Drake Unfollows Elliott Wilson, The Latter Claims After “Meet The Grahams” Edit

Elliott Wilson may have caught flack for posting an edited version of “Meet The Grahams,” but he’s definitely no OVO die-hard, either. Moreover, he remarked that all of the tracks in the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef have been good except “The Heart Part 6,” and has been quite critical of Drizzy in particular along with his jabs towards K.Dot. But it seems like the Toronto superstar has finally had enough of being at odds with the Rap Radar host, because Wilson made a very interesting claim on Twitter this morning (Friday, May 10). “The BOY unfollowed me on IG,” he wrote, which led many in the replies to mock The Boy, question why this would be so surprising, criticize the journalist, or just comment on the situation in general.

Furthermore, Drake and Elliott Wilson have butted heads quite a lot over the past year or so, starting as recently as July of last year. The latter criticized the former for not doing any more interviews that were “within the culture,” such as radio interviews, podcasts with hip-hop media, magazines, other rap-centric outlets, etc. Following a pretty dismissive and trolling response from Aubrey, Wilson apologized to him given their strong rapport over the years. At least, a rapport that stuck around much more before he strayed away from a lot of hip-hop media in his superstardom.

Elliott Wilson Claims Drake No Longer Follows Him

I’m actually very disappointed in this song,” Elliott Wilson said of Drake’s “The Heart Part 6” in a conversation with DJ Akademiks. “The problem I’m having with Drake in this whole thing is that he refuses to view Kendrick as a worthy opponent. He still keeps little bro-ing him like we’re in the Club Paradise days. I just don’t think that’s the right strategy, He needs to deliver bars and go at him. He hadn’t even made a whole record direct to Kendrick yet. He’s all about airing everyone out that’s going against him. Obviously, there’s a whole movement and Metro orchestrated a lot of it.

“He doesn’t get why Kendrick is so big and why people love him so much and the type of music he makes and the success he has,” Elliott Wilson continued. “He doesn’t connect to it… I think a lot of people don’t like Drake, but they all respect him. You can’t not respect The Boy because of what he’s done.”

TDE’s Punch Questions Elliott Wilson’s Edit Of Kendrick Lamar’s “Meet The Grahams”

Kendrick Lamar has removed copyright from almost every other person, page, account, content channel, or reactor posting his recent Drake diss tracks online… except for one. Moreover, Elliott Wilson had taken to Twitter with an edited version of his haunting song “Meet The Grahams” without the verse claiming that Drizzy has a secret daughter. Then, he expressed surprise when he realized that the copyright owner disabled the media on Twitter, for which people have many theories. TDE’s president Punch had some words on the matter, and his statement on the edit is fueling other ideas as to why K.Dot would’ve wanted to take that down.

Why would you request for it to be edited anyway? Did you ask for edits on anything else?” Punch asked Elliott Wilson, who invited him for a conversation in the replies on Twitter. Moreover, this lends credence to the speculative idea that Kendrick Lamar wants to keep the original version of the song intact because, even though his allegations are unverified, so are many of Drake’s and ones on other of his own tracks. As such, Punch seems to be pointing at an apparent double standard in this beef that Wilson probably did not intend in the first place.

Punch Reacts To Elliott Wilson’s Kendrick Lamar Edit

Regardless, the damage is there, and Kendrick Lamar and Drake seem no closer to providing proof on one another or burying the hatchet at any point in the future. Perhaps the battle isn’t over yet despite what most folks are saying online, so we’ll see if this changes at any point. Of course, there are people like Freddie Gibbs who rightfully concluded that the only real winners in this beef were the record labels. Maybe this scuffle over an edit also speaks to how hip-hop media was able to shift and mold this battle in their image for their own gain or benefit, but we’re all complicit in that as fans.

Meanwhile, we can’t help but wonder how this whole situation will age. Will we ever remember this edited version of “Meet The Grahams,” and will “Not Like Us” keep its commercial staying power? No matter the case, this is going down in the history books one way or another. Kendrick Lamar and Drake went too hard, too quick, too low, and too impressively to not consider this one of the most memorable hip-hop moments of the past decade or so.

Elliott Wilson Discusses Drake’s “The Heart Part 6” With DJ Akademiks: “I’m Disappointed”

Elliott Wilson says that he was disappointed by Drake’s newest attempt to diss Kendrick Lamar on “The Heart Part 6.” He discussed the track during a phone call with DJ Akademiks while the live streamer was broadcasting. Wilson argued that Drake’s strategy for the beef isn’t doing him any favors.

“I’m actually very disappointed in this song,” he admitted. “The problem I’m having with Drake in this whole thing is that he refuses to view Kendrick as a worthy opponent. He still keeps little bro-ing him like we’re in the Club Paradise days. I just don’t think that’s the right strategy, He needs to deliver bars and go at him. He doesn’t connect to it.” When Ak pointed out that Lamar has similar feelings toward Drake, Wilson argued. “I think a lot of people don’t like Drake but they all respect him. Rich The Kid has responded to Elliott Wilson calling him the “luckiest n***a on the planet.” Taking to Twitter on Monday, he remarked that hating “isn’t cool.” It appears that Wilson was referring to Rich’s appearance on Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s new album, Vultures 1. He contributed to the song, “Carnival,” alongside Playboi Carti.

“How the fuck I’m lucky? N****s made that song from scratch.. hating is not cool bro,” Rich said in response to Wilson. The back and forth warranted mixed responses from fans. “Because you’ve been washed for like 6 years straight and happned to fetaure on a song w 3 generational rappers , have some self awareness bruh,” one user replied. Whether it’s posting up with Gunna or going after Kai Cenat, Wilson has been getting a lot of flak as of late.

However, Wilson is not the only person who has been commenting on hip-hop Mount Rushmores. Gucci Mane has proclaimed that he “belongs on the Mount Rushmore of anything” after being left off a now-viral meme. The original meme listed Future, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, and Jeezy as its “Mount Rushmore of Mixtapes”. “I definitely belong there on the Mount Rushmore of anything. That’s just my opinion, but I’m biased. I’m not blind, you know. I’ve got different criteria that what I judge than what, probably, you judge. Or somebody else might judge. Or the popular opinion might judge,” Gucci told the Rap Radar podcast.

The post, made last month, has sparked a lot of debate in the music community. To Gucci’s credit, a lot of the replies were lamenting his exclusion from the list. Other frequently mentioned names included Wiz Khalifa, Jadakiss, and Lil B. Who would appear on your “Mixtape Mount Rushmore”? Let us know in the comments below.

Elliott Wilson is coming under fire on Twitter for posting a photo of Offset with Gunna next to a photo of Quavo wearing a “Free Young Thug” shirt. Fans believe he is trying to start drama between the two with the post. Ice of the Joe Budden Podcast was one of the voices to criticize Wilson, responding sarcastically: “hip hop journalism.”

“Documenting Quavo’s reaction to Offset kickin’ it with Gunna is actually hip-hop journalism,” Wilson fired back on Twitter. In another tweet, he added: “Trolling. Hating. Messy. Y’all talk in zesty internet terms. But often don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Elliott Wilson Sends Kai Cenat An Apology On His Birthday

Happy birthday to Kai Cenat, who turned 22 years old today (Friday, December 16) and held a livestream to celebrate. He even unboxed a new chain for the occasion that he showed off with much pride and excitement, and overall, he seemed to have a great time with friends. Of course, as the Twitch streaming giant gets more successful and renowned every year, he’s really showing out for it. But not all presents are physically tied with a bow, and even fewer of them heal past issues, however slight. Furthermore, the New Yorker got a very unexpected birthday gift from someone who had misunderstood him recently: Elliott Wilson.

Moreover, the hip-hop journalist took to Twitter on Friday to shout out Kai Cenat on his special day. “I apologize to @KaiCenat + his fam,” Elliott Wilson wrote. “I was out of line and let my competitive nature get the best of me. Kai carved his own lane in the game, built a great platform and deserves respect. Salute the streamers and young creatives getting to the paper and pushing our culture forward. Go against Nicki? I musta been dense. The barbs tore me up and even 50 Cent.”

Elliott Wilson’s Apology

If you didn’t understand that last part, Elliott Wilson had originally expressed distaste for Kai Cenat’s livestream with Nicki Minaj. He tweeted a picture of her twerking for Cenat, his friends, and the chat, captioning it with “Hip Hop Journalism.” The Trinidadian MC didn’t hold back in her defense of the now-22-year-old. “Elliott if you’d spit Jay-Z d**k out for one second, you’d be able to be happy for the new comers,” she tweeted. “Isn’t that how y’all tried to tarnish my image? By saying I’m not welcoming new btchs in? Did songs with all of them tho. Why you not happy for a young black man like Kai?”

Kai Cenat Celebrates His 22nd Birthday

Meanwhile, the Pink Friday 2 hitmaker even brought the streamer and his AMP companion Fanum out during a recent concert, so you know that love runs pretty deep. Regardless, it’s still pretty heartening to see examples of old and new generations coming together. Hopefully we get more of those in the future. Nicki Minaj Disses Elliott Wilson For Kai Cenat Criticism, 50 Cent Chimes In

Nicki Minaj’s recent press run for the post-release hype behind Pink Friday 2 proved to be more contentious than some fans might’ve anticipated. A lot of that has to do with her recent appearance on Kai Cenat’s livestream, which had a lot of fans happy… and some not so much. For example, Elliott Wilson screenshot a picture of Kai and his friends hyping the Trinidadian superstar up as she twerked and posted it on Twitter, captioning it “hip-hop journalism.” Clearly, she didn’t appreciate the dismissive and disdainful shot at her fellow New Yorker from a fellow New Yorker. Queen Barb took to the social media platform to call Wilson out and stick up for a new generation of media consumers.

“Elliot if you’d spit JayZ dikk out for one second, you’d be able to be happy for the new comers,” Nicki Minaj clapped back at the legendary music journalist. “Isn’t that how y’all tried to tarnish my image? By saying I’m not welcoming new btchs in? Did songs with all of them tho. Why you not happy for a young black man like Kai. Tmrw btch.”

Nicki Minaj Claps Back At Elliott Wilson

Then, Elliott Wilson actually retweeted this message, as he seemed to take it pretty lightly at the end of the day. “Never dissed Nicki,” he wrote. “Always said she’s the female rap GOAT. Over Lauryn, Missy, Kim and Foxy and all. I think Cardi B is dope too. Happy Holidays.” In addition, 50 Cent also reacted to Nicki Minaj’s comments, defending his latest collaborator‘s comedic skills. “Look how @nickiminaj be blacking out on these [ninja emoji]’s. this s**t be having me crying LMAO,” the G-Unit mogul expressed on Instagram.

50 Cent Is In Tears

Meanwhile, this is by no means the 41-year-old’s only conflictive run-in with a media figure as of late. She also called out DJ Envy for his alleged real estate fraud and scam, which was one of the oddest but also most talked-about stories within hip-hop this year. Do you think that there’s going to be more conflict between the Barbz and rap media in the coming weeks? Let us know your predictions down in the comments section below. And they had the music editor at The Source, Reginald C. Dennis. I wanted to be that guy. He gets all the albums before them s**ts come out, he reviews them, he controls the mics. That’s what I wanted. I wanted to control the mics.”

He also labeled Tyler “a great kid,” who “loves hip-hop.” Of the brunch as a whole, Wilson added: “The brunch was great for us because it helped us bond with Tyler to get that interview.
