SZA Gave Us A Classic Hit With “Drew Barrymore”

At this point in her career, SZA is a superstar who can hardly be rivaled. Overall, she has two incredible albums under her belt. Firstly, she came out with CTRL back in 2017. Over five years later, she returned by dropping S.O.S. Despite taking so much time between albums, the wait was actually very much worth it. She showed a ton of range and growth with this undertaking, and it was packed with hits. However, CTRL still holds a spot in a lot of people’s hearts as it came out during a lot of her fans’ formative years.

In fact, today marks the six-year anniversary of CTRL‘s release. It is hard to believe it has been that long since this album came out. However, time moves fast and this is an example of that. The project, which was released shortly after DAMN, remains a heavy-hitter in terms of singles. Of course, you have “Love Galore” with Travis Scott. Although perhaps the most powerful single was “Drew Barrymore,” which can be listened to below.

SZA Got Vulnerable With This Song

SZA delivered some gorgeous vocals on this song, as well as some sad and introspective lyrics. Although, the artist is pretty hard on herself on this track. However, that was very much the theme across the entire album. The artist reckons with past relationships and not feeling worthy enough. These are all some heavy themes, and SZA navigates them beautifully.

Let us know which song on CTRL is your favorite, in the comments section down below. Additionally, tell us which SZA album is your favorite. After all, both choices are pretty amazing. Be sure to stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will always bring you the biggest songs from the biggest artists.

Quotable Lyrics:

Why is it so hard to accept the party is over?
You came with your new friend
And her mom jeans and her new Vans
And she’s perfect and I hate it
Oh, so glad you made it
I’m so glad you could come back

MTV Movie Awards Moving Forward With No Host & No Audience

The MTV Movie & TV Awards were previously announced to be without a host. Now, they will also be without a live audience. The award show is scheduled to be broadcast on several TV channels on Sunday. Bruce Gillmer, an executive at Paramount Global, says the decision to pivot away from a live audience has been made. Bruce is the executive producer on the show, so he has had quite a bit of behind the scenes insight. In a statement to TMZ, he explained the decision.

“As we carefully navigate how best to deliver the fan first awards show we envisioned that our team has worked so hard to create,” he began. “We’re pivoting away from a live event that still enables us to produce a memorable night.” Bruce went on to say some comforting words for those who care. He says that the night will still include many of the things fans have come to know and love the MTV Movie & TV Awards for. “[It will be] full of exclusive sneak peaks, irreverent categories our audience has come to expect,” he continued, “and countless moments that will both surprise and delight as we honor the best of film and TV over the past year.”

Drew Barrymore, the iconic actress and talk show host, was originally set to host the MTV Movie & TV Awards. However, she unexpectedly withdrew from her role as host on May 4th. In an interview with Variety, Barrymore explained why she had decided to step down as host. It was in order to show respect for the writers who were on strike. She stated that she would wait to host the show until a solution had been reached. However, she said that she would be watching the show from home in the meantime. Additionally, Barrymore called for others to join her in boycotting the services of the studios involved in the picketing.

In a surprising move, MTV showed support for Barrymore’s decision to step down. “When this all reared its head, we started to prepare for what could be,” Bruce Gillmer said. “She is not surprisingly, standing in solidarity with the writers, which we have full respect for.” Drew Barrymore will, however, host the awards in 2024. The 2023 event will still be going on, even though there is now no host or audience. What that means for the show as a whole remains to be seen. What do you think of the decision not to have an audience?

Drew Barrymore Pulls Out Of MTV Awards To Support WGA Strike

The Writers Guild of America (WGA), the union that represents the creative staff at most Hollywood and New York studios, has been on strike since May 2. The strike, the first of its kind since 2008, was called after the WGA and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) failed to reached an agreement before the current WGA contract expired. The 2007-08 WGA Strike lasted a little over three months.

According to the WGA, the contract offered by the AMPTP was not satisfactory. Issues such as writer compensation, residuals, and AI usage were not properly met by the AMPTP contract. This led to the calling of a strike beginning at 12:01 am PDT on May 2. The strike has shut down production at multiple Hollywood studios, as well as at the major East Coast television studios. Late-night talk shows and other shows, such as SNL, will halt their production and run re-runs until the conclusion of the strike. A number of famous faces have come out in support of the strike, including Snoop Dogg. Drew Barrymore can also be added to that list.

Drew Barrymore, the iconic actor and now talk show host, was due to host the MTV Movie & TV Awards on May 7. However, Barrymore made the sudden decision to step down as host on May 4. “I have listened to the writers, and in order to truly respect them, I will pivot from hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards live.” Barrymore told Variety, “Everything we celebrate and honor about movies and television is born out of their creation. And until a solution is reached, I am choosing to wait but I’ll be watching from home.” Barrymore also called for others to boycott the services of the studios being picketed.

However, MTV has supported Barrymore’s decision to step down. “When this all reared its head, we started to prepare for what could be,” executive producer Bruce Gillmer told Variety. “She is not surprisingly, standing in solidarity with the writers, which we have full respect for.” Barrymore will instead host the awards in 2024. Meanwhile, the 2023 ceremony, which will still go ahead, will feature no host or red-carpet event.

Chlöe Reflected On Touring With Beyoncé Back In 2016 For The ‘Formation World Tour’

Chlöe may have asked her estranged lover “How Does It Feel” to lose out on her love in the single. But actress and television host Drew Barrymore is turning the question back on her regarding a very special lady in her life. While out promoting her debut solo album, In Pieces, the singer stopped by Barrymore’s namesake talk show.

With the “Body Do” singer currently on tour, Barrymore wanted to take a trip down memory lane when Chlöe and her sister, Halle Bailey, were featured as guest openers for their mentor Beyoncé’s Euporean leg of the Formation World Tour in 2016.

“Oh my God! I’m so excited,” declared the host as she held hands with the singer. Barrymore went on to talk about first becoming a fan of Chlöe which included the tour appearance. “What was that like,” the host asked.

To that, Chlöe replied, “It was really exciting! And all those people [in the audience]. I was like, ‘We get to perform in front of all those people that came here to see Beyoncé?’ That was pretty cool!”

Later on in the interview, Chlöe acknowledged that despite all that she’s accomplished professionally, at times, she is still harsh on herself. When asked what she does to shake out of those moments, she replied, “So I’ll cry it out first. I’m gonna be honest. I call my God mom, and I call Halle and my siblings and just cry and cry, and they’ll be like, ‘Boss up.’”

She added, “And I’m gonna be honest, when my album came out last week, I never thought the day would come, so when it actually happened, I was like trying to figure out every way in my head to make sure it wasn’t happening, or it was like imposter syndrome, so I keep reciting to myself, ‘I deserve it, I deserve it.’”

In Pieces is out now via Columbia Records and Parkwood Entertainment. Find more information here.

Chloe Bailey Cried Seeing Sister Halle In “Little Mermaid”

Chloe Bailey has been the target of a lot of hate recently. However, she shared a very sweet moment today on The Drew Barrymore Show. The singer was on the show to promote her new album, which has not been doing as well as many had hoped. However, always the positive force, Drew decided to focus on all of the good in Chloe’s life. As such, she asked Chloe about her thoughts on Halle’s part as Ariel in The Little Mermaid.

Chloe told Drew that she was actually in the middle of getting ready when the trailer dropped. She was waiting to get her hair and makeup done for an Oscars afterparty, but she made time to watch her sister. “I was screaming and I was crying,” Chloe said emotionally. “I was just screaming because she is a real-life mermaid, a siren, graceful in all her beauty. And people get to see what I’ve always seen since we were little girls.”

Chloe Has No Time For Haters

Chloe has been hard at work herself recently. In addition to her music, she has still been pursuing her acting career. Her latest role in Donald Glover’s Amazon series, Swarm, got her quite a bit of negative attention. Many thought that a sex scene Chloe took part in was far too explicit. She disagrees. Chloe also played a lead role in the Peacock film Praise This. Her hard work is paying off, it seems, because she’s certainly getting quite a bit of attention.

Regardless of the fact that her album did not sell extremely well, Chloe is pushing forward. Her In Pieces tour just kicked off, and it’s already making headlines, if not exactly for the right reasons. On the opening night of her tour, Chloe responded to the hate that she’s been receiving. “Make sure y’all are supporting the muthaf*ckin’ album,” the singer said. “F*ck what the f*ck everybody gotta f*ckin’ say, they can kiss my Black *ss. Because I know you guys love me and this is all I need.” She did make sure to thank her fans, though: “Thank you for loving me, thank you for being here, thank you for your energy.” What do you think of all the hate Chloe is getting? Is it warranted? Sound off in the comments.

Remy Ma And Her Daughter Surprise Mary J. Blige

Remy Ma and her young daughter stopped by The Drew Barrymore Show to surprise Mary J. Blige. The 9-time Grammy award winner was on the show to speak about her new book, Mary Can! It is an illustrated children’s book that Blige wrote with the goal of teaching children that they can do anything and they are enough. The artist has kept busy recently and shows no signs of slowing down in the near future. Recently, Blige was announced as a headliner at the Blue Note Jazz Festival.

Both Remy Ma and Mary J. Blige are well-known individuals in the hip-hop and R&B communities. Reminisce Smith, better known by the stage name Remy Ma, first rose to prominence in the early 2000s as a part of the Terror Squad. Then, she launched a lucrative solo career. Since her debut, Remy has received acclaim for her ability as a rapper and her contributions to the genre. Generally, she is known for having tough-talking lyrics and an aggressive flow. Mary J. Blige, on the other hand, has had a successful singing and songwriting career for over three decades. Blige has been dubbed the “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul” for her soulful vocals and straightforward lyrics. Unsurprisingly, the music business has been significantly impacted by both Remy Ma and Mary J. Blige, and the two have maintained a close friendship for some time.

Mary J. Blige Gets Emotional After Remy Praise

In the middle of the interview with Drew, Remy Ma comes out with her daughter, Reminisce Mackenzie. Mary J. Blige looks pleasantly surprised to see her and the two embrace. Remy has high words of praise for the soul singer and says that she was everything she hoped she would be and more. “You know how you meet somebody or aspire to meet somebody… sometimes, in this industry you meet them and they’re not really what you envisioned them to be?” Remy says. “Not only is she everything that I thought she would be, but she’s like past that.”

Mary J. Blige looks very emotional as Remy speaks about their friendship and thanks the rapper for her kind words. However, this was not the end of the praise that Remy had for Blige. The rapper continues, telling Drew about how genuine Blige is. “I think what she’s doing in her legacy is — I don’t even know she’s aware of how many people that she touched.” Have you been touched by Mary J. Blige’s music? Sound off in the comments to let us know.

Damson Idris On Trip To South Central With John Singleton & Friendship With Jay-Z, Beyoncé

The things that go on behind the scenes in the industry make for interesting stories, and Damson Idris shares a tale about John Singleton. The praised filmmaker passed away in 2019, and his creative efforts continue to be imprinted in the minds of millions of fans. He gave us movies like Baby Boy, Boyz n The Hood, Poetic Justice, and more. Singleton was also responsible for giving the world Snowfall, the series that stars Idris. The actor recently visited Drew Barrymore’s talk show and shared the story of Singleton dropping him off in South Central, Los Angeles, to work on his accent.

“By audition No. 8, Singleton took me to South Central, opened the car door, and said, ‘If you survive, you’ve got the role,” the British actor said with a laugh. “And it really was an experience. I was walking around South Central, I had to stay in character. So, I wasn’t allowed to be British. And I said to his mother, ‘Oh, how lovely your hair looks today. I’m just gonna go, and you know, put this in a bin.’ And she goes, ‘John! He ain’t from here, huh?!”

Idris joked that he “nearly lost the part.” The actor added, “Hey, six seasons later. Here we are.” Barrymore enjoyed the story, but she quickly moved on to rumors that Damson is friends with Jay-Z and Beyoncé. “I’ve been around them many times,” he answered. Drew called Hov almost “paternal” in how he deals with people. Idris responded, “Yeah, I’ll be in Miami,m it’s late. I’ll call them up, and I’ll be like, ‘Hey, I can’t get reservations at Carbone.’” He couldn’t help but laugh before giving his best Jay-Z impression.

Idris claims the Roc Nation mogul told him to win a few more Emmys before having that clout. It was all in good fun, and the actor called Bey and Jay “the sweetest.” He said, “We connected in many ways, but the Super Bowl was really great because it was kind of the first time I really connected with B. I had just walked for Prada… Such a huge moment for me.”

More Laughs During The Interview

Snowfall is coming to an end with its final season, and Damson Idris’s fans await more from the actor. Off-screen, his relationship with Lori Harvey is heating up. Check out Damson Idris on The Drew Barrymore Show above.

Lauren London Shares How She Found “Courage” To Act Again After Nipsey’s Death

You People has been the talk of pop culture as the Kenya Barris film eased its way to Netflix, and the film’s star, Lauren London, has been hopping from one outlet to the next to help promote it. The actress took some deserved time away from the spotlight following the death of Nipsey Hussle. She reflected on her return to the big screen while on The Drew Barrymore Show.

“I’m very apprehensive with just working right now, just grieving still and just, you know, building a new life,” said London. “So, I’m very intentional on who I work with, and Kenya just created a really safe space. And so did Jonah [Hill].”

In March 2019, Nipsey was outside his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles when he was shot and killed by Eric Holder. The two men were associates, and it’s reported that Nipsey said something that Holder took as an offense.

Last year, Holder was found guilty of Hussle’s murder and is currently awaiting sentencing. Since his death, London has focused on maintaining his legacy and took a step back from pursuing her career.

The actress also revealed that her eldest son, Kameron Carter, whom she shares with Lil Wayne, encouraged her to get back to work.

Barrymore wanted to know how London found the courage to return to acting.

“Every day is different. So, some days you don’t want to. You just want to lay there,” she answered. “My big reason is my children because they do deserve a really happy mom, and they deserve joy, and they deserve a house that has music playing and incense going and light coming in the windows. They deserve that.”

“You know, when you lose someone, they’re on the other side wanting you to continue life, as well,” London further stated. “So, I just always think about what I know Nip would want me to do and what I know my children deserve. And what I deserve, too!”
