Victor Wembanyama Has Monster Game Against Portland

Victor Wembanyama produced the first 30/5/5/5 game by a teenager in the NBA in a monster night for the Spurs. The French superstar rookie finished the night with 30 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 7 blocks as San Antonio snapped a five-game skid. Furthermore, Wembanyama’s star night game against fellow high-flying prospect, Scoot Henderson. “It’s always important to me to play against great players, especially players my age,” Wembanyama said after the game. “His length alone is just weird, it’s like he hovers over you. You can’t really feel him or bump him off because of his length,” Henderson said of playing against Wembanyama.

The win, just San Antonio’s fifth of the season, showed what a team built around Wembanyama was capable of. “We were never stopping the ball, always moving and sharing it. The defense, we were all locked in on the shifts. We had a lot of deflections, especially in the first half. It’s details, but when you get it all together, this is what it looks like,” Wembanyama said.

Jersey From Victor Wembanyama’s NBA Debut Sells For Over $700K

Wembanyama is averaging 18.8 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.2 blocks a game in a stellar start to his NBA career. Despite the Spurs’ struggles, the hype on Wembanyama remains high. The jersey from his NBA debut has sold for $762K, nearly eight times the estimated price. The auction, handled by Sotheby’s, opened last week and closed yesterday with an anonymous bidder coming away with the one-of-a-kind item. Of course, the price tag is nowhere close to the record set by Michael Jordan‘s 1998 Finals jersey ($10.091M). However, it’s an amazing price for the jersey of a player less than 20 games into his NBA career. Furthermore, it did set a new record for the sale of an NBA rookie debut jersey. The all-time record for a full rookie uniform was set in 2021 with the sale of Kobe’s rookie kit.

A major contributing factor to the auction, which reportedly drew 62 bids alone, is how Wembanyama has gone from strength to strength over the course of his young career. Of course, Wembanyama is no ordinary rookie. The Frenchman has been professionally in the well-regarded French league since 2019. While many European players come to the NBA with prior professional experience, few have that experience at the same level or hype as Wembanyama. By comparison, two-time MVP Nikola Jokic, who played three years in Serbia before the NBA, was a mid-second-round pick in 2014.

B.G. Rat Chain Proves His Disdain For Snitches

For those locked up in prison, coming back home after serving a sentence can feel even better than Christmas Day. Cash Money artist B.G. has been living his best life following his 11 years in prison for firearm possession and conspiracy to obstruct justice, though Wack 100 was raising eyebrows earlier this week with allegations of snitching. “At first, I was feeling some type of way,” B.G. shared in an interview after hearing the allegations. “But, you know, the n***as who opinion matters reached out to me. Because I’ve been paying attention to this internet and this internet a fool. This s**t a beast, you heard me?”

After that conversation, the embattled artist had more to say while streaming on Instagram. On Thursday (December 29), B.G. markedly showed off his new chain, which showcases a rat resting peacefully in a coffin. “This my new little ice that I had to pull out. Snitches’ lives don’t matter,” he said to those tuning in. “You want to how this — open casket. That’s the rat in the casket. Casket closed.”

B.G. Continues to Deny Snitching Allegations

As HipHopDX notes, B.G. was also previewing even more new music in the background of his stream. After spending over a decade behind bars, it’s no surprise that the 43-year-old has so much to say when he hops in the booth. His most recent solo effort is “Get Back,” which landed in November. Before that, we heard B.G. on “Yonce Freestyle” with Sexyy Red and Kevin Gates, as well as the New Orleans Remix of Maino’s “For My City.”

B.G. has been staying seriously booked and busy since his return home from prison earlier in 2023. One of his most recent musical releases comes in the form of a Gucci Mane collaborative album, which also boasts a rare feature from C-Murder on “Project Baby.” Check that out at the link below, and tap back in with HNHH later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Happy 50th Birthday To UGK’s Pimp C(RIP)!

pimpc

Houston Hip Hop legend Pimp would’ve turned 50 years old today

Born Chad Lamont Butler on this day in 1973 in Port Arthur, Texas, Pimp C emerged into the Hip Hop scene with his partner Bun B to make the Underground Kingz (UGK) one of the greatest rap groups to come out of the Dirty South and undoubtedly the best rap duo from Texas.

In his illustrious three-decade-long career, the Pimp released nine UGK albums, six full-length solo albums, and even a posthumous book Sweet Jones: Pimp C’s Trill Life Story by Ozone Magazine owner Julia Beverly, which dropped this past summer.

Pimp C lost his life on December 4, 2007, from an overdose of promethazine syrup, which is called “lean” on the streets, in West Hollywood, California. He passed just weeks shy of his 34th birthday. Even though his physical presence is gone and sorely missed, many artists still pay homage to Sweet Jones through his music and dedication to his of their own music.

RIP PIMP C!!!

What Did Trina Say About Beyoncé?

Trina‘s got the internet in a tizzy thanks to a recent interview in which she handed Beyoncé a very specific and unexpected title (it’s mostly Nicki Minaj stans overreacting, but still). In an interview with HipHopDX (a fellow subsidiary of Warner Music Group), Trina called the Renaissance singer the “No. 1 female rapper when she does rap.” Now, this isn’t the hottest take — after all, I wrote a list of Beyoncé’s 10 best rap songs earlier this month and left QUITE a few potential songs off. But, of course, some people (the Barbz) are always going to take offense to differing opinions.

After catching wind of the backlash, though, the Miami “p*ssy rap” pioneer refused to back down, posting a response on her Instagram Story calling out those who attacked her for speaking her mind. “For the dusty crusty funky b***hes in the bacccckkkk,” she wrote. “Beyoncé is the queen of rap (when she raps) and ALL other genres of music. Now stay mad goofy’s I said what I said and NANN b***h gone check me. Carry on.”

She followed up with a post — on the grid, so you know it’s serious — in which she continued to read the haters for filth. “I rlly don’t give a rats ass how anybody feel, I said what I said,” she wrote in the caption. “that’s the Queen Bey and I’m gonna STAN on that! Beyonce is the Queen of rap (when she raps) and ALL genres of music when it comes to me ‼ go argue with the IRS or somebody else idc.”

Well then.

That’s high praise coming from someone who could well be considered one of rap’s biggest trailblazers (seriously, the fact her name isn’t mentioned with the Latifahs, Kims, and Missy Elliotts of the world is a crime against Hip-Hop 50, but we see the agenda). She’s got a point about those slow news days too. But if this comment actually has you bothered, feel free to pick up a copy of The Motherlode and learn some hip-hop history before 2009.

Let me know if there are any artists or songs I should check out,” he wrote on X. Obama’s picks include “American Has A Problem” Beyoncé ft. Kendrick Lamar, “My Love Is All Mine” by Mitski (looks like someone’s been on TikTok), “Cast Iron Skillet” by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, and “Cobra” by Megan Thee Stallion.

“Road To Freedom” by Lenny Kravitz

“Me & U” by Tems

Earlier this year, Obama was asked by comedian Hasan Minhaj whether he takes any shortcuts with his year-end lists. “People, they believe the books and the movies, but the playlists, they somehow think — and this is mostly coming from young people like you,” the former president explained. “Somehow, y’all think you invented rock and roll. You invented hip-hop. And so the fact that my lists are pretty incredible, people seem to think, ‘Well, he must’ve had some 20-year-old intern who was figuring out this latest cut.’ No, man. It’s on my iPad right now!”

I’m not calling Obama a liar, but what 62-year-old dad doesn’t put a single Rolling Stones song on their list? Just saying.

When chronic marijuana lover Snoop Dogg announced that he was giving up smoking, jaws around the world collectively dropped. However, fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the news had nothing to do with his longtime herbal habit. Instead, he was lending his likeness to smokeless outdoor fire pits.

Yesterday (December 28), Snoop took to social media to spark up some special bud. Given his decades-long smoking history, there isn’t much Snoop hasn’t experienced. But lighting a joint designed after himself was a hilarious first for the weed crusader.

“They done smoked this n**** down to a tee, this Snoop Dogg blunt,” laughed the rapper in a video shared on his official Instagram page. “Whoever rolled this for me, thank you, cuh. We are smoking the sh*t out of this muthaf*cker to end the new year. Wow. Head blown.”

Fans in the comments let the weed jokes fly in the comment section.

“Y’all took that to da head,” wrote one follower.

Top 23 of 2023: Diddy’s Flood Of Sexual Assault Allegations

Diddy

At No.1, Surviving Diddy emerges as SOHH’s Top Moment of 2023, a saga that shook the music industry with its shocking revelations. After the hip-hop mogul’s ex-girlfriend, Cassie, filed a 35-page lawsuit against him, opening a can of worms.

1. The Downfall of Diddy

Diddy Steps Down From REVOLT

At the center of it all is Diddy, the rap mogul, and his alleged abusive behavior toward Cassie, his former partner. The story gained momentum when R&B singer Cassie filed a lawsuit on November 17, 2023, accusing the Bad Boy CEO of decade-long physical and sexual abuse.

As the lawsuit went public, it sparked outrage and condemnation against Diddy, leading to his “downfall.” From stepping down as Chairman of REVOLT to business setbacks, Diddy’s empire began to crumble.

EXPOSED

Cassie’s lawsuit against Diddy shook the industry, exposing the dark side of their relationship. She revealed shocking details of abuse and control, leading to a quick settlement of $30,000,000 after 24 hours of the filed suit.

However, this settlement only opened the floodgates for more accusations against Diddy, coming from various industry insiders who had experienced his toxic behavior.

One individual who spoke out against the music mogul after Cassie’s lawsuit was Tiffany Red, Cassie’s best friend. In an open letter published in Rolling Stone, Red detailed the abusive behavior and control Diddy had over Cassie. She highlighted the extent of the manipulation and painted a picture of the toxic dynamics within their relationship.

‘ENOUGH IS ENOUGH’

Adding to more allegations, the rap mogul also endeavored to address the accusations following his fourth lawsuit, which claimed that he sexually assaulted a 17-year-old in 2003. He ultimately denied the allegations in his long-awaited statement, declaring, “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.”

As Surviving Diddy gained traction, Diddy’s professional life also faced significant setbacks. He stepped down as Chairman of REVOLT, the network he had founded, which shocked his followers and the music industry. Moreover, his e-commerce platform, Empower Global, crumbled, with multiple businesses dropping out, due to a flood of sexual allegations against him.

5. Queen Bey’s ‘Renaissance’ Era

While Surviving Diddy took the top spot in 2023, Beyoncé also had a stellar year. Her “Renaissance” era dominated the music scene, capturing the attention of fans worldwide with her talent and artistry.
