[WATCH] North West Meets Rapper Ice Spice For TikTok Collab

23-year-old Ice Spice burst onto the scene last summer with the success of her “Munch (Feelin’ U)” track. Since then, she’s gone on to release titles like “Bikini Bottom,” “In Ha Mood,” and most recently, her debut Like..? It was only a matter of time before she linked up with one of Hollywood child star 9-year-old North West.

Back in February, North sketched an awesome portrait of Spice, sharing it with her millions of followers on TikTok. It wasn’t long before the former college athlete saw the art for herself, and gave the young girl a shoutout for her hard work.

On Friday evening, the mother-daughter duo’s account posted a series of videos that sees North and her pals performing popular trends alongside Spice. In the first post, they dance along to a remixed version of “In Ha Mood,” the rap diva standing out in a hot pink outfit.

The rapper  appeared in several of North’s TikToks, and it seemed like she was having a good time with the nine-year-old and her friends.

The four danced to a TikTok remix of In Ha Mood by Ice Spice, and Kim made a quick appearance by popping her head into the frame.

In the second video, the group created an entire video acting out the lyrics to Boy’s a Liar Pt.2 by PinkPantheress and Ice Spice.
North also revealed yet another picture she drew of her current favourite artist. “Just met Ice Spice, literally screaming. She is so nice.”

[WATCH] Rapper Sauce Walka Allegedly Arrested After Crew Is Hit With RICO Charges

Screen Shot 2023 03 04 at 11.41.22 AM

Sauce Walka has landed himself in trouble. According to Daily Loud, the Houston rapper was allegedly caught carrying 66 grams of marijuana inside his backpack. He is also said to have had a bench warrant for not possessing a driver’s license.

No Jumper reported that Sauce (real name Albert Mondane) has been charged with intent to sell, manufacture, and deliver cannabis. He just posted bail that was  set at $5,000.

Law enforcement believe the Pompano Beach native failed a drug test on February 8. The results showed traces of fentanyl, the highly potent synthetic opioid that has claimed the lives of fellow rappers Mac Miller, Juice WRLD and Lil Peep.

Sauce Walka’s recent arrest comes after several members of The Sauce Factory (TSF) were arrested on racketeering charges back in December.

According to FOX 26 Houston, a number of alleged members of TSF — founded by Walka — were taken into custody just before Christmas for various crimes following an investigation conducted by the FBI and Houston Police Department.

Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani said the crimes included drug trafficking, possessing a “Glock switch” and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

A total of 14 people were arrested as part of the investigation, including Anthony Ketchum (35), Anthony Yezeno-Hopkins (38), Brandon Milson (32), Hassani Mills (34), Jaylyn Pinson (29), Josue Rodriguez (32), Keith Moore (34), Michael Henry (32), Myles Smith (23), Robert Thomas (29), Sterling Brumant (26), Titus Baisey (35) and Toree White (27) and Julian Herrera (26). Sauce Walka was not among those arrested.

Each of the men (apart from Thomas and Rodriguez) have been charged with possession with intent to deliver meth, and face up to life in prison and fines of up to $10 million.

Thomas was allegedly taken into custody for unlawfully possessing a Glock auto switch, while Rodriguez is accused of possessing a Ruger 5.7 mm firearm.

Screen Shot 2023 03 04 at 10.32.56 AM

In a candid interview with the Today Show, Rickey reveals Brandon’s cause of death. Rickey admits that Brandon struggled with drug abuse and that he died from a suspected accidental overdose.

Smiley, 54, said in Thursday’s interview that his late child’s girlfriend called him after finding Brandon “unresponsive” on Jan. 29.

“She said that, in her words, that he had OD’d,” he shared.

The comedian recalled receiving a second phone call while preparing for a flight to Georgia, this time from his “crying” daughter Taylor, who also let him know about Brandon’s death.

“He used, and it killed him,” he said.

Smiley admitted he was “shocked but not surprised” by the tragedy, explaining that he had “prepared … deep inside” for the possibility as Brandon struggled with addiction for years.

“His mother and I made several attempts to try to send him to get the help that he needed — send him to rehab,” he said.

“We thought that he as doing better. He had just joined the church, and he had just gotten baptized again, probably a month before he passed away.”

Smiley added that he does not “know why” or “how” Brandon became addicted to drugs, as his immediate family members are “all clean and sober.”

“We just assume that if you’re in a good school district or you’re in a gated community or everything is going good that these kids are not doing drugs,” he said. “You don’t have to be in the hood.”

Happy 57th Born Day To Brand Nubian Founder Grand Puba!

Screen Shot 2023 03 04 at 9.58.50 AM

On this day in Hip-Hop history, Brand Nubian founder Maxwell Dixon a.k.a. Grand Puba, was born today in 1966.

Grand Puba made his musical debut with the group Masters of Ceremony. The group’s first album Dynamite was released in 1988 and had an excellent critical reception. However, due to the lack of sales, the group disbanded shortly after the album’s release. This was when Puba emerged as the lead emcee of Brand Nubian.

Shortly after the 1990 release of the group’s debut, genre-less album One for All (which spanned reggae to Hip Hop to new jack swing), Grand Puba again parted ways from his group and embarked on a solo career. He recorded and released two albums, Reel to Reel, in 1992 and 2000 in 1995. Reel to Reel had much commercial success peaking at #28 on the Billboard 200 and toting the #1 hit single “360 Degrees (What Goes Around).” 2000 was also a success reaching the #48 spot on the Billboard 200 and its single “I Like It (I Wanna Be Where You Are)” hitting #91 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In 1997, Grand Puba returned to Brand Nubian, and the group released Foundation in 1998. This album marked the reunion of the four original members. It was the first time they appeared together since their debut. This was their most successful album as a group peaking at #59 on the Billboard 200 chart, and the single “Don’t Let It Go To Your Head” reached #53 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was their highest climbing track.

In 2001 Grand Puba released Understand This, and in 2009, he released his fourth solo album Retroactive featuring production from Q-Tip, Large Professor, and Kid Capri. Over the years, Grand Puba has worked with Beanie Sigel, Missy Elliot, Mary J. Blige, and more. He was even sampled on the hook on the 2Pac record “Old School.”

We here at The Source would like to wish Grand Puba a happy born day. May you see many more years of success and prosperity!

C-Murder Stages A Hunger Strike In Lockup

C Murder 1

Fourteen years ago New Orleans rapper C-Murder was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted on murder charges. Now, Master P’s little brother Corey Miller is staging a hunger strike while fighting his conviction.

C-Murder writes:

Jan. 17, 2023, marked 21 years I Corey Miller have been in the Louisiana Penal system.
I have been fighting for my health and freedom against this wrongful conviction and simultaneously fighting for my constitutional rights that were stripped away and violated by the penal system of Louisiana. An appeal was filed late December of 2022 and the DA & Judge of Louisiana has 30 days from Feb. 7, 2023 to answer .
Because Conditions in the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center have not improved, I am engaging in a hunger strike that began on February 23rd of 2023, to bring awareness to me and all inmates’ neglected and abused at the hands of the Louisiana penal system. It is imperative, NOW MORE THAN EVER, that a quick strategic move is made as my health has significantly declined due to the prison system’s inhumane conditions and I am not getting proper medical treatment. This has taking a major toll on me but I refuse to give up. Please Stand with me. #STANDWITHCOREYMILLER!

Conway The Machine And Jae Skeese Release New Single “Metallic 5’s” And Announce Joint Project ‘Pain Provided Profit’

Screen Shot 2023 03 03 at 9.29.28 AM

The first signee to Conway The Machine’s Drumwork Music Group imprint, Jae Skeese appeared on two songs on the deluxe version of Conway The Machine’s From King To A GOD, and the first single, “Blood Roses,” from La Maquina.  Skeese continued his ascent by not only appearing (“Drumwork” with fellow signee 7xvethegenius) on Conway’s Shady Records debut album God Don’t Make Mistakes but also by contributing to the album’s rollout, as Skeese murked two different freestyles alongside Conway on Bootleg Kev and LA Leakers.

After finishing up his recent sold-out Reject Mania European tour dates, and announcing his own forthcoming solo album, Won’t He Do It, Conway The Machine’s Drumwork Records Spring takeover continues with the announcement of, Pain Provided Profit, his collaborative project with Jae Skeese, which will be released on 3-10-23.

In addition to announcing their forthcoming collaborative project, Conway & Jae Skeese also shared Pain Provided Profit’s first focus track, “Metallic 5’s,” which is now available.  Like the OG Air Jordan sneaker of the same name, Conway & Skeese show and prove that “Metallic 5’s” is the standard-bearer for what Drumwork Records values are at the core level; creating street-certified art made explicitly for the culture at large.

“I just wanted to start the year off applying pressure” Conway comments.  “Me and Skeese definitely wanted to paint that picture, hard beats, dope rhymes and real life.”

Pain Provided Profit is really the G.O.A.T. and I coming together and showing why Conway is considered one of the illest in the game and why I was the first signed to Drumwork.  We cooked up some incredible records on here and we went back and forth on a couple records on some classic Jada and Styles/Hall N Nash type sh*t, him talking how he talk and me talking my talk.  Con and I really blacked out on this project” Jae Skeese declares.  “Pain Provided Profit is also the perfect appetizer for my Drumwork debut album, Abolished Uncertainties, which is also coming very soon; so I hope the fans are ready for this Drumwork takeover we are about to be on over the next few months!”

Conway The Machine & Jae Skeese’s Pain Provided Profit will be released on 3-10-23.

Today in Hip-Hop History: Boogie Down Productions Dropped Their Debut LP ‘Criminal Minded’ 36 Years Ago

Screen Shot 2023 03 03 at 8.48.07 AM

On this date in 1987, “Blastmaster” KRS-One, DJ Scott La Rock, “The Human 808” D-Nice and the rest of the Boogie Down Productions crew released their highly anticipated debut album Criminal Minded on B-Boy Records.

With the “South Bronx” vs. “The Bridge” aka BDP vs. The Juice Crew beef on wax was at its height, the Criminal Minded album proved to be one of the most important instructional projects for up and coming emcees on how to take out the top dog and start your own reign. As KRS mentioned in the QDIII Beef documentary, if MC Shan wouldn’t have responded to “The Bridge Is Over”, one of the premiere singles from the album, there probably would not have been the rise and success of KRS and BDP.

With Boogie Down Productions aligned with DJ Red Alert on the FM dial at 98.7 KISS and The Juice Crew siding with the one and only Mister Magic and Marley Marl on 107.5 WBLS, it also began the early radio wars, which is actually the origin of the HOT 97 and Power 105 battle on the dial.

Tracks that will forever be etched in Hip Hop history include intellectually adept “Poetry”, the street sagas in “My 9mm Goes Bang” and “P Is Still Free”, the late Scott La Rock-inspired “Super Hoe” and the extensive lyrical lesson in the album’s title track. Ironically, Scott Sterling, better known as DJ Scott La Rock, was killed less than six months after the album’s successful release.

Following Scott’s death, KRS began dropping socially conscious singles and albums, prompting Hip Hop’s “Stop The Violence” movement and the iconic, star-studded “Self Destruction” single.

[WATCH] Lil Scrappy Says 50Cent/The Game Beef Prevented Their Collaboration

Screen Shot 2023 03 03 at 8.25.23 AM

According to Lil Scrappy, Rapper 50 Cent was left “fucked up” over his beef with The Game, and it’s possibly the reason why he and and the Queens MC never got a chance to work together.

In a new interview with Live On Lake Street, Scrappy rapper opened up about his career, signing to Lil Jon, and his time spent with 50 Cent as an artist signed to G-Unit South.

Scrappy explained that he had planned to get 50 on his 2006 hit, “Money In The Bank,” which also features G-Unit’s Young Buck, but the collaboration never happened.

Scrappy believes that the tension between 50 Cent and The Game is why the two never got a chance to get in the studio together.

“I wanted 50 on there so bad, man,” he said. “I told 50, ‘You gotta do it, because a down south beat with an up north dude, if you get on there, it’s gonna be crazy.’”

The host followed up by asking Scrappy why he believed the collab never happened, to which he concluded it could have been due to 50’s beef with The Game during that time. “I think he was still hurting from that Game situation,” Scrappy said. “I can tell he was fucked up about that shit.”

DITC’s Diamond D Drops New Video for “The Wrong Thing”

Screen Shot 2023 03 02 at 11.55.03 PM

Diamond D’s new video for “The Wrong Thing” is a classic love tale so many of us know all too well, and the living rap legend brings the story to life in these cinematic visuals that he co-directed with Reemo Films.

The track stems from D’s latest record, 2022’s dope The Rear View, and it serves as the soundtrack for a short film about a very specific type of heartbreak. “It’s the story of a man who found love with a good woman but ultimately ruins the relationship by neglecting her,” D explains.

Realizing what he’s done, He tries to win her back at all costs by giving her everything she deserves, from gifts to nights out on the town. And while “The Wrong Thing” already hits hard enough with D’s storytelling bars and scene-setting, it’s made that much more potent thanks to Ashtin Martin’s strong guest vocals on the hook.

Check out the visuals and head over to support The Rear View, available now on Dymond Mine Records / EMPIRE Distribution. In addition to Ashtin Martin, the 14-track LP includes guest appearances by Chris Rock, Fat Joe, Posdnuos (De La Soul), Westside Gunn, DJ Cash Money, Stacy Epps, and more, with production supplied by himself along with Nottz, Focus, D.R.U.G.S. Beats, Mr.Brady and Len Funk. The album is also available on CD and vinyl in both a classic black version through Fat Beats as well as an exclusive translucent light blue edition via HHV.
