A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie Delivers On His New Album “Me Vs. Myself”

After much anticipation, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie is back with the release of his new album, Me Vs. Myself. The Bronx-bred rapper returns after a nearly two year but the results were definitely worth waiting for.

Me Vs. Myself consists of 22 songs in total with several heavy-weight appearances. The previously released singles such as “B.R.O” ft Roddy Ricch, “Take Shots” ft. Tory Lanez, “Ballin” and the Kodak Black-assisted “Water (Drowning Pt. 2)” appear on the tracklist. Additionally, the project boasts features from G Herbo and H.E.R. Lil Durk also appears twice on the project on “24 Hours” and “Damn Homie.” Frequent collaborator and Highbridge The Label artist Don Q features on “Chanelly.”

A Boogie teased as A Boogie Vs. Artist shortly after his last studio album, leading to the release of 2021’s B4 AVA. However, the rapper kept a low profile since until he announced the release date in September. Unfortunately for fans, the album was further delayed after Drake and 21 Savage pushed back the release of Her Loss.

“Sorry but album dropping in December now, Drake was dropping the same day and I’m not with that,” he wrote. Evidently, it was a good choice, considering Drake and 21 Savage topped the Billboard 200 with the highest numbers for a hip-hop album in 2022.

Though A Boogie hasn’t dropped an album since 2020’s Artist 2.0, he’s dished out numerous features, many of them alongside the budding drill stars from New York. However, he also expanded beyond New York City with collabs alongside David Guetta, Kawhi Leonard, and more.

With the release of his new album, we’re excited to see what A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie gets up to in the new year. Check out Me Vs. Myself below and sound off with your thoughts on the project in the comments. Was it worth the wait? Let us know.

Icewear Vezzo & DJ Drama Tap Jeezy, Future & More On “Paint The City”

Icewear Vezzo is easily one of the hottest rappers out of Detroit right now and that’s due to his incredible output. After years of grinding, he landed a deal with Quality Control earlier this year and he’s been on go-mode ever since.

Earlier today, he unveiled his highly anticipated Gangsta Grillz mixtape alongside DJ Drama, Paint The City. The new project is undoubtedly a culmination of the respect that he’s gained in hip-hop this year. Icewear Vezzo connects with heavyweights on the tracklist, such as Jeezy, Future, Kodak Black and 2 Chainz. Additionally, Vezzo joins forces with frequent collaborators Peezy and GT. Paint The City brings Vezzo alongside some of his most frequent collaborators such as Antt Beatz, Foreva Rollin, June Da Genius, and Max Beats.

The latest effort from Icewear Vezzo comes months following the release of Rich off Pints 3, which earned critical praise across the board. Paint The City is a strong effort that certainly sets the stage for Icewear Vezzo’s 2023 run.

DJ Drama witnessed a resurgence in Gangsta Grillz tapes this year as a result of Tyler, The Creator’s Call Me If You Get Lost. Even though 2021 saw the mixtape series regain popularity, he’s hosted projects by Symba, Dreamville, Jim Jones, and now, Icewear Vezzo.

Dusty Locane Drops Off “Catch Da Flu”

Dusty Locane’s keeping the momentum high as the year comes to an end. The rapper made a mark in 2021 as the hype around his “ROLLIN N CONTROLLIN FREESTYLE” picked up. Though critics and fans often compared him to Pop Smoke, it hasn’t limited him. In fact, he continues proving that he’s a dominant force in his own right and uplifting the New York drill scene.

This week, the rapper released his latest body of work, Catch Da Flu. On the new project, he showcases his growth in the past two years. “I went from nothing in my bank account to $40K for a feature,” he raps through his deep gravelly voice on “TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS.” The 5-song opus captures his hunger, especially after having such a prolific year so far.

CATCH DA FLU is largely produced by Kajun Waters, who handled five out of the six tracks. However, Dusty also links up with Revenge of Mozart and Scubaliciouss for “BLOC WORC FREESTYLE (9HQ5).” It’s a short effort but one that continues to showcase Dusty Locane honing into his strengths and delivering blistering bangers.

CATCH DA FLU actually serves as Dusty’s fourth offering of the year. He unveiled ROLLIN N CONTROLLIN in August, featuring all three parts of the eponymous song. Then, he linked up with Rah Swish, Onpointlikeop and Ron Suno for SAY DAT, a collaborative effort that helped amalgamate the different drill sounds in each borough of New York.

It seems as if Dusty Locane is also revving up to elevate his team. Earlier this year, he dropped off NIGHTMARE ON FIFTH, highlighting himself and the artists he’s associated with.

We’re certainly not complaining about the influx of new music from Dusty Locane this year. Hopefully, we’ll be hearing just as much from him in the new year.

Rome Streetz Delivers “KISS THE RING” Album Feat. Conway, Westside Gunn, & More

It was a huge weekend for new hip-hop arrivals, and listeners are still taking in their first impressions of albums from names like Boldy James and Nicholas Craven, Drakeo The Ruler, Prodigy, and BIG30.

KISS THE RING is Rome Streetz on steroids,” the recording artist revealed in a press release. “This album is my deepest thoughts, feelings and experiences.  This is the culmination of all of my hard work and the times people said I couldn’t get lit making this type of music.”

“Fast forward, I blew past them all and now they gotta KISS THE RING.”

Boldy James & Nicholas Craven Drop Off “Fair Exchange No Robbery”

Even in comparison to his fellow hyper-prolific members of Griselda, Boldy James has a staggering rate of output. Just in May, the Detroit rapper released Killing Nothing with Real Bad Man, a 13-song LP with features from Knowledge The Pirate, CRIMEAPPLE, and more. In the year prior, he dropped Bo Jackson and Super Tecmo Bo, both collaborations with The Alchemist. In 2020, he dropped a whopping three albums.

But all of that is not to say that a Boldy drop isn’t exciting. On Fair Exchange No Robbery, James teams up with producer Nicholas Craven, who has an Alchemist-esque sensibility, delivering Boldy sample-heavy instrumentals that perfectly compliment the rapper’s matter-of-fact delivery.

Fair Exchange is a mellow listen, just as its cover art would indicate. The samples selected by Craven are largely warm and inviting 70s deep cuts. But the sonics can sometimes be misleading; on “Power Nap,” James’ lyrics are threatening, yet nestled in a lilting lullaby sample.

Check out the project below, and let us know what you think of it in the comments.

Tracklist

  1. Straight & Tall
  2. Stuck In Traffic
  3. Scrabble
  4. Town & Country

Billy Woods Drops Ethereal New Album, “Church”

Billy Woods is well-respected as one of the most elaborate and mysterious lyricists working today, with an inspired cult following that’s built up an independent empire for the New York native. He’s had (as usual) quite the prolific year, with a new album in April titled Aethiopes and a stand-out appearance on Earl Sweatshirt’s latest, SICK! Now, Woods has dropped a surprise project for fans produced by Messiah Musik that hits all the abstract hip-hop notes you’d expect.

Press around Church describes it as “an exploration of memory, faith, marijuana, and fate,” and explains that it tackles “the price of love and the cost of doing business.” Woods coasts through these topics with the same craftsmanship and narrative detail he’s known for, weaving verses that feel strung out and disjointed while keeping you in the track’s trance. Production-wise, the album is generally quite abstract and choppy with its atmospheric use of samples, soundscapes, and off-beat drums. There’s variety, too: boom-bap-turned-jazz-pastiche on the opener “Paraquat,” the lumbering and disorienting “Fever Grass,” and the trippy cloud rap on the closer “Magdalene.”

That last track features rapper Elucid, known for collaborating frequently with Woods as of late under the name Armandhammer. Church also features AKAI SOLO, Fat Ray, and FIELDED. Billy Woods is known for these extensive collaborations, such as his project with The Alchemist, Haram, in March of last year. He’ll also be touring in support of his new releases starting next month, so check your local venues to see if you can catch this mesmerizing set of tracks in the flesh. Check out Church below.

Posthumous Drakeo The Ruler Project, “Keep The Truth Alive,” Has Arrived

It’s been nearly a year since Drakeo The Ruler was tragically stabbed to death in Los Angeles, and while his fans continue to miss the “Talk To Me” hitmaker, his estate is doing their part to ensure his legacy lives on with his first posthumous album.

Keep The Truth Alive arrived at midnight on Friday (September 30) featuring 18 new tracks – the majority of which find Drakeo handling the beat by himself, although Ralfy the Plug did join him for “Suicide Dawn” and “Stop Me.”

As The Fader notes, many tracks on the project consist of bite-sized songs and skits, but the late lyricist’s rhymes are as poignant as ever, leaving plenty of mysteries for listeners to unravel with each stream.

Prodigy’s First Posthumous Album “The Hegelian Dialectic Volume 2: The Book Of Heroine”

The long-awaited posthumous album from Prodigy arrived in its entirety on Friday morning. The Hegelian Dialectic Volume 2: The Book Of Heroine is 12-songs in total with some epic features. DJ Premier, Big Daddy Kane, Faith Evans, Remy Ma, Big Noyd, and more appear on the tracklist.

The Hegelian Dialectic is a trilogy that Prodigy began prior to his death. The rapper released Hegelian Dialectic (The Book Of Revelation) in January 2017, months before his passing. His estate is currently plotting on the release and the final installment of the project.

The Hegelian Dialectic Volume 2: The Book Of Heroine is a reminder of the power of Prodigy’s pen to narrate vivid street tales with vulnerability and honesty.

Rest In Peace, Prodigy.

Big30 Makes A Grand Entrance On “Last Man Standing”

Big30’s exceptional run over the past two years led him to the release of his official debut album, Last Man Standing. The Memphis rapper’s latest body of work consists of 16 songs in total. Though he holds down th project on his own mostly, he brings along a few artists like Hotboii, ATL Jacob, Big Homiie G, and Lil Jairmy. However, the most significant feature comes on track 15, “Crying (Interlude),” which includes an outro from Pooh Shiesty over a jail phone.

Last Man Standing is certainly a strong statement for Big30, who has been grinding heavily since the release of King Of Killbranch.
