Latto, Like The Rest Of Us, Wants To Live Like Rihanna And Doesn’t ‘See Myself Doing Music Forever’

Latto is the cover star for the Cosmopolitan “Skin Issue,” but she only agreed to pose nude after confirming it would be “tastefully done.” She was just as thoughtful in her answers for the accompanying interview, including her goals beyond her chart-smashing music career.

“I want to get in my acting bag, because I see myself going out like Rihanna,” Latto told writer Julee Wilson. “I don’t see myself doing music forever. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I’ve been doing it for so long already. Sometimes you just want more. I just did my first little acting gig the other day and I fell in love with that. I like more serious roles.”

Cosmo noted that Latto will be a guest star at some point during the upcoming sixth and final season of Grown-ish, premiering next Wednesday, June 28, on Freeform.

Earlier in the interview, Latto explained why she keeps her boyfriend’s identity private and was asked if she wants children someday, which led to another Rihanna reference.

“I want to be a mom so bad. Let me tell you, I think moms are superheroes. Man, I literally idolize motherhood. Like, with Mother’s Day, I get all my friends that have kids, my grandmas, my aunties, cousins, anyone who’s a mom around me, I send them flowers and gifts. I don’t play,” she said. “I send my assistant to Chanel to get, like, 10 bags for everybody I know. I’m obsessed. My TikTok algorithm is all moms talking about their experiences and packing like, ‘Get ready with me.’ Moms cleaning up after their kids. It’s so weird.”

Latto continued, “I’m not going to feel like I made it for real until I have my kids, I’m married, I just got my house out in the country, and I’m just ducked off with my little family.”

After Wilson quipped that “Rihanna’s got everybody out here having baby fever,” Latto added, “Yes. That’s why I love RiRi down. Cardi did it too. And Yung Miami. I feel like they kind of supersede the stigma that it’s over for women when you have a baby — like your career is over. They give me inspiration for real. They make me feel like I can do it too one day when the time is right, you feel me?”

Rihanna welcomed her first child, a son, with ASAP Rocky in May 2022. The polymath power couple are expecting their second child, as Rihanna revealed she was pregnant during her Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show performance in February.

Latto Got Naked For A New Photoshoot But Made Sure That, Like Her Music, It Was ‘Explicit But Tastefully Done’

Latto is the subject of a recent Cosmopolitan profile, and during the interview, she discussed the thought process behind getting naked for the cover photo shoot.

She explained, “My label manager hit me and asked, ‘Are you open to doing this?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I’m open. It just has to be tastefully done.’ That’s why during the shoot, my eyes are glued to the monitor. My lyrics are vulgar and explicit but tastefully done, at least in my opinion. I wanted the pictures to be as well. Not just boom-bam right in your face, but more like a tease. Like you’re imagining me being fully naked and not really seeing it for real. I like the fantasy aspect to it. I felt like the prettiest girl in the world, like that’s the best I’ve ever looked.”

Of the monitor Latto mentioned, the publication noted, “We placed a screen within eyeshot for Latto so she could see exactly what the photographer was capturing.”

Latto continued, “I’m young right now. I don’t have real responsibilities as far as kids and a husband. I feel like it’s the right time to embrace how my body looks — and before I have kids and wrinkle up, I’m showing it off while I can, boo. Everyone always asks what my parents think about the sexy clothes I wear. My mama is here for it. She loves it! She’s like, ‘Girl, do it now!’ She had me at 15 years old and wishes that she could have flaunted her body before kids. And then she turned around and had my sister at 19. She’s my biggest advocate.”

Latto On Making Music: “I See Myself Going Out Like Rihanna”

Latto is only 24 years old, but she’s already thinking about the end of her career. The rapper has expressed her vision for the future, and it extends beyond music. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, she revealed her desire to explore acting. Additionally, she shared her admiration for Rihanna’s career trajectory. Latto explained that she sees herself transitioning into acting rather than pursuing music indefinitely. She has already been involved in music for a significant period. As such, she believes it’s natural to crave more and seek new experiences. Recently, she had her first acting opportunity, which she thoroughly enjoyed. It seems that she gravitates towards more serious roles.

Latto has been announced as a guest star for Season 6 of the popular TV show Grown-ish. She will be joining a star-studded lineup that includes Lil Yachty, Anderson .Paak, and NLE Choppa. In the show, she will portray a character named Sloane, a wine representative. Additionally, Kelly Rowland will play a role as a professor overseeing the psychology department. Alongside her flourishing career, Latto achieved a significant milestone by gracing the cover of Cosmopolitan.

Latto’s Viewpoint On Nudity In Photo Shoots

In the planning process for Latto’s cover shoot, her label manager approached her with the idea of posing nude. While she did agree, the rapper emphasized the importance of tasteful execution. During the shoot, she closely monitored the process and aimed for an element of fantasy and allure rather than explicitness. “Not just boom-bam right in your face but more like a tease. Like you’re imagining me being fully naked and not really seeing it for real,” Latto said. “I like the fantasy aspect to it.”

Latto says the experience of shooting for Cosmo made her feel incredibly beautiful. She also said she appreciates the opportunity to embrace her body while she is young. “I’m young right now. I don’t have real responsibilities as far as kids and a husband,” Latto explained. “I feel like it’s the right time to embrace how my body looks—and before I have kids and wrinkle up, I’m showing it off while I can, boo.” What do you think of Latto’s career plans? Latto Revealed The Advice Cardi B DMed Her About Internet Trolls

While some of their fans can’t help but pit the current crop of women in rap against each other (seriously guys, just watch sports. It’s the WNBA season! There are legit winners and losers every game!), many female rappers are more than content to show each other support and solidarity as they face sexism in the music industry and its audience. In a new interview with Cosmopolitan, Latto described just what forms that support can take.

“I get messages in my DMs all the time,” she revealed. “[Her rapper friends Cardi B and Yung Miami] telling me to stop responding to trolls, inviting me to birthday parties, album release parties. And a lot of DMs from Cardi especially like, ‘Stay focused. Don’t let no one trick you off your spot. I’ve been there before.’ And just giving me insight from stuff that they’ve already seen and done.”

Unfortunately, having this sort of outlook hasn’t stopped some fans from speculating that she’s got beef with one rapper or another — especially after she called out Nicki Minaj for allegedly being a bully who tries to stop other women from flourishing. When she mentioned Coi Leray in a line from her new song “Put It On Da Floor,” some fans tried to assert that they got into a physical altercation, even after their misunderstanding was resolved. And some fans can’t help comparing Latto to Ice Spice, who recently collaborated with Nicki.

French Montana Had To Mediate His Kids’ Hilarious Debate Over Ice Spice And Latto

If you’re a parent, odds are you’ve been unexpectedly forced to play referee to your kids’ debates and apparently, that doesn’t change if you’re a famous rapper. French Montana was recently pulled into mediating one of Twitter’s hottest discourses at dinner with his sons after one of his friends who was with them insisted “Latto is better than Ice Spice.” French, who was just trying to get a cute video congratulating his recently graduated son, was surprised into having to pick a side — and promptly sidestepped a potentially sticky situation (he might want to collaborate with either or both one day, after all).

“Nah, never,” he says in the video. “They both equal.” The boys then playfully flirted with the rappers on camera, joking, “Hit my phone!” and “Get Latto to hit me up!”

The two rappers have been pitted against each other frequently on Twitter, mainly as a result of Latto’s recent disagreement with Nicki Minaj. When Nicki collaborated with Ice Spice on her remix of “Princess Diana,” the Barbz took it as an opportunity to use Ice Spice as a proxy in their everlasting intifada against anyone who would dare speak ill of their Queen. When Latto apparently lashed out at Nicki in her song “Put In On Da Floor,” they took pains to stretch as many of those lyrics as they could to encompass Ice Spice as well. (For what it’s worth, Ice Spice is a bit of a lightning rod for comparison these days in general.)

However, neither rapper has ever displayed any public indication of a disagreement, and while the Barbz love to compare them, they’re both in completely separate portions of their respective careers (Ice Spice has yet to drop her debut album; Latto is promoting album number three). The obvious solution is for everybody involved to join in on Coi Leray’s idea of a “Ladies’ Night” remake, showing solidarity instead of fanning the flames. It’s unlikely, but hey, stranger things have happened.

LSU’s Flau’jae Johnson Wanted To Be In Latto And Cardi B’s ‘Put It On Da Floor Again’ Video With Her Teammate Angel Reese

Flau’jae Johnson recently opened up to Uproxx about winning LSU’s first NCAA Division I basketball championship this April and celebrating that win while her song, “Big 4,” filled the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

“The fact that I’m being recognized for my music as well as my basketball at the highest level, that was a breathtaking moment for me,” Johnson said. “Both of my lives crossed over how I wanted it to. It was an amazing feeling. It felt like a movie.”

Lil Wayne was among those impressed by Johnson. NLE Choppa featured Johnson and her LSU teammate Angel Reese in his star-studded “Champions” video just weeks ago. But Latto and Cardi B’s “Put It On Da Floor Again” video is the one that got away.

Johnson joined The Baller Alert Show for its June 10 episode and was asked around the 28-minute mark why she wasn’t in the video alongside Reese.

“Angel, she loves doing videos,” Johnson said. “She’s a cute girl. You know what I’m saying? Like, that’s her thing. … So, Latto, she hit me about it, like, the day before.”

Johnson explained that she told Latto she was in Los Angeles but could still “make it happen,” leading to confusion when the video came out without her involvement.

“Her people never hit my people,” she continued. “But I had seen — she had asked Angel like a week before. You feel me? I was like, OK, maybe she really ain’t want me in the video, for real, but she had to ask me because we had kind of a relationship before, and she put Angel in it. But I was like, I didn’t really care ’cause Angel was in it, and that was a big moment for women’s basketball.”

Still, Johnson can’t help but wonder “why wouldn’t you put me in it? It just makes sense.”
