Kota The Friend Pens A Cute & Vibey Love Story With “PNW”

Kota the Friend is one of the most consistently sound rappers right now. While he might not be getting the same love as some of the top-tier lyricists, his pen game is among the best in the modern era. The Brooklyn, New York native recently expanded his Lyrics to GO series with the fifth installment at the end of January. It was another solid entry for Kota the Friend and today he is back with a new single “PNW.”

This single is a delicate love story that sees Kota wanting to stick around with a love interest even through all of her changes. Another layer behind “PNW” or “Pacific Northwest,” is that this woman can be complicated just like the weather in the region. The final fun detail about this single is that it dropped March 19, which is also the first day of spring, a change in the seasons. Kota is always incorporating some cool concepts to his music and this is another example of that.

In terms of the meat and potatoes of “PNW,” Kota is bringing some excellent yet simple writing that allows the listener to easily follow the story. The beat is equally simplistic, and it fits the environment that he is trying to create. The music video is the cherry on top as he held a private listening session for “PNW” for fans in Oregon, which also ties into the title. He wound up filming the reactions and turned it into a music video. Again, Kota is one of the best in the business and this proves it.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “PNW,” by Kota the Friend? Is this one of his best storytelling tracks ever, why or why not? Where do you rank this song in his 2024 catalog? Quotable Lyrics:

Give a f*** what you had did, brought your storm into my crib
Damn, girl
But I love watching your sunrise, your glow hard to come by
And that make it all worth it, we all get lost sometimes
But maybe you all perfect, crazy how love dies
They like your fall version, I want you year-round

Chloe Bailey Wants Real Love On “FYS”

Chloe and Halle Bailey have built strong careers for themselves over the past couple of years. Both are multi-talented in their own way and it has led to some amazing defining moments for them. For example, Halle landed the starring role in the live-action remake of the beloved Disney film The Little Mermaid. For Chloe, she has been thriving in the modeling department. All the proof you need is her bevy of Instagram photo dumps that fans have been thirsting over. Today though, Chloe Bailey is ditching the cameras and bright lights for a new single called “FYS.”

This marks the soon-to-be 26-year-old’s first single since the fourth teaser to her debut album, In Pieces. The title track dropped nearly a year ago to the day, so it has been a long time coming for Chloe. She is another R&B songstress with a buttery smooth voice. For us, it is one that we enjoy hearing when we can.

The main message she is getting across on “FYS” or (F*** Your Status), is that Chloe wants to love the person and not what they own. She sums it perfectly, “So I wrote this song to be like “f*** your status,” it doesn’t matter because I have this on my own. So you having cars and you having money it doesn’t really matter… I just want to love you.” Chloe continues, “This song is really just about loving someone for who they are and not what they have or can give you monetarily wise.”

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “FYS,” by Chloe Bailey? Is this the best solo song release of her career, why or why not? What is your favorite element of the song and why? How long do you think we will have to wait for her sophomore album? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Quotable Lyrics:

Feels so good like that (Like that)
When you hit it right like that (Like that)
Go another round for the night (For the night)
Then three more times like that, like, “Woah”
I know that you in love with the gyat (With the gyat)
You squeezin’ so tight you can’t let go

Dominic Fike’s New “Ant Pile” Single Finds Him Reminisicing On A Past Lover

Back in 2020, Dominic Fike offered up an enticing debut project in the form of What Could Possibly Go Wrong, on which he delivered 14 featureless tracks. Since then, we’ve seen him make his acting debut on season two of HBO’s Euphoria, quickly becoming a fan favourite among household names like Zendaya and Jacob Elordi. Now that he has more free time to pour back into music, the “3 Nights” hitmaker is gearing up to drop his sophomore album, Sunburn.

The singer shared the big news earlier this month, along with confirmation of a July 7 release date. So far he’s given us one single, “Dancing In The Courthouse,” which was followed this New Music Friday (May 26) by another sure-fire hit. Called “Ant Pile,” the latest release finds Fike candidly reflecting on his first love, which definitely came with plenty of awkward moments during his younger years. As Uproxx notes, the forthcoming project is autobiographical in nature, and inspired by his childhood in Florida.

Quotable Lyrics:

The higher-ups will tell you what you can’t eat
Where you can’t go, how to dress, how to act decent
I’ve seen you fall to pieces
Seen you completely naked
There’s no more ways you can surprise me
