NBA YoungBoy is letting fans know there are no hard feelings toward Joe Budden. Speaking in a video released overnight, YoungBoy states everything is entertainment.

“Joe Budden, I love you bruh,” YoungBoy said. “They don’t understand our plot twist. It was strictly for us to do an interview after that. Don’t take us too serious, everything is for entertainment.”

Joe Budden and NBA Youngboy have gone back and forth over the past few days. Their rift began after Budden delivered his opinion on Youngboy’s music during episode 680 of his self-titled podcast.

“You ready to tell the truth about NBA Youngboy,” Budden said. “That nigga is trash. He is horrible. He is horrible. He is really, really, really, really, really bad.”

For clarity, Budden’s co-host Ish asked if he was speaking about music or as a person. “I don’t know him as a person, I’m only speaking about the music,” Budden replied. He then details how he is a star due to a record label push, which he seems to have backed away from.

Holding a stack of money from his house arrest location in Utah, YoungBoy would respond. “Don’t speak on me, don’t rat on me,” he stated.

In a JBTV group online, Budden stated: “I’m way bigger than him. Stop this.” Then, Budden ran off YoungBoy’s latest numbers. “The point is, you doing a lot for somebody that don’t sell more than 60,000 records.”

Why Was NBA YoungBoy Beefing With Joe Budden?

Joe Budden is no stranger to stirring up controversy through The Joe Budden Podcast. Since the series began airing in 2015, the former Slaughterhouse rapper has engaged in public feuds with Logic, Adam22, Migos, and even his own cohosts.

During a recent segment on Budden’s show, the retired rapper gave an honest reaction to NBA YoungBoy’s latest efforts. During the segment, Budden called the 24-year-old rapper “trash” and said his latest music is “horrible.” Budden’s unfiltered take caused a wide array of backlash from YB himself. The beef also invited comments from prominent hip-hop figures such as Birdman and Benzino.

Joe Budden’s Comments Sparked The Beef

The critique didn’t stop at NBA YoungBoy’s latest studio project, Decided 2, which dropped last month. Joe Budden continued his comments, entering into a tirade regarding the “YB better” meme. The running gag saw droves of YoungBoy fans leaving comments on other rappers’ songs and performances. According to Budden, this trend wasn’t an organic expression of support for the young rising star and actually came as a result of studio executives utilizing covert guerrilla marketing techniques. Budden also suggested that the overwhelming support for YB had died down in recent months, ever since the rapper was put on house arrest in Salt Lake City, Utah.

NBA YoungBoy Claps Back

In response to Joe Budden’s comments, NBA YoungBoy took to social media to clap back. The young rapper responded with an enraged and profanity-laced series of short videos. In them, YoungBoy touted his album’s prolonged placement on the Billboard charts, taunted Budden for his age and relevance, and invited the 43-year-old podcaster to pull up in Salt Lake for a man-on-man altercation.

While this enraged reaction may have inspired other media figures to ease tensions, Joe Budden doubled down. The podcaster took to Twitter Spaces to defend his comments, stating, “I just wanna say I’m way bigger than him. Stop this,” while reading off disappointing sales numbers and Billboard charts for YB’s latest records.

Birdman Weighs In

As the beef between Joe Budden and NBA YoungBoy continued to escalate, Young Money label head and YB mentor Birdman also decided to weigh in. While Birdman refrained from getting into specifics regarding the beef, he sternly warned Budden, stating, “You f***in with something you should leave alone.” In addition to trashing NBA YoungBoy’s numbers, Joe Budden also dissed the rapper’s fans. Budden referred to loyal listeners of YB as “young idiots” who are easily fooled by music industry tricks.

Joe Budden Apologizes

Thankfully, the beef seems to be dying down, as Budden took to his podcast to apologize for his comments and walk back some of his criticism. In his apology, the podcaster assured listeners that his initial comments sounded harsher than he intended and clarified that he has since spoken to NBA YoungBoy personally to squash their beef. With so many rap feuds ending in unnecessary violence, it’s nice to see these two men put their differences aside before the situation becomes unmanageable.

Rapper turned podcaster Joe Budden has made his career on being one of rap’s most prolific antagonists, issuing inflamatory takes in a never-ending effort to get more attention for his podcast than his music ever got. But every once in a while, he seems to recognize when he oversteps his bounds, issuing apologies to both Logic and Megan Thee Stallion in recent years for making jokes that made light of their legitimate issues.

You can add YoungBoy Never Broke Again (aka NBA YoungBoy) to that list after this week, after Budden make efforts to deescalate his simmering feud with the Louisiana lyricist. On the latest episode of his inexplicably popular podcast, Budden said, “I owe NBA an apology too. Let’s start with accountability. I owe him an apology. He don’t even bother nobody.” He also noted that he “didn’t feel good about” the coverage the dispute prompted from “the biggest blogs,” which he perhaps felt painted him in a less-than-positive light as an over-the-hill grouch who finds inordinate joy in picking on pretty much any rapper younger (and more successful musically) than he was 20 years ago.

Budden had previously called YoungBoy’s music “horrible,” and credited his streaming success to record label trickery, rather than genuine popularity with an audience Joe hasn’t been in touch with since his mixtape days. YoungBoy responded on Instagram (because he’s still on house arrest), telling Joe to “shut the f*ck up” and weirdly using his last album’s first-week numbers as a defense. Fortunately, we all know neither rapper is willing to get physical with the other because neither is a woman.

Why Do Joe Budden & NBA YoungBoy Have Beef?

Joe Budden, retired rapper and “shock jock” style podcaster, certainly has a lot of rap “beef” for somebody who only ever gets in front of a mic to spout incendiary opinions for viral traction on social media. And yet, here we are, with yet another rap artist expressing their irritation with Budden after he shared his thoughts on that rapper’s music.

This time, the artist in question is YoungBoy Never Broke Again (aka NBA YoungBoy), whose music Joe Budden called “trash” on a recent episdoe of his inexplicably popular podcast. In the podcast, Budden said, “That n**** is trash, he’s horrible, he’s horrible… he is really bad. That thing happened with him where when he was out, the label pushed the button and did some YouTube sh*t, so all the little kids had to come to the gathering and tell you about how great he is and how many views he has and all of that. Now that the label is backed up, we got three to four of those projects while he’s been in Utah on house arrest.”

In response, YoungBoy went on an expletive-laden rant on his label’s Instagram Story, refuting Budden’s claims. “The last thing I dropped was Decided 2, and my album is still in the top 10,” he argued. “You do all them interviews; come on Grave Digger Mountain and talk to me. If you can’t do that, you bitch-made. Shut your f*cking mouth.”

YoungBoy also does a lot of barking for someone who literally can’t leave the house, so this will proably amount to a few online swipes being exchanged between a pair of guys who have more in common than they do to argue about (namely, their treatment of the women in the lives). Birdman is someone who has consistently come to the defense of NBA YoungBoy. Overall, YoungBoy has had quite a few enemies over the years. Currently, his enemy seems to be none other than Joe Budden. In fact, he is in a feud with Joe pertaining to the podcaster’s criticism of his music. During a recent podcast episode, Joe said: “That n***a’s trash. He’s horrible. He is horrible. He is horrible. Really, really, really, really, really bad.” Budden also went on to say that the Youngboy love is inflated by YouTube numbers.

These comments subsequently led to a spirited rant by Youngboy himself. Overall, he went at Budden in a pretty brutal fashion. Moreover, he even took some shots at Joe’s manhood. “Don’t speak on me. I don’t play that s**t.” Don’t rat on me neither, you p***y b***h,” the rapper said. “Stupid dumb b***h, yo d**k don’t get even hard no more, clown-a*s n***a. Ain’t no sabotaging me, b***h. Another day, another hot take about the rap world from Joe Budden, who will probably receive an avalanche of threats for this one. Moreover, during the most recent episode of his podcast, he started to go through his notes in order to find what other topics he and the team could discuss. Eventually, the rapper got to a question from himself to himself, and to paraphrase it, he basically asked himself: “Are you sure you want to do this?” Then, he decided to jump into the fire and called NBA YoungBoy “trash” and a “horrible” MC. Because earlier YoungBoy music don’t sound like this to me. Like, he just dropped a single today. I listened to it last night, and I cut it off midway through. I’m just like, I can’t. [The difference between his music then and now is that] I could hear it. Like, literally.”

Joe Budden On Sexyy Red’s New Song “Free My N***a”: “I’m Off The Boat”

Even though Sexyy Red conquered 2023 with her hits, it seems like her latest one, “Free My N***a,” is even getting some fans off her side. Moreover, The Joe Budden Podcast recently discussed the release, and its titular host in particular was not a fan at all. Sure, it’s not like this crew absolutely loved her music before, but they liked it and had love for what she’s doing. However, we have to distinguish this disappointed reaction from the blind hatred that the St. Louis MC gets online no matter what she puts out there. Still, criticism is criticism, and the hosts debated on the longevity of her career and what her art centers around.

Furthermore, Joe Budden and his companions posited that it feels like someone forced Sexyy Red to make this record. To paraphrase them, say what you will about Hood Hottest Princess, but at least those songs on that album felt like they were hers. In comparison, they believe that the 25-year-old forced “Free My N***a,” and it didn’t come off as genuine or skilled as a result. Of course, this is just speculation at the end of the day, but it was a much more nuanced discussion than what sadly and typically plagues her Twitter mentions.

The Joe Budden Podcast Tears Into Sexyy Red’s “Free My N***a”: Watch

Elsewhere during their episode, The Joe Budden Podcast also discussed CyHi The Prynce’s new music video for “Mr. Put That S**t On.” In it, the rapper jokingly depicts this podcast, specifically and seemingly taking aim at Budden for their years-long beef. Before you get too quick to assume, there’s an explanation for this that CyHi offered. According to him, this was meant to show how media discussion and criticism impacts the creative process both ways, and wasn’t necessarily a dig at the Slaughterhouse affiliate.

Meanwhile, we know just how harsh Joe Budden can be when it comes to his critique of music. In fact, it was a surprise when this year’s biggest rival for the podcaster, Drake, dropped a new EP and he chose to not comment on it at all. Despite receiving disses on those tracks, it’s clear that– for the most part– the 43-year-old only speaks on things when he’s passionate about their importance.
