Fashion Icon Vera Wang Honored By DKMS At 18th Annual Gala For Fight Against Blood Cancer

DKMS, the most significant non-profit organization in the world to fight blood cancer, welcomed supporters to its 18th annual gala on October 17th at New York’s Cipriani Wall Street. The black-tie event raised $4.7 million in essential funding for DKMS’s global lifesaving work. The evening’s honoree was pioneering fashion designer Vera Wang, recognized for her many years of dedicated support for DKMS and her exceptional contributions to the organization’s mission.

The gala featured a performance by Grammy Award- and Golden Globe award-winning singer and actress Andra Day (The United States vs Billie Holiday, “Rise Up), with an auction hosted by comedian and actor Mario Cantone (Sex and the City, The View, The Masked Singer).

Notable guests included fashion designer Marc Jacobs, supermodels Niki Taylor and Coco Rocha, MSNBC President Rashida Jones, broadcaster, entrepreneur, and global ambassador for Rimmel London Maya Jama, iHeartMedia CEO Bob Pittman, and hairstylist/entrepreneur Frederic Fekkai. Inspiring on-stage remarks were delivered by Katharina Harf, DKMS Global Chairman, and Peter Harf, DKMS Founder.

Gala guests experienced a moving, on-stage moment of gratitude when Brooklyn St. John, an 11-year-old blood disease survivor from Kansas, was introduced to her lifesaving stem cell donor, Justin Bradshaw. Brooklynn and her family’s lives were upended by a sudden diagnosis of severe aplastic anemia that nearly took her life. Last night, Brooklynn and her mother finally had the opportunity to thank her genetic twin, a firefighter paramedic, and father of two from Texas, in person with a hug.

Honoree Vera Wang shares, “I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from DKMS, an organization whose lifesaving mission has always inspired me. The courage and resilience of patients and donors alike are a reminder of the immense power we hold when we come together to fight blood cancer. It is a privilege to support DKMS’s incredible work, and I hope that through continued efforts, we can give even more people a second chance at life.”

GloRilla Receives “Key To Fashion Week” At New York Fashion Week Festival

The Model Experience (TME) hosted another spectacular fashion and music festival in New York on September 13th and 14th at the Armory Arena. A major highlight of this year’s NYFW event was a performance by chart-topping phenom GloRilla.

Phaedra Parks Poised for Triumphant Return to’Real Housewives of Atlanta’ After Six Year Absence

Phaedra Parks is making her return to “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” after a six-year hiatus. The TV personality announced her comeback to the Bravo reality series on Instagram on Monday. 

In her surprising post on the Gram, Parks shared a top tier pic of herself stepping off a jet plane while holding a peach in her left hand, symbolizing her return to the show. Well, we see you Phaedra. Period. 

Here’s how Ms. Parks captioned the big announcement: ”You called. I answered 🍑#RHOA #S16,” Parks captioned the photo.

Let’s take ya’ll back , Parks initially joined “RHOA” in its third season in 2010 and remained a cast member until the end of Season 9 in 2017. During her time away from “Housewives,” she appeared on Bravo’s “Married to Medicine,” starring in the show’s milestone 10th season alongside Jackie Walters, Simone Whitmore, Toya Bush-Harris, and Heavenly Kimes.

Her triumphant return to “RHOA” comes in tumultuous times for the arguably one the top reality dramas on the small screen. After the recent departures of cast members Kandi Burruss and Kenya Moore, she steps in to a lot of bad blood and thick air, if you get the drift. 

Bravo, is still leading the way with docudramas, and RHOA is currently filming its 16th season/ Announced in May the newest season will see the return of cast members Porsha Williams, Shamea Morton Mwangi, and Drew Sidora who will be joined by newcomers Brittany Eady, Angela Oakley, and Kelli Ferrell as full-time peach holders. Congrats on the promotions for the full-timers, let’s hope they bring the heat that Kenya undoubtedly left when she got the axe. 

Oh and get this, former “RHOA” personality Cynthia Bailey will return as an official friend of the group. We need some of her confidence back on-air. We don’t know about ya’ll but we’re psyched for this new season. Welcome back Phaedra.

Champion’s ‘No Permission’ Collection Exhibit Lights Up Brooklyn Museum

On Tuesday, May 7th, 2024, the Brooklyn Museum became a hub of creativity and nostalgia as Champion unveiled the next chapter of their “Champion What Moves You” global brand campaign with the “No Permission” Collection. This one-day-only exhibit celebrated Champion’s influential role in streetwear fashion and its commitment to fostering the next generation of creators.

Champion, known for its iconic blanks used by early designs from Supreme, Pyrex Vision by Virgil Abloh, Kith, BAPE, and Stussy, honored this rich history by showcasing these brands’ original works. These brands famously used Champion’s garments without seeking permission, contributing to the brand’s legendary status in the streetwear world.

The exhibit did not only look back but also forward, featuring designs by emerging creators who embody the no-permission ethos. This collection inspired attendees to pursue their creative visions without constraints, aligning with Champion’s legacy of unbridled creativity.

Guests at the event were treated to an interactive experience. They received Champion blanks and had the chance to customize their own designs on-site, embracing the spirit of DIY fashion that Champion has long supported. This hands-on activity allowed attendees to connect with the brand’s history while contributing to its future.
