Chilli Responds To Usher Over Rejected Marriage Proposal: Report

Usher’s recent interview with PEOPLE, published Thursday (February 15), saw him reflect on the heartbreak of TLC signer Chilli turning down his hand for marriage after years of dating back in 2004. However, according to the outlet’s reportedly close source to her, she doesn’t really see it as that big of a deal. Moreover, the publication claimed via this alleged source that the 52-year-old vocalist “is unbothered by the recent hoopla involving her past relationship.” It’s unclear exactly what that means, and whether or not the Super Bowl halftime performer should feel good or bad about that statement, but it seems like it’s all just a thing of the past and doesn’t warrant any old wounds opening back up.

“I was her number one fan, and she was my superstar,” Usher told PEOPLE. “At the age of 8, I put her poster on my wall and said, ‘Man, that girl is so beautiful. One day, I’m going to meet her.’ I was a young man, and she had very specific rules that didn’t work for me. We were missing each other.

Usher has a lot to celebrate these days: a new album, a Super Bowl halftime show, a new wife, and so much more. He recently spoke to PEOPLE for a cover story to unpack much of this, and also to look back on his legendary career and notable life trajectory leading up to this point. Moreover, the Dallas native might be in a pretty great place right now, but it wasn’t always like this, especially back when he was young and in love. During this interview, he reflected on his three-year-long relationship with TLC’s Chilli, who broke his heart when she rejected his marriage proposal.

“I was a young man, and she had very specific rules that didn’t work for me,” Usher told the publication. “I wanted to marry her, I proposed and she said to me, ‘No,’ I went through a great deal of pain after that. Not trusting women or wanting to open up. I hurt her too, but the situation broke my heart.” Given that even his ex-wife Tameka Foster went to the Super Bowl to support her former flame, we can at least assume that he can still keep up amicable and healthy relationships with his exes despite their history.

For example, upon his return to Atlanta, he got the city’s Phoenix Award for his service to it, got a spot of the Black Entertainment and Music Walk of Fame, and Fulton County recognized February 14 as “Usher Day.” “Atlanta is a city of belief,” he remarked during the award ceremony. “Atlanta is a city that allowed me to be that Phoenix to rise. It is a city that has allowed me to have the tenacity to go out and share this culture that I found when I was here.”

According to him, the experience was nothing short of great, and even reminded him how much he misses his own mom.

In a new clip, a man is seen standing in the aisle of the plane, waiting for his partner to leave the restroom so he can pop the question while Boosie films. Boosie was so moved by the whole thing that he decided to offer up his services, mostly free of charge. “I’m coming to the wedding and performing! Put me on,” he shouted at the man. “I’m performing at your wedding. No charge. Just take care of my flight.” After a few seconds, the woman finally exited the restroom, though she didn’t initially grasp what was happening.

Eventually, she caught on once she saw various other passengers filming her, and said “Yes.” Immediately, the whole flight burst into applause, cheering on the happy couple. “Ohhh, I got chills!” Boosie noted. It’s unclear whether or not they actually exchanged information to line a performance up, but either way, Boosie appears happy to have been a part of the exciting moment. The New York City Council recently proposed to make Jay-Z’s birthday, December 4, a holiday for the metropolis known as “Jay-Z Day.” Moreover, it came through council member Farah Louis in Resolution 849 in early December of last year. “December 4 as Jay-Z Day announces to the world how this Brooklyn son can be all things including loved by his community,” she remarked, according to AllHipHop. “In the spirit of celebrating hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, establishing an annual celebration to recognize a homegrown hero while proclaiming our municipal support is fitting to designate. Our resolution is an emotional, practical banner raised. Jay-Z has shown the resilience to beat the odds, self-admitted errors, and has developed mechanisms to create opportunities for others. As always, he has done this work wearing Brooklyn and NYC on his heart.”

Furthermore, TMZ recently asked Big Daddy Kane about this potentially national initiative for Jay-Z on Friday (January 5). “I think it’s real cool,” he remarked to the outlet. “You gotta understand: hip-hop is a culture. A music culture. And now, it’s a genre that people shun down upon, look down upon, and when you see that it can grow billionaires, it can become a multi-genre where there’s different forms of hip-hop. He proposed to the “Barbie” rapper at an LA Rams game, seemingly revealing his intentions to commit to her for the long run. During a recent conversation with Jason Lee, however, he suggested otherwise.

After news of their engagement hit the internet, Blueface’s ex Chrisean Rock almost immediately weighed in. She claimed that the rapper only proposed to Jaidyn to make her jealous, even stating that the ring was originally meant for her. Blueface denies this, claiming that instead of trying to upset her, he was simply trying to make Jaidyn happy.

This was a huge development that led to a whole lot of backlash.

For instance, many of the people who have been watching this saga have called Blueface’s move a “publicity stunt.” Even Chrisean Rock has made this claim. In her eyes, he is doing this just to hurt her. Furthermore, she believes that Blue also wants to help promote his new label. It is a pretty bizarre situation, to say the least. During a recent interview with Power 106, Blue spoke candidly about what the big moment was like for him, especially now that he’s helped Alexis become a rap diva in her own right after she failed to support him early on in his career.

“That s**t was like burning a hole in my pocket,” the 26-year-old confessed. “I showed her mom the day before… That was just more clarification to go through with it. It was definitely nerve-wracking,” Blue admitted, despite feeling confident that Alexis would say yes. “I don’t know if I’m supposed to give a speech, which knee I’m supposed to get on. Like, is there a certain etiquette?” the father of three reflected on his aversion to formalities. “It felt like my first show again.”

Rita Ora Proposed To Taika Waititi

In a recent interview with Vogue, Taika Waititi and Rita Ora shared some new details of their low-key wedding, as well as their nontraditional engagement. According to the filmmaker, his songstress wife turned the tables on her now-husband, proposing to him instead of the other way around. As one does when Rita Ora proposes to them, he claims that he agreed right away.

“She proposed to me, and I said ‘yes’ instantly,” the New Zealander explained. He also shared that Ora popped the question only a couple of weeks before they officially tied the knot. It all went down in the summer of 2022, during their vacation together in Palm Springs. They then went on to hold a very small ceremony at their LA home in August of that year. “There were about eight people there — just close friends and family, and parents on Zoom,” Waititi recalled.

The pair also shared some never-before-seen photos from their wedding day with the outlet. “I wore my mum’s pearls that she got married in,” Ora explained. “My sister walked me down the aisle, and it was just really simple and blissful and calm and private and fun.” She went on to reveal that her and her husband have had a blast with fans’ speculation. “It’s actually been quite entertaining for us to see the different stories people made up and all the while getting to keep it to ourselves,” she says. “And, I love that we now get to share what really happened—and to do it on our one-year anniversary, no less.” The couple seemed to appreciate the perks of their understated ceremony, as weddings are known to be pretty stressful.

“Yeah, it was beautiful,” Taika says. “Just having close friends and not having it too big. We didn’t have table settings or any of the stressful things that go along with weddings, and it was nice to just have it super-simple. My daughters were there, and they made everything really fun and easy: I think just because we didn’t have the pressure of having caterers and all of these things, you know, people turning up late, and all of the different moving parts.”
