Jim Jones And HitMaka Comes Together To Release ‘Back In My Prime’ EP

Screen Shot 2023 02 17 at 8.53.30 AM

After a successful 2022, the Harlem hero Jim Jones teams up with producer HitMaka for their EP Back In My Prime. The eight-track project displays Jim’s ability to adapt his sounds to the ever-changing times in hip-hop culture.

The stand-out singles “Gunshot” featuring BEAM and “I Am” featuring Stefflon Don prove their musical chemistry.

“YKTV” featuring Ty Dolla $ign shows Jim rapping in a graceful manner. He opens the song with lines reflective of his failures leading to success. He raps, “I’m trying to leave my son a legacy, for my dogs I’m trying to leave a better pedigree… So many nights I slept in a crack den, I done took a bunch of L’s trying to stack M’s”. Jim’s mature cadence compliments his signature fly talk where he talks of having his lover covered in “furs dragging like a broken exhaust” and flooded with jewelry on her neck.

Back In My Prime is what happens if Harlem: Diary of A Summer was a wine aged by eighteen years. The beats are smoother and the maturation of Jim’s storytelling and cadences packs a stronger punch than his 2005 run in music. Rather than what the title of the EP implies, Jim is entering into a new prime at this point of his career.

TRACKLIST:

  1. “Gunshot” feat. BEAM
  2. “FU Better” feat. Jeremiah
  3. “Bet It All” featuring Benny the Butcher and Trav
  4. “YKTV” feat. Ty Dolla $ign
  5. “First Plug” feat. Pleasure P
  6. “Let It Go” feat. Tink & Ball Greezy
  7. “Status Update”
  8. “I Am” feat. Stefflon Don

Rihanna dazzled in the Super Bowl 57 halftime show. The show was aided by famed TV producer Jesse Collins, who revealed the two felt pressure to follow up the Hip-Hop show of the year before featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and more.

“She’s a lot of fun, very cool, never stressed. Just like, ‘All right, I’m going to go do this real quick.’ The pressure never got to her. She just was in it from day one, and really warm and let everybody have fun with it,” Collins said to The Hollywood Reporter.

He added, “I think there’s always pressure with this show. You work so hard, six months for 13 minutes. [This was] an opportunity to work with a global superstar and her re-entry into music.”

Ultimately, Collins felt Rihann’s “vision was executed.”

By now, you know that Rihanna is pregnant. Making her performance at the Super Bowl halftime show even more epic.

Rihanna opened the show in a red jumpsuit, diving into a performance of “Bitch Better Have My Money” on a levitating stage, with her baby bump poking through. After the intro, Rihanna dived through a range of hits, including “Only Girl (in the World),” “We Found Love,” “S&M,” “Rude Boy,” and “Work.”

Grammy-winning Hip-Hop legend Diamond D‘s sixth studio album The Rear View serves as an ode to his own legacy and resilience. The official music video for the album’s opener “Life Is What You Make It” is a reflection of the rapper/producer’s ability to enjoy the fruit of his labor over the course of an influential and storied career. Shot over the course of 72 hours between Atlanta, Portugal, and Dubai, the RemoFilm-directed video plays out over scenes of Diamond D’s travels, and just released via YouTube.

‘Life is what you make it’ symbolizes living the best life you can live knowing that you control your own destiny. The more you grind, the more you’ll be able to do the things you enjoy and travel to the places you want to see so I wrote a song that celebrates that. Tomorrow is never promised, we have a choice…you can sit around and be content with what you have or strive for more for the betterment of yourself and your family.. Either way, life is what you make it.” – Diamond D

Screen Shot 2023 01 30 at 1.17.45 PM

Multi-Platinum rapper/producer Vic Mensa has shared his first new song of the year, a soulful-rap love jam entitled “Strawberry Louis Vuitton” via Roc Nation. The single, which features vocalist and bass virtuoso Thundercat along with R&B songstress Maeta on additional vocals and instrumentation, arrives alongside an awe-inspiring music video in which Mensa skydives in a custom recreation of a Virgil Abloh suit while playing guitar, serenading a female companion who awaits his arrival on the ground. “I made Strawberry Louis Vuitton while watching one of Virgil’s last LV films; the one with Saul Williams,” states Vic. “When I heard the sample it just spoke to me, so I chopped it, made the beat, and wrote the song on the spot. It was really a freestyle. I always imagined Thundercat doing the bridge… we recorded it when he was on tour and I was doing my art show in Chicago. When Virgil passed away I kind of felt like he had given this song to me; the gift that keeps on giving, in a way.” Vic Mensa has stated that he’s been working toward a new project, and “Strawberry Louis Vuitton” sets the bar high for what his fans should expect from the Grammy Nominated artist as Mensa not only produced the track, but co-directed the video as well. Vic will be performing the song accompanied by Maeta and Phony Ppl this Wednesday on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
