Eminem Delivered A Surprise Endorsement Speech Of Kamala Harris During Her Recent Rally In Detroit

Eminem has come a long way since his rebellious start in rap nearly thirty years ago. The “Somebody Save Me” rapper still lyrically packs a punch, but the soon-to-be grandfather also uses his sharp pen for civic engagement.

Today (October 22), Eminem made a surprise appearance at Vice President Kamala Harris’ rally. The event geared to drum up support for her presidential campaign also served as the ideal platform for Eminem to vocalize his support for Harris. In a semi-surprise speech (viewable here), Eminem officially shared his endorsement of the presidential hopeful.

“Detroit, What up doe,” he exclaimed. “So look, I wrote down a few things I wanted to say. I’m here tonight for a couple of important reasons. As most of you know, the city of Detroit and the whole state of Michigan mean a lot to me. And going into this election, the spotlight is on us more than ever, and I think it’s important to use your voice, so I’m encouraging everybody to get out and vote, please.”

He continued by saying: “I also think that people shouldn’t be afraid to express their opinions, and I don’t think anyone wants an America where people are worried about retribution, or what people will do if you make your opinion known. I think Vice President Harris supports a future for this country where these freedoms and many others will be protected and upheld. And here to tell you much more about that, President Barack Obama.”

After passing things off to Obama, the former president paid tribute to the hometown hero by rapping his song, “Lose Yourself.”

Eminem’s endorsement of the Harris-Walz ticket isn’t shocking to supporters. Back in 2020, the rapper endorsed President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris. He also authorized the use of “Lose Yourself” for their campaign.

This isn’t the only musician to endorse Harris. Billie Eilish, Finneas, Taylor Swift, Quavo, and Megan Thee Stallion have also thrown their support behind the presidential hopeful.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ recent rallies have been filled with celebrity cameos and musical performances. Today (October 22), the presidential hopeful’s event in Detroit, Michigan was a bit different.

Instead of centering a hometown hero’s endorsement, a special speaker paid homage to them in a rather cool way. During his time at the podium, former president Barack Obama performed a snippet of Eminem’s song “Lose Yourself” (viewable here).

“His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy / There’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti / He’s nervous, but on the surface, he looks calm and ready / To drop bombs,” rapped Obama.

The authenticity of Obama’s playlist curation has been questioned in the past. But his admiration for Eminem’s beloved track long since documented.

Albeit flattering, Eminem has reportedly sent other politicians (Vivek Ramaswamy) cease and desist letter in the past for referencing his music in the past. However, his hatred for former president Donald Trump may tilt the scales in Obama’s favor. Plus, Eminem gave a thumbs up to Obama’s dramatic reading of the song’s lyrics suggests this time wouldn’t be any different.

On the other hand, another notable Detroit musician, Trick Trick (real name Christian Anthony Mathis), endorsed Trump.

So, fans can sort of consider the Motor City to be balanced.

Barack Obama Raps “Lose Yourself” At Detroit Rally After Eminem Introduction

Barack Obama has relied on hip hop music throughout his political career. His playlists have become an annual tradition, and he has friendships with high profile artists like Beyonce and JAY-Z. It made all the sense in the world that Eminem, Detroit’s very own rap icon, would introduce Obama during the Harris rally on October 22. The two men have voiced admiration for one another in the past, and Obama paid the vote of confidence forward by performing a segment from one of Eminem’s biggest hits.

Eminem’s opening statement made it clear that he supported Kamala Harris for President. “I think Vice President Harris supports a future for this country,” he noted. “Where these freedoms will be protected and upheld.” He then passed the reigns over to Barack Obama, who walked out to Eminem’s classic hit “Lose Yourself.” The former President continued to heap praise on Harris, but he decided to spice it up by dropping a few lyrics. “Our palms are sweaty,” he yelled. “Knees weak, arms are heavy…” The crowd perked up at the recognition of the “Lose Yourself” verse, and joined in.

Barack Obama Has Praised The Eminem Song For Years

Barack Obama’s love for this song has been well-documented. He talked about “Lose Yourself” during the promotional rollout for his 2020 memoir A Promised Land. He pointed to Eminem’s Oscar winning hit and JAY-Z’s “My 1st Song” as music that helped him through difficult times in his presidency during an IG interview. “When I needed some inspiration on the presidential campaign I often turned to music,” he noted. “It was rap that got my head in the right place.” He described both songs as inspirational. Eminem Shady co-signed the Obama shoutout and posted interview on his IG Story.

Barack Obama has remained steadfast in channeling his inner-Eminem. In 2016, footage surfaced of the former President gearing up to give a speech at the Democratic National Convention. He nodded intently to the song in the minutes leading up to his speech. Not everybody was thrilled with Eminem’s decision to co-sign Obama and Harris, however. Elon Musk, noted Donald Trump supporter, tweeted a withering insult about Em before the campaign rally got underway. He accused the Detroit rapper of being aligned with Diddy and being a “party participant.”

Elon Musk Dubs Eminem A “Diddy Party Participant” In Scathing Tweet

Eminem’s politics were on full display October 22. The rapper took the stage during Kamala Harris’ campaign rally in Detroit. He not only voiced support for Harris, but he introduced former President Barack Obama as well. The introduction plans were revealed shortly before the campaign rally took place, and this did not sit well with Elon Musk, evidently. The Twitter owner decided to take aim at Eminem by making a very bold claim about the rapper.

Elon Musk did not imply that Eminem was a close associate of Diddy, or attended Diddy’s “freak off” parties. He flat out stated out. He commented on a screenshot of the TMZ article confirming Eminem’s plans, and wrote: “Another Diddy party participant.” The comment did very little, however, since there’s absolutely nothing to link Eminem to Diddy or the mogul’s alleged crimes. In fact, Em has been one of Diddy’s most vocal critics for decades. The rapper has dissed the Bad Boy founder several times on record. He did so most famously on the 2018 MGK diss “Killshot.” “Kells, the day you put out a hit is the day Diddy admits that he put the hit out that got Pac killed,” Eminem rapped.

Eminem Has Repeatedly Dissed Diddy Over The Years

There are no major public examples of Eminem and Diddy being close. In fact, one of Eminem’s closest friends, 50 Cent, has been the loudest Diddy critic dating back to the 2000s. Em and 50 continue to be close friends, and the latter even commented on Em’s newfound status as a grandfather. Elon Musk, on the other hand, has a more complicated history with Diddy. The Tesla titan has gone on record to state that he is close friends with Diddy. “I don’t know if you know this, but Puff is an investor in Twitter,” Musk was quoted as saying in the book Character Limit. “You know, he’s a good friend of mine. We text a lot.”

Elon Musk’s Twitter diss is far cry from his Eminem fandom in 2022. The controversial figure quoted Em when he was trying to take back control of his Twitter account from the SEC. Musk’s court filings alluded to Eminem’s “Without Me” song, and paraphrased it to read: “The [SEC] won’t let me be or let me be me so let me see…” Times have obviously changed.

Eminem Will Introduce Barack Obama At Kamala Harris’ Rally In Detroit

Eminem was already confirmed to appear at Kamala Harris’ campaign rally on October 22. The rapper announced that he would be attending, given that the rally will take place in his native Detroit. The part that was left out, however, was what Eminem would be doing. While it was speculated that Slim would perform or give a speech, TMZ revealed that he actually has a bigger responsibility. Eminem has been tasked with introducing former President Barack Obama and welcoming him to the stage.

The outlet stated that Eminem will introduce Obama and make a few comments about the election in totality. He will, however, perform. The rapper is in the midst of a tour, and CNN claims that he’s merely been tapped to speak. This is a still a pretty huge get for Harris. Eminem remains the best selling rapper of all time, and was the second best-selling male artist of the 2020s. He last album, The Death of Slim Shady, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. It was the eleventh time he did so, which put him ahead of Michael Jackson all time.

Eminem Showed Love To Barack Obama Back In 2020

Eminem’s endorsement of Kamala Harris makes sense, given his political history. The rapper granted permission for the song “Lose Yourself” to be used in a Biden-Harris ad from 2020. The rapper was also cordial to Obama when the former President did a dramatic reading of the song to promote his memoir A Promised Land. Obama praised “Lose Yourself” as an song “about defying the odds and putting it all on the line.” Eminem responded to the shout out by posting a screenshot of Obama’s video on his IG Story with the praying hands emoji.

Eminem’s support for the Democratic party is outdone only by his hatred for Donald Trump. The rapper has spent over a decade dissing the former President in song and in interviews. When asked about how he felt about Trump in 2017, he told New York Magazine he felt a responsibility to criticize the politician whenever he could. “I’m trying to get a message out there about him,” he explained. “I want our country to be great too, I want it to be the best it can be, but it’s not going to be that with him in charge.”

During a rally at Latrobe’s Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Pennsylvania on October 19, former President Donald Trump referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as a “s— vice president.” The remark came as Trump intensified his attacks on political opponents just weeks before the upcoming election.

While discussing Senator Bernie Sanders, Trump claimed Harris was “further left” than Sanders and urged the crowd to tell her they had “had enough.” He emphasized, “We can’t stand you. You’re a s— vice president,” as the audience reacted to his comments.

Trump’s choice of words is part of a broader strategy as he campaigns for the Republican presidential nomination. His recent rhetoric reflects a willingness to engage in direct and often controversial personal attacks, a tactic he has employed throughout his political career.

Vice President Kamala Harris Warns Against a Second Trump Term on ‘PoliticsNation’ with Al Sharpton

Today, on PoliticsNation with Al Sharpton, Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized the dangers of a potential second term for Donald Trump while promoting her positive vision for America. Harris, part of the Harris-Walz ticket, underlined her commitment to earning every vote as their campaign continues to focus on battleground states.

Harris criticized Trump’s leadership, stating, “Donald Trump should never again stand behind the seal of the President of the United States. He has not earned the right. He has not earned the right. And that’s why he’s going to lose.” She noted that the American people deserve a president who sets a global standard, adding that Trump “demeans the office” and that Americans “deserve so much better.”

Contrasting her forward-looking policies with Trump’s “dangerous Project 2025 agenda,” Harris outlined her plan for an “Opportunity Economy.” Her proposal aims to uplift Americans with ambition and strong work ethics but who lack the resources to realize their goals fully. She emphasized that her administration would help ensure that Americans survive and thrive. Harris aimed at Trump’s economic plans, saying that he is “offering something very different,” such as a proposed 20% tax on everyday necessities and cuts to taxes benefiting the wealthiest.

Throughout the interview, Harris reiterated her dedication to engaging voters directly. “I will leave nothing on the field in this election,” Harris vowed, underscoring that every vote must be earned. She warned of ongoing efforts to spread “mis- and disinformation” to discourage voter participation. Still, she assured Americans that she will continue to visit all communities, allowing voters to “hear directly” from her and make informed decisions.

Meanwhile, Harris noted that Trump has scaled back campaign efforts, canceling interviews due to “exhaustion,” hosting fewer rallies, and delivering increasingly incoherent remarks.

As the campaign intensifies, the Harris-Walz ticket aims to clearly contrast their vision of an inclusive, opportunity-driven America with Trump’s plans to return to office.

Trump Reportedly ‘Exhausted,’ Cancels Another Interview in Last Weeks of Campaign

Trump Questions VP Kamala Harris Race at NABJ Conference: 'She Happened to Turn Black'

Trump Questions VP Kamala Harris Race at NABJ Conference: 'She Happened to Turn Black'

After Former President Donald Trump, 78, canceled another interview, this time with The Shade Room, a new report has provided a reason. He’s exhausted and doesn’t have the energy to meet the demands.

The campaign was reportedly deep in conversation with The Shade Room, but no conversation occurred. According to Politico, a Trump adviser stated he is “exhausted and refusing [some] interviews, but that could change.” In his replacement, the campaign offered Waka Flocka to speak.

Trump’s national press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, contrasts the report, saying, “President Trump is running laps around Kamala Harris on the campaign trail.”

Last week, Trump reportedly used an offensive term to refer to Vice President Kamala Harris during a private dinner with billionaire donors, according to a report by The New York Times. The incident allegedly occurred on Sunday, Sept. 29, at Trump’s Trump Tower penthouse.

During the gathering, Trump reportedly aired grievances about the 2024 presidential race and expressed frustration over his lack of appreciation from key donors. The Times reported that Trump used the term “re—–” while discussing Harris, who is set to be his opponent on the presidential ballot come Election Day.

The dinner reportedly included notable figures such as former Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, hedge fund manager Paul Singer, and investment banker Warren Stevens.

Late last month, while speaking in Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump discussed reducing crime. He suggested a policy like those in The Purge would solve the issue.

“If you had really violent day, with Mike Kelly, congressman Kelly in charge for one day,” Trump said. “A chain of events that’s so bad, one rough hour, I mean real rough, the word would get out and it would end immediately.”

You can hear it from Trump below.

2024 Elections: Where both candidates stand on the major issues

2024 Elections Where both candidates stand on the major issues

With the 2024 presidential election less than a month away, there is a lot of information (and misinformation) about where the candidates stand on major issues that impact American voters. Using information from a variety of non-partisan sources, we’ve summarized where the candidates stand on key issues as well as provided resources to find more unbiased information about presidential and other candidates’ stances before casting your vote.

Abortion:

Harris has stated that she will urge congress to reinstate access to abortion nationally as it was before the historic 2022 Supreme Court decision that essentially overturned Roe v. Wade.

In the past, Trump has supported the Supreme Court’s ruling that abortion access should be decided a the state level. He is unclear as to whether or not he would sign a blanket federal abortion ban. However, he has indicated that he would support a federal ban after a certain length of pregnancy. It is unclear if there would be exemptions if the mother’s life was in danger.

Crime:

Harris took a tough-on-crime approach as a District Attorney, but now has called for criminal justice reform, especially for non-violent drug offenses. She has also suggested temporarily pausing the death penalty.

Trump believes in giving police more authority to fight crime. He has called for more funding to train and hire police as well as pushed for qualified immunity of law enforcement. He has also called for the national guard to assist local police as needed.

Economy:

While she initially proposed repealing the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in its entirety, it appears that Harris now plans to extend the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act provisions for those making less than $400,000 a year, expand the child tax credit and earned income tax credit, and add more funding to subsidize Affordable Care Act premiums. Harris said that she will end taxes on tips. She plans to pay for this by raising corporate tax and capital gains rates both from 21% to 28% and increasing tax rates for wealthier Americans and large corporations. Under her plan, billionaires would have a minimum tax rate of 25%. Harris has proposed lowering taxes for small businesses. Harris has proposed expansions to the Child Tax Credit (CTC).

Trump also plans to extend the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act provisions. Trump says that he will end taxes on overtime pay and Social Security benefits for individuals and reduce the corporate tax rate to 15% for domestic American manufacturers. Trump has also said that he will end taxes on tips. Trump will pay for this by imposing tariffs of between 10% to 20% on every foreign import coming into the US from places other than China. Imports from China would have a tariff rate of over 60%. He has also said that he will reduce corporate taxes in order to stimulate hiring and economic growth. While Trump has not explicitly stated whether or not he believes in expansions to the Child Tax Credit (CTC), his running mate JD Vance has indicated that like Harris, he also supports expansion.

Education

Harris has said that she will continue to work towards reducing burdensome student loan debt and provide more funding for colleges and universities (especially HBCUs), including technical training.

Trump has said that he will eliminate the Department of Education. This would leave the oversight of public schools to the states if they chose to have oversight in the matter.

Environment:

Harris has said that she plans to reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil. She plans to continue Biden’s plans to offer tax incentives for eco-friendly initiatives at the corporate and individual level (such as tax credits for the purchase of electric vehicles). She has said that she plans to address how environmental issues often disproportionally impact poor and minority communities, but she has not laid out specific measures to do so.

Trump has said that he will end the “Green New Deal atrocities” on his first day in office. It is assumed that he was referring to certain Biden administration energy policies, which include vehicle greenhouse gas emissions limits and increases in fuel economy standards. He also plans to reduce American dependence on foreign oil by expediting natural gas pipelines into the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and New York as well as tap into stores of liquid gold for energy development. He will also exit the Paris Climate Agreement as he did when he was in office (Biden rejoined during his term). He also plans to fight harder against certain legal challenges from environmentalists.

Healthcare:

While in office, Trump made an unsuccessful attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare. He has indicated that he will seek to repeal and replace it with a “better” plan, although specifics have not been provided. Trump has also been vocal about putting caps on life-saving prescription medications such as insulin. During his tenure in office, he pressed for work requirements and more vetting as conditions for Medicaid eligibility.

During her tenure as VP, Harris and the Biden administration enacted the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), which temporarily expanded eligibility for and increased ACA Marketplace subsidies, which are set to continue through 2025 as part of the Inflation Reduction Act.

Housing Crisis:

Harris has said that she will advocate for more federal funding to provide affordable housing and reduce homelessness.

Trump has said that he will encourage more construction of new homes by incentivizing homebuilders to build new affordable homes.

Neither candidate has explicitly addressed whether or not they will regulate corporations abilities to buy multiple residential properties.

Israel/Gaza:

Harris has been critical of Hamas and supported Israel’s right to defend itself, but does not support further Israeli invasions into Palestinian territory. She has called for a cease-fire and has said that she supports a two-state solution.

Trump has expressed both support and criticism for Israel, but largely believes that the United States should keep involvement to a minimum.

Marijuana Legalization:

Despite her aggressive prosecution of marijuana-related crimes while district attorney and attorney general, Harris now supports full marijuana legalization at the federal level, explaining that marijuana laws have historically targeted minorities in the past. She has also called for nonviolent marijuana-related criminal offenses to be expunged.

Trump has indicated that he supports the legalization of marijuana and the possible expungement of marijuana-related criminal offenses, but believes that it should be decided at the state level rather than the federal level.

Ukraine:

Harris has repeatedly expressed support for Ukraine and during her tenure with the Biden administration, announced that about $1.5 billion in aid would be sent to Ukraine for infrastructure and other civilian assistance.

Trump has not taken an official side in the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia (referring to it more than once as a proxy war), but said that brokering a peace deal will be a high priority once he is in office. Trump has made no indication that he will continue to fund Ukraine’s efforts.

Kamala Harris Roasts Donald Trump During BET Awards Interview With Fat Joe

Fat Joe served as the host of the 2024 BET Awards. The veteran rapper did his thing in a series of segments and presentations. The most surprising segment of the night, however, was pre-recorded. BET aired a two minute interview in which Kamala Harris talked about various policies and issues. Fat Joe and Too Short were among the people in attendance. Harris gave her two cents regarding the importance of voting, but nobody expected her to attack her opponent, Donald Trump, so bluntly.

Harris told Fat Joe and company that Trump’s “Project 2025” initiative would be detrimental to middle class families. She urged voters to Google the initiative and do their own research before casting a vote for the former President. “It would do things like eliminate overtime pay,” Kamala Harris noted. “It would get rid of the Department of Education, including Head Start. [It’d] do the work of trying to destroy our democracy and really work against middle-class folks.” She insisted that voters do what is best for the country, instead of what she alleges is best for Trump.

Kamala Harris Claimed That Her Opponent Is ‘Weak’

“You should never let anyone silence you,” Kamala Harris added. “Because when you vote you have the ability to determine the future of our country.” The real dig came at the end of the interview, however. As Fat Joe sat to her right, the Vice President tore down Trump’s character. “This is a man who’ll posture like, ‘Hey, support me because I’m tough and strong,’” she asserted. “But he’s weak.” It was not what most BET Awards viewers were expecting, but it was definitely one of the show’s most notable bits.

Fat Joe made his political allegiance to Kamala Harris clear during the broadcast. The Terror Squad star brought in Las Vegas Congressman Steven Horsford to help him advocate for the importance of voting. Horsford told hip hop fans to celebrate and preserve the culture by casting their vote for Harris. Fat Joe also made a few political statements during the award show. “Look, y’all know we aren’t supposed to talk politics at the party but vote,” he told viewers. He threw shots of his own at Trump, as well. He praised Kamala Harris for working to forgive student debt, and then dissed Trump for “trying to bring back stop and frisk.”
