He has been behind bars since Dec. 23, 2022, where he was convicted of one felony count each of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, discharging a firearm with gross negligence, and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.

Tory Lanez Sentencing Date Postponed, Judge Lifts Gag Order

It’s been nearly two months since a jury convicted Tory Lanez for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. The dramatic trial became one of the most discussed legal matters of the year, especially as new details surrounding Tory and Megan’s relationship emerged. Megan took the stand to testify against Tory, as well as her former best friend, Kelsey Nicole. Each shared their accounts of the evening, ultimately securing a win for prosecutors. Tory was convicted of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, possession of a concealed, unregistered firearm, and negligent discharge of a firearm. The rapper’s facing some serious time behind bars that will undoubtedly have a negative impact on his career. He’s facing over two decades in prison and the possibility of deportation, though he’s still aiming for an appeal.

In recent months, the rapper’s made several changes to his team. In mid-January, reports emerged that he hired Casey Anthony’s former lawyer, Jose Baez, to help with his appeal. Baez will work closely with Matthew Barhom and David Kenner, who famously represented Suge Knight on a robbery charge that led to a probation sentence. Over the past few months, they’ve prepared to file a motion for a new trial, beginning with postponing the sentencing date.

Gag Order On Tory Lanez Lifted

Though Tory Lanez was initially expected to face a judge for his sentencing last month, his plans to appeal have led to several delays. Per LA Mag’s Meghann Cuniff, the judge agreed to push back the sentencing date to April 10th, 2023 as the rapper and his legal team appeared in court. This will provide Tory’s team more time to prepare a new trial motion and give the prosecutors the opportunity to draft a written opposition to the request.

In addition to getting the sentencing date postponed until next month, Judge Herriford also lifted the gag order on Tory Lanez that blocked him from speaking on Megan Thee Stallion or the case itself. The gag order was a point of contention prior to the trial beginning, even landing Tory behind bars for violating the restaining order against him. It seems likely that we might hear some sort of statement from him in the near future. We’ll keep you posted on further updates surrounding Tory Lanez’s case.

Is Megan Thee Stallion Still Signed To 1501 Certified Entertainment?

Megan Thee Stallion has kept a relatively low profile following the conviction of Tory Lanez for assaulting her, leaving fans to worry. However, after publicly being spotted at a surprise dinner to celebrate her birthday nearly two weeks ago, the chatter began to slow down. Even Carl Crawford, the CEO of her estranged record label, even took a vow to refrain from addressing her on social media.

Although the parties are still tied up in an ongoing legal battle due to Crawford’s seemingly declaration of peace, some are beginning to wonder, is Megan still signed to 1501 Certified Entertainment? Despite winning a minor victory against the label back in late December that cleared the rapper of any further albums under the company, according to TMZ, the war hasn’t been won just yet.

Despite her latest album, Traumazine, released in August, being her fourth album and final album on the label, to which the presiding judge over the case agreed, Megan Thee Stallion remains on 1501 Certified. In the meantime, the case will proceed to trial as Meg is also suing for $1 million in damages.

The trial date has not yet been set.

Carl Crawford Vows To Stop Discussing Megan Thee Stallion On Social Media

In late December, Megan Thee Stallion saw a jury convict Tory Lanez on three felony counts stemming from her allegation that Lanez shot her in the foot in 2020. Lanez was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic handgun, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharge of a firearm with gross negligence (as noted by The New York Times).

Lanez is appealing the ruling and preparing for his sentencing tomorrow, February 28, but Meg has another complicated legal matter still up in the air.

Also dating back to 2020, when the Houston rapper claimed 1501 was preventing her from releasing new music, Meg has sued her record label, 1501 Certified Entertainment. Throughout the ongoing battle, Meg exchanged barbs online with 1501 CEO Carl Crawford. Today, February 27, Crawford commented to TMZ.

“Unfortunately, me and Megan, we haven’t talked since 2019, so we’ve been going through I guess what you guys see online, and like I said, it’s unfortunate as well because I never wanted to have a situation where I was going back and forth with her on the internet,” he said.

Crawford later added, “I never had any problems with Megan Thee Stallion. It’s just the social media stuff. It really just turned really, really sour. You take this social media part out of it, [and] we don’t have a problem. So, yeah, this is the moment for me to — I’m done with that. You won’t hear me mention Megan Thee Stallion’s name in the media unless I’m doing something like this or it’s just a big-time interview [and] I gotta say it. But you won’t see me texting or making a post or doing any of that stuff that would cause social media to go crazy.”

In late December, a Texas judge denied 1501’s request to not count Meg’s 2021 project Something For Thee Hotties as an album toward her obligations to her record deal, allowing her lawsuit to continue to a formal trial.

Megan Thee Stallion had filed in February 2022, requesting that Something For Thee Hotties be deemed an album to effectively release her from her contract with 1501. After releasing Traumazine last August, she amended her suit to specify that Traumazine could also be counted as her fourth and final record for 1501, additionally suing for $1 million in damages.

Carl Crawford Apologizes To Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion’s ongoing legal war with Carl Crawford continues after she called out her label 1501 Certified Ent. The Houston rapper claimed that she signed a bad contract early in her career without the opportunity to negotiate. Once she inked a deal with Roc Nation for management, things went further left. Meg claimed that the label blocked her from releasing new music to the dismay of her fans but ultimately, a judge granted her a temporary restraining order that allowed her to drop her album.

Unfortunately, the feud between Meg and Crawford didn’t simply exist in the courtroom but also, bled into the world of social media. While Meg earned plenty of accolades during this period, Crawford’s reputation took a massive hit. During a recent interview with TMZ, he explained that he’s trying to rebuild the label from the ground up after bringing on Kai “Verse” Tyler as the new president of 1501 Certified Ent. Crawford explained that he lacked experience in the music industry, which he partially blamed for his spat with Meg. However, with Tyler’s help, he feels they can reclaim their position in the music industry.

Carl Crawford Says Social Media Soured Megan Thee Stallion Relationship

Even though Megan and Crawford are still duking it out in court, the 1501 Certified Ent. founder acknowledged that he made some mistakes in their relationship. Admitting they haven’t talked since 2019, he said that he “never had problems with Megan Thee Stallion. “It’s just the social media stuff, it turned really, really sour. You take this social media part out of it, we don’t have a problem,” he said. “You not gon’ hear me mention Megan Thee Stallion’s name in the media unless I’m doing something like this.”

However, he also addressed the “petty” photo where he posed with Tory Lanez after she accused the Canadian rapper of shooting her. Crawford admitted that he was trying to troll Meg but he stated that he doesn’t have any allegiance to Lanez in this situation. “I don’t stand with nobody in that situation,” he said. “I think I just got wrapped up in the whole scheme of things that was going on. We all make mistakes. I’m not on nobody’s side with that.” Check the full interview with TMZ above and check out the full timeline of Meg vs. Carl Crawford’s issues here.
