Ella Mai Unveils “Heart On My Sleeve” Deluxe

In 2022, Ella Mai returned with her long-awaited sophomore album, Heart On My Sleeve. The project served as the follow-up to her self-titled debut, which boasted the hit record, “Boo’d Up.” However, Heart On My Sleeve felt more personal and captured a comprehensive glimpse of Ella Mai’s potential. The 15-song project found Ella Mai working with a variety of producers, including Mustard, Boi-1da, and more. Additionally, she also linked up with a handful of other artists, like Roddy Ricch, Lucky Daye, and Latto.

Though the project remains in the rotation, she came back with even more heat with her fans this week. She dropped off the official deluxe edition of Heart On My Sleeve which includes three additional records. “2 O’Clock,” boasts production from Mustard and Kaytranada, who come through with an upbeat bop. Still, Mai’s vulnerability takes center stage.

The re-release of Heart On My Sleeve should certainly leave fans happy. She hasn’t released any new music since she dropped the album. During an interview with HipHopDX, she explained that she took two years to work on Heart On My Sleeve while noting the differences between thai project and her debut.

“I was going into the studio and literally making exactly what I felt like on that day, and that was the first time I kind of was doing that,” she said. “With the process for my debut album, I was going in and kind of just trying to figure it out, but this process, I really was just speaking what was on my mind.”

Shortly after the project dropped, Mary J. Blige, who mentored Mai, praised the state of R&B music right now. “Right now, I love the state of R&B because of people like Ella Mai, Kiana Lede, Summer Walker, H.E.R., Jazmine [Sullivan], SZA, Ari Lennox – it’s so much hotness out there,” Blige said.

Big Boogie Delivers 14 Tracks And A Fat Trel Feature On “Definition Of Big Dude” Album

In 2021, Big Boogie finally made a name for himself thanks to his work on UNDERRATED. The 16-track effort previously landed on Christmas Eve of that year and saw just one feature from his mentor, Yo Gotti. Today (January 31), the CMG artist is finally ready to unveil his next musical chapter via Definition of Big Dude.

This project includes 14 titles, and again, a sole feature – this one specifically from Fat Trel on “P*ssy Monster.” Interestingly, one of the most popular titles from his last album is “P*ssy Power” and its subsequent remixes, so it’s possible that this new collaboration could be a contender for a big hit.

While celebrating on Instagram across various posts, Boogie made it known that “THE WORLD IS [HIS].” While the album certainly required plenty of hard work and dedication, it’s nothing compared to what he’s willing to put in as he continues to grow.

Ahead of Definition of Big Dude‘s arrival, the Memphis native shared “Twelve Four” as a single. It arrived earlier this month with an accompanying music video, and already boasts upwards of 50K Spotify streams.

The “KeKe” hitmaker previously signed to Yo Gotti’s label in November of 2020. At the time, he was gifted a coveted CMG chain and was later invited to perform at the Memphis Grizzlies halftime home opener show against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Finesse2tymes Releases Sped-Up Version Of “90 Days”

Finesse2tymes has released a sped-up version of his debut project, 90 Days. The new release comes in at just under 37 minutes, while the original clocked in at over 42 minutes in length.

The autobiographical album sees the Memphis rapper reflect on his life and career. He spent a period of 90 days following a five-year stint in prison mending damaged relationships and working on new music for the project.

The project boasts collaborations with Tay Keith, Gucci Mane, Moneybagg Yo, and Lil Baby.

The new version of 90 Days came shortly before an altercation broke out at one of Fineese’s shows. The fight was reportedly between the event’s promoter and its opening artist.

DJ Rocky Montana explained the situation in a statement provided to XXL afterward: “The altercation was between me and an opening artist. The artist (2) went over their stage time and didn’t want to leave the stage. One artist walked up on me and got dropped then as I got my stance back together and waited to see which artist would rush and [that’s] when one of the artists tackled me and attempted to hit me while I was down however he wasn’t connecting with any punches.”

J. Stalin Drops Long-Awaited Sequel, “Prenuptial Agreement 2”

J. Stalin has finally released a follow-up to his 2010 mixtape, Prenuptial Agreement, 13 years later. The Bay Area rapper shared Prenuptial Agreement 2 on Friday.

The new project features guest appearances from Philthy Rich, Jackboy, Jane Handcock, and more. As for producers, Stalin teamed up with Juneonnabeat and The Mekanix, among others.

The original mixtape was a pivotal moment in popularizing mob music from the Bay Area.

“Mob music is sinister basses and sinister snares,” Stalin has explained, as noted by Audible Treats. “It’s all in the drums and snares and it’s real bassy. It’s a distinctive sound, created by producers like DJ Duo, Ant Banks, Mike D, and Rick Rock. When the first Prenup came out, hyphy was what was popping in the Bay Area. Mob rappers like me, we made some hyphy tracks, but hyphy was kid-like to us. When we did hyphy, we mixed it with mob sounds and harder lyrics. Mob was our version of what drill is now. Prenup brought the Bay sound back to mob music. Hyphy wasn’t as popular by 2010, and everyone was saying, ‘What are we gonna do now, how is the sound gonna be now?’ When I dropped Prenuptial Agreement, the whole city knew: ‘this is the new sound.’”

Check out J. Stalin’s Prenuptial Agreement 2 below.

SG Lewis Nabs Ty Dolla $ign & Lucky Daye Features On Sophomore Album, “AudioLust & HigherLove”

For months now, SG Lewis has been teasing fans with singles like “Vibe Like This” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Lucky Daye as well as “Infatuation.” To kick off 2023, the UK-born artist finally unleashed his long-awaited sophomore album, AudioLust & HigherLove on Friday (January 27).

Across 14 unique tracks, he generally works alone. However, we do hear additional appearances from Charlotte Day Wilson and Channel Tres on “Fever Dreamer,” as well as Tove Lo’s vocals on “Call On Me.”

According to a press release, the new album is specifically intended to be listened to in two halves. The beginning finds plenty of “nocturnal bangers that dancefloors, underground raves, pool parties, and festivals subsist on.”

In the latter part, we chiefly hear “a higher level of timeless pop ecstasy anchored by just the right amount of breezy hook-laden rock, organic instrumentation, and vocal eloquence.” Interestingly, this is a similar approach to the one Zack Bia took while crafting his debut single, “Hardcore,” earlier this weekend.

Another way to think of the two sections of Lewis’ project is the soundtrack to your wildest night out, followed by a blissful sunrise journey home.

Of the newly released titles on AudioLust & HigherLove, several are already obviously emerging as fan favourites. Among them are “Holding On” and “Another Life,” both of which hear the 28-year-old captivating audiences on his own.

CRIMEAPPLE Becomes “El Cantante” On New Album

CRIMEAPPLE just released his latest album, El Cantante, following an incredibly prolific 2022. Moreover, the last full-length we heard from the Jersey rapper was the 9-track Sin Cortar in collaboration with DJ Muggs. While APPLE has some help on El Cantante, he mostly takes full control of what he’s putting on wax.

Furthermore, features include RLX and BoriRock on the track “Together.” Also, collaboration is a key part of his artistry, because it’s a key part of hip-hop. CRIMEAPPLE focuses on sharp and boastful East Coast lyricism, atmospheric instrumentals, and abstract beats. You might’ve caught a feature of his on projects like Westside Gunn’s Supreme Blientele.

Also, he frequently works with the likes of DJ Muggs, with whom he dropped Cartagena in 2021. Moreover, they’ve done more than a few songs and projects together at this point. Still, CRIMEAPPLE also works with a lot of other producers associated with the likes of Boldy James, Rome Streetz, and the rest of the current drumless wave.

“Doing another album was a no-brainer” Muggs and CRIMEAPPLE told Complex. “The chemistry was there from jump. Outside of that, it’s a family affair at this point. When we link it’s a movie, quite literally. We give listeners an experience more so than just another album. We take you places you probably won’t ever go on your own.”

Overall, this album is a concise and quality collection of chill, dense beats, impressive writing, and as always, touching homages and references to CRIMEAPPLE’s Colombian descent. Furthermore, sometimes it’s in the form of samples, and sometimes the project will switch to Spanish passages. However, the roots run quite deep. The title “El Cantante” is most likely a reference to Héctor Lavoe, the legendary Puerto Rican salsa singer. Moreover, he was on the label Fania Records, the leading salsa label whose logo is imitated on CRIMEAPPLE’s album cover.

Still, what did you think of CRIMEAPPLE’s latest album, El Cantante? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments and check out the tape’s tracklist down below. Also, if you haven’t heard the project yet, you can find it on your preferred streaming service. As always, come back to HNHH for the best new music released each week.

Tracklist

  2. Tuesday
  3. Out The Way
  4. Cosos
  5. Together

  7. Hellman’s

DC The Don Opens Up His “SACRED HEART (+)” On New Mixtape

DC The Don just released his most recent mixtape, SACRED HEART (+) on all streaming platforms. While the project originally dropped during Christmastime in 2022 exclusively on SoundCloud, DC decided to feed a larger set of fans. Moreover, the 15-track project is an energetic, buzzing, and cohesive display of alternative hip-hop.

Furthermore, the Milwaukee, Wisconsin native plays with a lot of different sounds on this record. Of course, hip-hop runs quite strongly throughout it, whether it be through energetic verses or the percussion style. On the other hand, there’s also quite a bit of digital influence on this mixtape, calling back to genres like hyperpop, digicore, and more. Also, there’s a strong undercurrent of rock in many forms, whether emo, alternative, or otherwise. Overall, DC’s sound defies genre categorization, because him and so many others carve out their own lanes.

For those of you who already heard SACRED HEART (+), there is some unfortunate news. One of the album’s tracks, “SO SICK,” did not make it onto streaming services like Spotify. While this might disappoint some fans, sample clearance issues came into play. However, the new streaming release includes three tracks featured on the albums deluxe version. Moreover, these are “RUNWAY!”, “BREAK IN HALF,” and “BROTHERS.”

Meanwhile, these stylistic influences already came through on DC’s previous album, MY OWN WORST ENEMY. Although SACRED HEART (+) might have a deeper story behind it, MY OWN WORST ENEMY definitely has that going for it. On the project, the 23-year-old tackles his alter ego and the two warring sides of him that his creative artistry might suggest.

Still, what did you think of DC The Don’s latest mixtape, SACRED HEART (+)? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments and peep the tracklist for the project down below. Also, if you haven’t heard the tape yet, you can find it on your preferred streaming service. In addition, check out the music video for “SRT // UMBRELLA” below, as well. Today, he provides a better glimpse into his potential with the release of his debut project, Clark Street Baby. His new project is a double-disc effort with 31 songs in total. Clark Street Baby is a lengthy body of work but clearly, he had a stash of music that he wanted to unleash. The entire project is filled with features, as well as a slew of previously released records. NoCap, Cootie, Big Yavo, Li rye, and KATO2X appear on the tracklist of disc one. Disc two largely contain previously released records and collaborations. Gucci Mane, Quavo, Hotboy Wes, the late Big Scarr, Big30, and BigWalk Dog appear in the second half of the project.

We previously spoke to BiC Fizzle shortly after he inked a deal with Gucci Mane. He explained that he aims to create authentic, relatable music.

“I be just trying to rap, making real music. Trying to be an artist,” he said. He further explained that he wasn’t particularly determined to make music that dove into street life.

His new album undoubtedly accomplished that. Check out Bic Fizzle’s new project Clark Street Baby below.

He’s been crafting rhymes and hustling hard for years now, and it seems as though the street lyricist is beginning to get the flowers he deserves.
