YSL First Lady Karlae Drops ‘Did That’ and ‘Blind’ Ahead of Upcoming Project

clip image001 1

Karlae carries the title of YSL First Lady title high with her latest release “Did That.”

The track samples Mase’s hit song, “Feel So Good,” taken from Kool & The Gang’s “Hollywood Swinging.” As one of the heirs of Bad Boy Records, King Combs even makes a cameo in the video as well.

Karlae is fresh off the heels of last month’s release, “Blind.” The Lil Yachty assisted single displays Karlae’s versatility as she sings the hook and raps over Murda Inc sampled “Down 4 U.”

The video shows Karlae as a school girl, while Yachty plays her classmate and love interest.

The ATL-based artist first stepped onto the scene with a cameo on the YSL compilation, Slime Language. It was followed by the Young Thug and Gunna assisted single, “Jimmy Choo.” Last year the label released its sequel to the compilation, Slime Language 2, where Karlae shined on both “I Like” with Coi Leray and “Trance” with Yung Bleu.

Karlae’s previous works puts the momentum in her favor for what’s to come on her forthcoming EP, Enter.

The estate of Phife Dawg has released Forever, his long-awaited posthumous album. The record was released by AWAL, on the sixth anniversary of his passing

“I am really excited for Phife and his legacy. I know he is somewhere smiling and reading the credits and staring at artwork,” said collaborator/Executive Producer Dion “Rasta Root” Liverpool.

Phife Dawg’s wife Deisha Taylor added, “We are overwhelmed with excitement about the release of Malik’s album. We’ve waited 6 years for this, so our joy is boundless.”

The four-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated multiplatinum New York-born MC and member of A Tribe Called Quest spent time working on the album, collaborating with trusted colleagues, and amassing a repertoire of songs emblematic of his art before his untimely death in 2016. He painstakingly crafted a selection of songs that were distinguished by his trademark verbal fireworks, funny adlibs, biting social commentary, and unexpectedly introspective confessions. His Estate is ready to disclose his pure vision and final word as a solo rapper, with the approval of his family and his most loyal collaborator and business partner, Dion Liverpool (Executive Producer), under their imprint Smokin’ Needles Records.

“When I think back on first discovering Bone Thugs-N-Harmony as a child, it immediately stood out to me as unique,” Saba said of Bone Thugs n Harmony. “I started paying attention and really learning how to rap from listening to them and trying to recite it. It felt honest and completely true to themselves — authentic in a way that doesn’t come around very often and in a way that will be impossible to recreate. Their mix of melody and rhythms that I had never heard is what connected with me in a way that other music just didn’t. It inspired me to be more creative.”

Steelo Brim Releases Debut Project ‘Eldorado Excursions’

Steelo Brim Releases Debut Project 'Eldorado Excursions'

Eldorado Excursions, Steelo Brim’s debut effort, has been released. The new release follows Steelo’s journey from the heart of Chicago’s Westside to the bright lights of Los Angeles, where he pursued his childhood goal of working in music. Eldorado Excursions features from Fabolous, Buddy, Arin Ray, BJ The Chicago Kid, Chuck Inglish, Dej Loaf, Leon Thomas, Vic Mensa, Problem, Nomad P, and more.

“1996 was the year music and I met, I mean yeah, I had listened to gospel and oldies around the crib since I was a baby, but ’96 was the first time we REALLY connected,” Steelo said. “We met in my Dad’s Cadillac he had got at the First Federal Auto Auctions on 63rd & State. I thought that shit was HARD. A caddy back then represented success. That plus my Dad’s new 6 CD changer showed me his crazy selection in music. D’Angelo’s Brown Sugar, Brownstone, Sam Cook, Teddy P – it set the tone. This project is me taking the vibe back to the backseat as I rode on a weekend to Franklin.”

Steelo’s therapist encouraged him to finish something he’d always wanted when quarantine forced him to slow down and look inward, so he began this musical and creative adventure. Steelo considers these albums to be “sessions,” as he was inspired to start making songs by his therapist.

You can listen to Eldorado Excursions and watch the “My Love” video featuring Buddy and Arin Ray below.
