and DMX play criminals who were lifelong friends, much like the central dynamic in Mean Streets. That’s not even getting into all the Goodfellas references that appear in the rapper’s lyrics. The Q&A takes place June 15 at the Beacon Theater.

“He knocked on my trailer. He sat in there and said, ‘I can’t do this crying shit. The New York prosecutor’s office has announced that a well-known Twitch streamer and YouTuber who was accused of instigating a riot last year after a giveaway in New York City descended into mayhem will not face charges. A spokesman for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office stated on Tuesday that Kai Cenat and two other people have already paid more than $57,000. Cenat has also publicly apologized after the event in Union Square Park went horribly wrong on August 4.
The city did not approve or sanction the event. The popular video game streamer Cenat promised to give away PCs, gaming seats, keyboards, and consoles. His promises caused a huge influx of fans to flood the streets, and things got out of control. Aerial footage showed people standing on vehicles. Police said that pyrotechnics, bottles, and rocks had been hurled, and the NYPD. They also reported that three police officers had been hurt after being attacked by protesters and becoming caught in the crowd. The whole ordeal was a fiasco and a dangerous situation created by Cenat.

The Manhattan DA’s office said in a statement, “The total restitution of $57,099 covers the landscaping damage and additional staff hours needed for clean-up. All of the restitution payments have already been made.” The district attorney’s office also stated that Cenat paid $55,000 to the Union Square Partnership as per the agreement. Cenat was taken into custody by the NYPD on suspicion of instigating a riot, riot, and illegal assembly.

The streamer in admitted he created “an unintentional dangerous situation due to the way I promoted and advertised it.” He continued writing, “I am from NY and would never want to see the city turned upside down due to unwanted, irresponsible, and dangerous behavior.” he concluded, “I wanted to do something cool and fun for people and did not think it was going to turn into something that caused harm to the city, and I should have thought more about the post before I announced it.” Overall, the situation seems to have been settled, and Kai is lucky he didn’t catch a charge.

As Tony Montana’s loyal friend-turned-tragic victim Manny Ribera in Scarface, Steven Bauer made a memorable impression that foreshadowed his talent for playing gritty cartel characters. He reprised that shady persona years later as the Mexican drug lord Eladio Vuente on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. He even portrayed Manny again by voicing the character in the 2006 Scarface video game. But Bauer has demonstrated impressive range since his 1983 breakout, racking up over 60 film and 35 TV credits across genres.

Mark Margolis left an indelible mark as the menacing Alberto “The Shadow” in Scarface, portraying the quiet but villainous hitman who was Alejandro Sosa’s personal bodyguard and “expert in the disposal business.” His sinister performance foreshadowed a career playing memorable character roles, with Margolis racking up more than 70movie credits in films like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Requiem For A Dream, and Hannibal.
He is perhaps best known in recent years for his role as the complex crime lord Hector Salamanca on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, for which he was nominated for an Emmy in 2012. Sadly, the versatile actor passed away in August 2023 at age 83 after a short illness.
Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio

While she continued landing major roles in movies like Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves and The Perfect Storm, Mastrantonio also found success on the small screen. She more recently appeared as Madeline Burke on NBC’s action drama Blindspot and in 2017, she guest-starred as Marion James in three episodes of Marvel’s The Punisher on Netflix.
