50 Cent Honored With His Own Day In Shreveport After Blockbuster Deal

50 Cent has become a business mogul first and a rapper second. He’s excelled in every business venture he’s embarked on, and his dealings with Shreveport have not been any different. 50 recently opened up G-Unit Film & TV Studios in the Louisiana town, and citizens responded by giving the rapper his own holiday. 50 was awarded a ceremonial key to the city by Mayor Tom Arceneaux on April 18, in an event that was attended by over 1,000 Shreveport citizens. The rapper assured the crowd that he will be giving back to the city, and projects will start production as soon as July.

50 had nothing but kind things to say about Shreveport, yet he remained focused on his business plan during his acceptance speech. “As someone who’s always believed in the transformative power of music, film and television,” he told the crowd. “I’m really excited to show you the expansion of film and television through G-Unit Studios right here in Shreveport.” The arrival of G-Unit Film & TV Studios could not have come at a better time for the city. The production company will attract talent to the area, create jobs for locals, and spark economic growth. 50 took questions from the crowd after the ceremony, and assured everyone that it will not take long for these positive changes to occur.

50 Cent Promises To Generate Jobs In Shreveport

The rapper claimed it would take less than five years for Shreveport to benefit. “It won’t take ten years, maybe like three,” he asserted. “I’ve experienced in other opportunities that people will be attracted and get involved and do other things around it. So you’ll see it move a lot faster. Not everything is going to be me but it’ll happen because they saw something and ask[ed].” These figures may seem ambitious, but 50 knows what he’s doing. G-Unit Film & TV Studios has become the second biggest black-owned production company in the world.

50 kept it professional, yet he couldn’t help but poke fun at Diddy on Instagram after the ceremony. He posted a photo of a woman carrying a sign that read: “Ratchet City but no Diddy!” and claimed it made him love Shreveport even more. “Shreveport is the vibe,” he wrote in the caption. “Louisiana state of mind.” Don’t worry, thought, 50 Cent the rapper is still active. He wished Dr. Dre a happy birthday on Instagram in February, and confirmed that the two of them are working on new music.

One thing’s for sure: Shreveport is going to be playing that new 50 at full volume when it drops.

The New York City Council recently proposed to make Jay-Z’s birthday, December 4, a holiday for the metropolis known as “Jay-Z Day.” Moreover, it came through council member Farah Louis in Resolution 849 in early December of last year. “December 4 as Jay-Z Day announces to the world how this Brooklyn son can be all things including loved by his community,” she remarked, according to AllHipHop. “In the spirit of celebrating hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, establishing an annual celebration to recognize a homegrown hero while proclaiming our municipal support is fitting to designate. Our resolution is an emotional, practical banner raised. Jay-Z has shown the resilience to beat the odds, self-admitted errors, and has developed mechanisms to create opportunities for others. As always, he has done this work wearing Brooklyn and NYC on his heart.”

Furthermore, TMZ recently asked Big Daddy Kane about this potentially national initiative for Jay-Z on Friday (January 5). “I think it’s real cool,” he remarked to the outlet. “You gotta understand: hip-hop is a culture. A music culture. And now, it’s a genre that people shun down upon, look down upon, and when you see that it can grow billionaires, it can become a multi-genre where there’s different forms of hip-hop. It can become the biggest grossing music genre and see, if an artist can get a national holiday? I’m all for it.”

Right after the rapper was released from jail he was a hot commodity for rap blogs. So Akademiks had to prove he was serious to get an interview. “Yo, I waited… I think, like, ten hours for Bobby Shmurda when he just got out. I slept at the studio waiting for this n*gga. They kept telling me, ‘Oh, his jet is coming.’ They’re like, ‘Yo, when he lands, he wants to pull right up there.’ I’m like, ‘Can’t you just tell me when he’s actually even here?’ They’re like, ‘Nah, yo, just be on standby,” Ak explained.

The magic of the holiday season remains potent, and households across the globe look forward to the end of 2023. Between Halloween in October, Thanksgiving in November, and Christmas in December, there’s plenty of seasonal cheer in the final quarter of each year. Although it’s a time to spend time with loved ones, the ever-growing number of streaming subscribers anticipate new and classic holiday flicks. As a result, many holiday-themed movies have set up camp on Peacock.

Netflix also boasts some fun holiday movies, and Peacock is slowly catching up. Over the years, several classics have been released, as well as many more modest offerings. However, while some of these films can be quite unoriginal, they are almost never lacking in heart and cheer. 7. A Stone Cold Christmas (2018)

While this is not the most critically acclaimed offering out there, it is a good Christmas movie with a ton of heart nonetheless. A Stone Cold Christmas is an urban retelling of Charles Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol, and features a predominantly Black cast. The story revolves around Mia Stone (played by Demetria McKinney), a successful businesswoman known for her tough and no-nonsense attitude. Further into the story, her icy exterior begins to melt, and eventually, she opens up her heart to the joy of Christmas. 

6. 12 Days Of Christmas Eve (2004)

12 Days Of Christmas Eve stars Steven Weber in the lead role. He portrays the character Calvin Carter, a self-absorbed businessman who is more concerned about his career than his relationships. The story unfolds on Christmas Eve when Calvin finds himself stuck in a time loop, reliving the same day repeatedly. Basically, Calvin’s predicament befalls him to teach a lesson about the importance of kindness and empathy. Over the course of the story, he is given 12 chances to right his wrongs and mend his fractured relationships. Molly Shannon stars in a supporting role as the Angel who oversees Calvin’s “rehabilitation.” The cast and story of this movie are also charming and endearing. 12 Days of Christmas Eve is certainly one of the movies you should see on Peacock this holiday season. 

5. Almost Christmas (2016)

Previously titled A Meyers Christmas, this hilarious comedy-drama film directed by David E. Talbert, revolves around the dysfunctional Meyers family. Following the death of their beloved matriarch, they come together to celebrate their first Christmas after her passing. The movie features a star-studded cast, including Gabrielle Union, Kimberly Elise, Mo’nique, Danny Glover, and Romany Malco, among others.

Initially, as the family members reunite, old grudges and sibling rivalries, among other things, resurface, consequently leading to comedic situations. Subsequently, in the five days they spend together, they mend their relationships and rediscover the bond they share as a family. One of the holiday movies perfect for either Thanksgiving or Christmas, Almost Christmas should surely be on your Peacock watchlist this season.

4. One Special Night (1999)

Veteran actors and frequent collaborators Julie Andrews and James Garner play the two central characters in One Special Night. The story takes place between Thanksgiving and Christmas and follows the lives of two lonely individuals who find unexpected companionship and love. As the story unfolds, Robert (played by Garner) and Catherine (played by Andrews) form a deep emotional connection. One Special Night is a poignant tale that reminds viewers of the magic of the holiday season. Likewise, it brings to mind the potential for love to blossom in unexpected places.

3. Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010)

Set against the snowy backdrop of Finland, this dark fantasy movie offers a fresh and twisted take on the traditional Christmas tale. The story revolves around young Pietari Kontio, who discovers the dark secret behind the legend of Santa Claus. As children in a nearby village go missing, and reindeer are found slaughtered, Pietari starts to piece together the truth. Unlike most other Christmas tales, Rare Exports skillfully combines elements of horror, fantasy, and dark comedy. 2. This Christmas (2007)

This Christmas revolves around the Whitfield family, who come together to celebrate Christmas under one roof for the first time in years. The film explores the dynamics of their relationships at length, uncovering many family secrets along the way. Also, the challenges and joys that come with being together during the holiday season are equally revealed. This Christmas features impressive performances from Loretta Devine, Regina King, and Idris Elba, among others. Chris Brown also showed off his musical chops in the movie, as well as his acting skills. Overall, the movie has the perfect blend of humor, drama, and romance, and also features a great soundtrack. George Seaton’s 1947 classic is everything a holiday movie should be. The story’s central character is Kris Kringle (played by the late Edmund Gwenn). Kringle is a kind-hearted elderly man who claims to be the real Saint Claus and eventually gets people to believe it too. Gwen’s portrayal of the character earned him numerous accolades, and rightly so. The film explores themes of faith, belief, and the importance of imagination. Furthermore, it is widely celebrated for its heartwarming story, strong performances, and timeless message. Miracle on 34th Street is undoubtedly one of the best holiday movies available on Peacock right now.

Rema Gave An Engaging Performance Of ‘Calm Down’ And ‘Holiday’ On ‘The Tonight Show’

Last year, Rema shared his debut album Rave & Roses. He’s collaborated with Selena Gomez for a “Calm Down” remix, as well as FKA Twigs for “Jealousy.” Now, he’s bringing his material to late-night television with a new performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

He brought both “Calm Down” and “Holiday” to stage last night (April 5). He enthusiastically performed the two tracks as a hypnotic medley, not losing the watcher’s attention for a second. He engaged the audience the most while playing the celebratory anthem “Holiday,” dancing in a thick cloud of fog.

About joining Rema for a remix of “Calm Down,” Gomez said she was honored to be on the song.

“I’m really excited to see the person that asked me to be on a song that I couldn’t be more honored to do,” the “Lose You To Love Me” singer said. “The song’s fun, I hope people like it. That’s all I want.”

Rema will be hitting some festivals this year. He’s on the roster for Broccoli City Festival next to names like Brent Faiyaz, Jazmine Sullivan, and Lil Uzi Vert. He’s also on the lineup for Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival alongside Bob Dylan, Lil Nas X, and Sam Smith.
