Music fans will be able to go to the fifth annual Dreamville Fest in Raleigh, North Carolina in just a few days. J. Cole got this event underway near the precipice of COVID-19 in 2019. Since its inception it has been one of the best festivals for hip-hop fans. This year the two-day event will begin this Saturday, April 6, and go through Sunday, April 7. In 2023 it was a stacked lineup, with Drake and Cole headlining the last day. This time around, 50 Cent and SZA will be the main attractions for Dreamville Fest. Nicki Minaj and Cole will wrap things up the following day.
You may be wondering though, why 50 Cent? Well, the roster had some tweaks made just hours ago. The Dreamville Fest X account sent out a tweet announcing the key changes. “We are excited to share that 50 Cent and Hunxho have been added to the lineup! See you this weekend! Due to unforeseen circumstances, Chris Brown and Muni Long are no longer performing at Dreamville Fest.”
Reasons for the tweaks are still unknown, but some fans are not too happy about Chris Brown not being able to make it. In fact, with the changes being announced on April Fools’ Day, some think its a ruse. “I hope it’s April fool cos I want to see Chris on that stage,” one person says. Another chimes in, “Would’ve preferred if 50 was replacing Nicki instead lol but it is what it is. (this may or may not be April fools but I’m fine either way so )” However, with Dreamville Fest just five days away and with complications like this a normality, this appears to be true.
What are your thoughts on 50 Cent and Hunxho joining Dreamville Fest and replacing Chris Brown and Muni Long? Do you think this is an April Fool’s joke, why or why not? If you do not like 50 and Hunxho making the list of performers, who should they have gotten? Are you going to be attending any of the shows? With the hotter months just weeks around the corner, music festival season is beginning to ramp up. Rolling Loud in Inglewood, California just wrapped up this past weekend with tons of incredible headliners. Lovers & Friends will be taking place at the start of May in Las Vegas. Of course, you cannot forget about Coachella as well, which will kick off the weekend of April 12, while the second run will begin on April 19. Another staple music festival in the hip-hop and R&B community that we have to mention is Hot 97’s Summer Jam 2024.
The famous New York radio station has the longest running event out of all of the ones listed, beginning in 1994. Plenty of legends have headlined it from Nas, Queen Latifah, and Wu-Tang Clan, are just some to name. However, after Hot 97 announced Summer Jam 2024, according to HipHopNMore, fans were very let down by the leading artists. The one-day event will be held at UBS Arena, home of the New York Islanders NHL team, on June 2.
The attractions this year include Doja Cat, Offset, Sexyy Red, Method Man and Redman, Sleepy Hallow, Davido, up-and-coming Brooklyn drill trio 41, and Tee Grizzley. None of these names are really enough to sway the commenters underneath the post from Hot 97. One person says, “@hot97 did ya’ll even try to work on a line up? Who tf in nyc wants to see doja cat take this s*** back to table and redo it.” Another adds, “Ngl just cancel it.” Well then. If you would still like to purchase tickets, they will be available for presale on March 20. General admissions will be ready to buy on Friday March 22 at 10 a.m. on Ticketmaster. Additionally, you can sign up at HOT97.com/summerjam “to be the first buy tickets before it goes out to the public.”
What are your thoughts on Hot 97’s lineup for Summer Jam 2024? Do you agree with fans that these acts are not worth going to see, why or why not? If you are going, who are you most excited for and why? How do you think they could have made it more appealing? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Earlier today one of the biggest hip hop festivals in the world announced their 2024 lineup. Rolling Loud Los Angeles is set to take place in March of next year and now the full roster of performers has been announced. Included are dozens of major artists like Sexyy Red, YG & Tyga doing a joint set, Big Sean, Summer Walker, Don Toliver, Chief Keef, and many many more. The festival is set to be headlined by Nicki Minaj, Post Malone, and Lil Uzi Vert. Or at least that’s what the poster says.
One person who is raising doubt about the lineup is Lil Uzi Vert themselves. The rapper took to Instagram to share the festival poster, which is pretty common for artists when they’re announced for a festival. But Uzi also shared a message that raised some doubts as to whether or not they would actually be playing. “I never said I was doing rolling loud I don’t know why my name is on here @rollingloud,” Uzi’s Instagram story post reads. Check out their response to the original lineup announcement below.
Lil Uzi Vert “Never Said” They Would Play Rolling Loud
Earlier this year, Lil Uzi Vert released their new album Pink Tape. The project became the first rap album of 2023 to reach number one on the Billboard 200. Ever since Pink Tape dropped Uzi has continued to tease even more new music. They’ve reportedly been working with some of Young Thug’s collaborators like London On Da Track with the aim of making a tribute album called Barter 16.
Uzi also teased a new mixtape, the third in their LUV Is Rage series. Despite few updates on the project and even rumors that Uzi was planning on retiring, it’s still being worked on. Uzi promised listeners that the album is still coming in a post last week where they also thanked fans for their support. Do you think Lil Uzi Vert will end up headlining Rolling Loud next year? Let us know in the comment section below.
Made In American Festival has officially confirmed the lineup for its 2023 rendition. The beloved Philly festival will return in September and is headlined by a pair of good friends. R&B stars SZA and Lizzo will serve as the festival’s joint headliners in a move that has fans buzzing with anticipation. Both artists are coming off hit 2022 albums. Lizzo dropped Special her long-awaited follow-up to 2019’s Cuz I Love You in July of last year. SZA arguably returned with even more anticipation when she dropped her first new album in 5 years SOS in December. Both artists have also had major hit songs with Lizzo’s “About Damn Time” and SZA’s “Kill Bill” each reaching the top of the charts.
The two artists have long been both friends and musical collaborators. Earlier this year SZA joined a remix of Lizzo’s song “Special” off her new album. In fact, just yesterday SZA came to Lizzo’s defense online against those who critique her body image. “I be wondering where all the virtue signaling ,well spoken sh*t talking , internet warriors are when someone genuine needs defending . Where the f*ck do y’all be at for lizzo ? Do y’all actually know how to support others or only tear them down,” her tweet read.
The two R&B darlings are far from the only highlights in the festival’s lineup. Alongside SZA and LIzzo are Miguel, Tems, Metro Boomin, Ice Spice, Coi Leray, Latto, Lil Yachty, Doechii, and more. In addition to the regular lineup, the festival will also feature a special performance from Mase and Cam’Ron. Former Made In America headliners include Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Bad Bunny, and Tyler, The Creator.
For SZA, it’s another stop in a busy year she’s having following her return to the spotlight. After releasing a remix with Doja Cat, she scored her first number-one hit with “Kill Bill.” While that’s the only official new material she’s released so far this year rumors about a SOS deluxe album have been swirling for months. What do you think of Made In America’s lineup? Let us know in the comment section below.
Rolling Loud 2023 is fully in stride. Already hosting shows in Los Angeles and Thailand, 2023 has been a huge success. This summer, the festival is returning back to its roots in Miami. Headlined by Playboi Carti, A$AP Rocky, and Travis Scott, this year’s lineup is set to be one of the festival’s best yet. In addition, they have a reputation for following industry trends. Rolling Loud 2023 is ushering in prominent rookies such as Ice Spice, Pink Pantheress, and Central Cee.
Rolling Loud’s journey to becoming the biggest hip-hop festival on the planet started in an elementary school classroom. Tariq Cherif and Matt Zingler would meet, and quickly become close friends. The duo embarked on Rolling Loud after having respective careers in event management in their 20s. The festival quickly blew up, differentiating itself as a hip-hop-focused act. “We were already booking all these Soundcloud rappers month after month in Florida,” Cherif stated. “We were like, ‘Dude, why are there these other genre-specific festivals, like Ultra and Electric Daisy Carnival with EDM, and Stagecoach for country, and how come there aren’t any for hip-hop?’”
Rolling Loud Blends Melodic & Rage Hip-Hop
While a few other hip-hop-centered festivals existed, these events occurred every few years. Additionally, they didn’t contain the differentiating factor of introducing fans to new artists that Rolling Loud contains. Florida was a perfect place to get this initiative off of the ground. Back in 2015, there was a revolution of local acts that were beginning to garner worldwide attention. You had the rage-filled acts such as XXXTentacion, Denzel Curry, and Lil Pump, who were each carving out a new sub-genre within hip-hop. Blending punk, grunge, and emo elements, Rolling Loud quickly became an event associated with huge mosh pits.
However, Rolling Loud is more than solely angry rap. They’re able to blend the poetic and aggressive worlds of the genre, drawing in both types of fans. Darting from J Cole to Action Bronson to Schoolboy Q, a diverse and unpredictable artist skillset is the case for every event. Cherif and Zingler spent long hours establishing their artist base, discovering future big names before they were well-known. For example, they allowed Travis Scott to perform Pre-Rodeo. They also hosted the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Uzi Vert, and 21 Savage before they were household names.
Their Shows Attract Over 100,000 Fans
Back in March, Rolling Loud 2023 was hosted in Los Angeles with a headliner list of Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, and Future. Playboi Carti teased new music at the event, with the sound in line with Whole Lotta Red‘s punk aesthetic. While Travis Scott’s performance was cut by a curfew, one of his first returns to the main stage after the Astroworld incident was met with a significant hype. He performed on a Saturday night in front of a sold-out crowd. While Rolling Loud started at Soho Studios in Miami, it has since morphed into a global and multi-yearly event. After only three years of being in business, their shows had gone from hosting a few thousand fans to over a hundred thousand. The independent duo had officially made it.
Rolling Loud is a Worldwide Powerhouse
The logical next step was for Rolling Loud to go international. By 2019, they had Kid Laroi performing for them in Australia. On the second weekend of this April, Rolling Loud 2023 went to Thailand. This summer, they’re going to Portugal. “For the show in Portugal, we try to bring out artists that are based in Europe or local Portuguese artists. There are different acts that maybe have a larger draw there. We will always show love to where we’re at,” Zingler stated.
Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, Rolling Loud stayed relevant by partnering with Twitch to live stream their performances. The dubbed Loud Stream brought in nearly five million viewers over a two-day period. Before the lockdown, Zingler and Cherif had already implemented live streams at their festivals. Once again ahead of the curve in the event space, it made their transition into the lockdown far more seamless than it was for other major events. Since the pandemic, live streams have become a standard in the live event space. Coachella hosted a live stream throughout their two weekends, which caused much controversy when Frank Ocean’s set was skipped over.
Tariq Cherif and Matt Zingler have been able to differentiate Rolling Loud by identifying underground artists with blow-up potential, merging the worlds of lyrical and rage rap, and keeping the event exclusively focused on hip-hop. In doing so, it’s begun to rival Coachella as the world’s largest music festival. With the festival already hosting a show in Los Angeles before traveling to Miami and Portugal in the summer, Rolling Loud 2023 is set to be bigger than ever.
