Dom Corleo Celebrates Turning 22 With Sophomore Album “Under My Influence”

Dom Corleo is somebody who we have said doesn’t have too distinct of a style. However, the Fremont, California rapper did have us a little more intrigued with what he did with Veeze on “duh duh duh”. The track had quite a bit of personality thanks to the instrumental choice. The zig-zagging string sections and glitchy piano keys were playful and we do have to show a little love to the now 22-year-old’s performance. It’s blunt in a good way and he does ride the instrumental very well. After hearing it, all we could hope for is that it would translate in some way down the line. Well, impressively, Dom Corleo translates that momentum over to his newest album, Under My Influence.

It’s actually his sophomore tape and he released it to help extend his birthday celebration. Leading up to the release of Under My Influence, Corleo would go on to release “eighteen”, one of his most personal records to date. That’s another reason why this project succeeds. You get to learn a little bit more about him and his life behind closed doors. Here, we learn that he’s lost his grandmother and also has a daughter. The song is touching, as he explains how he grew up so fast and now after witnessing how quick life moves, he doesn’t want his child to get old. Fans have been reacting very positively to Under My Influence, and we can see why. Corleo is on to something, and we hope it continues!

RZA Shocks Fans With Classical Music Album, “A Ballet Through Mud”

RZA has gone in a new direction with his latest album, A Ballet Through Mud, which sees him collaborating with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra as led by Christopher Dragon. Rather than a hip-hop release, RZA taps into the genre of classical music for the project. “I found my old book of lyrics that were written from the age 14 to 19, and I wanted to find a way to put music to it, so I started that as the foundation, storytelling in a way that was not just confounded to the lyrics,” he told BET of the decision. “It was almost like the story started lyrically, and then I wanted to express it without having to say anything.”

Speaking with PEOPLE for a new interview, RZA also revealed that Andre 3000’s recent flute album, New Blue Sun, served as an inspiration for his new project. He began by recalling meeting up with the legendary rapper during the COVID-19 pandemic. “We both talked about [our albums] and went on our way and, of course, he did it. He put [New Blue Sun] out,” RZA said. “And I think the beauty of his is that it didn’t take as many people to translate. That’s the glitch when you’re dealing with an orchestra of 60 people. But when his album came out, it just inspired me to keep going. Like, ‘Yo, I’m going to put mine out as well.’” Check out A Ballet Through Mud below. Muni Long Shows Off Her Growth On New Album “Revenge”

Muni Long has come a long way since securing her first-ever Grammy for her 2022 hit, “Hrs and Hrs.” On Friday, the songstress unleashed her second album, Revenge. On the 14-track project, she delivers all of the honesty and emotion one would expect while putting both her growth as an artist and as a person on full display.

She chatted about the project with Billboard earlier this month and called it the “R&B album of the year,” setting the bar high and revealing what she thinks fans will love about it. “First of all, you have to be a bit deluded to do this [music],” she explained at the time. “But I have to believe that even before the album is finished. I had to know that’s what I wanted to do as I’m doing it because that energy and that frequency have to be infused into the music. That’s something a lot of music is missing on the energetic and confidence level — before anyone else validates you. You can tell that I didn’t just throw these tracks together. This project was well thought out and well-intentioned. People are going to appreciate that, and resonate with the music on a deeper level.”

What do you think of Muni Long’s new album, Revenge? Which of the tracks is your favorite? Does it live up to the hype? Share your thoughts in the comments section and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates. Check it out down below.

Strick Is At An “ALL TIME HIGH” After Dropping His Biggest Project Yet

We have not been talking about Strick a lot here at HNHH. However, based on our coverage of “RECIPE FOR LOVE”, he’s a guy you want to root for. He’s been at it for quite a bit in what he calls the “obstacle course that is the music industry”. After breaking through in 2017 with risk=reward, Young Thug and the crew over at YSL (Young Stoner Life Records) signed him to a deal in 2019. He would go on to drop five projects under them, but his biggest one yet sees him going back to his roots. Strick has dropped what is being billed as his sophomore LP, ALL TIME HIGH, along with the help of his OG team at CROWN & SWORD INC.

So how does this make you want to pull Strick? Well, even though this second album does not have ties to YSL (outside of a Young Thug feature), he continues to show love to them at every turn. The Lumberton, North Carolina native did so in his IG announcement for the arrival of ALL TIME HIGH. “#JEFFCOMINGHOME”, he wrote. Additionally, he penned a heartfelt message to as to what this album means to him and everything it took to get to this point. “I dedicate this album to my daughter through the last couple of years I struggled with love and searching for love when I ended up discovering real true unconditional love from my daughter! Devi I love you and you’re my heart! If it’s one thing you learn from your dad I pray that it’s to believe in yourself and never give up!! I love you princess!!”.

Doechii Makes A Statement With “Alligator Bites Never Heal”

There’s no sugarcoating it anymore, Doechii is now on the verge of superstar status after dropping off Alligator Bites Never Heal. This is the debut mixtape from the Tampa, Florida rapper and singer and its via Capitol Records and Top Dawg Entertainment. The 26-year-old rolled out the red carpet for this project slowly but surely through her SWAMP SESSION series on YouTube. Out of all of the songs, the ones that have made the final cut include “NISSAN ALTIMA”, “BULLFROG”, “BOOM BAP”, and “CATFISH”. Throughout her career, the “What It Is” MC has always been able to mix humor and aggressiveness in her music. However, Doechii is now adding more layers to some of her tracks on Alligator Bites Never Heal.

“STANKA POOH” is perhaps the greatest example of this, as she raps about her mortality and the type of legacy she would leave behind if she were to die today. On “DENIAL IS A RIVER”, Doechii gets introspective about a wacky breakup, various stages in her career trajectory, as well as her addictions all while being dynamic and comical in her vocal delivery. Another reason why this mixtape is excellent is because of the irony of “BOOM BAP”. We talked about this track previously and how it’s about how Doechii views herself as more than a “rappity rap” MC. However, a lot of this LP sees her perform over modernized 90’s era boom bap and with great succession at that. Outside of some of the best tracks being a little too short, this will go down as one of the most underrated listening experiences of 2024. Doechii is here y’all.

Destroy Lonely Refines His Signature Style On “Love Lasts Forever” Album

Destroy Lonely is an Opium artist through and through. He’s cut from the same cloth as his label boss, Playboi Carti, but he has managed to carve out his own lane. Lonely’s music is cloudier than Carti’s, with more of an emphasis on melody. Well, easier on the ear melodies, at least. The rapper’s second album, Love Lasts Forever, has arrived, and it bears this knack for melody out. Destroy Lonely manages to hold down 21 tracks with only two features, and provide a varied exploration of his sound. “Forever,” the intro, is a surprisingly pop-friendly excursion. It mashes up synths and Autotune with a mid-song beat switch that goes deceptively hard.

The rest of Love Lasts Forever is fun of these fun surprises. Lil Uzi Vert hopes on a propulsive, tribal sounding pattern on “Love Hurts.” Destroy Lonely sounds utterly hypnotic over the lean-drenched beat to “Pimp Talk.” It sounds like “Still Tippin” updated for Gen Z in the best possible way. The album does run into the flaw of most 20 plus song releases, which is that some songs blend into each other. “Pimp Talk” cancels out the need for “Cadillac,” the same way the spectacularly trippy “Extra High” takes the thunder away from the similarly sounding “Honestly.” A shorter version of Love Lasts Forever is likely better, but it’s still a great sophomore outing for Destroy Lonely.

Big Sean Delivers His Most Mature Album Yet With “Better Me Than You”

The road to get here was long and difficult. Big Sean didn’t sugarcoat. He was honest with fans about all the personal turmoil and growth he had to go through to get the album recorded. It’s finally here. Better Me Than You is on streaming, and it’s excellent. The album really showcases Big Sean’s growth, and is a sonic manifestation of everything he’s been saying on social media during the rollout. He sounds like he is in a much healthier place than he was when he was younger. There’s still scores to settle, and rappers to rag on, but there’s an awareness that it’s not all that important at the end of the day.

The singles still sound pristine as ever. “Precision” is the best “banger” on the album, and that’s not a bad thing. Big Sean sounds hungry as ever over the soul sample made famous by Three 6 Mafia. He still has that elastic, endless energy in his voice. “Precision” doesn’t really reflect the rest of Better Me Than You, though. The bulk of the album is dedicated to soulful, mid-tempo cuts where Big Sean can take stock of his life. “Break the Cycle” flips a Gap Band interpolation into a self-help anthem courtesy of of Charlie Wilson. “Boundaries” is is a heartfelt airing out of issues over a snappy instrumental. In truth, the only song that feels truly out of place is the single “Yes.” It’s a reminder of what Big Sean sounded like when he was trying to strain for hits. He was smart to focus on quality bars and non-trendy sounds for the rest of what’s here.

Kehlani Delivers Breezy & Summery R&B Vibes For “While We Wait 2”

Kehlani has their die-hard fans jumping for joy this week because they now have While We Wait 2. If this title looks familiar to those not totally in the know, it’s because they have While We Wait in their discography. That was their third mixtape, and it hit DSPs back in 2019. Kehlani didn’t have a major rollout for this second project of 2024, as they hinted at it on their Instagram just about a week ago. There are actually a couple of reasons as to why this wasn’t being teased that long.

For starters, Kehlani delivered their fourth album CRASH back in late June. Secondly, the alternative R&B veteran announced the North American leg of their CRASH World Tour about five weeks prior to WWW2. It’s also worth mentioning they will be hitting the road on September 4. Finally, Kehlani said themselves that this project was completed in a blistering time frame. In a recent Instagram post they wrote, “We made this tape in my back house in two weeks with all people I really dearly love… It was a breezy process and nobody thought hard. Just some feelings in 90 degree weather.” You can definitely hear that in the performances and instrumentals in a good way. Kehlani sounds carefree and chill on this mixtape, making this just as blissful for the listener.

Juicy J Makes A Left Turn With Jazzy New Album “Ravenite Social Club”

Juicy J is a legend. He’s not, however, known for his versatility. He stays trippy, and has stayed trippy for most of his career. He makes hard-hitting Memphis anthems, whether he’s solo or with Three 6 Mafia. It is a feature and not a bug. That said, Juicy J threw us for a loop with his new album. Ravenite Social Club is as sophisticated and slick as its title and artwork would lead you to believe. The opening track, with its dramatic soul arrangements and sound effects, perfectly sets the stage. This is an expensive sounding album, and Juicy J is more than up to the task of matching the production behind the mic.

We start off a little bumpy with the second song, “The Higher Up’s.” The “corporate America” refrain is a genuinely bad hook, and the rest of the song isn’t good enough to overcome this formative flaw. Juicy J ventures into social commentary elsewhere on Ravenite Social Club, but it goes over much better on a song like “Don’t Go Out.” The highlights, though, tend to be the ones that blend the retro aesthetic with Juicy J’s melodic flows. “Everything All Good” and “Suicide Doors” are stone cold stunners, between the production and nimble wordplay that belies the rapper’s age. The latter is bolstered by a standout guest verse from Cordae. Ravenite Social Club could probably be a little bit shorter, but overall, it proves to be one of J’s best solo releases.

Luh Tyler Finally Delivers His Debut Album “Mr. Skii”

Luh Tyler’s star has been flickering for about the last year and a half. 2022 saw him drop one of his biggest tracks even to this day with “Law & Order pt. 2”. However, he really broke through last year with his debut mixtape My Vision. The teenage sensation from Florida would go on to include songs like “Back Flippin”, “Ransom”, which saw him develop his connection with Lil Uzi Vert, as well as with multiple other features. That project allowed Tyler to show off his gravelly and whispery flows to a broader audience. Now, Luh Tyler is carrying the momentum from that tape and multiple features to drop off Mr. Skii.

This is the long-awaited debut album, and it comes after a slew of singles. “First Show”, “Change My Wayz”, “Young N****”, and “2 Slippery” were first. Then, the night before its release, Tyler went onto to include “Stayed Down” and “7 AM in Munich” to that already large stack. Now, with a bigger budget and even more recognition, he’s working with bigger names from across Gator Country such as BossMan Dlow, Kodak Black, and BLP KOSHER. Tyler does ride some punchier and trappier beats on this project in comparison to the airier and minimal instrumentals he typically selects. It’ll be up to you to decide if you think his risk taking paid off, so give Mr. Skii a try below.
