Lil Nas X And Olivia Rodrigo Are Set To Close Out ‘SNL’s 46th Season This Month

May 22 will mark the finale of Saturday Night Live‘s 46th season and in the final two weeks, the show’s musical guests will be two of 2021’s most successful, chart-topping young stars. May 15, “Driver’s License” singer Olivia Rodrigo will perform in an episode hosted by The Prom‘s Keegan-Michael Key, while the season finale will feature Ana Taylor-Joy of The Queen’s Gambit and “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” rabble-rouser Lil Nas X.

Incidentally, each of the young music stars’ No. 1 hits have been the subjects of sketches on previous episodes of SNL. In February, guest host Regé-Jean Page and cast regulars Alex Moffat, Beck Bennett, Bowen Yang, Kenan Thompson, Mikey Day, and Pete Davidson participated in a tongue-in-cheek analysis of “Driver’s License” from the ironic perspective of the all-male denizens of a pool hall unexpectedly relating to the song’s teenage emotions. Rodrigo called the sketch “the best birthday present ever” in a tweet expressing her approval.

Meanwhile, the conservative establishment-trolling video for “Montero” was lightly lampooned in an early-April sketch that saw Chris Redd stand in as Lil Nas to address the kerfuffle over the video and its tie-in “Satan shoes” from MSCHF. The sketch saw Redd-as-Nas perform a lap dance on “God” to balance out the bad vibes from his similar moves on the devil in the “Montero” video, minus the neck-snapping at the end. Nas’ reply was equally cheeky, as he joked “SNL going to hell.”

In addition, Nas responded to SNL’s announcement, revealing that he’d be performing a new song in addition to “Montero.”

Lil Nas X Drops A New Version Of ‘Montero’ He Made Entirely With Mouth Sounds

Lil Nas X is not one to be content with releasing just one version of a song, especially when there’s potential success to be milked from remixes. That’s something he’s joked about with “Old Town Road” (which had a bunch of different versions) and a strategy he’s also put into practice with “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” So far, he has released versions of the song subtitled “But Lil Nas X Is Silent The Entire Time,” “SATAN’S EXTENDED Version,” and “but it’s lofi and something you can study to lol.” Now he’s back with another one: “Montero (Call Me By Your Name) (But Lil Nas X Makes All The Sounds With His Mouth).”

The video sees different clips of the rapper in front of colorful backgrounds arranged in a Brady Bunch grid on the screen, like what Jimmy Fallon and The Roots have done on The Tonight Show time and time and time and time and time again over the years. As for the recording itself, with all the sounds layered on top of each other, it’s actually a decent reproduction of the original song.

Lil Nas X Claps Back At Critics Who Claim He’s ‘Being Gay For Success’

Lil Nas X has faced a lot of backlash for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” both the song and its controversial video. On top of that, there was that line of “Satan Shoes,” which added fuel to the fire. For the most part, the singer has stuck to his trolling ways, but things took a turn when some people questioned his sexuality, claiming it was a front. That prompted Lil Nas to take to Twitter to set the record straight.

“Y’all love saying i’m being gay for success but can’t name 5 successful gay male artists in the last 10 years to save your life,” he said in one tweet. The responses piled up. One person claimed Lil Nas was dissing other artists, but the singer quickly denied that. “I’m not dissing anyone,” he said. “I’m acknowledging the fact that we aren’t usually as successful as our peers. what’s not clicking starbucks spellman.” Another hopped in and took a shot at Lil Nas and his “Montero,” but once again, he had another great response for it.

“It’s a million n****s in the industry that make nothing but songs about women and y’all don’t complain,” he wrote. “But i make my first song about a n**** and now it’s my entire artistry. y’all crack me up man.”

The Second Season Of Lil Dicky’s ‘Dave’ Premieres This Summer And Features Lil Nas X, Doja Cat, And More

Earlier this month, Lil Dicky declared, “That’s a wrap on season 2,” presumably talking about his breakout hit FXX series Dave. It didn’t take long, by the way, for FXX to renew Dave for a second season, considering it was the network’s most-watched comedy ever. Anyway, that seems to be what he was referring to, as the premiere date of the show’s second season has now been set for June 16.

Benny Blanco, who appeared in multiple episodes in the show’s first season, is set to return in Season 2. Also making appearances will be Lil Nas X, Doja Cat, CL, Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, Kyle Kuzma, J Balvin, Rae Sremmurd (Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Lil Yachty, and Kevin Hart, among others.

Press materials also tease some topics to be covered in the new episodes: “Dave knows he’s destined for rap superstardom — but at what cost? With the pressure mounting as he records his debut album, he has to decide if he’ll sacrifice friendships, love, and his own sense of self in order to make his dream come true. Simultaneously exasperating and inspiring to his friends, Dave vows to leave no stone unturned on his quest to become the next superstar.”

Lil Nas X Shares The Two Artists He Wants On A ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ Remix

Lil Nas X’s most recent single, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” has brought the singer plenty of attention. Between the track’s unorthodox music video and the sale of his “Satan Shoes,” the customized Nike Air Max 97s that were made in collaboration with MSCHF, the conversation around the song was nonstop for a week after it arrived.

All this proved to be beneficial as “Montero” would go on to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard singles chart. A couple of weeks removed from this achievement, the singer stopped by Capital Radio for an interview with Roman Kemp where he shared what he hopes can happen next with the song.

According to NME, Lil Nas was asked who his dream collaborators for a potential remix would be during the interview and he replied, “Rihanna and Bad Bunny.” Kemp suggests that this remix “may already be in the pipeline” due the singer’s response, but that’s not the case yet. “I wish!” Lil Nas said. “What if I ask for it? I don’t want to jinx it.”

After the fire that was “Montero” cooled down for a bit, Lil Nas X joined Dominic Fike to star in a music video for Brockhampton’s “Count On Me.” Days later, he released some meme-worthy satan-themed merchandise for the single that includes a shirt that reads “I [heart] Jesus and that one part in the ‘Montero’ music video by Lil Nas X when he gets nasty with the devil because it was a cool form of self-expression and art.” Another said, “I WATCHED THE “Montero” VIDEO BY LIL NAS X AND ALL I GOT WITH THIS LOUSY SHIRT AND NOW I’M ALSO GAY AND LOVE SATAN.”

Lil Nas X’s Father Defends The Rapper Against Allegations He Doesn’t Help His Struggling Mother

Lil Nas X faced some criticism recently after a video of his mother begging for money surfaced. The rapper has yet to publicly address the video, but now his father has come to his defense.

In an Instagram post, Nas’ father, Robert Stafford, wrote that the rapper does provide for his parents and that when it comes to his mother’s struggles, a lack of support from Nas isn’t part of the problem. He wrote, “Despite what people say @lilnasx is the greatest kid a parent can be BLESSED with. Although his mom is in a struggle with an addiction she’s STILL a QUEEN and he goes through great lengths to make sure we’re taking care of. Those who have family members and friends dealing with addiction understands that there ain’t enough money you can throw at this situation to make it right. I dont usually address personal issues publicly but felt like this need to be. Please join us in keeping her in your PRAYERS. And to those out there trying to create a false story you wont prosper. #controlthenarrative”

In an early 2020 interview, Nas said of his mother, “I never really talk about my mom. She’s an addict so we don’t have the closest relationship. Even trying to get her better — things didn’t quite work out. But there’s still love. The biggest surprise of becoming globally famous? On the outside, everybody loves you — but on the inside, everything [feels] the same.”

Lil Nas X Drops Some New Meme-Worthy, Satan-Themed ‘Montero’ Merch

Lil Nas X’s Hell-themed video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” has gotten under the skin of some folks, and perhaps nobody is taking more delight in that than Lil Nas X himself. He has long been a master troll and now he has taken it to the next level with some new “Montero” merch: A pair of hilarious text-heavy t-shirts.

One shirt reads, “I [heart] Jesus and that one part in the ‘Montero’ music video by Lil Nas X when he gets nasty with the devil because it was a cool form of self-expression and art.” The other reads, “I WATCHED THE “Montero” VIDEO BY LIL NAS X AND ALL I GOT WITH THIS LOUSY SHIRT AND NOW I’M ALSO GAY AND LOVE SATAN.”

Meanwhile, the rapper recently expressed concern that the song would be removed from streaming services for some reason he didn’t disclose, writing on Twitter that the song “may no longer be available tomorrow and there’s nothing i can really do about it.” Lil Nas X is clearly prone to making jokes on Twitter, but his label later backed up the claim. As of now, the song appears to still be available on streaming services.

Lil Nas X Explains ‘Coming Out’ To Some Kids Who Don’t Quite Get It

Lil Nas X has dominated the entertainment world for nearly three consecutive weeks. The streak began with the release of his latest single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” followed by its controversial video, and by the even more controversial “Satan Shoes,” a customized pair of Nike Air Max 97s in collaboration with MSCHF. Through it all Lil Nas stuck to his trolling ways. But as the drama dies down, he joined a recent episode of Arts & Raps to answer some questions from a couple of kids.

One kid asked him, “What does it mean to ‘come out of the closet?” Sticking to his humorous ways, Lil Nas X said that it “means you’re like, ‘Hey everybody, I’m this thing and you guys didn’t even know that but now you know.” Soon after, another child asked, “Why are people in the closet in the first place?” The singer replied, “Back to the thing I said earlier about [how] we think about what other people think about us. Once we tell somebody we’re this thing or that thing, their mind shifts completely. It doesn’t matter how close you are to them or whatever.”

This answer led into a quick “closet story” from one of the show’s young co-hosts, in which they talked about locking his cousin in a walk-in closet and flickering the lights on and off while screaming “666” and “Bloody Mary.” Lil Nas tried his best to hold back from laughing and said, “That’s exactly what happened to me. That’s what I meant when I said I was coming out of the closet.”

Brockhampton Lets Lil Nas X And Dominic Fike Embark On A Trippy Journey In Their Video For ‘Count On Me’

Brockhampton has promised two albums this year, and the first, Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine, arrived last week. Already there’s a new video for one of its tracks, and it finds the boy band teaming up with two of his musical peers, Lil Nas X and Dominic Fike. The two star in the video for “Count On Me,” the second single from the new album, and it begins with Lil Nas and Fike riding in a Jeep as they kick off while cracking jokes like, “Who the f*ck is Radiohead?” Things take an unexpected turn when the two singers end up in the midst of a seemingly drug-infused trip that ends with surprising make-out session.

Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine enlists ASAP Rocky, ASAP Ferg, Danny Brown, Jpegmafia, Charlie Wilson, and more for the thirteen-track effort. Prior to the project’s release, Kevin Abstract, the groups’ lead vocalist, delivered news about Brockhampton’s future in a tweet. “2 brockhampton albums in 2021 – these will be our last,” he wrote. Exactly when that second album will arrive remains to be seen, but it appears that after a long run that started back in 2016 with their debut mixtape, All-American Trash, Brockhampton will be no more come 2022.
