Lil Nas X Saves Himself With Some Tough Love In His First ‘Dreamboy’ Trailer

In the first trailer for his upcoming album, Dreamboy, Lil Nas X introduces his alter ego via a cheeky and borderline profane short story. In the trailer, Nas plays a castaway, floating in the middle of the ocean on a makeshift raft. A flash of light races across the sky, and Nas encounters the titular Dreamboy, a Power Rangers-esque being who introduces himself as a version of Lil Nas X who tells him, “I’m gonna help you save yourself. It’s time to remember who you are — who you really are.” However, Nas’ response is less than satisfactory, and Dreamboy shows himself a little tough love to get him started on the journey as the album’s first single, “Light Again,” kicks in.

Nas had previously teased the upcoming album on social media, writing, “I just want to release music, but expectations are just like… insane. Like, I can’t even have fun. I just want to f*ckin’ have fun with this sh*t. I don’t even give a f*ck about all the other sh*t. Of course, I want to, like, be No. 1 all the time, I want every song to go up, and I want you to go crazy. But it’s like, at the same time, I want to f*ckin’ have fun. I want to go and live life, I just want to make music.” Incidentally, he had already given glimpses of the Dreamboy uniform at the MTV VMAs.

As far as pressure goes, even he knows he has little to worry about; after queer culture’s resident megahater Azealia Banks said he “fell off,” he reminded her (and the world at large) “i could never make a hit song again and you would still never in ur bussy soap selling chicken sacrificing botched body hating ass miserable life reach a 10th of my success.”

A new era of Lil Nas X is upon us. In October, he declared he’d be dropping new music in November, and now he’s getting more specific.

Yesterday (November 10), he teased “Dreamboy” (the title of an album, perhaps?) saying that “phase 1” begins on November 11. This came after he announced a new song called “Light Again” would be released this week.

Nas shared a demo version of “Light Again” back in March and said at the time, “I don’t know how long I’m going to be able to have this sh*t up, or I don’t know what my CEO thinks right now, or whatever. […] Bro, these last couple years have been crazy, ’cause I’ve made so much music and I just want to release music. I just want to release music, but expectations are just like… insane. Like, I can’t even have fun. I just want to f*ckin’ have fun with this sh*t. I don’t even give a f*ck about all the other sh*t. Of course I want to, like, be No. 1 all the time, I want every song to go up, and I want you to go crazy. But it’s like, at the same time, I want to f*ckin’ have fun. I want to go and live life, I just want to make music. I don’t want to have to do crazy sh*t all the time. I want to make music, I want to f*ckin’ have fun, I want to live.”

Lil Nas X Just Obliterated Azealia Banks After She Claimed He ‘Fell Off So Hard’

Lil Nas X famously went No. 1 in 2018 with “Old Town Road,” and he followed that with two other chart-toppers: “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” and the Jack Harlow collaboration “Industry Baby,” both in 2021. Since then, he has laid relatively low as he works on a new album. The way Azealia Banks sees it, though, Nas has just fallen off.

On X (formerly Twitter), Banks wrote, “Lil Nas X really fell off so hard. Lmfao that little c*ntrag swore she was the tea. B*tch has NO BARS. Hahahahaahahahaa.” To that, Nas replied in a now-deleted tweet, “azealia i could never make a hit song again and you would still never in ur bussy soap selling chicken sacrificing botched body hating ass miserable life reach a 10th of my success. Love ur music btw.”

Later, Nas took to his Instagram Story to share a screenshot of him listening to Banks’ “Out Of Space,” and wrote, “sending u love azealia. wishing u nothing but guidance and clarity. i want u to chase ur dreams. get on ur sh*t. It’s the best time period in music for ur art to thrive. idc what u f*ck sh*t u say about me. I wanna see u win and shine your light. u can drop this internet bully act at any time. Ur fans love u. we love u.”

Banks continued the conversation this morning (October 28) by writing a lot on X. One of the tweets reads, “Where, are, your, bars… we are not going to use patronization to circumvent the topic here… the topic is that you cannot f*cking Rap son. @LilNasX. You’re a terrible lyricist with pedestrian musical sensibilities. We need to come to a consensus on where your talent is. Fine, we can agree that your a little piece of eye candy for these desperate old white homo’s in fashion… but where is your music b*tch?”

As of this post, Nas has not responded to Banks’ latest tweets.

Lil Nas X Starts The Countdown To His New Music With A Topless Dancing Video

Six months after sharing his Nasarati 2 mixtape on SoundCloud, Lil Nas X appears ready to begin his next era of new music. While he’s made appearances on other artists’ songs throughout the year, such as Camila Cabello’s “He Knows” and Kevin Abstract’s “Tennessee,” his only new solo music has come in the form of his Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F soundtrack contribution, “Here We Go!

But, thanks to an exuberant, topless dance video Nas posted on Twitter, we now know when he’s dropping some new music: sometime in November. In the video, Nas employs what sounds very much like a beat from Pharrell Williams (and what sounds like a Pharrell hook too!) to rap coquettishly about — what else? — stealing your man. The caption reads: “GUESS WHOS FINALLY DROPPING NEW MUSIC NEXT MONTH ?!!”

The throwback vibe of the instrumental is matched by what little wardrobe he rocks in the video — extremely baggy jean shorts and a fitted cap cocked to the side, very 106 & Park, very Rap City, very 2006 — while even the dances he does give hilariously tongue-in-cheek millennial vibes (the Harlem Shake?!? the REAL Harlem Shake?? Yaaasss). Judging from the snippet, it seems as though Lil Nas X might just be leaning more hip-hop than pop for his next project, despite the success of songs like “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” and “Old Town Road.” However, he appears to have sharpened those rap skills, so that could be a very good thing. You can check out the video here.

Lil Nas X And Omar Apollo Are Entangled In A Hilarious Love Triangle Over Jack Harlow, But There Is One Obvious Problem

After a brief hiatus from the public eye, Lil Nas X seemed to put his tearless trolling and continuous pot stirring to bed. Well, that was until today (September 21). Over on X (formerly Twitter), the “J Christ” musician couldn’t help but insert himself in to a one-sided flirty exchange between fellow recording artists.

Over on Instagram, Jack Harlow appeared to tease lyrics to an unreleased song. The poetic thirst trap caught the attention of Omar Apollo, who put a creative spin on the lines. But Lil Nas X took to X to quash the response, writing: “Omar Apollo count your f*cking days!”

The hilarious love triangle has one glaring issue, Jack Harlow identifies as a heterosexual whereas other Lil Nas X and Omar Apollo are queer. Plus as a former collaborator Lil Nas X knows this quite well. But apparently the joke was too good to resist. As Lil Nas X’s “He Knows” collaboration with Camila Cabello demonstrates he isn’t apposed to competing for the same man. But in this scenario it was just for a good laugh.

However, Harlow’s caption, which read: “U not the first girl / To tell me I should wear sunscreen every day / U not the first girl / To tell me who I am because of my birthday,” and Omar Apollo’s response (“Lemme be the first boy to tell you”) could mean they are working on some new music.

Neither Omar Apollo nor Jack Harlow have addressed Lil Nas X’s reaction.

Lil Nas X Lends His Talents To “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” Theme Song “HERE WE GO!”

Lil Nas X is one of the leaders in the music industry when it comes to making mega hits and accessible music. He pretty much figured out the formula on his debut track “Old Town Road”, as that was an immediate smash. From there, the Georgia singer and rapper has gone on to write plenty more incredibly catchy pop/pop rap records. You have “Panini”, “MONTERO”, “INDUSTRY BABY”, and “THATS WHAT I WANT” are just the tip of the iceberg. This is why Lil Nas X is the perfect choice for a movie theme song like “HERE WE GO!”.

This song is going to be played multiple times throughout the Netflix film Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. After 30 years and little optimism following the third entry, this Eddie Murphy-led franchise is returning for a fourth time. The first Beverly Hills Cop hit theaters in 1984, making it even more wild that this franchise is still breathing. Movie lovers can check out Axel F on July 3 on the streaming giant. While Eddie might be happy to be back, Lil Nas X might have been even more thrilled. According to ABC News, the hitmaker had a hard time realizing that he was doing this for such an iconic character and actor. “It was actually kind of insane. I was a bit, like, emotional”. Notch another W for Lil Nas!

Lil Nas X Unleashes New Track “HERE WE GO!” for Netflix’s ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’

Lil Nas X Unleashes New Track "HERE WE GO!" for Netflix's 'Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F'

Lil Nas X, also known as Detective Montero, has released his latest high-energy and confidently bold song, “HERE WE GO! (from the Netflix film Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F)” today via Columbia Records. Produced by Ojivolta and written by Montero Hill (Lil Nas X), Harold Faltermeyer, Raul Cubina, Mark Williams, and Jarrod Morgan, the song features the iconic “Axel F” theme from the original 1984 film.

The track, incorporating Harold Faltermeyer’s legendary composition, is featured multiple times throughout the new movie and plays over the end credits.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, starring Eddie Murphy, will be available globally on Netflix starting July 3. Detective Axel Foley (Murphy) returns to Beverly Hills in this latest installment. After his daughter’s life is threatened, she (Taylour Paige) and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old friends Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to uncover a conspiracy.

Lil Nas X’s ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’ Song ‘Here We Go!’ Includes A Nod To The Original Movie

Music plays an important role in the Beverly Hills Cop movies. The soundtrack for 1984’s Beverly Hills Cop hit No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 thanks to popular singles like “The Heat Is On” by Glenn Frey, “New Attitude” by Patti Labelle, and, of course, “Axel F.” That’s how cool Axel F. himself, Eddie Murphy, was in the 1980s — he could turn a instrumental track from a German composer into an honest-to-god hit. But Murphy is still plenty cool these days, and for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the fourth film in the franchise and first in 30 years, he enlisted Lil Nas X for “the best song of all time.”

On “Here We Go!,” Lil Nas X offers a warning: “Tell them boys you better hide, tell them lay low / Tell them play it safe ’cause we don’t play at all / Tell them boys you better move.” Later, he sings, “There’s a boy inside me and one day he’s gonna go / Somewhere that nobody’s ever ever been before.” The song was written by Lil Nas X, as well as Raul Cubina, Mark Williams, Jarrod Morgan, and Harold Faltermeyer, whose “Axel F” is used as a sample.

Lil Nas X Explained His Absence And Teased His New Single ‘Here We Go!’ As ‘The Best Song Of All Time’

Back in January, Lil Nas X teased the ultimate comeback with his single, “J Christ” — the video of which features him being crucified, them making a miraculous return. Many saw this as the rollout for the follow-up of his 2021 debut album, Montero. Nearly six months have passed since then, however, there has been no announcement of his sophomore album (though, Lil Nas X has dropped a few Soundcloud loosies and teased a mixtape called Naserati 2).

But it seems Lil Nas X has finally gotten his momentum back. Today (June 25), he took to social media to tease his new single, “Here We Go!”

In the post’s caption, Lil Nas X explained that he had been feeling hesitant about sharing his music.

“so excited to release the best song of all time this friday!,” he said, “also sorry I’ve been so scared with my art lately. I’m coming around to myself again. I will make you guys very proud.”

According to a report from Billboard, “Here We Go!” will sample Harold Faltermeyer’s “Axel F” and feature in the Netflix original movie Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, set to arrive on July 3.
