Lil Uzi Vert Denies ‘Just Wanna Rock’ Being the Philly Anthem Over ‘Dreams and Nightmares’

Lil Uzi Vert isn’t rolling with DJ Drama’s crowning of “Just Wanna Rock” as the new Philly anthem. Uzi stepped into The Shade Room and said it is too early to make that statement.

“I don’t think so,” Lil Uzi told TSR. “That song like been around for a very long time, and that song is still hitting exactly the same way. I’m just gonna have to see, you know, in a couple of years or a decade or whatever.”

Ahead of the NFC championship game, Lil Uzi Vert performed “Just Wanna Rock” leading the Philadelphia Eagles on the field. The spot, along with many other Philly moments, was normally reserved for Meek Mill’s “Dreams & Nightmares,” but DJ Drama says it’s over for that.

Uzi is aligned with DJ Drama’s Generation Now, so it’s not a surprise to hear him say it.

“You did see Lil Uzi Vert bring out the Eagles to victory against the 49ers with ‘I Just Wanna Rock,’” Drama said. “I think it’s fair to say ‘I Just Wanna Rock,’ with all due respect, has replaced ‘Dreams & Nightmares’ as the new anthem of Philadelphia and the new anthem of the Philadelphia Eagles this year.”

Meek had a response:

Questlove Reveals that Will Smith Was Supposed to Make A Surprise Appearance At Grammys, but Had to Cancel Due to Bad Boys 4 Filming

Grammys 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop Tribute

It’s been a while since Will Smith has been on a stage at an awards show, but allegedly, he was scheduled to make a surprise appearance at the Grammy’s this past Sunday night. However, his comeback performance was derailed due to conflicts with filming Bad Boys 4.

In the weeks leading up to the Grammy’s, host Trevor Noah had hinted that there would be surprise guest appearances, but had kept quiet about specifics. However, Questlove, who produced a 10-minute 50th anniversary of hip-hop tribute performance for the ceremony, let one no-show surprise guest name slip on the red carpet.

Questlove told a Variety reporter that he was going to give the spoiler alert away. “Will Smith was a part of the festivities tonight, but they started shooting Bad Boys 4 this week. There were a lot of preliminary shots that he had to do, so we had to lose Will.”

The show did, however, go on without Smith. Missy Elliott, Run-DMC, LL Cool J, The Roots, Big Boi, Busta Rhymes, GloRilla, Rakim, Ice-T, Lil Baby, GloRilla, Lil Uzi Vert, and more showcased their talents in a commemorative tribute to the genre.

Before the performance, Dr. Dre was honored with the inaugural Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. He spoke about the impact that hip-hop had on him while saying that he was happy to be influencing the next generation of artists. The full performance can be seen below.

Questlove said that pulling off the show took a lot of hard work, telling the New York Times that “it was a lot of mountains to move to make this happen,” noting that Will Smith was not the only celebrity who couldn’t make it. Future and Lil’ Wayne also had toco cancel due to other commitments.

It’s been almost a year since Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars in March of 2022.

Lil Uzi Vert Responds To DJ Drama Claiming “Just Wanna Rock” Replaced “Dreams & Nightmares” As Philadelphia Anthem

DJ Drama faced a little bit of backlash when he said Lil Uzi Vert replaced Meek Mill for Philadelphia’s anthem. Uzi walked the Eagles out to the field ahead of their high-stakes match-up against the 49ers for a spot in the Super Bowl. “Just Wanna Rock” built excitement in the stadium, which Drama felt was proof that the single replaced Meek Mill’s “Dreams & Nightmares” intro as the Philly anthem.

“I think it’s fair to say that ‘I Just Wanna Rock’ has replaced — with all due respect — ‘Dreams and Nightmares’ as the new anthem of Philadelphia. As the new anthem of the Philadelphia Eagles this year,” Drama said. “I’m looking forward to hearing that song many, many times [during] Super Bowl weekend.”

Drama signed Lil Uzi Vert to Generation Now. However, Uzi didn’t agree with Drama’s assessment of the two songs. Speaking to Revolt TV at the Grammys, the “Money Longer” rapper showed love to Meek Mill and explained that “Dreams & Nightmares Intro” holds a decade-worth of weight.

“I don’t think so,” he responded after he was asked about whether his song surpassed Meek’s hit record, per TheShadeRoom. “That song like been around for a very long time, and that song is still hitting exactly the same way. I’m just gonna have to see, you know, in a couple of years or a decade or whatever.”

He also explained that he has a strong relationship with Meek Mill, who he considers a “big homie” in hip-hop. “[Meek] that’s a big Homie from Philly, and that’s like one of my big homies,” he added. “So I just like feed off the energy that he gives actually to be able to even produce or put out that type of music. So like, hopefully, like s**t, hopefully. He [Meek] would hope that for me too. Not yet though it’s too early to tell.”

Following DJ Drama’s comments, Meek Mill also chimed in on the matter. He didn’t necessarily take offense but he made it clear that “Dreams & Nightmares” proved that it has staying power. “Intro been lighting the world for 10 years!” he tweeted in response to Drama’s comments. “Like shaking rooms for years!”

Lil Uzi Vert performed his latest hit record on Sunday night at the Grammys during the Hip-Hop 50th segment.

DJ Drama Thinks Lil Uzi Vert’s “Just Wanna Rock” Has Taken Philly From Meek Mill’s “Dreams & Nightmares”

DJ Drama Says a Failed Attempt at an Outkast Gangsta Grillz Led to "The Art of Storytelling, Pt. 4"

DJ Drama Says Lil Uzi Vert Replaced Meek Mill With Philly’s Anthem

DJ Drama doesn’t think Meek Mill’s iconic Dreams & Nightmares intro has the same grip on Philadelphia as it once did. This week, the iconic Gangsta Grillz DJ caught up with TMZ following the Eagles’ win on Sunday. As the team marched out with Lil Uzi Vert at the front of their parade, the rapper’s single, “Just Wanna Rock” blared through the speaker system. As a result, Drama thinks Uzi’s “Just Wanna Rock” replaced Meek Mill’s “Dreams & Nightmares” intro as the official anthem of Philadelphia right now.

It might be an overreach to say that it’s replaced “Dreams & Nightmares.” After the Eagles won on Sunday, videos emerged of Meek Mill’s hit record playing through the Philadephia streets. Meek was incredibly excited after the Eagles win, as well. He later offered to perform at a club for free to celebrate the victory.

“Just Wanna Rock” appears to be the launching point of Uzi’s long-awaited project, Pink Tape. Earlier this month, Uzi came through with a high-energy performance of the single at the Apollo Theater for Drake’s show. Perhaps, we could see a new single drop sometime soon.

The rapper hinted at the release of Pink Tape last year before he dropped off Red + White. He hasn’t provided a clear release date on the project, though he indicated that it would drop in February. Considering the momentum that “Just Wanna Rock” built in recent times, it feels like February is a better time than any for the follow-up to Eternal Atake
