Doja Cat Returns With Deluxe Version Of Album: “Scarlet II: Claude Frollo”

Doja Cat is back in the spotlight, and she’s not letting the haters slow her down one bit. Despite facing criticism for nearly everything she does, the California rapper and singer still lets the hate motivate her. In fact, she received criticism for revealing the cover art for her new single “Masc.” Fans quickly took to the internet, with some amusingly mistaking the artwork for “pubic hair” or “sheep’s wool.” However, Doja Cat wasted no time in setting the record straight, urging everyone to move forward and grow while expressing her frustration at the misconceptions.

But, Doja Cat’s cover art revelation for “Masc” wasn’t just any ordinary release. Moreover, it was part of the promotion for Scarlet 2: Claude Frollo, the deluxe edition of her previous album. It’s actually the lead single of the project and features Teezo Touchdown. The project also boasts features from ASAP Rocky. Furthermore, it’s worth noting the inspiration behind the title Scarlet 2: Claude Frollo for those unfamiliar with the reference. Claude Frollo is the antagonist from the 1831 French novel “The Hunchback Of Notre-Dame” and Disney’s animated 1996 film adaptation. In a recent interview on The Therapy Gecko Podcast in February, Doja Cat shed light on why she chose to name the project after this character. She explained, “Because he is like a… is he a tyrant? He’s like a… I feel like it connects to the story of Scarlet in some way. And if you look up his personality traits and who he is and his story, you’ll understand kind of the whole connection.”

Doja Cat continued, “There’s a control aspect, like he just abuses his power and his control and is just dogmatic and is just a total c*nt. And all Esmerelda wanted to do was just be creative and sing and dance, but nasty old Claude Frollo was just having a field day on her, just being awful and a bad guy, stinky man.” This insight provides a deeper understanding of the thematic elements and narrative connections within Doja Cat’s project.

What do you think of the deluxe? Does it enhance the original Scarlet album, or does it fall short of expectations? Fans can rest assured that HNHH will be there every step of the way, providing updates on all things Doja Cat. So stay tuned for more news, and don’t miss out on the latest happenings in the world of music, right here with us.

Sematary Delivers 16-Song Mixtape “Bloody Angel”

If you are looking for a dose of instant energy go check out Sematary. His music is really different from most of the rappers even in his niche space. The California native has been successful with this artistic approach and making it all the more impressive, is that he is doing this independently. For 2024, Sematary is really looking to hammer home his unique star status with Bloody Angel.

This is his brand-new mixtape and follow-up to a 2023 five-song EP, King Of The Graveyard. Apparently, this was supposed to be some sort of sequel to that short collection of tracks, according to Genius. However, Sematary did not get favorable feedback on it, which led him to switching up how to proceed forward with Bloody Angel. Leading up to this mixtape’s release, the 23-year-old multi-talent put out a handful of singles for it.

Doe Boy Keeps It Business As Usual On New EP “Been Him”

Doe Boy is not going to shock anybody with his versatility. The Ohio rapper makes trunk-rattling trap music and doesn’t bother trying to switch things up from project to project. This makes him less pop-friendly than his label boss, Future, but it also means he’s consistent in terms of his subject matter and overall aesthetic. Been Him, Doe Boy’s latest EP, is a testament to this consistency. It’s 21 minutes of flexing over moody, hi-hat filled instrumentals.

“Flex appeal” is a phrase Doe Boy uses on the standout track “Pre Skool,” and it succinctly explains the thrill of listening to his music. It’s stylish and slick. There are no features on Been Him, but the rapper has no problem maintaining the spotlight with his relentless flow and grim storytelling. Despite only being 30, he spits with the authority of someone a decade older. This preternatural weariness really shines on “Call My Bluff” and “Shoulda Coulda Woulda,” with their G-funk influence and ominous piano chords.

Doe Boy Shines On Ominous Trap Instrumentals

The musical uniformity on Been Him is both a blessing and a curse. The production ensures that the EP has a sonic cohesiveness, but it also means that some of the tracks blend together. “Been Slime” and “Get Like Dat” are nondescript trap cuts that fail to generate much excitement, and “Still Slatt” rides a descending piano instrumental that fans have heard millions of variations of since Young Jeezy dropped Trap or Die in 2005. They aren’t bad, they’re just forgettable.

What are your thoughts on this new EP, Been Him, by Doe Boy? Is this his best project to date, why or why not? What songs do you like the most and why? Did Doe Boy manage to keep the project interesting without guest features? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Valee & Stan Lane Raise The Bar With Their Ice Cold EP “VLANE 2”

Valee has the ability to sound both menacing and unassuming on the microphone. There’s a grim intensity to his rhymes, which consists of hyperbolic boasts, but the rapper balances it out with a callousness that makes his boasts appear legitimate. When left unchecked this combination can get repetitive. Fortunately, VLANE 2 is an EP in which less translates to more. With producer Stan Lane at the helm, Valee’s verbal talents shine brighter than ever.

To call VLANE 2 brief would be an understatement. The EP is only five tracks and nine minutes in length, which means it never has a chance to overstay its welcome. Valee and Stan Lane take few shots over the course of the project, but none of the shots feel tossed off or left to chance. Every second of VLANE 2 is thought out, resulting in musical and lyrical consistency throughout. It’s the sort of consistency that only happens when one emcee and one producer are working in tandem. The opening track, “regret”, makes the EP’s conciseness unmistakably clear.

Valee & Stan Lane Surpass Their First EP

“CoMmandO” keeps the sleek, threatening vibe of the opener intact, but it’s the song “DigiDasH” that perfects the aesthetic Valee and Stan Lane are striving for. The latter cooks up a menacing production reminiscent of Metro Boomin’s darkest moments. The former sounds like he’s narrating a nightmare in which he’s the antagonist. “My comma’s going up like when you type quote unquote,” he spits. “That Gucci two different browns, we root beer float.” The fourth track, “SeE it”, sees Stan Lane channel his inner Chuck Inglish with a bassy, Cool Kids-esque instrumental.

“MooNpie CuT” wraps things up on a high note. Lane throws it back with an 80s R&B-laced production, while Valee channels the swagger of Kush & OJ era Wiz Khalifa. If that comparison sounds like a stretch, then Valee doubles down by referencing the Pittsburgh rapper: “Smoking out the bed he think he Wiz Khalifa burning.” It’s a smooth capper to a purposely skeletal outing, and it loops right back around to “regret”, inviting the listener to run VLANE 2 all the way back. The sequel is a marked improvement over the original, and a reminder that a focused EP can be more rewarding than an album triple the length.

Buddy Brings Effortlessly Fun Tunes On “Don’t Forget To Breathe”

Buddy, a Compton, California rapper and singer, is someone we feel does not get enough praise. He has some underrated solo hits, as well as some fun features. He has been a steady veteran in the genre for about seven years now and has consistently dropped solid projects. The same can be said about Buddy this time around too with Don’t Forget To Breathe.

This is now the fourth LP from him and his first since 2022. In fact, it was nearly two years to the day that Buddy put out Superghetto. That was a star-studded release, which included features from Tinashe, Blxst, T-Pain, and Ari Lennox. The guests on Don’t Forget To Breathe are nothing to sneeze at either. Buddy tapped BJ The Chicago Kid, Smino, Kent Jamz, and more.

Up until Don’t Forget To Breathe dropping, Buddy put out two promotional tracks. The first of the pair was “You 2 Thank,” which we had the chance to cover. Then, he put out the album’s biggest hit so far, which is “Like This.” It is a chill track that exudes themes of chasing your dreams and locking in to focus on yourself. Buddy is delivering very-well produced and performed cuts across the tight 12-song, 35-minute long tape.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album, Don’t Forget To Breathe, by Buddy? Is this the rapper’s best project of his career, why or why not? What songs are you gravitating toward and why? Bfb Da Packman’s Unique Style Is Apparent Throughout “Forget Me Not”

The hype around Bfb Da Packman and his new album Forget Me Not was heavily influenced by Drake. The Canadian superstar was going to make an appearance on track three, “Olympic S*** Talkin.” However, the day the project hit streaming, Bfb and Drizzy fans were severely disappointed. Outside of the up-and-coming Michigan MC getting a huge co-sign, people were expecting this to be moment in which The Boy responded to Kendrick Lamar.

When hip-hop fans first found out about this news, everyone was left in the dark. But Bfb Da Packman revealed that because of the “Like That” verse, it put his Drake feature on hold. This clearly signified that we were not going to get a diss response, but it still would have been cool to see these two work together. Drake has been giving Bfb Da Packman flowers for about a year and a half. Hopefully, we get that collab one day.

Listen To Forget Me Not By Bfb Da Packman

So, without an icon not making Forget Me Not, is this project still worth a listen? The short answer is hell yes! Bfb Da Packman is bringing some creative flare with the hilarious bars. The beats are also a standout, with Caasi handling most of the production. He brings menacing, head-nodding instrumentals across the tight 40-minute, 15-track album. One of the many gut-busting moments includes this bar from Bfb on “Rice.” “P***y so wet, gotta sit that s*** in rice.” There are tons of gems like that, and this project will keep you on your toes for the next “WTF” moment.

Rico Nasty Explores The Realms Of Dance With Boys Noize On New EP “HARDCORE DR3AMZ”

Rico Nasty is an underrated female MC in today’s hip-hop landscape. She likes to lean into the experimental side of the genre at times, but also has no problems going conventional either. Releasing music since 2016, the Maryland artist last put out a project in 2022 with Las Ruinas. She has been dropping some singles since that time, but her feature game is what continues to really impress as of late. Some of her standouts include “Ain’t No Way” from Denzel Curry’s Melt My Eyez See Your Future and “Pop” from BLUE LIPS. This past weekend, Rico Nasty made a small return with a new EP HARDCORE DR3AMZ.

For this three-song offering, Rico is working with an international friend of hers. Boys Noize, a German electronic and dance producer, has made tracks with her in the past called “Girl Crush” and “Money.” So, this marks the first time these two opposite talents have clashed for a project of any kind. We believe that this could be a route that Rico could do well in on a full listen.

The up-tempo production matches the wild energy of the “Smack A B****” MC to a tee. Up until HARDCORE DR3AMZ‘s release, the duo teased the project with one track being the opener “Arintintin.” She had a lot of fun making this laid-back EP, especially the closer “H.O.T.” Rico spoke with Hypebeast, saying, “Let the haters know something and give the lurkers a show! Making this was so refreshing and reminded me that everything doesn’t have to be so serious all the time.”

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP, HARCORE DR3AMZ, by Rico Nasty and Boys Noize? Is this the rapper’s most experimental project of his career, why or why not? Roc Marciano, The Alchemist & Animoss Produce Incredible Results With “Marciology”

Roc Marciano has been a staple of underground hip-hop in New York for about 12 years now. You can always count on him for top-tier lyricism, intriguing production, and a mic presence that commands attention. For 2024, the Long Island native has a lot live up to from last year. He had two of the stronger releases with Nothing Bigger Than The Program and the deluxe of The Elephant Man’s Bones with The Alchemist. Well, we are happy to report that Roc Marciano is off to one hell of a start with Marciology.

The legendary rapper and producer teased the album last week with the lead single “Gold Crossbow.” It was easily one of the most chilling songs of the year and it had us excited for the full body of work. Marci also produced that track, which is the case for this entire album. However, he was not totally alone for this record.

The Alchemist makes a welcome return and Animoss is in the mix as well. At the end of the year, this should be in end of the year debates and Marciano feels the same way. He went on Instagram to thank everyone who had a hand in bringing Marciology to life. However, he had to let everyone else know who really runs the rap game. “Can’t thank you brothers enough ❤ let’s run it ⬆ because let’s face it this s*** stale without me #pimpire #artthatkills 🌋 🌋🌋🐐
