Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Video Skyrockets As LA Library Jokes About “Retiring” Owls

Kendrick Lamar struck gold with his “Not Like Us” music video, which continues to rack up millions of more views after its initial massive launch. For those curious, the visuals are currently sitting at around 24 and a half million views as of writing this article, and fans are still breaking it all down. But who know that K.Dot whacking an OVO owl piñata in the video, one of his many trolls against Drake, would even get the shushing librarians involved? Moreover, the Los Angeles Public Library recently joked on its TikTok page that they might retire their owl puppet mascot as a result.

Furthermore, this puppet was one that the library used for children’s programming, which makes the “Certified PDF-file” bar on “Not Like Us” sting even more. It’s all probably just a joke, as this owl was a part of the L.A. public library long before Kendrick Lamar and Drake started trading diss tracks. But as fans continue to theorize on what potential album hints there are in the music video, it broke records and captivated so much of the culture. It broke the record for the most views for a rap video within 24 hours this year, and we’re sure it stacks up to other viral visual treatments over the past few years, as well.

In addition to this, there were plenty of other details and jabs in the “Not Like Us” music video for fans to take note of. One of the main angles is that of Dave Free co-directing this with Kendrick Lamar, as the duo stands tall against Drake’s claims that there’s friction. Specifically, on tracks like “Family Matters” and “The Heart Part 6,” Drizzy claims that the Compton lyricist’s son with his partner is actually Free’s. Speaking of which…

“Not Like Us” Music Video Is Hitting Big

Whitney Alford and her kids with Kendrick Lamar also popped out to show Drake that perhaps his accusals of Kendrick are moot. Of course, we don’t really know what’s real or what’s not behind the scenes, but that’s true for all the attacks during the battle. We’ll see what other legs the “Not Like Us” video grows in its successful and astonishing path. What we’ll also see is whether or not more entities, particularly in Los Angeles, start looking at owls a little differently.

Miami Loves Rick Ross: Rapper Takes Home Key To The City, Library Of Congress Will Induct His Music

Rick Ross has lived countless lives throughout his 47 years on Earth so far, from working as a correctional officer to now being the proud owner of The Promise Land, his sprawling Georgia estate. When Rozay isn’t checking on his animals or flaunting his massive collection of cars, he also enjoys spending time in Miami. Always one to give back to the community, Ross has done a lot for the Floridian hotspot throughout his come-up, and they make sure he feels the love in return.

Earlier this week, the Richer Than I Ever Been artist was attending the MLK Scholarship breakfast event, where organizers took a moment to honour him. Besides congratulating Ross for all his career achievements, Miami officials also gave him a prestigious key to the city, which the multi-talent gratefully accepted. “A boss is one who gets the keys to @miamidadecounty by supporting his community,” one attendee wrote on Instagram while filming the heartwarming moment.

Amid all that excitement, sources said that Rozay’s music catalogue will have a special place in the Library of Congress. An induction ceremony is taking place for the MMG mogul to commemorate the major moment, and knowing him, he’s sure to go all out with his celebratory antics. Christina Mackey was on her man’s arm at the morning ceremony, but we’re curious to see what’s in the cards for her future now that she’s speaking out on social media.

Rick Ross is likely happy to receive such a massive honour from the city of Miami. Still, that doesn’t help the situation currently unfolding between his current girlfriend and his rumoured baby mama, Cierra Nichole. Read all the latest updates on that mess at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Jay-Z And His Mother Were Among The Honorees At Brooklyn Library Gala

Jay-Z has continued to represent New York and Brooklyn in particular as much as anyone. For all the love he’s shown his hometown over the years, it’s paying him back. Recently the Brooklynn Public Library hosted a Gala where both Jay and his mother Dr. Gloria Carter were honored. He was introduced by NYC Mayor Eric Adams and gave a speech that had fans both in person and online cracking up.

“I figured if these young men could speak on behalf of their dad, I could speak on behalf of my mom. Dr. Gloria had to see a doctor earlier. She’s gonna be very upset that I told y’all that. She gave me a very bad excuse and I couldn’t do it and lie to the good people of Brooklyn,” Jay-Z opened his speech to laughs in the room. That wasn’t even the only hilarious line he delivered about his mother. “I think she’s hungover. There’s no other way to put it. She wanted to be with you guys but this is what she would want me to say. Y’all not taping this, are you?” he followed it up. Check out some clips from his speech below.

Jay-Z Draws Laughs During Library Gala Speech

Over the weekend, Jay-Z hosted an event of his own. It was a high-roller James Bond-themed casino party with a stacked celebrity guest list. The party was a charity event seeking to raise money for criminal justice reform through the REFORM Alliance. They achieved a pretty lofty goal of raising $24 million to donate to the charity.

One name who wasn’t at the casino event was Beyonce. Jay-Z’s own wife missed the event but had a pretty good reason. She had just wrapped up the final show on her Renaissance tour. The massive tour concluded the night before the casino event so it’s hard to blame her for missing out. What do you think of Jay-Z’s speech while he and his mother were honored at the Brooklyn Public Library Gala? Let us know in the comment section below.

Brooklyn Public Library Decorated With Jay-Z Lyrics

Jay-Z’s influence is as wide-reaching as any other rapper. Now his reach has come to a new unexpected but very welcome place. Fans first noticed yesterday when the Brooklyn Public Library was undergoing some changes. Now according to HipHopDX, they’re finished covering the front of the library with lyrics from various classic Jay-Z songs like “Smile,” “Encore,” and “Justify My Thug.” This isn’t just for decoration though. The library has a forthcoming exhibit that will serve as a “personal shrine” to Jay himself in his hometowns library. The library will reportedly be closed today as they prep for the exhibit to begin tomorrow.

Jay-Z’s range also extends to the world of TV. Yesterday, when the Emmy nominations were announced his name was among them. He was nominated for an award for directing Rihanna’s Superbowl Halftime show earlier this year. The 2022 Superbowl halftime show took home an Emmy award during last year’s ceremony and Roc Nation has the chance to go back-to-back at this year’s show. Because both the writer’s and actors’ guilds are currently on strike it’s unclear when exactly the Emmys will happen but whenever they do Jay could add a new trophy to his decorated history of award wins.

Jay-Z is also making waves in the business world with Roc Nation Sports. The company has made two big moves this week to try and enter the world of international soccer. Firstly, they acquired a major soccer agency in Brazil that represents some of the country’s biggest players. Just a few days later they reached a deal with Italy’s Serie A soccer league. The deal aims to promote Italian soccer across North America through the lens of Roc Nation.

Jay-Z hasn’t released a new studio album since 2017’s confessional 4:44. Despite that his music continues to be celebrated consistently. Just last week it was the 10th anniversary of his album Magna Carta… Holy Grail which had fans reflecting on the project. What do you think of Jay-Z getting his own exhibit in his hometown Brooklyn Public Library? Let us know in the comment section below.
