On September 28, the Great Lawn in New York City’s Central Park will play host to the 2024 Global Citizen Festival. The event is coming into shape with the headliners announced today, June 18: Doja Cat, Post Malone, Jelly Roll, and Rauw Alejandro lead the way, while additional performers are set to be announced.

The event is set to be hosted by Hugh Jackman (a Global Citizen Ambassador), while Jane Goodall and Coldplay’s Chris Martin (the latter being the Global Citizen festival curator) are expected to appear.

There are two main ways to get tickets. There’s a general on-sale that begins today at 10 a.m. ET via Ticketmaster, or you can earn free tickets by “taking action” through Global Citizen. More information is available on the event website.

Doja said in a statement (as Billboard notes), “It’s been a few years since I was last on the Global Citizen Festival stage in Paris, and I’m excited to join forces with Global Citizen once again in Central Park this September to drive as much action as we can to make the world a better place. We all have a part we can play to help end extreme poverty and stand up for equity. I’m looking forward to being part of this major evening of positive change.”

A statement from organizers also notes, “The hunger crisis continues to grow, infectious diseases are still spreading, debt is on the rise, and last year was the hottest on record. Meanwhile, governments everywhere are reducing their contributions to foreign aid, with more than half of G7 countries having proposed cuts this year. Despite the emerging gap between what the world needs and what seems politically possible, the plight of the world’s most vulnerable communities is more urgent than ever. This is a critical year for the global community to support frontline organizations, invest in lifesaving solutions, and act today, to save tomorrow.”

Jungkook Performs “Seven” With Latto At Global Citizen, Reveals Release Date Of Jack Harlow Collab

BTS member Jungkook was one of the main draws on day one of Global Citizen Fest. With numerous members of The ARMY filling Central Park, the BTS star shone in his solo set. During his performance, Jung thanked the throngs of fans for coming out despite the rain in NYC. He also gave fans a special guest when he brought out Latto to perform their hit collab, “Seven”. “Wow, that was a nice surprise, right?” Jungkook said at the song’s end. Latto said to him, “Thank you, JK. Shout out to the ARMY!”

“Seven” was one of the hits of the summer. The unapologetically horny and catching song spent a week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and hit number one in various other countries around the globe. However, fans were also treated to a tease about Jungkook’s next solo endeavor. His set ended with a cryptic visual of his name next to the word “3D”. However, The ARMY didn’t have to wait long for more information.

Get ready to meet an even more mature side of Jung Kook following ‘Seven (feat. Latto).’ Jack Harlow has featured in this track, bringing his unique rap style and adding zest to the song,” read an official note on South Korea fansite Weverse.

“3D” drops on September 29 at midnight ET. Hours before the reveal, Harlow had tweeted “I’ll fly u from Korea to Kentucky” as he seemingly hinted at the collab. Furthermore, BIGHIT Music also shared clips from the “hero film” (short music video promotions) for the song. However, neither of them feature Harlow and only focus on Jungkook himself. Megan Thee Stallion And Lauryn Hill Headline Global Citizen Fest

Global Citizen Fest just announced its lineup for the 2023 edition of the New York City festival. Among the headliners are two familiar names for rap fans one old and one new. Rap legend Lauryn Hill is set to perform, as is one of the biggest names in the genre today Megan Thee Stallion. They’re headlining alongside California alt-rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers. Elsewhere in the lineup are artists like pop singer Conan Gray and the K-Pop group Stray Kids.

The news comes in the middle of a relatively slow year for Megan Thee Stallion. Musically speaking, she hasn’t released any new material so far in 2023. Last year she dropped Traumazine, her second studio album, to critical acclaim. The album featured fellow hitmakers like Future and Latto as well as rappers like Key Glock and Ric Nasty. The album was preceded by hit songs like “Plan B” and “Sweetest Pie” with Dua Lipa. It also spawned a new hit for Megan with the hip-house bop “Her.”

The biggest story for Megan Thee Stallion so far this year is one that has continued to follow her for years. All the way back in July of 2020 Megan was reportedly shot in the foot by rapper Tory Lanez. The resulting court drama lasted for years until he was ultimately convicted of all counts late last year. His sentencing hearing has been delayed multiple times. Once he is ultimately sentenced he could face more than 20 years in prison for the incident.

Despite Megan’s well-documented evidence and the court ruling, some still don’t believe her side of the story. Recently DJ Akademiks found himself in hot water for once again questioning the narrative. Thankfully after testifying in the case Megan seems to have put the incident behind her and has spent 2023 playing a number of major shows. What do you think of Megan Thee Stallion and Lauryn Hill headlining this year’s Global Citizen Fest? Let us know if you plan to attend the festival in the comment section below.

SZA Rents Out A Theater For Fans To See ‘The Woman King’ In New Jersey

The Woman King is proving to be one of the buzziest films of the year, as well as one of the most critically acclaimed. One of the film’s biggest supporters is SZA, who took to Twitter today to share that she rented out a theater in New Jersey.

“PLEASE GO SEEE ITTTT !,” she said in a tweet.

SZA herself won’t be at the theater, as she is performing at the Global Citizen Festival in Ghana. But no matter where she is, she is always looking to give back to New Jersey. Last year, she partnered with TAZO and American Forests to plant trees in neighborhoods affected by environmental racism.

“My grandma lives in Newark, N.J., and there are no trees anywhere,” SZA said in an interview with Elle last year. “Growing up around that area was definitely a downer.”

Viola Davis first discussed The Woman King earlier this year, during an interview with Oprah, which premiered on Netflix this April/

“Looking at all these young women who are a part of this story, I’m telling you, I see the future in a lot of these young girls,” she said. “The confidence they have, the work ethic they have, it made me feel so proud just looking at how they showed up every day for work, how they understood the assignment.”

Billie Eilish, Chloe x Halle, Coldplay, And More Sign Global Citizen’s Letter To End Extreme Poverty

Billie Eilish, Coldplay, Charlie Puth, Shawn Mendes, Chloe x Halle, and 5 Seconds Of Summer have signed Global Citizen’s new open letter to end extreme poverty, which is part of its 2022 campaign. It calls for “breaking systemic barriers that keep people in poverty” and “empowering young women and girls across the world,” demanding that global leaders focus on these urgent issues, especially climate change.

Other celebrities who signed the letter include Adam Lambert, Alessia Cara, Alok, Bill Nye, Billy Porter, Camilo, Cathy Freeman, Connie Britton, Criolo, Cyndi Lauper, DJ Cuppy, Duran Duran, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Femi Kuti, Finneas, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness, Lali, Lang Lang, Made Kuti, Måneskin, Muzi, Nancy Isime, Nile Rodgers, Nomzamo Mbatha, Padma Lakshmi, Rachel Brosnahan, Ricky Martin, Sabrina Elba, and Tropkillaz.

Eilish in particular is known for her devotion to bringing awareness to climate issues. Next month, she’ll be hosting a climate change seminar in London that will span six days and include fellow musicians like Vivienne Westwood, Girl In Red, Glastonbury co-organizer Emily Eavis, and more. She also had an inspirational ad campaign that addressed how young people can use technology for good by connecting with each other, inspiring grassroots activism, and pressuring large corporations to be more sustainable. “We all have the potential to make a positive impact on our planet, and I’m hopeful our generation will use their platforms to collaborate and communicate and make a difference,” she said in a video.

Global Citizen Shares Fugees’ Reunion Performance Of ‘Ready Or Not’

Wednesday night, September 22, marked the first time in 15 years that the iconic hip-hop band Fugees reunited to play a live show ahead of their highly-anticipated 25th anniversary tour for their album The Score. Performing at the New York rooftop venue Pier 17 for Global Citizen Live, video of the event was limited to the very few attendees who were able to sneak in their phones, as the majority of the concert’s patrons were required to slip their phones into Yondr bags for safekeeping.

Today, however, Global Citizen shared one part of the set, a rollicking performance of Fugees’ signature jam “Ready Or Not.” Backed by a massive live band complete with a horn section that got a memorable breakdown toward the end, Lauryn Hill, Pras Michel, and Wyclef Jean sound as though they’ve never taken a break — let alone one that lasted for over a decade and was filled with borderline waspish statements from the various band members about a possible reunion.

The Global Citizen Live concert in New York City also included performances from Billie Eilish, Burna Boy, Camila Cabello, Coldplay Jennifer Lopez, Jon Batiste, Lizzo, Meek Mill, and more.

Billie Eilish, Lorde, And Lizzo Will Headline Global Citizen’s 24-Hour Livestream

In April of 2020, international advocacy organization Global Citizen urged people to stay at home to stop the spread of COVID by tapping some of today’s biggest artists for their Together At Home livestream. Now, Global Citizen is announcing another livestream, this time aimed at urging major corporations and foundations to donate funds to deliver COVID vaccines to the vulnerable and help end global poverty.

Global Citizen Live is a 24-hour livestream filmed in several countries across six continents. Kicking off on Saturday, September 24, the concert will feature headliners Billie Eilish, Lorde, and Lizzo, among others, and take place in cities across the world like Lagos, Rio de Janeiro, New York City, Paris, London, Seoul, LA, and Sydney.

Along with Eilish, Lizzo, and Lorde, some other artists set to perform include Adam Lambert, Alessia Cara, Andrea Bocelli, Angélique Kidjo, BTS, Burna Boy, Camila Cabello, Coldplay, Christine And The Queens, Davido, Demi Lovato, DJ Snake, Doja Cat, Duran Duran, Ed Sheeran, Femi Kuti, Green Day, HER, Hugh Jackman & Deborra-lee Furness, Keith Urban, Lang Lang, Metallica, Rag’n’Bone Man, Ricky Martin, Shawn Mendes, The Lumineers, The Weeknd, Tiwa Savage, Usher, and more.

In a statement about Global Citizen Live‘s mission, Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans detailed the devastating affects of COVID across the globe:

“COVID-19 has drastically reversed the progress toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals pushing upwards of 160 million people back into extreme poverty. There are now more than 40 million people on the brink of famine. Progress on climate change has halted, as the majority of the Fortune 500 fail to set science-based carbon reduction targets. We must rectify the damage done and hold world leaders and businesses accountable for ensuring that the entire world recovers from this pandemic together. ‘Equitable recovery’ is not an act of charity — it is the only way we can ensure a fighting chance at achieving a sustainable world free from extreme poverty.”

Echoing Evans’ statement, The Weeknd said he’s honored to join the livestream. “It is very important to me to be a part of this historic event to spread awareness and encourage action toward helping the people of Ethiopia during this devastating humanitarian crisis they are faced with,” he said. “It’ll be an honor to perform and help bring support to these citizens who are suffering so severely.”
