Nicki Minaj Reflects On Her Relationships With Drake And Lil Wayne In A New ‘Seeing Green’ Video

Nicki Minaj has worked with so many artists over the years, but she may share the closest bond with two of them: Lil Wayne and Drake. The trio has been through a lot together, as Minaj and Drake both launched their careers and first found major commercial success while working with Wayne and his Young Money Entertainment label. The trio reunited recently on “Seeing Green,” a new song shared as part of a reissue of Minaj’s early-career mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty. Now Minaj has shared a new behind-the-scenes video for the song, which doubles as a look back on her relationships with Wayne and Drake.

Aside from recent clips of Minaj showing off various looks, the video also features images and videos, both recent and from various other points in her career, of herself with Drake and/or Wayne. The video isn’t really much of a behind-the-scenes look at how “Seeing Green” was made, but it does serve as a touching display of how much Minaj values what she has been through with Wayne and Drake.

After the song was released, Minaj admitted that both Drake and Wayne bested her on the song, writing, “All I know is that they washed me on #SeeingGreen I’m a woman enough to admit when I’ve been washed on a track by the Greats [laughing emoji]. and it’s ok #Barbz I’ve washed them b4. We’ll live through this one. I was still a lil rusty. I washed them in my head on #Fractions.”

Nicki Minaj Admits Drake And Lil Wayne ‘Washed’ Her On Their Collaboration ‘Seeing Green’

To the surprise of her extremely faithful fans, Nicki Minaj re-uploaded her beloved mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty to streaming services on Friday, with three brand new songs. One of them is “Seeing Green,” a collaboration with Drake and Lil Wayne, which marked the trio’s first song together since their 2018 effort “No Frauds.” While the song was extrmely well-received, she had to admit that she felt differently about it.

In a post on Twitter, Minaj confessed that her verse on the track was not the best out of the three in her eyes. “Way too many,” she wrote in response to someone who asked for her favorite Drake and Lil Wayne bar ever. “All I know is they washed me on #SeeingGreen. I’m woman enough to admit when I’ve been washed on a track by the Greats.” She added, “It’s ok #Barbz I’ve washed them b4. We’ll live through this one. I was still a lil rusty. I washed them in my head on #Fractions.”

Minaj also revealed how long it took for her to complete her verse. “Honestly I kept coming back to it for like a week,” she revealed. “I have like 7 diff versions of my verse on that song. and no I’m not gonna upload them. and I took out a very funny line from #Fractions a cpl days b4 we released. It was such a fkng Ki”

DJ Khaled, Lil Wayne, And Jeremih Are ‘Thankful’ For Their Blessings In A Reverent New Video

The rollout for DJ Khaled’s recently released twelfth studio album Khaled Khaled continues today with the video for the album’s opener, the Lil Wayne and Jeremih-featuring “Thankful.” The song, which samples Bobby “Blue” Bland’s 1978 soul single “Ain’t No Love in the Heart of the City.” opens the album with a worshipful, gospel-inflected meditation on the success the three men have experienced over the course of their careers, as well as Jeremih’s recovery from a recent bout of COVID-19.

“Thankful” follows the Jay-Z and Nas-featuring “Sorry Not Sorry” (which also featured a harmonious, undercover appearance from Jay-Z’s wife Beyonce, as “Harmonies By The Hive”) and the dancehall-accented “Where You Come From” featuring Bounty Killer, Buju Banton, and Capleton as the latest single from Khaled Khaled to receive the video treatment — a departure from the video-crazy rollout for Khaled’s last album, Father Of Asahd.

The more measured release strategy seems to be paying off, as Hits Daily Double projects a No. 1 debut looming for Khaled — his third in five years, after Major Key and Grateful. Father Of Asahd debuted at No. 2 in 2019, prompting Khaled to rebuke Billboard for changing its counting rules.

Lil Wayne Recalled Being ‘Infatuated’ And ‘Impressed’ With DMX When They Toured Together

The passing of DMX is something that’s still a painful thought for many. It was just last weekend that the late rapper’s family and friends came together for a pair of memorial services to honor his life, one of which took place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Despite being a week removed from these services, people are still finding ways to honor the hip-hop legend like Lil Wayne did during his performance at Miami’s Trillerfest on Saturday.

During his set, Wayne recalled a time during his career where he toured as much as “six months out the year.” He specifically used the moment to reflect on meeting DMX during the Cash Money Ruff Ryders tour which took place back in 2000.

“When we saw DMX, we all fell in love,” he said. “But when I got on tour with him, now you in the hotel lobby, you in the backstage, you run across the n**** and he actually say something to you. And when you see this n**** talk like how he rap and you see this n**** is what he is and you see this n**** got a zillion dogs with him, then a zillion dogs with him, it’s impossible not to be obsessed, infatuated, motherfucking impressed, whatever.”

His comments come after DMX previously confirmed that Wayne would appear on his upcoming album. The late rapper shared the news during an interview on the Drink Champs podcast where he revealed the project also includes features from Griselda Records, Usher, Pop Smoke and U2’s Bono.
