AI Generated Drake And The Weeknd Song Deemed Grammy Eligible

Earlier this year quite a stir was created in the music industry by the presence of artificial intelligence. In April of this year, an AI-generated song using Drake and The Weeknd‘s vocals began to make waves online. It was called “heart on my sleeve” and was uploaded to YouTube by an artist named Ghostwriter. While fans were impressed by how accurately AI could recreate the voices and writing styles of both artists, it did bring up plenty of questions.

One of those questions was about its copyright status. Universal Music Group responded to the song calling it fraudulent and imploring fans to side with artists over AI. Eventually, they did win out as the original upload of the song was removed from YouTube. But it did open up plenty of debate as many other AI songs popped up in its place. Even artists like Meek Mill took the opportunity to praise the track saying that he had been listening to it a lot since it first dropped. Check out the song below.

Drake And The Weeknd AI Song Could Be Nominated For A Grammy

Now, even more, interesting news has emerged in regard to the song. Apparently, the artist behind it submitted the track for Grammy consideration and the award show deemed it eligible. While that’s no guarantee that it will actually secure any nominations, its acceptance opens the door for more AI music to possibly be submitted in the future.

“heart on my sleeve” even has the potential to be the only representation for The Weeknd at the upcoming Grammys. He hasn’t released a new album since 2022’s Dawn FM. His best bet to score a nomination is likely through either the soundtrack to his HBO show The Idol or his collaboration with Ariana Grande on the “Die For You” remix. Drake is much more likely to score a nomination with his collaborative project with 21 Savage Her Loss serving as a dark horse candidate for Album Of The Year. What do you think of the AI-generated Drake and The Weeknd song being ruled eligible for the Grammys? Let us know in the comment section below.

Drake Poked Fun At The Grammys During Lil Wayne Tribute At 2023 Recording Academy Honors

The Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective honored Lil Wayne, Dr. Dre and Missy Elliott with the Global Impact Award (now called Dr. Dre’s Global Impact Award). Many celebrities and revered artists emerged to honor each of the artists. 2 Chainz, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Ciara, Swizz Beatz, Chloe, 2 Chainz, Kurupt and more appeared on stage where they celebrated the legacies of the three artists.

Drake wasn’t physically present but he recorded a short video expressing his gratitude and love for Lil Wayne. But first, he addressed the elephant in the room – his long-standing beef with the Grammys over the past seven years. Since 2016, the Canadian rapper basically embarked on a one-man boycott of the Grammys. Despite his record-breaking success, he refuses to submit anything to the award show. “Good evening, Grammys. Well, I haven’t gotten to say that since 2016,” Drake began, per the Hollywood Reporter.

“Lil Wayne…I love you so much,” he continued. “I know I probably get annoying with saying how much you mean to me and my family, but I think I speak on behalf of everybody when I say that our careers, our cadences, our melodies, maybe our face tats or our outfits or our decisions in general would not have been the same without your natural gift to just be yourself.”

During Lil Wayne’s speech, he reflected on the significance of his award coming from a place like New Orleans. From his humble beginnings in Louisiana, he became the biggest rapper in the world. “I want you all to know that I don’t get honored,” he said. “Where I’m from, New Orleans, you’re not supposed to do this.”

Though the award intended to celebrate Lil Wayne’s career, he reflected on how music impacted his home life. His stepfather passed away when he was a child and at 14, his mother asked him for a kid since he was touring. For the most part, he dedicated his speech to his mother and the mothers of his children.

“And her son had just blown up and went on his first tour. When I came home she said, ‘Son, I can’t live in this house by myself. We’re going to have to figure something out,’” he recalled. “I’d like to thank Antonia Johnson [Reginae Carter’s mother] for reasoning with me and my mom, and my life. I’d like to thank every single one of my kids and every single one of their mothers.”

Following Wayne’s speech, Tyga hit the stage for a performance of some of the Young Money boss’s biggest hits to date. However, Wayne will hit the stage this weekend for the Hip-Hop 50 segment at the Grammys.

Trevor Noah on YE’s GRAMMY Performance Cancellation: “I Said Counsel Kanye Not Cancel Kanye”

Kanye West won’t be performing at the GRAMMYs despite being nominated five times. Reported reasons include his social media antics, some of which target the show’s host and comedian Trevor Noah.

Hearing about the cancellation, Noah hit Twitter and delivered a statement: “I said counsel Kanye not cancel Kanye.”

Ahead of the cancellation, Noah spoke on The Daily Show about YE’s recent actions toward his ex-wife Kim Kardashian. “Over time, Kanye has become more and more belligerent in how he tries to get Kim back,” Noah said. Later in the segment, Noah added, “There’s an element of a woman saying to her ex, ‘Hey, please leave me alone.’”

Following Noah’s segment, Kanye called the host a “koon,” leading to an Instagram suspension and the subsequent cancellation of his GRAMMY performance.

Kanye West has yet to speak on the cancellation, but The Game has.
