Snoop Dogg Commends Kendrick Lamar For Promoting Gang Unity In L.A. After Drake Beef

Snoop Dogg is one of Kendrick Lamar’s biggest West Coast elders in the rap game, and he couldn’t be prouder of his “Institutionalized” collaborator. Moreover, during a recent interview with Complex alongside Dr. Dre, he spoke on K.Dot’s recent “The Pop Out” event (which Dre was a special guest performer at) and how it promoted the unity of all of Los Angeles’ gangs. Specifically, Tha Doggfather responded to Vince Staples’ recent comments about how this peace process was in effect well before this Juneteenth show, which took place after Kendrick’s Drake beef. Still, Snoop explained how the former TDE lyricist publicized this solidarity even further.

“What Vince is saying is that a lot of neighborhoods have been uniting for a long time behind closed doors,” Snoop Dogg remarked. “But what Kendrick did was, he united the whole city, based off him being a king. Taking this violent situation, which is a rap beef, and creating peace and giving the homies an opportunity to come on stage, to engage in his video, to be a part of his movement, and to also move like he moves.

Bro, [Drake] immediately had… He had ‘God’s Plan’ already. The n***a had… What else, what else, what else? He had ‘SICKO MODE,’ right, that came out that year. ‘Mob Ties,’ yeah, he had so many hits. The latest slightly patronizing take about what his next moves should be comes from Charlamagne Tha God, who discussed his latest career updates on the Brilliant Idiots podcast. These include a Lil Yachty collab that Kai Cenat leaked on his livestream, as well as presumably the 6ix God’s 100 GIGS drop of new songs and BTS material. Despite all the attention on him right now, the Breakfast Club host thinks that he should hang it up for a little bit and then come back.

“Listen, to your point, when the dust settles, it’s not gon’ really be anything,” Charlamagne Tha God told Andrew Schulz, possibly making a specific reference to the Kendrick Lamar beef. “But I think that Drake should go away for, like, a year. And let nostalgia bring him back. Or maybe six months, just take a break.” While there are plenty of reasons as to why the Toronto superstar might want to take a break right now, many see it as a direct result of his perceived loss in the K.Dot battle.

As such, it seems like we just can’t let him go for whatever reason. There’s something to be said about how paradoxical these discussions can be. For example, folks have flip-flopped a lot on whether or not Drizzy is on the clock to respond to a diss, doing too much with his subsequent releases, not doing enough to prove himself… You get the idea.

Regardless of what Charlamagne Tha God thinks, Drake’s recent moves suggest that he isn’t going away anytime soon. DJ Akademiks Claims Drake Took 20 OVO Affiliates To Michael Rubin’s White Party

Michael Rubin’s recent Breakfast Club interview was controversial for many reasons, but one particularly interesting part of the conversation was when he talked about Drake’s attendance at his Fourth of July White Party this year. Moreover, this led DJ Akademiks to claim that the OVO mogul took 20 of his close associates, including his bodyguard Chubbs, to the event, and was the only one allowed to do so as everyone else had a tight one-guest limit. Not only that, but Ak claims that The Boy did so because he wanted to determine the temperature of his industry peers, since this bash went down about two months after the Kendrick Lamar battle ended.

Furthermore, Michael Rubin admitted that he banned Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” at his White Party due to Drake’s attendance. “It was true,” he said of these rumors about the diss track’s blacklisted status. “I just didn’t think it was appropriate, so I said, ‘Hey, let’s not play anyone’s music that’s feuding with anyone here.’ That was a me decision. The beef that refused to die just keeps on making Kendrick Lamar and Drake more money, and they don’t even have to outright reference it for that narrative to create all the more interest in their music. For example, Drizzy’s new 100 GIGS drop recently placed him over Kendrick in Spotify monthly listening numbers, which K.Dot had dethroned him for due to the streaming success of cuts like “Euphoria,” “Like That”… and, of course, “Not Like Us.” The Toronto superstar has a massive fanbase that was going to eat his stuff up either way, but the battle has more casual fans as well as ardent haters hanging onto every word more so than usual.

As for Kendrick Lamar, his numbers have always been great, but they’ve never been as much of a direct and disrespectful challenge until the aforementioned West Coast banger dropped. Now, a song that makes its PDF-file allegations crystal clear and clowns Drake for being a conniving colonizer that should go fetch Gatorade for the real players is making almost as many numbers as either artist’s most accessible and widely palatable material. In fact, “Not Like Us” recently surpassed Tupac’s “Hit ‘Em Up” as the most streamed diss track of all time; while only the Spotify numbers show up here, they most likely indicate activity across all major platforms.

It’s also ironic but oddly fitting that “Not Like Us” surpassed a Tupac classic as the most streamed diss track of all time. After all, ‘Pac played a more integral role in this battle than many might have expected at its onset thanks to A.I. vocal manipulations, lyrical references, and arguments over The Boy’s purchase of his ring.

Meanwhile, there are still some people out there who were saddened by this whole battle, including the legendary André 3000. Maybe they would rather live in a world in which cuts like “Tuscan Leather” or “The Art Of Peer Pressure” get the frenzied streaming love that “Push Ups” and “Not Like Us” have. But we can’t deny the sheer quality of these battle tracks, and neither can a lot of fans out there. So whether you’re a Drake fan who refused to like the song to begin with or a Kendrick Lamar fan who’s already tired of it… it looks like you’re going to have to step this way and then step that way for a while longer.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Just Got Its First Awards Nomination

One of the funniest lines in the whole Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef comes on The Boy’s “Family Matters”: “Kendrick just opened his mouth, someone go hand him a Grammy right now.” Not only is it a comically dismissive assessment making fun of K.Dot glazers in the white-dominated industry, but it’s also pretty accurate at Drizzy’s expense. Because it seems like the most fun, mocking, disparaging, and lightly disrespectful track in the whole battle, “Not Like Us,” is not just a hit with fans and critics, but with awards shows. Moreover, the Mustard-produced banger has just received its first award nomination: Song of the Year at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.

While it’s no golden gramophone, it’s still a pretty big and visible award that speaks to what Drake meant to say about Kendrick Lamar. Disses aside, the song and music video is undeniably worthy of high praise from pretty much every corner under the sun. But there are a lot of fans out there that find this nomination (and presumably more to come) pretty odd. On one hand, it’s a great song and visual treatment, but on the other, do we really want big corporations and the larger music industry to chip into a rap beef that should really just be a one-on-one cultural affair?

OVO Stans will use this and other “Not Like Us” nominations to call Drake a prophet and clown Kendrick Lamar even further, whereas pgLang fans will rejoice in how embarrassing of a look this is for Aubrey Graham in the industry. But at the end of the day, a huge chunk of both fanbases couldn’t care less about awards, and would rather have ceremonies ignore their material instead of trying to pick a side, remove their context, or give praise to both.

We’ll see how this discourse evolves, and whether or not Kendrick Lamar or Drake actually show up to the event. We don’t have a clear idea of what all the nominations for this year’s VMAs look like, so keep an eye out for that in the coming days. In any case, the ceremony goes down on September 10. Will the Compton lyricist pop out, is this just an obligatory nomination, or does he really not care at all as long as the culture knows his victory?

A clip from a sit-down between Kendrick Lamar’s engineer and Engine Ears Live is stirring up conversation. During their chat, Nicolas de Porcel retold the “amazing” procedure behind each Drake diss record during their battle. “It was a little crazy. I got a call, and it was like, ‘Stay on call, you’re gonna be working’”, Porcel began. “I would get the song and like six minutes would elapse and they’d be like, ‘How we looking?’. It was very high pressure. As Dot was releasing these records, it was like, I was turning in the masters… It would drop like 12 minutes later. It was amazing”.

Any sort of extra details about this beef are going to cause even more debate, and that’s exactly what is going on in the Xspace. According to XXL, fans are very split on whether or not de Porcel is telling the truth. Expectedly, there are a lot of skeptics out there, which is quite understandable. Many non-believers were pointing out how there is no way every fine detail was being ironed out. “You guys smoking the same crack Kendrick was in Power. Complete bs. If the beat is already mixed, a single vocal track on a beat can be mixed in minutes. Especially if the studio has already mixed a lot of your albums, so they probably have a preset available to cut the time to a fraction.

Moreover, one aspect of the battle that people would love to learn more about is the actual recording process behind these songs, as they came out so quick and with a lot of big names attached in the studio. Thanks to engineer Nicolas de Parcel, K.Dot’s mastering engineer for his disses, we now have more of an idea of how it all went down. He spoke to EngineEars (founded by Kendrick collaborator MixedByAli) and revealed how simultaneously intense but also exciting these sessions were.

So the resume certainly speaks for itself, but this historic moment is probably something that no studio wizard would soon forget even with such a lauded career under their belt.

It is littered with references to previous Drake jabs, showing how much care went into putting this all together. What is wild is that new connections are still being made all this time later.

According to HipHopDX, a Twitter thread from the acclaimed Dissect Podcast is going viral for discovering a deep tie to actress and former model, Milla Jovovich. You’re probably at a total loss just like we were when we first saw this but check this out. Fair warning though, this is currently speculation and is not yet confirmed. But the shot where Kendrick is sitting on the prison bed is a supposed recreation of a 1997 photo with Milla Jovovich. However, it goes much further than that. When the Resident Evil movie star was younger, she was entangled in some underage debacles.

Now, just a couple of days later, Lupe hopped back on the social media platform to clear up some of the key takeaways with Joe Budden. The rapper turned podcaster commended the Chicago native for just saying what he feels about the entire Kendrick versus Drake beef. However, Lupe revealed something quite interesting.

He claims that post “Champagne Moments”, the Rick Ross diss aimed at Drake, he has not listened to any of the diss records.
