A Brief History Of Chief Keef & True Religion Jeans

Fake Trues, that’s that sh*t I don’t like,” Chief Keef rapped on his breakout hit, “I Don’t Like.” His brand has been synonymous with True Religion from the jump. As the iconic denim brand regained its footing in hip-hop, Chief Keef helped re-introduce them as a staple. Sure, True Religion locked in its legacy in the rap rockstar era, thanks to Jim Jones, but it was Chief Keef who made it fly for the youth coming into the 2010s.

Over a decade later, Chief Keef and True Religion have joined forces for their second collaboration. Under the Chicago rapper’s brand, Bad Weather, they launched a capsule collection that fuses their distinct styles harmoniously. So, with that in mind, it’s worth reflecting on Chief Keef’s relationship with the legendary denim brand.

Planting A Seed For The True Religion Collaboration

References to True Religion have been scattered across Chief Keef’s catalog, from songs like “I Don’t Like,” and, of course, “True Religion Fein.” The latter, featuring Yale Lucciani, made it abundantly clear that his appreciation for True Religion became an obsession. “True Religion Fein” appeared on Back From The Dead and on the cover, the rapper donned the brand’s clothing blatantly.

“I made that one when I had finally got some money, some chedda cheese,” he told Complex in 2022 about “True Religion Fein.” “I used to go buy all True Religion with all my money. I’d just buy all the True Religion jeans, True Religion shirts. I used to even buy the True Religion girl’s shirts sometimes because they were so hard. I used to just buy so much True Religion I decided I should make a song.”

The brand wasn’t necessarily a staple in Chicago fashion at the time but it definitely spoke to the local hustlers in the city. “You’d see the fly girls wearing it. You’d see the fly boys wearing it. Not too many people had it in Chicago, but I don’t know. I just became a big fan of it, seeing the style of the jeans,” he explained before detailing its sentimental value. “I wanted to be fly. So, it made me a fan of True Religion. My first True Religion fit was actually from my friend. He passed away, but I had worn his True Religion fit to my first show. I had the full fit, the jean jacket and the jean pants.”

A Decade Of Sosa: True Religion x Finally Rich

His impact on the True Religion brand is undeniable. In fact, a lot of the Glo Gang merch took inspiration from the brand’s colors and designs. So, when the 10th anniversary of Finally Rich and Back From The Dead came around, it only felt appropriate that the two connected for a collaboration. True Religion enlisted Chief Keef to design his capsule to celebrate the milestone, and the rapper’s personality was written all over it.

Though Chief Keef’s early music had a grim tone to it that derived from his experiences growing up in Chicago, there’s no doubt that his visual aesthetic has a fun and nostalgic childhood feel to it. His collection with True Religion included designs with flames, bubble letters, and cartoon skulls. “What inspired it is really just how I am, kinda fun. The colors, I like stuff like that. If you’ve seen my brand Glo Gang Worldwide, if you look at that stuff, you’ll see how fun and colorful it is. We got the sun and the moon. I just like fun stuff. That’s just how I am,” he explained to Complex. The rapper added that he designed everything for this collection himself.

True Religion X Bad Weather: Collaboration No. 2

Two years later, Chief Keef reunited with the denim brand. This time, it was a collaboration between his brand, Bad Weather and True Religion. Coming off the heels of a widely impressive year, which included the release of Almighty So 2 – an AOTY contender – and his first homecoming show in Chicago at Summer Smash this past weekend, the Bad Weather x True Religion keeps the rapper’s momentum high. However, it’s not just about propelling his career. The past few years of witnessing how his influence has trickled down to a new generation has sparked a desire to fulfill his potential as a leader in hip-hop.

“I wanted to bring my vision to life so my fans can really feel it,” Keef told Complex of the campaign. “Directing the photoshoot was like painting a picture of what this collection means—raw, real and revolutionary. It’s not just about the clothes, it’s about making a statement and pushing the culture forward. I’m hyped for everyone to see what we’ve put together.”

Ultimately, it’s a representation of his impact. “Pieces feature co-branded hardware, heavyweight fabrics, vintage dyes, and unique textures, paying homage to the brand’s history while signaling future growth. A standout feature is the double pockets, inspired by Chief Keef’s early days of stacking his True Religion Jeans. This collection merges past influences with contemporary creative, creating something truly unique. The collection includes t-shirts, denim vests, jeans, bandanas, and a beanie that embody Chief Keef’s style. Lekan Is Keeping The Faith With ‘So You Know’ Ahead Of Opening For Tems On Her World Tour

Lekan interview image
apftss/Merle Cooper

“I consider this EP to be a very beautiful introduction to me – both sonically and creatively, and how I process things like love, heartbreak, and joy.”

The future is looking very bright for Lekan. The Columbus, Ohio-born singer is just a few days removed from the release of his debut EP So You Know, and in less than three months, he will begin a nine-show run as an opener for Tems on her Born In The Wild World Tour. It’s been a long time coming for the singer who brought his talents to Los Angeles, where he is currently based, with the goal of achieving all his music dreams. So You Know and the Born In The Wild World Tour are the beginning moments on that journey.

Fresh off the release of So You Know, Uproxx caught up with Lekan to discuss his gig as an opener on the Born In The Wild World Tour, his So You Know EP, and more.

What was your first reaction to hearing that you’ll be an opening act for Tems’ Born In The Wild World Tour?

I for sure screamed [laughs]. Outside of that, I was just super grateful because when you getting somewhere, you never really know what that actually looks like. So when you get somewhere to that extent and to that platform, you’re just thankful for never really giving up. I’m just grateful for the opportunity.

What helped you stay patient in the time before your breakout “Need Somebody?” How did you remain confident that your moment was coming?

The work. I knew that the work that I was doing was just eventually going to have to be seen because I wasn’t going to stop. I knew the work that I was putting out was quality, it was just only a matter of time until the world would figure it out. I just kept doubling down on just quality work and it would speak for itself.

What was the moment that you realized things were changing for the better?

It’s really interesting because a lot of stuff that the world is starting to figure out, is something that like I feel like I was showing a long time ago. I’ve always say where it started to really changed for me was when I moved to LA. That was really when it started changing for me. From there, I was just like nothing’s ever gonna be the same. So I just kept making sure [that] I put myself in position to be aligned with like-minded individuals who could see my vision, could see my life, and could prioritize me to help me make this into a thing. It only made it easier because I would just want to run with them.

For the tour with Tems, what are you most excited for and what are you most nervous about?

I’m not nervous. I truly feel like I’m just gonna keep doing what I’ve been doing, if anything, just do at times 10. I have no fear about that because it’s just something that I’ve just been doing. What I’m most excited about is to be able to really see the people, to see the real time interactions with new fans or even just supporters that came out to see me. Seeing what that actually looks like, seeing the actual impact of these records in real time, watching people actually singing along, the experiences that I’m going to have along the way in different environments, and then also sharing that with my childhood best friend who produced the title track who’s gonna be on the right side of the stage with me for every show. That’s what I’m most excited about.

What do you hope fans takeaway from hearing So You Know and seeing you perform from it?

I just want them to be sonically introduced to me. I want them to know that I care about the music, the craft, and the advancement of this of the sound to see how much it can really impact people. I was blessed with a gift to be utilized when it comes down to music, but I just want people to understand that it really also just stems from taking initiative, having faith in something bigger than you, but also yourself. None of this stuff is happening without confidence. So, just take that, run with it, and apply that within their own system.

Bongo ByTheWay is your right-hand man in your career so far, I feel like he’s to you what D’Mile is to Lucky Daye. How did this relationship start and what makes him the perfect collaborator for this point of your career?

It’s really helped, honestly. You can come to the table and then you just see what someone else can also just bring to the table, as well. He’s someone that had accolades and just experience walking into this. For me personally, it was dope to see someone who looked like me, as far as like Nigerian American just out here really making a name for himself. When him and I started to work together, he just affirmed me. He was just one of the first people to really put his arm around me and really be like, “Nah, he’s the one,” and just affirm me, really believe in me, and push me ultimately. He definitely pushed me and got a lot out of me. I’m really grateful, forever indebted to how he just did that off of discernment, honestly. He could have handled it in so many different ways, but he did the right things in handling it. I’m grateful for the relationship that him and I have built.

You once tweeted that you have to listen to Kendrick Lamar’s “The Heart Part 2” and The Kurt Carr Singers’ “For Every Mountain” or your days feel weird. What are some other things that are key to your routine? Especially before a show.

Before a performance, I always got to listen to jazz or Anita Baker — just certain things that keep me in such a very mellow mode. It’s a lot of noise, you just got to be able to find your way to stand firm and find your own little process of things that you need to do to keep you firm within whatever’s going on. Also family, I always gotta talk to a loved one of mine every day. If it’s not all of them, it’s one of them for sure. I have to do that.

What song on this project do you think speaks best to your artistry and the experience can best define you by?

If I had to choose, I would say “Change.” That’s one thing that is solely just me which is something that I wanted to highlight. I felt like it was a very important part of my process for people to understand. I do stuff like that all the time, I have albums-worth of like stuff like that. It was just really important for me to make sure that the world understand the identity, the texture, the intentionality, [and] the care, that stuff takes a lot of time. It might be probably 8/9-hour sessions for just to do that one song. It’s definitely nothing light, it’s definitely not nothing easy. Yeah, I think that something that I would like for the world to really understand like, “Okay wow, this dude’s sound is… he definitely cares about trying to push the sound.”

If there’s one word that could describe the last year for you, what would it be? And what do you hope the next year brings you?

This year, I would say is affirming. It’s been affirming to everything that I’ve always believed, everything that God has always shown me, everything that I’ve always known to be true, which is that I could do anything that I put my mind to through Christ that strengthens me. Every time I gotta circle back bro because I could say that I’ve done everything on my own strength and put myself in position, but there’s a lot of stuff that is just simply based off of His favor and based off of me being faithful to focus on what He was showing me when it didn’t look like it. So, I guess affirming will be this season [and] this year and then next year will be faithful. Just continue to stay faithful to the craft, faithful to the grind, [and] faithful to the goal which is to inspire the masses. What comes with that is just gonna come with that, and it’s gonna be a lot, but I’m only just gonna get stronger to be able to withstand it.

Kai Cenat Calls Tyla For North West’s Birthday Celebration: Watch

Kai Cenat is one big ball of contagious energy and positivity. The streamer has become quite the pop culture/social media figure due to his persona. Unfortunately, even though he emits radiancy from every pore, people online are going to find something to nitpick. This time it had to do with The Bronx, New York native helping celebrate the birthday of North West, who just turned 11. Due to the bash being in New Jersey, he was able to pull through, as the daughter of Kim and Kanye cited that Kai is her favorite streamer. Some angry trolls on social media were getting on the 22-year-old due to the age gap between the two.

Instead of letting the criticism slide, Kai Cenat fired right back at the haters. “I am North’s favorite streamer bro, okay? So, yesterday, all she wanted to do was meet me, bro. That was it. Literally. So, anybody who’s making it weird like, that’s the weirdest thing ever”, he asserted. “We had a great time yesterday. She’s great, bro. She has a good group of friends around her, like, everything was great”.

Cory Gunz has always possessed great flow patterns and clever one liners throughout his long and steady career. The East Coast spitter might not be your go-to for hits and bangers. Kendrick Lamar Stream Botting Accuser Allegedly Debunked After Sharing “Proof” Of Payment

Kendrick Lamar is about a month and a half removed from his feud with Drake. However, there are many Drake fans who have simply not gotten over their artist’s loss. If you were to watch a DJ Akademiks stream, you would note that the commentator has tried to find new angles on how Kendrick is actually the loser in all of this. Overall, one of the angles that some have gone with is this notion that Lamar has been stream-botting on both Spotify and YouTube.

Last night, Akademiks had an individual on his stream who claims he was paid off by Kendrick’s team to increase his streams by 30 million. How much was the man paid for all of this? $2500 apparently. Soon after making his allegations, fans asked for proof. They subsequently got it in the form of a Zelle transaction screenshot in which the man received $2500 from Anthony Saleh LLC. For those who may not know, Saleh is Kendrick’s manager. However, according to XXL and some internet sleuths, this screenshot could very well be a fake.

Kendrick Lamar Continues To Get Accused Of Botting

As XXL and some commenters noted, Anthony Saleh LLC is not a real registered LLC in any of America’s 50 states. Although it could be an unregistered LLC that sent the payment, there are still plenty of holes that can be poked in the story. For instance, $2500 seems low for what is being asked. Moreover, the song is already a smash hit and doesn’t exactly need the boost in streams. Needless to say, fans are not buying the story right now, and they will need more proof before that changes.

Let us know what you think about all of this, in the comments section down below. Do you really believe that Kendrick Lamar was out here viewbotting? Or do you think that the man on Akademiks’ stream was simply looking for some type of clout? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite artists and their upcoming projects.

Bow Wow 7 Essential Songs

Bow Wow burst into hip-hop at a remarkably young age. Discovered by Snoop Dogg and nurtured by Jermaine Dupri, Bow Wow, real name Shad Moss, made his debut at just 13 years old. He quickly established himself as a prodigious talent. His youthful charisma, lyrical skill, and energetic performances earned him a massive following and a string of hits that solidified his place in music history. Bow Wow’s journey from a teen sensation to an influential artist has been marked by significant milestones and memorable tracks.

Over the years, Bow Wow has transitioned from a child star to a versatile artist, actor, and television personality. He has an innate ability to evolve and remain relevant in a constantly changing entertainment terrain. His music reflects this growth, with each album and single capturing different phases of his life and career. Bow Wow’s discography offers a comprehensive look at his artistic development from his early days of playful, youthful anthems to more mature and introspective tracks.

1. Bounce With Me (2000)

Bow Wow burst onto the scene with his debut single, “Bounce With Me,” featuring R&B group Xscape. Released in 2000, this track was the lead single from his debut album, Beware of Dog. 3. Take Ya Home (2001)

Bow Wow continued to dominate the charts with “Take Ya Home,” a hit single from his second album, Doggy Bag. 4. Let Me Hold You (2005)

In 2005, Bow Wow helped craft a timeless hit with “Let Me Hold You,” a smooth collaboration featuring Omarion. From his album Wanted, this track marked a significant departure from his earlier, more playful singles. It reveals a more mature and polished sound. “Let Me Hold You” climbed to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming one of Bow Wow’s biggest hits. The track’s success was fueled by its catchy chorus and relatable themes of love and companionship, making it a favorite among fans. The song’s success was also reflected in its chart performance. The track’s success was undeniable, reaching No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and securing a spot in the Top 10 on various other charts. The “Shortie Like Mine” music video set in a high school further amplified its appeal. This collaboration bolstered Bow Wow’s status as a hitmaker and demonstrated his keen sense for partnering with other top-tier artists to produce chart-topping tracks.

7. Outta My System (2007)

“Outta My System,” featuring T-Pain and Johntá Austin, is a standout track from Bow Wow’s 2007 album, The Price of Fame. This song marks Bow Wow’s more introspective and vulnerable side, addressing themes of heartbreak and regret. The collaboration with T-Pain and Johntá Austin added a melodic and emotional depth. Further, the song’s poignant lyrics reflect on the end of a relationship. Bow Wow expresses his struggle to move on and get his former lover “outta his system.” The sincerity in his delivery, combined with T-Pain’s signature Auto-Tuned vocals and Johntá Austin’s smooth harmonies, created a powerful ballad. “Outta My System” struck a chord with fans, peaking at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming a staple on R&B and hip-hop playlists. The accompanying music video further emphasized the song’s emotional narrative, depicting Bow Wow grappling with memories and the pain of lost love. The video’s storytelling and Bow Wow’s heartfelt performance resonated with viewers, adding to the song’s impact.

Pusha T & No Malice Premiere Clipse Track With John Legend During Louis Vuitton Show

Pusha T and No Malice premiered a new unreleased song with John Legend during a fashion show for Louis Vuitton in Paris on Tuesday. It features an orchestral string section as well as a beautifully sung hook from Legend. It’s the second time the two have premiered unreleased music at the brand’s shows since Pharrell took over as creative director.

When the NFR Podcast shared the track on X (formerly Twitter), fans were stoked to hear new music from the duo. “This slap!! And LV got some [fire emoji] outfits here,” one user wrote. Another added: “Clipse reunion has finally happened!” Others theorized that a new Clipse album may be dropping this year, which is something Pusha has confirmed is possible.

Push previously discussed the possibility of a new Clipse project after debuting an unreleased track at last year’s Louis Vuitton show. “I really would hope so,” Push told PEOPLE. “I really would love to, man, I really would love to. At this point I feel like we’ve been in a space a lot together lately, and in those spaces the creativity’s just been flowing. So that’s where you get songs like you heard at the [Louis Vuitton] fashion show. Really what we’ve been doing a lot of it is just contributing with our friends. Like, ‘OK, Pharrell’s a creative director of LV, he needs music for the show.’ How would we not show up for that? How would me and my brother not show up for a Nigo album? I think the creativity between us and just the collective of the family that everybody knows where this started from, is something that you can’t just stop.”
