Drake Announces The OVO Fest Dates For This Summer After A Two Year Hiatus

Drake is known for many things: record-breaking music, Instagram caption-ready lyrics, a charmingly corny disposition, and an undying love for his hometown. His loyalty to Toronto materialized over a decade ago with his longstanding event OVO Fest, where he’s brought out the likes of Kanye West, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and many more rap titans. As with many things, the pandemic hindered his ability to keep the tradition going, but OVO Fest is officially set to return at the end of this month.

In an Instagram post, the “One Dance” artist enthusiastically announced “October World Weekend” after previously alluding to his desire to make the festival happen. He revealed that he is looking to turn OVO Fest into a full tour come 2023, but to start, he’s bringing it back to its roots on Thursday July 28, Friday July 29 and Monday August 1. The July 28 show at History will feature the “All Canadian North Stars,” which opens up the imagination to a few major acts that could appear. The July 29 installment, at Budweiser Stage, will feature Chris Brown and Lil Baby. A few days later (August 1), the show returns to Budweiser Stage with Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and a Young Money Reunion.

After not being able to tour 2021’s Certified Lover Boy and adding the June dance album Honestly, Nevermind to the mix, this is sure to be a huge moment for Drake, his fans, and, of course, Toronto.

Tickets go on sale this Friday via Ticketmaster. Check out Drake’s official OVO Fest announcement above.

Drake Says He Has a Big Announcement Coming for Toronto

Drake Sheds a Tear as Kanye West Performed "Runaway"

Drake has an album flowing through the street in Honestly, Nevermind, spawning bangers and radio hits like “Sticky” and “Massive.” What could be next? We are not sure yet but Drake is scheming.

The 6ix God was streaming for Stake when he revealed he has something big on the way, seemingly for Toronto.

“Big announcement coming Wednesday for the city,” Drake said. “Appreciate everyone listening to the new album. Embracing something that I wanted to do for a long time. I appreciate all the love. You know, means a lot to me that it’s been this many years, people still tuning in, being open showing a lot of love to, you know, different shit. I’m back going crazy, though. I’m just letting you know right now. I’m in a different bag right now. I promise you. Scary.”

Could “I’m back going crazy” mean a return to the traditional bars of Drake? On “Jimmy Cooks” he showed us he was still in shape, but nobody doubted that. Around the release of Honestly, Nevermind, The Boy hinted at another Scary Hours release. Who knows what’s on the way but we all are waiting.

You can hear it from Drake below.

Drake Won — And Lost — Over $25M Playing Roulette With French Montana

Drake’s penchant for gambling is no secret, but his latest exploits are bound to become the stuff of legend. Playing virtual roulette with online casino Stake on Twitch, Drake won — and then lost — over $25 million, according to HipHopDX. That total included two big hits for $12.96 million and $11.95 million, growing his balance from $8.5 million to $27.2 million before he ended the event with just $1,879 left. He was joined by French Montana, who he introduced with French’s signature ad-lib:

“You know what that deserves? A haaahn!” he joked while celebrating his $12 million hit. “And I got my special guest in the building, take a seat. Ladies and gentlemen, I’m here with my brother, my twin, my lookalike Montega.” Unfortunately, having the Bronx hitmaker at his side didn’t improve his luck much.

Drake didn’t empty his account entirely on bad bets, though. He also gave away much of his fortune to viewers, gifting $25,000 each to viewers who tuned in from all over the world. All told, he shared $1 million.

Drake had better luck with the slew of other big bets he’s put up over the past year, including putting $1 million on MMA fighter Israel Adesanya earlier this month, over $1 million on the Rams in this year’s Super Bowl, and $200,000 on the Warriors in the NBA Finals. But remember, as one of hip-hop’s cash kings, he’s definitely got the money for it and it’s not for everybody — something Jack Harlow found out at the Kentucky Derby.

Drake Gets All In His Feels In A Self-Recorded Video About Hearing The Weeknd For The First Time

The Weeknd is kicking off his After Hours Til Dawn Tour tonight to the tune of a sold out show at Toronto’s Rogers Centre. Selling out a 55,000 capacity show in his hometown stadium is a full circle moment for The Weeknd and the magnitude of it all was definitely lost on Drake, one of his earliest supporters. In a video posted to his Instagram Stories, Drake, who just released his latest album, Honestly, Nevermind last month, fawns over hearing The Weeknd for the first time in the driveway of his old Toronto apartment and he was all in his feels about it.

“Ok, look… This right here, this little driveway area right here, this is the first place that I ever heard the Weeknd’s music, right here,” Drake says in the clip, moving the camera over to show the area. He’s borderline gushing and maybe a little emotional from a night out.

He shouts out Oliver El-Khatib (“my brother, of course”) for playing him The Weeknd back then, before continuing with his thought: “This is my old building, in Toronto. We were parked out here, and it was raining. Right here. And that same guy selling out SkyDome tomorrow night… not the Rogers Centre. ‘Cause we just still call it the SkyDome. That man is selling out the SkyDome tomorrow. So I just want anybody that’s trying to do this sh*t to understand… Like, I heard this man’s music right here for the first time. Pouring rain. It’s a great life.”

You have to appreciate not only Drake’s pure love for The Weeknd, but also his commitment to still calling the Rogers Centre the SkyDome, even though the name changed back in 2005. Regardless, Suffice it to say that Drake will be cheering Abel along on stage like an NBA bench-warmer tonight.
