Charlamagne Tha God Feels Drake Wrote A “Heartbreak Record” About LeBron James With His Freestyle

No matter what direction Drake decides to go in post beef, he’s getting laughed at and torn down. His latest effort to address his issues with others came in the form of a recent freestyle. It’s apparently called “Fighting Irish,” and its response to everyone he feels has betrayed him in some capacity. Over the last couple of days, there’s been loads of speculation as to who he’s talking about. Some include DeMar DeRozan, J. Cole, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, and even LeBron James. The latter seems to be most obvious of all of them, as Drake appears to be bothered by The King’s adoration for Kendrick Lamar.

His appearance at the Pop Out last summer and him visibly enjoying himself is just one thing that The Boy references. “The world fell in love with the gimmicks, even my brothers got tickets / Seemed like they loved every minute” he raps. These bars and more continue to drive discourse and also some backlash towards The Boy. Many have been calling him soft and feel like he’s going about this in the wrong way. It is a little crazy though to see how people have been waiting for Drake to hit the booth more instead of staying on social media.

It’s Safe To Say That Charlamagne Tha God Isn’t A Fan Of Drake’s Freestyle

Still, his efforts in dropping this track did not appease the haters, further proving that he’s going to remain a court jester for some time. In terms of how critics have been reacting, The Joe Budden Podcast is quite indifferent to final product. Charlamagne tha God and The Breakfast Club are also getting in on the conversation, but it’s nothing too positive.

Overall, Jess Hilarious and Charlamagne are the ones that have issues with it. DJ Envy is more understanding to why Drake has issues with LeBron. However, the others couldn’t help but laugh at Drake’s attempt. Jess and Charlamagne view it is a “love letter” or “heartbreak record” about him and LeBron essentially breaking up. They see it as more of an R&B record and Drake “breaking up with all of his NBA boos in his head.” But Charlamagne even took it a step further saying that Drizzy sounded “g*y” in his approach. This had some fans outraged and fed up with his constant disliking of the Canadian MC.

Mal Suggests That LeBron James Tried To Contact Drake To Smooth Things Over

This Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef has gone beyond just these two heavyweights. Since the latter took the victory last year multiple subplots have taken shape. The most recent one we have are the issues Drizzy has with folks who switched sides on him. He’s especially taking aim at ones that showed their true colors in his eyes during the Lamar battle. These are all people who The Boy considered close friends too but cannot now because of their actions. LeBron James is the most glaring person he’s targeting and discussions about this are still running wild.

He was essentially exclusively addressed on Drake’s most recent freestyle, supposedly called “Fighting Irish.” If this is accurate, it’s even more of a response to LeBron James due his high school’s mascot being that. There’s some speculation as to why this song was leaked when it was, and it seems that the New Rory & MAL podcast has some insights. According to Rory, MAL had revealed in a previous episode that LeBron had played Kendrick’s “man at the garden” at his 40th birthday party due to Drake unfollowing him on Instagram.

Drake Looks Worse If How He Responded To LeBron Is True

MAL surmised that really got under his skin and had this ready to go a “couple” months ago. However, perhaps the most interesting nugget to discuss is that LeBron James supposedly hit Drake’s line. MAL poses that the Los Angeles Laker has attempted to make amends and talk things through. “I believe that LeBron has probably reached out through some avenues directly or however he can to probably have a conversation with Drake,” MAL said.

However, the podcast host believes that Drake isn’t really trying to hear any explanations from anyone at the moment. “This is [his] way of saying, ‘Fam don’t try to hit my line. This is what it is, this is where I’m at. Y’all knew what it was when we was at Mike Rubin’s party. Y’all knew the energy was different, I didn’t speak to nobody.’” MAL continues, “‘This is what it is, it ain’t no beef but we never going to be as chummy chummy and as cool as we were. You picked that side, stay over there.” None of this is confirmed, but fans are running with it and taking the time to clown Drake, and it looks like 2024 could be starting over in 2025.

Houston Rockets Expertly Troll Lakers With Kendrick Lamar Lyric Amid LeBron James & Drake Drama

Hip-hop social media has been feverishly dissecting the recent Conductor Williams-produced Drake freestyle supposedly titled, “Fighting Irish.” Many have been making connections to how this is a potential diss track toward LeBron James. Specific lyrics suggesting this include, “The world fell in love with the gimmicks, even my brothers got tickets / Seemed like they loved every minute.” Then there’s also, “‘Member we traded watches? / I gave you that Arabic dial, you gave me a numbered edition / You would even check up on my son like a pediatrician.” OVO Chubbs even seemed to confirm fans’ suspicions, however, it’s hard to 100 percent say with confidence that LeBron is the only target.

Drake has a lot of enemies, or at least he feels that way, so this could realistically be for anyone and everyone. You can look at it as a calling out of everyone who switched sides on him just because or due to an affiliation with Kendrick Lamar. That latter aspect is key because we have seen Lebron show his love and adoration for Kenny during the beef. Showing up to the Pop Out was a big indicator, but to be fair, Bron has been a fan of Lamar for years.

The Rockets Taunt LeBron James & The Lakers With GNX Lyrics

Drake die-hards have backing him up for going at the Lakers superstar since this dropped and now the Houston Rockets are even getting into the supposed feud. The current second seed in the Western Conference took on Bron and his Lakers Sunday and escaped with a thrilling win. According to ESPN, the home squad led by as much as 22. However, the visitors were just seconds away from tying it up at the end of regulation.

However, a key steal ended the Lakers’ chance to force overtime. Houston would go on to win 119-115 and pulled off some masterful trolling in the process. They’ve clearly been paying attention to what’s been going on with the LeBron, Drake, and Kendrick fiasco because they used the perfect GNX lyrics to celebrate. They did so by referencing the now iconic “tv off” lyric, writing on X, “turned their tv off.” Fans agreed that it was an excellent taunt, and it looks like this story could carry throughout the majority of 2025.

The Joe Budden Podcast Praises And Scrutinizes Drake’s New Freestyle

The Joe Budden Podcast has now reacted to Drake’s new freestyle, supposedly titled “Fighting Irish.” The cohosts discussed this without the program’s titular commentator, as he’s dealing with some legal issues right now that probably have him busy and distracted. Melyssa Ford, Ish, Ice, and company discussed the 6ix God’s new sets of bars, and they had overall praiseful opinions about his lyrical ability. However, what they discussed the most was how this is just one example of how they’ve always liked his music, despite Ish positing that their coverage of the Kendrick Lamar battle was not objective in favor of the West Coast lyricist.

Furthermore, this prompted a discussion around how “Family Matters,” “meet the grahams,” and “Not Like Us” were covered in the media and how the surprise factor of the latter two stepped on any possibility of the Drake track being a hit. Regardless of where you stand on that, The Joe Budden Podcast presented too many narratives for us to really call their coverage unfair or not. After all, much like with a lot of other hip-hop media, their thoughts on the battle were a natural result of the discourse and not anything that they had to force.

The Joe Budden Podcast Talks About Drake’s Freestyle

Of course, that goes both ways, and it doesn’t take away from the fact that both Drake and Kendrick Lamar fans – or rather, a small percentage of them – became absolutely delusional as a result of this beef and can no longer offer an earnest assessment of anything without going full hater or glazer mode. Hopefully for The Joe Budden Podcast‘s next episode, they can go into more detail about the lyrical gems to appreciate about this new Drizzy freestyle.

Much of that discussion revolves around all the people that Drake shaded through his bars, but not every bit of praise for a record has to depend on its shots these days, as much as 2024’s rap beef warped that perception. From a rhyme scheme and sheer writing standpoint, you don’t need to hand him the W to appreciate the solidly creative and impressive moments throughout. Let’s hope 2025 brings more honest narratives to the forefront and that Kendrick Lamar’s dominant win doesn’t prompt more fans to take away from either his or Aubrey’s artistic merits.

Drake’s New Freestyle Has Fans Recalling LeBron James’ Recent Kendrick Lamar Fandom

The crossover between Drake and LeBron James fans grows smaller by the day, as both bases continue to speculate and debate over the former’s new freestyle. It’s supposedly titled “Fighting Irish,” one of various alleged references to the basketball superstar that many see as a shot against him. It makes sense given the overall themes of betrayal, downfall, and switch-ups that dominate the track in both subliminal and direct ways. For those unaware, it’s basically about how Bron and many others supposedly fully turned their back on the 6ix God amid his Kendrick Lamar battle despite having strong relationships in the past.

As such, this has caused many fans to look back at LeBron James’ history with Kendrick Lamar and Drake, two MCs that he’s supported throughout their careers and even during this beef. At least, that was before the battle ended, as by the release of “Not Like Us,” fans already connected the dots and declared that he picked a side. In fact, one of the clips that immediately preceded this freestyle was the Los Angeles Laker rapping along to K.Dot’s “man at the garden” at his 40th birthday, which many fans think sent Drizzy over the edge.

LeBron James Rapping Along To Kendrick Lamar’s “man at the garden” Was The Perfect Prelude To Drake’s Freestyle

Furthermore, the lyrical references on this new Drake freestyle and some of their messages can be interpreted as easily applicable to LeBron James. Given just how many targets are in the Toronto superstar’s orbit right now, though, it’s impossible to know for sure whether or not these bars actually have an intended target or are more general statements. Either way, the 40-year-old made it easy for fans to come to these conclusions, as he attended Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out” concert and showed a lot of love to him in 2024.

Fans React

Meanwhile, at the end of the day, the supposed “Fighting Irish” freestyle indicates an interesting “defeat lap” for Drake, to quote Open Mike Eagle. We don’t even mean that in a negative sense, as from a writing and rhyme scheme perspective, there’s a lot to admire about it. Hopefully fans have the mental energy to give those props as they continue to draw up theories about LeBron James and Kendrick Lamar. But to assume that this supposed allegiance came out of nowhere is a fool’s errand.

Drake’s Hamptons Reference On “Fighting Irish”  Freestyle Provokes J. Cole & Lil Wayne Diss Speculation

Drake is opening up debate this afternoon with his newest release, “Fighting Irish.” The Conductor Williams-produced freestyle made its way online hours ago. However, its believed that the latter or even UMG (who he takes aim at) were who swiftly removed it. But it’s still easy to find on X (Twitter), for example, with tons of users copying and reposting it in the nick of time. The subject matter is what’s driving the engagement right now, as Drake appears to be mentally unloading after a rough (to say the least) 2024. How’s he gone about this is by taking subliminal shots at numerous figures that he feels have betrayed him in the last year.

Whether it be via the Kendrick Lamar beef turning friends into enemies or just in general, he’s going at everyone. LeBron James and DeMar DeRozan are two that seem to be in his sights. In regard to them, Drake refers to the both of them showing up to Lamar’s Pop Out concert. Furthermore, from the sounds of it anyway, there’s a nice chunk of bars that seem to show Drake looking back on him and Bron’s relationship, only for it to fade thanks to K. Dot.

Drake Has Everyone Guessing Who He’s Referring To

However, it’s not just athletes he’s got problems with. Multiple rappers could be in his scope as well. “I guess now you boys gotta abandon your summer tradition / Cold shoulders I gave in the Hamptons, it come with the distance.” These both appear to be a direct reference to Drake’s viral appearance at Michael Rubin’s annual White Out bash he hosts every year at his lavish pad in New York. If you remember a photo of him looking a little too relaxed had everyone saying he looked “aged” following the beef.

A Few Names Seem To Be Sticking

What also allegedly happened at the July party was The Boy purposely avoiding certain guests. His former mentor Lil Wayne was the MC that a lot of folks were assuming was the one he dodged. It’s why this discussion has begun once more with the release of “Fighting Irish.” As you can see, Weezy’s and multiple others, including Jay-Z and J. Cole are also being thrown out there. It’s definitely got everyone guessing who the suspect is, and Drake, as per usual, covered his tracks very well here.

Drake’s “Fighting Irish” Freestyle Seemingly Taken Down By Universal Music Group

Drake just lit a fire under the rap world with his new “Fighting Irish” freestyle produced by Conductor Williams, with fans everywhere diving into his bars with references to the Kendrick Lamar battle and its ensuing rivalries. One of the most high-profile feuds that resulted from this was Drizzy’s war with his own label, Universal Music Group, whom he accused – along with Spotify, iHeartMedia, and others – of allegedly and unlawfully boosting “Not Like Us.” Well, it turns out that this dispute with UMG will seemingly not help him release new music, as the record company reportedly took the freestyle down from YouTube.

Moreover, this is presumably the video on Conductor Williams’ YouTube channel that includes Drake’s new freestyle, which fans noticed got taken down due to what seems to be a copyright strike shortly after it was uploaded. Of course, this didn’t stop many die-hards from sharing the snippet online and spreading it like wildfire. If UMG is behind these takedowns, then we’re sure they will have a very hard time scrubbing all of social media. But then again, it’s a major label, so their power runs quite far.

Drake’s Freestyle Seemingly Taken Down By UMG

Does it run far enough in the direction that Drake’s allegations propose? We don’t know for sure, and we still have to wait for a court of law to hand down a more firm ruling on it. But in the meantime, a lot of new music from the Toronto superstar emerged to kick 2025 off, including three new song snippets. One of them even seems to reference the beef and hopes to move past it, shouting out 21 Savage as one of the few real supporters that Aubrey Graham has.

Maybe these are all just speculative reaches, but will all the dots that Drake fans have connected so far, it doesn’t seem likely. After all, who wouldn’t expect him to rap about the 2024 situation in one way or another? Hopefully more music on the way, like that collab album with PARTYNEXTDOOR, focuses on quality rather than fulfilling this thirst for more feuds. But this freestyle, despite UMG’s alleged actions, marries both philosophies.

Drake Appears To Take Aim At LeBron James & DeMar DeRozan On “Fighting Irish” Freestyle

When Drake drops, everyone listens. That’s been the case once again today as a song titled “Fighting Irish” is currently going viral on social media. It finds him rapping over a dreamy and low-key Conductor Williams beat, reuniting them after collaborating on some cuts from For All The Dogs. However, it’s not simply the fact that Drake is already back in action three days into 2025. It also has to do with some of the bars peppered throughout it. For years, The Boy has portrayed himself as a lone wolf of sorts. “No Friends In The Industry” and “Fair Trade” immediately come to mind.

On “Fighting Irish” he’s doing that and in his usual subliminal matter. He appears to be taking aim at people who once thought were friends of his, but due to the Kendrick Lamar beef he’s seen many switching sides. Two that are possible targets are NBA superstars LeBron James and DeMar DeRozan. Drake has been close with both for different reasons. For James, they just have created a bond over the years with the Canadian rapper going to so many of his games.

Drake Is Once Again Rapping About His Lone Wolf Status In Hip-Hop

As for DeRozan, he was viewed as a brother to Drake. Especially during the shooting guard/small forward’s lengthy stay with the Toronto Raptors. However, at various moments during him and Lamar’s feud, reports were constantly coming out that Drake begun to view the two athletes in a different light. Specifically, The Pop Out concert and the “Not Like Us” music video seemed to be final straws for Drizzy.

Drake’s “Fighting Irish” Freestyle Is Blowing Up

LeBron and DeMar both attended the show and were clearly enjoying themselves with the latter even going onstage. Moreover, the now Sacramento King made a cameo in the viral visual for the West Coast anthem. Drake voiced his strong disgust for DeMar publicly as well during the broadcast of the Kings versus Raptors game, saying that he would pull down the player’s retired jersey from the rafters if the organization decided to hang it up. It’s why bars like, “The world fell in love with the gimmicks, even my brothers got tickets, seemed like they loved every minute,” for example are being viewed as disses.
