Jay-Z and Beyonce’s love story began in the year 2000, when they sat next to one another on an airplane. They were each set to appear at MTV’s Spring Break festival, with Beyonce appearing alongside her Destiny’s Child bandmates. Jay-Z was fresh off his successful album cycle with The Dynasty: Roc La Familia which effectively launched the careers of producers like Just Blaze, The Neptunes, and Kanye West. Apparently, the pair hit it off immediately during their flight, though they would not become romantically involved until a year later.

2001: The Pair Begin Seeing Each Other Romantically

In 2001 the platinum-selling recording artists began seeing each other romantically, and even started collaborating on tracks with one another. Their first collaborative release was the track “03 Bonnie & Clyde” which arrived in 2002. The song references the iconic Tupac Shakur track “Me and My Girlfriend” from the posthumous album The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, and lifts its title from the Eminem song “97 Bonnie & Clyde” released 3 years earlier.

Despite their status as massive celebrities, Jay-Z and Beyonce married in a small, secret ceremony in April 2008. By this point, the pair had been romantically involved for over 7 years, stunned audiences on the VMA red carpet, and released Grammy Award-winning records together. Before the marriage, Beyonce publicly stated wishes to have her Destiny’s Child compatriots Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams as bridesmaids. However, the couple quietly picked up a marriage license near their New York residence, with no reception to the public’s knowledge.

Fans of the couple will surely recall the media circus that surrounded Jay-Z and Beyonce’s pregnancy announcement. In 2011, Beyonce took to the stage at the VMAs to reveal she was carrying her first daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. Blue Ivy, like her famous parents, has managed to steer clear of the spotlight when possible. However, she has become a fixture of pop culture fascination whenever the couple is mentioned.

Two years after they welcomed their first child, Beyonce’s sister Solange attacked Jay-Z in an elevator, leading to a now-infamous video of the assault. While 100 percent confirmation has never been provided, many believed the altercation likely occurred as a result of Jay’s infidelity, which fans later learned about on Beyoncé’s 2016 opus.

April 2016: The Public Learns Of Jay-Z’s Cheating

Despite their picture-perfect family aesthetic, the Carters have had their fair share of controversy. When Beyonce released her smash-hit album Lemonade in 2016, there were numerous references to her husband’s infidelity within the records’ lyrics. Jay-Z has since spoken at length about mental health issues that led to the indiscretion, stemming from trauma in his younger years.

Despite the cheating controversy, the pair continued to work on their relationship in private. In February of 2017, it seemed the pair were certain to remain together, as Beyonce announced the upcoming birth of their twins, Rumi and Sir. Jay-Z and Beyonce have both referred to their three children as an inspiration to continue working through any problems that arise. When Beyonce took the stage at the 65th Grammy awards, she specifically thanked her husband and their three children for providing her with the support and strength to continue pushing.

June 2017: Jay-Z Addresses His Infidelity And Growth On Wax

The same month that the twins were born, Jay-Z released his most recent solo album, 4:44. The album showed a great deal of artistic and personal growth, and serves as the first time the mogul vulnerably rapped about his experience nearly shattering his family with infidelity. Despite the ups and downs the Carters have faced, 4:44 serves as an inward-facing deep dive into the pair’s marriage, and serves as an explanation as to how they were able to overcome the scandal together.

June 2018: The Couple Release A Collab Album

After collaborating on three wonderful children, it was finally time for Jay-Z and Beyonce to collaborate on a full-length LP. Jay has referred to the album, Everything Is Love, as a couples’ therapy session, highlighting the peaks and valleys of their decade-long marriage. The album is certified gold by the RIAA, and has sold over 500,000 units.

2023 And Beyond

Luckily, the Carters were able to work through their issues and remain happily married to this day. Recent years have seen Jay-Z taking stock of his own mental health and putting his family first. While the New York-born rapper has not released an album since 2017’s 4:44, he has appeared in a number of guest verses in recent years proving that he still has the razor-sharp wit and cultural knowledge to produce hits. Beyonce has continued releasing records, including 2022’s Renaissance, which netted her enough Grammy wins to rank as the most celebrated artist of all time.

North West Is A Lemonade Stand Scammer, Kim Kardashian Says

Kim Kardashian says North West scams her friends with a lemonade stand. Speaking about her daughter during a new interview with GQ, Kardashian explained that she charged one of her friends $20 for a drink.

“She gets a huge pitcher and fills it, puts it in her wagon, and goes down to the corner,” she said. Kardashain explained: “She has a table and chairs and fans to keep herself cool. She makes signs. Britney Spears Dances To Beyonce’s “Lemonade” In A Bright Pink Bikini & Heels: Watch

When a woman makes a reference to Beyonce’s Lemonade album on social media, it’s likely because she’s feeling scorned in some way. The project famously focuses on Jay-Z’s infidelity against his wife. Megan Fox even made reference to it earlier this year when her relationship with Machine Gun Kelly appeared to be on the rocks. Now that that couple has seemingly recovered from their Super Bowl weekend blowout, it’s Britney Spears who’s making headlines with her video dancing to one of Bey’s hit songs in a barely-there bikini.

On Saturday (September 23) afternoon, the mother of two placed a mirror in front of her stripper pole so she could show off her toned body in her hot pink swimsuit. While Spears’ caption simply states “💅🏼💅🏼💅🏼,” the lyrics from her song of choice – “Don’t Hurt Yourself” featuring Jack White – are incredibly telling of her mood amid her divorce from Sam Asghari. “Who the f**k do you think I am?
You ain’t married to no average b**ch, boy,” Bey’s vocals ring out as the “3” singer rubs her hands up and down her inner thigh.

Britney Spears is in Her Lemonade Era

“You can watch my fat a** twist, boy / As I bounce to the next d**k, boy,” the Lemonade song continues. Just a few weeks ago, it was Kelis’ “Milkshake” that was soundtracking the former child star’s raunchy dancing video. For that, she wore a cheetah-print bodysuit and beige-coloured bra while showing off for her fans.

Britney Spears hasn’t been officially linked with any new men. However, the Pop Princess does have several suitors lining up for her, according to recent reports. Plies has made his love for the blonde beauty well known with his reaction videos to her dancing videos, but it seems Pete Davidson also has an interest in getting to know Spears better. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Megan Fox & Machine Gun Kelly Split Rumours Swirl, Actress Quotes Beyoncé’s “LEMONADE”

Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox are well known throughout Hollywood for their various talents, from modelling and starring in movies to making music with legends. Outside of their work, though, they’ve also constantly made headlines due to the sheer intensity of their romantic relationship. They announced their engagement to the world a little over a year ago. Unfortunately, recent rumours reveal that all future wedding plans may be off.

As PEOPLE reports, the mother of three’s fans felt upset on Sunday (February 12) when they saw she’s rid every trace of her beau from her Instagram. To make matters worse, she shared an upload quoting Beyoncé’s LEMONADE album. The project finds the vocalist markedly airing out her own feelings regarding Jay-Z’s infidelity. Specifically, Fox picked the emotional number “Pray You Catch Me” to express her emotions.

“You can taste the dishonesty / It’s all over your breath,” she wrote earlier today. The dump begins with the Transformers starlet looking at herself in the mirror while rocking an all-black ensemble. The back of her hair sits in a bun, and two long strands of black hair frame her face. After showing off her mirror selfies, Fox added a video of an envelope burning in a fire pit.

Of course, it wasn’t long before speculation about the situation began to brew in the comments. “Pete Davidson has entered the chat,” one user joked. Of course, the comedian has been spending time with Chase Sui Wonders following a brief fling with Emily Ratajkowski. “Deleted all photos of MGK and started following Eminem,” someone else pointed out after some sleuthing.

@meganfox/Instagram

Other potential theories speculate that Fox could be foreshadowing Rihanna’s Super Bowl Halftime show. “Rihanna [will likely] have a guest performer… I’m pretty sure it’s Eminem,” one user wrote. “Megan was in the ‘Love the Way You Lie’ music video. Her recent posts are DV related… It just so happens that the day of the Super Bowl she makes a post about lying and burning and following Eminem?” For now, it’s all just hearsay, but celebrities have been known to engage in similar antics in the past.

Aside from the possible demise of her romantic relationship, Fox has been busy pouring into the resurgence of her acting career. In 2022, she appeared in projects like Taurus, Big Gold Brick, and Good Mourning with MGK. She also will appear as Alana Hart in the upcoming Johnny & Clyde film.

For her latest endeavour, the Jennifer’s Body actress is preparing to star in Subservience opposite Michele Morrone. The film finds the 365 Days lead playing a single father who purchases a SIM to assist him with home and child care. As she gears up to begin filming, Fox debuted a new blonde bombshell hairstyle on Instagram that she’ll likely be sporting while in character. See for yourself here, and check back later for any updates on Megan’s relationship with MGK.

“MY BROTHER WAS FACING 75 YEARS .. HE TOLD ME TO TELL YALL HE‘LL BE HOME IN APRIL!!” French wrote. “SILVER SURFER Live from the can [wave emoji] Free the Count [100 emoji] ‘LEMONADE’ VIDEO .. Coke Boys 6 OUT NOW ON ALL PLATFORMS.”

Montana added Max B’s “Lemonade” video in the post. Before the song starts, Max B addresses French Montana.

“It’s Max Biggavel. French, what’s good, my n***a? I’m coming, baby. I’m on they ass,” he says before adding, “Boy looking good, I’m working, got the weight off of me, the weight is up. It’s ‘Lemonade,’ baby, it’s the video. Get ready for it. French Monbega, owww! I love you, beloved.”

Max B’s charges stem from a 2006 attempted robbery in which he allegedly plotted to rob two men alongside his stepbrother, Kelvin Leerdam, and ex-girlfriend, Gina Conway.

In September 2016, Max’s sentence was reduced to 20 years after he negotiated a plea bargain for aggravated manslaughter. It was further reduced in 2019 for an undisclosed reason.

Beyonce Celebrated The Fifth Anniversary Of ‘Lemonade’ With A Touching Post

Beyonc has accomplished a lot in her stories career, but one of her towering achievements is her 2016 album Lemonade, as well as its accompanying music film, which earned accolades as well. The 12-track effort highlighted the turmoil she experienced in her marriage with Jay-Z, and people are still talking about it on its fifth anniversary. Beyonce herself made sure to commemorate the album’s birthday with a touching post to Instagram.

“I’m grateful that this body of work has resonated so deeply with so many people,” Beyonce wrote in the caption, alongside images from the movie version of the album. “I’m so thankful for all the beautiful souls involved in making one of my favorite pieces of art. As I celebrate five years of LEMONADE, I encourage everyone to continue healing, loving, forgiving and uplifting.” She added, “I hope you find joy today.”

The anniversary comes just a month after she and Megan Thee Stallion became the first women to win the Best Rap Performance award at the Grammys. Her daughter Blue Ivy also became one of the youngest Grammy winners in history after taking home an award for Best Music Video, which she appeared in alongside Beyonce, Wizkid, and Saint Jhn.

Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’ Turns Five: Fun Facts You May Not Know

Few can forget where they were when Beyoncé’s Lemonade dropped on Saturday, April 23, 2016. The double feature — part pseudo-surprise album, part star-studded visual project — found the notoriously private superstar letting fans in on details of her marriage to husband Jay-Z. Throughout the 45-minute, 12-track LP, listeners and viewers were taken on a journey of grief, anger, acceptance and reconciliation across the musical lens of R&B, pop, trap, rock, and country. (During the visual project, these emotions are verbalized by prose from Somali poet Warsan Shire and spoken by Beyoncé.) Through both mediums, we gain insight into Queen Bey’s experience with infidelity, and the overarching experiences of Black women in America, which includes feelings of unworthiness, frustration, and shame. However, Lemonade ultimately highlights Black women’s astounding resilience against all odds.

Given the shocking death of iconic artist Prince just days before its release, many credit Beyoncé for carrying the torch of the multitudinous musical behemoths who came before her, while praising the album as a sonic triumph. While no one could have predicted the pain that came with losing yet another legendary act, the welcome celebration of life, love, and damn good music provided by Bey’s sixth project truly turned our lemons into lemonade.

In the five years since its release, Lemonade spawned countless dissections, podcasts, and even college courses regarding its legacy and alignment with the Black feminist movement. And those infidelity claims Beyoncé makes during Lemonade? Jay-Z confirms them in his Grammy-nominated project, 4:44, released a year later. In 2017, Lemonade was nominated for nine Grammy Awards, controversially winning only two. Nevertheless, its impact continues to reign, and the Grammys eventually caught up to her greatness; in 2021, Beyoncé became the singer with the most Grammy wins in history (regardless of gender).

In honor of the album’s fifth anniversary tomorrow, we’re dropping five facts about the album and visuals that you may not have known prior. Take a look below at some tidbits, and give Lemonade a stream or two in honor of its monumental birthday.

The Well-Used Samples

As mentioned above, Beyoncé showcases her ability to traverse genre throughout Lemonade, and various musical influences can also be found within its samples. The bouncy, emotional ‘Hold Up’ samples pop star Andy Williams’ “Can’t Get Used to Losing You” from 1962. The Jack White-assisted “Don’t Hurt Yourself” borrows from Led Zeppelin’s “When The Levee Breaks.” The shadowy, trap-tinged “6 Inch” is a nod to soul icon Isaac Hayes’ “Walk On By” and interpolates psych band Animal Collective’s “My Girls.” And most notably, Outkast’s “SpottieOttieDopaliscious” is used in “All Night.” This is the second time within Beyoncé’s discography that she’s used this particular sample — the first was 2014’s “Flawless Remix” featuring Nicki Minaj.

“Songs Become Tweets, Tweets Become Songs…”

”Hold Up, they don’t love you like I love you,” Bey sings in the chorus of “Hold Up.” But did you know that this line in particular reworks a lyric from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ 2004 song “Maps”? (“Wait, they don’t love you like I love you,” Karen O says in the original song.) Even more interesting, the reworked Beyoncé lyric was originally a tweet written by Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig in 2011.

Koenig, who wrote “Hold Up” along with Bey, Diplo, Emile Haynie, Father John Misty, MNEK, and MeLo-X, was paraphrasing the lyric from “Maps” when he wrote the tweet, which randomly popped into his head while recording. “I figured it was going to be a Vampire Weekend song but was easily convinced that it could be better/go to a new place as a Beyoncé song,” Koenig tweeted in 2016 after the release of Lemonade. “Songs become tweets, tweets become songs – it’s the way of the world.”

Getting In Formation In Coachella

Swae Lee of the rap duo Rae Sremmurd is credited as one of the co-writers on Lemonade’s first single “Formation,” which dropped out of thin air in February 2016. According to an interview with the song’s producer Mike Will Made It, Swae Lee came up with the chorus of “Formation” on the way to Coachella in 2014.

“So we’re in the middle of the desert,” Mike Will told The New Yorker in 2016. “And we’re just coming up — we just freestyle, you know? — and Swae Lee said, ‘O.K., ladies, now let’s get in formation.’ And we put it on the VoiceNote. Swae Lee’s got so many voice notes that he doesn’t even record, but I’m like, ‘Dog, we got to do that “get in formation” shit.’ That could be a hard song for the ladies. Some woman-empowerment shit.” The producer sent five or six songs to Beyoncé’s camp, including “Formation,” and during a party months later, she told him she liked that particular song.

“I told her what I was thinking about the woman empowerment, and she was like, ‘Yeah I kinda like that idea.’ And she just left it like that,” he continues. “[She] took this one little idea we came up with on the way to Coachella, put it in a pot, stirred it up, and came with this smash. She takes ideas and puts them with her own ideas, and makes this masterpiece. She’s all about collaborating. That’s what makes her Beyoncé. Being able to know what she wants.”

Generational Recipes

At the end of the Lemonade visual, Beyoncé appropriately shares a recipe for homemade lemonade.

“Take one pint of water, add half pound of sugar, the juice of eight lemons, the zest of half lemon. Pour the water from one jug, then to the other several times. Strain through a clean napkin.”

She adds prose regarding how her “alchemist” grandmother “spun gold out of this hard life” and “found healing where it did not live,” which of course just sounds like beautiful poetry. But this is the real recipe for homemade lemonade from her grandmother, Agnéz Deréon, that’s been shared through her family across generations. In 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the recipe began to go viral on social media. According to Spoon University’s taste test, “The zest gives the lemonade flavor a uniquely tart taste, which is somehow also very sweet at the same time from the half pound of sugar.”

Grammy History, Because…Of Course

After the release of Lemonade, Beyoncé garnered nine Grammy Award nominations in 2017, including Album, Song, and Record Of The Year. According to an interview with The Recording Academy’s Head of Awards Bill Freimuth, Bey made history with these nominations as the first artist to ever be nominated across four distinct genres in one year. “Hold Up” was up for Best Pop Solo Performance, “Don’t Hurt Yourself” was nominated for Best Rock Performance, “Freedom” was recognized in the Best Rap/Sung Performance category, and Lemonade itself won Best Urban Contemporary Album.

“You’ve had other artists in the past, say Michael Jackson maybe, who have been nominated in that many different fields, but not in the same year and on the same album,” Freimuth said. “This is a first timer for us and personally I think it’s appropriate and pretty cool.”

According to the Associated Press, Beyoncé submitted her country track “Daddy Lessons” for consideration in a country music category. However, the song was reportedly rejected by The Academy’s country music committee. In the same interview with Freimuth, he says he was unsure if “Daddy Lessons” was considered for a country music Grammy, “But if it had, evidently the committee said it didn’t belong there.” Nevertheless, country artists like Blake Shelton and Dierks Bentley praised the song against detractors, and an official remix of the song with The Chicks was performed at the 2016 CMAs.
