Dinner Party Holds A Soulful Jam Session On ‘Jimmy Kimmel’ With A Performance Of ‘Insane’ With Ant Clemons

Fresh off of their Coachella weekend one performance, supergroup Dinner Party headed over to Jimmy Kimmel Live! to deliver yet another powerful set, this time for the fans at home.

Comprised of saxophonist Kamasi Washington, multi-instrumentalist Terrace Martin, DJ/producer 9th Wonder, and keyboardist Robert Glasper, the musical powerhouse’s self-titled debut album showcased just how much further the industry veterans could push themselves. On their latest project, Enigmatic Society, they are looking to outdo themselves.

Joined by singer Ant Clemons, Dinner Party demonstrated their growth with an intimate performance of the single “Insane.” As Clemons sings, “Hella glad you made it / Shot a clock, I’m faded / Be my designated / Call your driver, baby / ‘Cause that body drives me crazy,” the listener is hocked in with the buttery smooth lines.

The oozing swagger of the song’s lyrics is heightened by the musicians’ homely stage set up on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Dinner Party and Clemons hold an effortlessly soulful jam session blending together areas of each musician’s areas of expertise, from jazz to jazz and every element in between.

Lil Dicky Says Usher Is The Reason He Strips During Concerts

In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Lil Dicky revealed that he strips during his shows because of Usher. The rapper and actor, whose real name is Dave Burd, was on the late-night talk show to promote his show Dave. The show, which is now entering its third season, is semi-autobiographical. It follows the story of a suburban white man who manages to convince himself that he is going to be a great rapper. Dave has featured many illustrious guest stars from the music industry, including Doja Cat, Lil Yachty, Justin Bieber, and Trippie Redd.

Dave Burd is a comedian, actor, and rapper hailing from Philadelphia. According to him, rap was more of a path to a career in comedy. However, after he released his first mixtape entitled So Hard in 2013 under the moniker “Lil Dicky”, he fell in love with rapping. Since then, he has released a second mixtape, a full studio album, an EP, and countless singles. Though much of his music may be comedic in nature, it hasn’t stopped him from getting huge features from big-league artists like Snoop Dogg and Chris Brown.

Seeing Usher Made Lil Dicky Weep

In his promo tour for Dave, Lil Dicky stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to talk about a whole host of topics, including some of his inspirations. While talking to Kimmel, he reminisced about the time he saw Usher in concert as a child. “I see this man on stage, and I remember weeping watching him as he would strip down into his underwear,” he said. “And honestly, I now, strip down to my underwear when I get shows, because of Usher.”

In season 3 of Dave, viewers can expect to see more exciting cameos, one of which will be Usher himself. When the R&B singer was on set, Lil Dicky took the opportunity to tell him about the stripping habit he’d picked up from watching his concerts. Though this may seem like an awkward interaction, apparently Usher was okay with it. When asked how he reacted to the information, Burd simply said, “He thought it was cool.” Let us know what you think of this revelation, in the comments below.

Chlöe Has One Simple Wish On Her New Song, ‘Cheatback,’ Which She Just Debuted On ‘Kimmel’

Anticipation is high for Chlöe’s solo debut album, In Pieces. Just days before its arrival, Chlöe stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to debut a new song from the project.

On her latest song, “Cheatback,” Chlöe has no desire to exact revenge on an unfaithful man. In this case, she’d prefer to give him a taste of his own medicine.

Over a simple acoustic guitar, Chlöe reminds the cheater that she has plenty of people knocking on her door, and she isn’t afraid to play the games he has been playing with her.

“Find another boo from the hood with some tats / Give him what’s yours, show him I can throw it back / Maybe then, baby, you’ll know how to act / if I cheat back / Send him new pics in that outfit you like / Say I’m with my girls while he spendin’ the night / Maybe then, baby, you’ll know how to act / if I cheat back,” she sings on the song’s chorus.

Fans can hear the official version, which will feature Future, upon the release of In Pieces this week. In the meantime, check out the performance above.

In Pieces is out 3/31 via Parkwood/Columbia Records. Find more information here.

Teyana Taylor Recalls Teaching Beyoncé The ‘Chicken Noodle Soup’ Dance As A Teenager: ‘She Was Like A Proud Aunt’

Teyana Taylor had a good time last night (March 23) during her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to support her new movie A Thousand And One. She discussed her funny interaction with Justin Bieber during a celebrity basketball game, and she also dished on her experience teaching Beyoncé the “Chicken Noodle Soup” dance when she was only 15 years old.

“She originally wanted to learn the ‘Chicken Noodle Soup,’” she told Kimmel, and then clarified, “This is a popular Harlem dance. I’m from Harlem. I’m battling everybody, and she wanted to learn. So they called me and I was like 15 years old, so I hopped off the bed onto my skateboard and went down there.”

She was surprised at the time, saying she “didn’t even know I would have that opportunity.” Beyoncé even advocated for her to spice up Jay-Z’s music videos as well.

“She was like a proud aunt. She was like, ‘I told you she’s a superstar,’” she said.

When Kimmel asked if Jay-Z thought she was a superstar as well, she answered, “He did. But first he tried to give me a hard time, because we’re both a Sagittarius. So he was testing me.”

Teyana Taylor’s Lockdown Defense On Justin Bieber At A Basketball Game Is What Got Now-Husband Iman Shumpert To First Notice Her

Some couples have great meet-cute stories to tell at parties. It’s a pretty safe bet, though, that if it were a competition, no one would be able to top Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert‘s tale, which involves Justin Bieber, celebrity basketball, and Spike Tee’s stellar defensive instincts.

Taylor recounted the thrilling yarn during her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Thursday night to promote her new movie A Thousand And One, which apparently has a 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. After she recalled her first meeting with Beyoncé (to teach her the Chicken Noodle Soup dance), Kimmel pulled out a photo of Taylor with Justin Bieber that was taken during a celebrity basketball game. In it, Bieber’s dribbling while being chased by Taylor, both grimacing from the effort.

“I was on his ass,” Taylor joked. “He was kinda showing off ’cause he knew he was good. I said, ‘Oh yeah? Aight, bet.’… But that was the very moment that my husband fell in love with me. He’s like, ‘Who is that girl? Her defense is on point!’” She said the similarity between them — Shumpert was known as a defensive specialist during his NBA days — got his attention but she made his pursuit… well, interesting.

“Even though he was feeling [me] this day, he didn’t get me that day!” she proclaimed. She explained, though, that it was three years before she agreed to go out with him. He remained persistent and they became friends and business partners (Taylor took on Shumpert as a styling client), but after getting to know him — and see him with his shirt off — they fell in love.

Raye’s Chilling Performance Of ‘Ice Cream Man’ On ‘Kimmel’ Is A Triumph For Survivors Everywhere

Raye told music lovers on “Escapism” that she could provide me context if they cared to listen, and that they did. On her debut album, My 21st Century Blues, the singer leaves no stone unturned. Across the 15 tracks, Raye addresses her former label’s mistreatment, battling depression, and other traumatic experiences she has had to overcome in order to get to where she is today.

On the single “Ice Cream Man,” she painfully outlines the life of a sexual assault survivor. For her Jimmy Kimmel Live performance, she poured that heartbreak all over the stage for viewers to sit with. Comfortably positioned at the piano, backed by other musicians, Raye opens with the dark truth of how so many aspiring musicians are preyed upon. The chorus, “Coming like the ice cream man / ‘Til I felt his ice-cold hands / And how I pay the price now, damn / God damn, no what the, God damn / Everything you did, it left me in a ruin / And no, I didn’t say a word, I guess that proves it,” broadcasts that emotional spiral assault survivors find themselves on after they’ve been violated.

However, after building up the strength to reclaim her power, Raye belts out, “Cause I’m a woman / I’m a very f*cking brave strong woman/ And I’ll be damned if I let a man ruin / How I walk, how I talk, how I do it / Man, I’ve been broken for a moment, I’ve been through it no / It’s even harder to be brave alone / Was a girl, now I’m grown, I’m a woman / A very f*cking strong woman.”

When asked about the project, in a statement, Raye said, “My 21st Century Blues. My debut album. My ugly, complex, beautiful mosaic formed from broken pieces of glass from the last seven years of my life. This music is my medicine, my anxieties, traumas, and unfiltered thoughts. The music on this record empowered me to face my demons and has accompanied me through my bluest blues, crafted unapologetically and fearlessly with love and tears. Now I can only hope it might provide the same medicine it did for me for those who choose to listen.”

The musician later added, “Some of these songs I’ve had for years that I’ve needed to express and share. Before, I was told it was too uncomfortable and that audiences don’t want to hear it. There’s no sonic through-line. It was just creating whatever felt right for the story I wanted to tell over it. It just feels free.”

Coi Leray Gives Stunning Performance Of “Players” On Jimmy Kimmel

The end of 2022 and the start of 2023 have been very kind to Coi Leray. It all started when she released her Nov. 2022 single “Players.” The song samples the classic hit “The Message” released by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five in 1982. The track would eventually land on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and recently peaked at No. 17. This is Leray’s first top 20 hit in her career, indicative of how far she’s come in the past few months.

With the “Players” success came some interesting revelations about the song. Soon after its blow-up, Coi dropped a club mix of the song to continue attracting attention to it. She later confessed that the song only took her one take in the studio to record. This impressive feat eventually caught the eye of the song’s originator. Grandmaster Flash recently gave his props to Coi for the song and its success. “I love his positive energy,” Coi said after the encounter. As one of the biggest moments of her career, Leray decided that “Players” needed to be performed in front of live audiences.

Coi Leray On Kimmel

On Feb. 28, Coi Leray visited the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show on ABC. Donning an all-white fit and accompanied by two backup dancers dressed accordingly, Coi delivered a stellar performance of “Players.” Although there was a back-track present, Coi Leray did most of the singing live. With very animated dance moves and her patented confident demeanor, Leray once again proved why she has attracted so many loyal fans. Her “girls is players too” hook certainly resonated with not only female fans, but listeners of all backgrounds.

“Players” came out in the same year that Coi released her debut album Trendsetter. The LP included hits like “BIG PURR,” “Blick Blick,” “Thief In The Night, “TWINNEM” and “No More Parties.” Although the first week numbers underwhelmed, the success of “Players” proved that Coi never stopped believing in herself and her artistry. With a nice second wind for her career, it will be interesting to see where Coi goes from here, and when we can expect more music from the 25-year-old.

Snoop Dogg Reminisced About ‘Quitting’ Smoking Weed 20 Years Ago On The ‘Jimmy Kimmel’ Anniversary Episode

Last night (January 26), Jimmy Kimmel Live! celebrated its 20th anniversary with a special episode looking back at the show’s two-decade run. They even got the celebrity guests from the debut episode back: Snoop Dogg (who served as co-host on the 2003 episode) and George Clooney. The two had a retrospective conversation, in which they discussed how at the time back then, Snoop had apparently just quit smoking weed… or so he told Kimmel.

Kimmel brought that up and followed up, “How is that going?” Snoop, who is of course one of pop culture’s most famous marijuana connoisseurs, gave a fake sigh and replied, “Well, I guess I’ve relapsed.”

From there, Kimmel revealed he has hung on to Snoop’s 2003 rider (a list of things he wanted in his dressing room) for all these years and rattled off the items, which were mostly junk food. He then compared it to Snoop’s current rider, which is essentially the same but just a lot longer. Snoop laughed as he read the newer rider and then explained, “You got to look at it like this: Every opportunity to go on a television show is like a shopping spree. I get a chance to get some free groceries.”

Check out the clip above. Snoop also sat in on Kimmel’s conversation with Clooney, so find that below.

Janelle Monáe Had A Completely Topless Birthday Party And Has Now Explained The NSFW Video On ‘Kimmel’

Janelle Monáe dropped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to dish on their appearance in Netflix’s upcoming blockbuster, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery… as well as the backstory behind a video of them posing topless at a friend’s birthday party.

Much like the mystery in the movie, this friend takes Monáe on a secret vacation destination each year, with past places including Jamaica and Las Vegas. This year’s party spot was Mexico — and each night of the trip had a different theme.

The first night of Monáe’s birthday trip was “Intergalactic,” where they channeled an extraterrestrial in a pink wig and lots of fluorescent sparkles. From there, the friends organized a “hot sexy tea party” (with a lingerie dress code) and a murder mystery party night. (It’s unclear if Monáe won this game, considering their recent experience in the genre.)

However, Monáe decided to let their creativity shine when the friends organized a “wine night where […] your clothes need to match your favorite white wine or your favorite red wine.” They opted for neither.

“Earlier in the day they had told me the theme and I was like, you know what, it’s my birthday, I just want to be free!” they explained. “I want to be, like, so free and I want to let it all hang out. So they were all dressed and I was topless.”

Monáe uploaded a video from that night to Instagram, where they are dancing around in just a skirt as a band plays and fireworks set off from the beach. “Still floating. Thank you all for the bday love. This is just a small glimpse of how I spent it,” the caption read. “Fully honoring the present. Thank you to my loved ones for planning such a magical experience + each of them adorning my body with temp tats so I could have a bday suit that matched how i felt.”
