SZA and Victoria Monét are among those who have earned the most nominations for the 2024 ceremony, airing Sunday, February 4 on CBS and Paramount+. Their many nominations show that R&B’s flourishing scene is not going unnoticed. The R&B categories at the Grammys have undergone many changes within the past few years, but one award that has remained constant since the 1960s is Best R&B Song. Today, we are taking a deeper look into the 2024 Grammy nominees for Best R&B Song. Let us know in the comments who you think should win.

Coco Jones – “ICU”

Coco Jones has had an impressive 2023, and her multiple nominations at the 2024 Grammys only solidified her position as a rising star. Jones is in the running for Best New Artist, as well as almost every award in the R&B category. The former Disney star’s platinum-selling and breakthrough hit single “ICU” is nominated for Best R&B Song. It is a standout track from her breakout EP, What I Didn’t Tell You, which is also up for Best R&B album. The slow and soulful ballad showcases Coco Jones’s lower register and vulnerable passion. “ICU” has established the Tennessee-based singer as one of R&B’s most promising voices. While also nominated for Best R&B Performance, it makes a strong case for Best R&B Song.

Halle – “Angel”

Halle Bailey has kept herself busy with acting throughout the year. However, she still managed to release her debut single as a solo artist. “Angel” is an R&B song, containing elements of gospel. The track makes quite an impression as her debut single, especially after her pivot towards acting and seeing her sister and musical partner, Chloe start her own solo journey. It also displays her skillful range as a vocalist. Chloe x Halle had previously been nominated for three awards at the 2021 Grammys, but “Angel” is the first nomination for either sisters’ solo career.

Robert Glasper Ft. SiR and Alex Isley – “Back To Love”

While successful within the Jazz realm, Robert Glasper is well-established within the R&B world. He is also no stranger to the Grammy Awards. Since 2010, the pianist and producer has been nominated a total of 12 times, winning five Grammys. At the 2021 ceremony, Glasper took home the award for Best R&B song “Better Than I Imagined,” featuring H.E.R. and Meshall Ndegeocello. That same category is one of the two 2024 Grammys that he is in the running for with his song, “Back To Love” featuring SiR and Alex Isley. The track comes from the soundtrack of the STARZ series, Run The World, which Glasper scored alongside Derrick Hodge. “Back To Love” marks the first Grammy nomination for SiR and Alex Isley.

SZA – “Snooze”

With more than any other artist, SZA secured nine total nominations, including three of the major categories: Album of the Year for SOS, as well as Record and Song of the Year for “Kill Bill.” The Grammy nomination for Best R&B song is one of many for the New Jersey-based superstar. She is also in the running for almost every award in the R&B category. Few artists have had the year that SZA has, with a sold-out arena tour and her biggest album to date. SOS is the first R&B to spend 7 weeks atop the Billboard 200 since Whitney Houston’s 1987 self-titled album. It is also the longest-running No. 1 female album of the decade.

“Snooze,” the SOS highlight and sixth official radio single, is in the running for Best R&B Song. The downbeat ballad is smooth and heartfelt as SZA soothingly sings about putting her all into a one-sided relationship. Prior to the upcoming 2024 Grammys, she had been nominated 15 times. Her only win so far is the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Kiss Me More” with Doja Cat.

Victoria Monét – “On My Mama”

Also leading with multiple nominations is Victoria Monét. She is up for 7 different awards, including Best New Artist and Record of the Year. These are her very first Grammy nods as an artist, with her previous nominations being for her songwriting. Fresh off the release of her debut album and one of 2023’s best releases, Jaguar II, Victoria Monét dominates the R&B category. Up for Best R&B Song is her hit single “On My Mama.” Spotlighted by an excellently choreographed music video, the empowering yet joyful anthem is Victoria Monét’s highest charting single to date, reaching No. 58 on the Billboard Hot 100. “On My Mama” is a strong contender for Best R&B Song among the other nominees at the 2024 Grammys.

Overall, the 2024 Grammy Nominees have already led to a lot of debates on social media. Of course, this always happens whenever the Grammys roll around. People want their favorites to get nominated. In 2024, that is not going to be an exception. Below, you can see a tweet from Chart Data that reveals the projects up for nomination. On the hip-hop and r&b side of things, the most obvious nom is SZA for S.O.S. We also got Janelle Monae for The Age Of Pleasure which is certainly really nice to see.

SZA Leads The Way With The Most Grammy Nominations, “Kill Bill” Nabs Song Of The Year Nod

SZA’s major 2023 is continuing with new recognition from the Grammys. Late last year she dropped her highly-anticipated new studio album SOS which instantly became a smash hit. The album sat on top of the Billboard 200 for weeks after it was released and spawned some of the singer’s biggest hits to date. Subsequently, her track “Kill Bill” took off immediately and lasted in the top of the charts for months including a week atop the Hot 100. As soon as its momentum began to slow down it was replaced in the top 5 of the chart by another single, “Snooze.”

Now, she’s at the very top of the list of Grammy nominees. She’s officially the most nominated artist at the 2024 Grammys, racking up a total of 9 nominations. Her nominations include Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Pop Duo Performance, R&B Performance, Traditional R&B Performance, R&B Song, Progressive R&B Album, and Melodic Rap Performance. In particular, she cleaned up nominations with her album SOS and her mega-hit “Kill Bill.

SZA Scores 9 2024 Grammy Nominations

Perhaps most notable of all her nominations is Song Of The Year. The nomination is for “Kill Bill” which has been quite an impressive critical darling. That’s on top of also being one of the biggest hits of the year. She’s joined by artists like Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, and more in the list of nominees.

This isn’t the only critical recognition that SZA has received recently. Earlier this week, Variety honored the R&B star’s massive year. They awarded her the title of 2023 Hitmaker Of The Year. SZA has also been atop the Billboard R&B Songwriters Chart all year. Her series of hits in the wake of SOS have kept her at the top spot on the charts for over 50 weeks. Drake Drops ‘For All The Dogs’ Merch Line

Drake Drops 'For All The Dogs' Merch Line

Drake is now letting you take For All The Dogs along with you in fashion. Hitting Drake Related, The Boy released merch items for the album, including t-shirts and hoodies. Dropping on his birthday, an Instagram message accompanying the release reads, “More life, more everything. Happy Birthday to The Boy.”

Drake’s For All The Dogs took the No. 1 spot on Billboard behind a 402,000 first week in sales, according to Luminate. The album is Drake’s 13th No. 1 and the fourth-largest total of the year for an album.

For All The Dogs‘ songs were streamed 514.01 million times, the largest streaming week of 2023 for any album and the fourth-largest ever. Drake holds the distinction of holding four of the top five spots for the largest streaming ever.

Drake is now behind JAY-Z as far as No. 1s. Hov has 14, and the chart leader is The Beatles with 19. Taylor Swift is behind Drake at 12.

In other Drake album news, nearly two years after he removed Certified Lover Boy from Grammy consideration, Drake is ready to put his best foot forward with Her Loss.

According to Billboard, Drake has submitted his collaborative album with 21 Savage to the Album of the Year and Best Rap Album categories. In addition, “Rick Flex” and “Spun Bout U” have been added to the record of the year, song of the year, and other considerations.

According to Variety, Drake withdrew his 2022 Grammy nominations almost two years ago. Drake and his management reportedly decided, and the Recording Academy honored his request. There was not direct reason for wanting to be removed.

Drake’s Certified Lover Boy was nominated for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance for “Way 2 Sexy,” which featured Young Thug and Future.

The Recording Academy will not add a replacement for Drake, instead opting to move forward with just four nominees in those categories.

The year before, Drake spoke out against the GRAMMYs while supporting The Weeknd.

“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artist that exist now and the ones that come after,” he wrote in his Instagram Story. “It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just won’t change their ways. The other day I said @theweeknd was a lock for either album or song of the year along with countless other reasonable assumptions and it just never goes that way. This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up overtime and pass on to the generations to come.”

Drake Posts “Yeat Carry” T-Shirt, Uses Grammy As A Doorstop

Drake unveiled his latest project For All The Dogs yesterday, and as expected, it’s jam-packed with high-profile features. The album includes appearances from J. Cole, SZA, Lil Yachty, Bad Bunny, and more. One track even features a verse from 23-year-old performer Yeat. The collab didn’t come as too much of a surprise for fans, as Drake’s shown love to the California-born musician in the past. Last month, Drizzy shared a shot of Yeat on his Instagram Story, which many fans thought was a hint that he’d be on For All The Dogs.

He also got listeners talking when he gave Yeat a shoutout on his It’s All A Blur tour over the summer, putting him up on the jumbotron. The social media sleuths were proven right when the project dropped, and Yeat was featured on the track “IDGAF.” Drake took to his Instagram Story once again last night, giving the artist a bit of a shoutout ahead of his Toronto performance. He shared a photo of a man rocking a black t-shirt, complete with the phrase “Yeat Carry” written in white. The post seems to be a nod to Yeat and Drake’s haters at the same time, and commenters appear to think it’s pretty amusing.

Elsewhere on his story, Drake also shared a photo from what appeared to be his dressing room. The hitmaker was sure to flex his Grammy in the post, using the coveted award as a doorstop. The move is a nod to his new track “First Person Shooter” with J. Cole, in which he raps “I told Jimmy Jam I use a GRAMMY as a door stop.”

Jon Batiste Net Worth 2023: What Is The Grammy Winner Worth?

The jazz-rich boulevards of New Orleans played host to the early rhythms of a young prodigy, Jon Batiste. Born on November 11, 1986, Batiste’s early dalliances with the piano keys would soon turn into profound symphonies that would captivate global audiences. He didn’t merely play music; he lived it. Emerging from a lineage steeped in Louisiana’s music tradition, he was destined to bear the torch forward. By 2023, not only has Batiste become a celebrated maestro, but CAknowledge also reports his net worth to be a cool $6 million.

Jon’s journey from the bayou to the Big Apple is the stuff of legends. Enrolling at the revered Juilliard School was about mastering notes and understanding the spirit behind each melody. His ensemble, Stay Human, became more than just a band – it was a call to reconnect, to feel, to be in the moment. Their brand of “social music” bridged genres, generations, and geographies.

Many remember Batiste’s effervescent presence as the bandleader on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. This wasn’t just a gig but an institution of musical education for the masses. Through his performances, mainstream America got schooled on jazz, blues, funk, and the indomitable spirit of New Orleans.

Batiste’s artistry isn’t restricted to one medium. From collaborating with the likes of Prince to composing for Pixar’s Soul, his creative genius knows no bounds. His album “WE ARE” is more than just music; it’s a rich tapestry of sounds, stories, and histories, showcasing his versatility and depth. Further, music, for Batiste, is a tool for change. He’s been at the forefront of social justice movements, playing in protests and amplifying the voices of the marginalized. His melodies are not just for entertainment; they’re anthems of resistance, hope, and unity.

Charting the trajectory of Jon Batiste requires more than just looking at accolades and albums. It’s about understanding the man behind the keys, the soul behind the sound. In a world often bereft of genuine connection, Batiste’s music, activism, and sheer joie de vivre serve as a resounding reminder of the transformative power of art.
