Blu Drops Beat Tape “Abc” For Poetry Book, “LETTER”

When you conjure up a list of some of the best rappers when it comes to writing, you have to include Blu in those conversations. The underground California MC always delivers quality, and it is hard to find any flaws in the things this man does. However, he is no one-trick pony, as he is also a fantastic producer. Over this weekend, Blu is here to prove any possible doubters by coming through with a full tape of beats on a project called abc.

This is not just any regular instrumental hip-hop record either though. For this abc project, Blu partnered with affiliated record label EveryDejaVu to work on a poetry book. According to their Instagram, this project has been in the making for about eight years now. “After many years and many versions, LETTER, a poetry book finally gets to see the light!” LETTER was so highly anticipated that all of the first edition copies were scooped up in the first two hours.

Luckily though, the label announced that a second wave of the title will be coming with some extra goodies as well. For now, the album can be streamed or purchased digitally on Bandcamp. The accompanying abc album spans just under a half an hour, which in this culminates into 15 tracks. The instrumentals seem to fit a poetry book. The beats are colorful and include creative sample flips, as well as a glitchy and carefree presentation.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album abc by Blu? Which songs are you gravitating toward the most right now? Where do you rank this project amongst the rest in his discography? Masego Kicks Drake While He’s Down, Layers Saxophone Over Metro Boomin’s Diss Instrumental “BBL DRIZZY”

One thing we have learned about what seems to be all of Drake’s peers turning on him during this beef is that producers also have issues with him. That has been evident ever since Metro Boomin essentially instigated all of this with his “Like That” record with Kendrick Lamar and Future. That one song has snowballed into continuous series of diss tracks and responses. Metro has even gotten in on the act by himself with his quite hilarious instrumental clap back, “BBL DRIZZY BPM 150.mp3.” Another fellow producer, Masego, apparently has something to say as well, with his version called “BBL Drizzy Sax Diss.wav.”

The Kingston, Jamaica singer and beatmaker, has a history of working with the public enemy number one, albeit a short one. On the Certified Lover Boy opener, “Champagne Poetry,” Drake sampled Masego’s hit song “Navajo.” That track in turn referenced a sped-up version of The Singers Unlimited record, “Michelle.” Masego was credited as a producer on “Champage Poetry” for that reason, and it appears that he did not have anything bad to say about Drake in interviews.

That is why this saxophone-tweaked version of Metro’s “BBL DRIZZY” beat is surprising. One user on Reddit is speculating that Drake pulled the wool over Masego’s eyes about receiving royalties. “I mean, he said “cut the check or I’ll show up with Jamaicans” at the end of this. Maybe Drake tried to pull some ‘actually I paid you in exposure’ s***.” Those bars could come across as contradictory due to an interview Masego did when asked about “Navajo” being used by Drake. “That’s what bought this chain,” the singer said flexing his flashy neckpiece. He even said he was “excited” when he heard it and that they had talked about Drake using “Navajo” for his record.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single and instrumental, “BBL Drizzy Sax Diss.wav,” by Masego? Why do you think he is now piling on Drake amidst everyone else turning on the Canadian rapper? Do you think Masego will speak out about this, why or why not? Do all of these attacks on Drizzy prove he has been the bad guy this whole time? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Veteran Brooklyn rapper, Ransom, has been keeping busy throughout the year. In 2023, he has put out three short projects. What is interesting, is that he treated his loyal fans to a double dosage. On July 4, he dropped two of his efforts, Directors Cut 4 and Year One.

The title might also be a dead giveaway as well. If you guessed that it was Drake and J. Cole’s bonus cut from For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition, you would be correct. In addition to that deluxe version, Drake also released just the instrumentals for the extra songs. He partially did this, so that he could challenge other rappers to tackle the beats.

What are your initial thoughts on this brand-new single, “Evil Ways FREESTYLE,” by Ransom? Do you think anyone can top his performance on this beat, why or why not? Is this the best song from the Scary Hours Edition of For All The Dogs? What other rappers would be good on this instrumental? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. I know the smell of dead bodies but still I’m heaven sent

Drake Announces “Scary Hours 3” Instrumentals, Challenges Other Artists To Rap Over Them

Last week, Drake returned from his surprisingly short “hiatus” from dropping new music. He did so to surprise drop his new Scary Hours 3 EP which added six new songs to his For All The Dogs album from last month. Drake himself spends much of the time on the songs dissing other artists and media figures. He takes shots at familiar foes like Pusha T and Joe Budden while also making some more surprising callouts aimed at Kanye West and 6ix9ine.

Now, Drake is offering other artists the chance to show off their own abilities over his instrumentals. He took to Instagram to announce that versions of the songs with no vocals were coming out soon and issued a challenge to other artists to try their hand at the songs. “Dropping the instrumentals this week I wanna hear who’s barring up” Drizzy captioned his Instagram announcement. It’s unclear when exactly the instrumental will arrive but when it does he’s clearly expecting to hear some talented artists to record their own versions of them. Check out the full announcement below.

Drake Wants To Hear Who’s “Barring Up”

The new songs from Scary Hours 3 being attached to the end of For All The Dogs will give the album a chance to return to the top spot on the Billboard 200. It’s expected to land somewhere in the 110k-130k range on next week’s chart. The album’s primary competitor for the top spot is, surprisingly, Dolly Parton’s collaboration-packed new album Rockstar. Parton is seeking her first ever number one album on the Billboard 200.

One of Drake’s biggest critics has been pretty quiet on Scary Hours 3. After being pretty vocal in his critiques of For All The Dogs, Joe Budden simply responded with “I have absolutely nothing to say” when asked about Scary Hours. What do you think of Drake sharing the instrumentals from his new EP and challenging other artists to rap over them? Who do you want to hear over songs from the project? Let us know in the comment section below.

Andre 3000 Shares Highly-Anticipated Project “New Blue Sun”

In a moment that has hip-hop enthusiasts rejoicing worldwide, Andre 3000 drops his highly anticipated album New Blue Sun. Earlier this week, Andre 3000 surprised fans by announcing his long-awaited solo debut album. Almost two decades have passed since OutKast’s last album, leaving fans hungry for new material from one of the genre’s most iconic figures. The revelation has sparked a wave of excitement, as listeners now get to delve into a groundbreaking addition to Andre 3000’s already illustrious career.

It’s almost surreal that the world hasn’t witnessed a solo project from the acclaimed rapper in all these years. While Andre 3000 has kept himself in the musical landscape with a handful of notable features, the prospect of a solo album seemed like a distant dream. Fans had, to some extent, resigned themselves to the idea that the elusive solo project might never materialize. However, the recent announcement has shattered those doubts and reignited the excitement for Andre 3000’s solo work.

The title, New Blue Sun, also speaks to the departure from the familiar, signaling a new chapter in Andre 3000’s artistic journey. In a departure from the conventional hip-hop norms, the album consists of an 87-minute sonic experience that defies expectations. This unique project deliberately does not include traditional rap bars. And the packaging boldly warns listeners with a succinct, “Warning: no bars.” According to NPR, André’s foray into this instrumental realm goes beyond the absence of vocals, as he immerses himself in a diverse array of flutes.

The album features a captivating showcase of his musical versatility, with André skillfully playing instruments ranging from contrabass flute to Mayan flutes and bamboo flutes, alongside other digital wind instruments. This departure from the lyrical and rhythmic elements typically associated with hip-hop highlights André 3000’s innovative approach. It’s an immersive journey where the absence of traditional bars doesn’t diminish the richness of the sonic landscape he meticulously crafts. Did you get a chance to check out the album yet?
