Jay-Z Curates A TIdal Playlist Dedicated To His Former Rival, Nas

Jay-Z and Nas are two of the last Golden Era veterans still standing with the same level of mainstream recognition as younger successors and proteges, as evidenced by their presence on DJ Khaled’s upcoming album Khaled Khaled. However, despite their longevity in the game, they only have a handful of tracks together; their Khaled collaboration “Sorry Not Sorry” will only be the fourth time they’ve actually worked on a song together, as opposed to one or the other being added after the fact. You would think they didn’t like each other or something.

To commemorate their latest conjunction of talents, Jay-Z is using one of his infamous Tidal playlists to pay tribute to his fellow King of New York contender. The playlist, titled “Curated By The God Hov,” places many of Nas’s standout performances, from his 1994 debut Illmatic all the way up to his Grammy-winning 2020 album King’s Disease, in one place. Some of Nas’s most famed guest verses appear as well, including his standout rap from Raekwon’s “Verbal Intercourse,” his label beef-defying cameo on Kanye West’s “We Major,” and the cross-coastal posse cut “Phone Tap” with The Firm.

You can check out the playlist below, and keep your eyes peeled for Jay and Nas’s video for “Sorry Not Sorry” from Khaled Khaled later tonight.

Jay-Z Is Venturing Into The Fitness World With His Latest Investment

Jay-Z’s next business move is a step into the fitness world. His investment firm Marcy Venture Partners has teamed up with former MLB baseball player Adrian Gonzalez to put money in the Los Angeles-based LIT Method. The fitness company was launched by Justin and Taylor Norris back in May 2020 after the duo created the LIT Strength Machine, an all-in-one water rower, Pilates reformer, and resistance band training system.

Larry Marcus, co-founder and managing director of Marcy Venture Partners, spoke about the new investment in a statement. “Justin and Taylor are tenacious and adaptive entrepreneurs with so much drive and passion,” he said. “Their engaging content, motivating style, and innovative equipment are a winning combination.” Justin and Taylor also discussed the new investment in a statement of their own. “Having Marcy Venture and Adrian Gonzalez as partners in this mission means we can support the growing demand for the machine, expand our product line, and make our method accessible to people across the country,” they said.

The move comes after Jay-Z sold half of his company Ace Of Spades champagne to LVMH for an undisclosed amount. According to the rapper himself, the decision was motivated by the brand’s growth, which surpassed the expectations and expertise it already had. Jay later sold his streaming service, Tidal, to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s Square for $297 million in cash and stocks. In exchange, Jay was given a seat on the mobile payments company’s board.

Jay-Z Explains Why He Doesn’t See Cancel Culture Going Away Anytime Soon

Although it’s widely accepted among reasonable folks that “cancel culture” isn’t necessarily as dangerous as some people with big platforms have made it out to be, it does seem apparent that social media call-outs for problematic behavior have become the new de facto status quo. In a new interview with Sunday Times in the UK about his recent partnership with Puma, Jay-Z addressed the question of whether he foresees an end to the present state of affairs: No way.

“You can’t give someone a microphone for 24 hours a day and [have them] not think they have to use it!” he explained. However, he expressed sympathy for younger social media users who may not have the best grasp of the situations they’re being asked to address. “These kids, it’s unbelievable. Imagine having a microphone and you’re asked about social justice questions at 18 years old? It’s like, ‘What? I’m meant to know the answer, and if I don’t answer the correct way, if I don’t say everything right, even if my intentions are right, and I don’t say the same right thing, it’s going to be everywhere.’”

He doesn’t think he’d be on social media much, even if his rise had come along 20 years later. Meanwhile, he expressed his own views on some of the most pressing social issues being debated online. “As a human race we’re still on basic things,” he said. “We’re still on Stop Asian Hate. We can’t sit and cry over spilled milk, but we do have to acknowledge that there’s milk, right?… it’s very frustrating. Are we here today? No. Are we further than 50 years ago? Yes.”

Jay-Z Says He Hopes To Be Remembered Alongside Greats Like Bob Marley

Most of Jay-Z’s recent moves have come on the business side of things. He recently sold his Tidal streaming service to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s Square for $297 million in stock and cash. The move gave the rapper a position on the mobile payment company’s board. Prior to that, he sold half of his Ace Of Spades champagne company to LVMH, but a price tag in this deal was not shared.

Despite the business moves, Jay continues to impact as a rapper, and his verse alongside Nipsey Hussle on “What It Feels Like” is complete proof of that. During a recent sit-down with The Times UK, he spoke about his legacy as a rapper and how he hopes to be remembered.

“I’m not beyond ego, right?” he said. “Hopefully they speak of me [with] the names of Bob Marley and all the greats. But that’s not for me to say.” He added, “I’m most proud of overcoming my circumstances and providing opportunity for people who look like me and who came from the same situation that I’ve come from.”

Later in the interview, Jay-Z joked about how hard leg day workouts are for him.

“You ever seen my legs? They’re horrible. So of course!” Back on “Bam” from his 2017 album, 4:44, Jay-Z rapped, “Uh, n****s is skippin’ leg day just to run they mouth / I be skippin’ leg day, I still run the world.” Fast forward a few years and it seems like Jay has realized sticking to leg day could make running the world a bit easier.
