Even Debbie Harry Herself Seems Impressed By Jensen Ackles’ ‘Epic’ Blondie Cover On ‘The Boys’

Jensen Ackles is known for many things, mostly acting, but also the fact that he is no stranger to belting out a tune every once in a while and kind of killing it. Perhaps the writers of The Boys found this out and decided to use his talents for good in a new clip from the Amazon series.

Ackles’ character, a superhero by the name of Solider Boy (not that one), managed to perform a dazzling cover of Blondie’s 1980 hit “Rapture” during a preview of the very eighties show Solid Gold, complete with disco ball visuals and dancers donning side-ponies and body suits. Not only did Soldier Boy actually do a good job, but the cover made its way to Blondie herself, Debbie Harry.

Harry, who seems to be a fan of the show, responded to the video on Twitter, calling the performance “epic” and saying she was “speechless.”

Anthony Starr aka Homelander responded, “Epic indeed!! The version you never knew you needed,” to which Harry delightedly responded: “Homelander lazer us!!!” Perhaps there will be a Blondie/The Boys crossover in the newly ordered fourth season of the series? The icon even went back and forth with the official The Boys Twitter account, which makes a crossover even more likely. Let’s make it happen!

Ryan Trey Implores A Potential Lover In His ‘Only Us’ Video Featuring Babyface Ray

St. Louis rapper-singer Ryan Trey is having quite the breakout. A trapsoul crooner in the mold of 6lack and Bryson Tiller, Ryan Trey has made a name for himself by blending booming, washed-out beats with a vocal delivery that swings easily from melodic rapping to all-out belting. Last year, he dropped his debut album, A 64 East Saga, accumulating more attention and plenty of streams. Today, he teams up with another rising Midwesterner to kick off his next phase, tapping Detroit’s Babyface Ray for “Only Us,” a single of sultry come-ons for a potential paramour.

In an interview with Billboard earlier this year, he remarked on the similarity that some fans have noticed between him and Bryson Tiller, with whom he collaborated on “Nowhere to Run.” “I didn’t intentionally mean for that to sound that similar, but if that’s the record where I pay homage to Bryson, then that’s great, honestly,” he said. “Bryson is someone who really opened a lot of doors for me. I don’t ever mind the constant comparisons, because it’s just human nature to compare artists to the closest similar thing to them at first. For example, I love Don Toliver, but it took me this most recent project he just dropped for me to completely separate him from Travis Scott. It’s just human nature. So I’m never bothered by the comparisons because even I do it as a fan.”

Kidd Kenn Encourages Self-Celebration In His Confident ‘Body’ Video

Whether you credit it to Tyler The Creator, Brockhampton’s Kevin Abstract, or Lil Nas X, the floodgates have opened. Back in the 2000s, every publication that covered hip-hop seemed to have run a “Is Rap Ready For Gay Rappers?” piece and in 2022, the answer is a resounding “yaaasss” — although some institutions are clearly still behind the times.

In addition to the breakout of unapologetically out queer rappers like Lil Nas X, the doors have been opened for contemporaries such as Saucy Santana, who dropped his “Booty” video with Latto today, and Kidd Kenn, who also shared the video for his new single, “Body,” after performing the song for UPROXX Sessions last month.

At just 19 years old, Kenn has already accomplished plenty and is poised for his own takeover in 2022. Signed to Def Jam, the Chicago rapper has already turned heads at the 2021 BET Hip-Hop Awards Cypher, collaborated with fan favorites like Saucy Santana and Rico Nasty, and has performed at Pride events all over the country. His songs have also been synced for commercials for the likes of Target (“Good Day”), Apple (“Moves”), and Madden 22 (“Get Lit”). “Body,” meanwhile, is exactly what its title suggests: a body-positive single encouraging confidence and self-celebration. It’s rap for the next generation, less concerned with street cred than self-love, which is something much more valuable.

FBG Cash Was Reportedly Shot And Killed In Chicago, Just Two Years After FBG Duck

Just two years removed from the shooting death of Chicago rapper FBG Duck, another member of the FBG crew, FBG Cash was shot and killed in their hometown today at the age of 31, according to local news.

Cash, whose real name is Tristian Hamilton, was shot at about 5:30 this morning along with an unidentified woman while sitting in a vehicle in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. Another car pulled up alongside them and an unidentified man stepped out and fired multiple times before getting back into the car and speeding away. While Cash was hit several times in the body, the 29-year-old woman was also shot in the left arm and upper back. Cash was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The woman was also admitted to the hospital in serious condition.

Two years ago, another member of the “Fly Boy Gang,” FBG Duck, was also killed in an especially violent shooting in the Gold Coast neighborhood by four masked shooters, who left 38 bullet casings behind. According to Chicago Sun-Times, four members of a street gang faction were charged with his murder. FBG Cash denied involvement in the murder in a YouTube video. Police are still investigating today’s shooting.

FKA Twigs Debuts Her New Song ‘Killer’ In A Charismatic Tiny Desk Concert

NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert series is celebrating Black Music Month with showcases of Black artists both “at home” and at the titular Tiny Desk. The latest episode features genre-bending English singer-songwriter FKA Twig, performing in a mysterious-looking candlelit church, backed by strings and piano. In addition to singing two of her most beloved ballads, “Home With You” and “Cellophane,” as well as debuting a brand-new song, “Killer.”

FKA Twigs upped her game early this year with the release of her mixtape, Caprisongs. The tape, which featured the singles “Meta Angel,” “Jealousy,” “Bliss,” “Papi Bones,” “Honda,” and “Which Way,” highlighted her eclecticism and improved vocals, as well as featuring a spontaneity that hadn’t yet been heard from the convention-challenging Twigs. In her review, Uproxx’s Caitlin White writes, “… a more relaxed, linear style in the songwriting gives a deeper look into Twigs’ psyche than her past work.”

In addition to promoting her new tape, Twigs is expanding her resume, adding a brand-new acting role to her impressive list of achievements. In May, it was reported that Twigs had been cast in an upcoming remake of the 1994 gothic action movie The Crow — which is a perfect opportunity to showcase her martial arts and dance training.

Nardo Wick’s Intimidating ‘Riot’ Video Is A Gun-Stuffed Warning To His Enemies

Jacksonville rapper Nardo Wick returns with the raucous “Riot,” the follow-up to his first 2022 single, “Krazy Krazy.” After dropping the single itself at midnight, Nardo quickly re-upped with an intense music video full of menacing faces and brandished weapons. Seriously, if someone shows this to Congress, I bet they’ll pass gun control in a week.

Despite not having much new music out this year, Nardo’s 2022 is off to a promising start. In addition to his two impressive singles, he also caught Latto’s rising wave, popping up on “Stepper” from her well-received sophomore album, 777. These attention-grabbing performances are helping him maintain the momentum from his breakout 2021, which included the star-making single, “Who Wants Smoke?” its star-studded remix with 21 Savage, G Herbo, and Lil Durk, and its ferocious follow-up, “Me Or Sum” featuring Future and Lil Baby. Nardo’s big-name co-signers would mean little if he couldn’t back it up, though — and good thing for him, he does.

Nardo’s 2021 debut studio album Who Is Nardo Wick? was one of the better-received albums of the year. Also featuring appearances from fellow rising stars Big30 and Lakeyah, it peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard 200 and set the stage for him to become one of hip-hop’s hottest newcomers. If he’s planning to follow up this year with another new album, expect to see his name in lights in no time.

People Are Thinking Of The ‘Summer Of George’ After Britney Spears’ First Husband Got Arrested For Crashing Her Wedding

As if Britney Spears hasn’t been through enough, her technically first husband Jason Alexander was arrested for crashing her wedding to Sam Asghari. Alexander reportedly tried to livestream the event on Instagram before tangling with Spears’ security who secured him until the cops arrived. He’s currently looking at charges for trespassing, vandalism, and battery.

Obviously, this was a crappy thing to do to Spears on her wedding day, which arrives on the heels of her winning a grueling legal battle to finally free herself from her conservatorship. However, the situation took a more jovial turn as Twitter ran wild with the fact that her ex shares the same name as Seinfeld actor Jason Alexander. Following news of the arrest, “Summer of George” started trending as people couldn’t resist referencing the classic episode where George Costanza thinks he’s about to have the best summer of his life. (Sorry to spoil a 30-year-old show, but he does not.)

You can see some of the reactions below, and these are just a tiny taste of the “Summer of George” tweets that are still pouring in as of this writing:

As for the now-arrested Alexander, Spears’ attorney has vowed to make sure he’s fully prosecuted for crashing her nuptials. Via TMZ:

Britney Spears’ attorney, Mathew Rosengart, tells TMZ he’s “absolutely livid” Jason tried to crash the wedding and says Alexander needs to be locked up.

Rosengart tells us Britney is safe and adds … “I am personally working with the sheriff’s department to ensure Mr. Alexander is aggressively prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Despite Alexander’s trespassing, Spears’ wedding otherwise went off without a hitch as Madonna, Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton, Donatella Versace, and others attended the joyous event.

Post Malone Smokes Up To 80 Cigarettes A Day

We all have habits that don’t serve our health, and for Post Malone, one of those is smoking. He’s often seen with a cigarette in his hand and now we know a bit more about just how much smoking he does.

On a recent episode of the Full Send Podcast, Malone was asked how many cigarettes he smokes daily and he answered, “On a really terrible day? There’s a very fine line between a terrible day and a good day… 40, 45. By the time I ask Ben for that second pack, I’m like, ‘Alright dude, chill out,” right, you know? But then by the time I open that third pack, I’m like, ‘I’m a total piece of sh*t and I need to go to sleep.’”

As for the most cigarettes he’s smoked in a day, Malone estimates the number is “probably like 80.” For reference, the CDC previously reported that in 2016, the average number of cigarettes smoked per day by “daily smokers” was 14.

Malone also added (as HotNewHipHop notes), “I used to [smoke them in bed], but not really anymore. Now I have like a special zone — it has like my PC in it and my Magic: The Gathering sh*t, so I just go down there and f*cking rip cigs and build decks and die in Apex Legends. It definitely has [messed up my voice], but I mean, Johnny Cash smoked his whole life [and] he sounded cool, you know?”

This reveal comes shortly after he and Seth Meyers did some day drinking on Late Night.

Spotify Teases A New Project Featuring Kendrick Lamar’s First Trip To Ghana

Kendrick Lamar visits Accra, Ghana for the first time in the teaser for a new video project shared by Spotify. Although details are light, it appears that it’s a documentary that will premiere on the platform next week. In the teaser, Kendrick shares some of his philosophy, saying, “This life sh*t, it’s all about experience.” From some of the gorgeous imagery taken on the beaches and city streets of Ghana’s capital, he certainly had one heck of an experience there.

The project will be just one that the usually elusive Compton native has released this year. In May, Kendrick returned to the spotlight with the release of his new album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers — his first new album since 2017’s Pulitzer Prize-winning DAMN. The album was accompanied by the single “N95” and a short film based on the album cut “We Cry Together” featuring actress Taylour Paige. Kendrick also announced The Big Steppers Tour supported by his PgLang signees Baby Keem and Tanna Leone.

The album was preceded by a flurry of activity from Kendrick, who teased its release with the fifth installment of his freestyle series, “The Heart.” Earlier this year, he joined Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and 50 Cent at the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Stay tuned to see what he does next.
