Here’s A Timeline Of Drake’s Best Moments Of 2022

Drake has been quite busy this year — from releasing two albums and racking up a slew of nominations to eclipsing other commercial juggernauts like Eminem and breaking the Beatles’ record for most top-five singles. The Canadian hitmaker has cemented his cultural footprint with a career that spans nearly a decade.

By collaborating with the hottest artists out right now, like Jack Harlow and Tems, the rapper consistently finds ways to stay relevant and atop the Billboard charts. Drake always finds himself at the center of cultural conversations, whether it’s a new hair change or sparking debates about misogyny in rap. Here are some of the biggest moments from Drake in 2022.

Drake Releases Honestly, Nevermind

With his seventh studio album, Honestly, Nevermind, Drake transports fans into an electronic dance fever dream. With cascading beats and the rapper’s notoriously emo lines, the album will have you pumping your fist in the air in one moment and crying in the next. The album also caused a significant debate about the roots of house music, where fans claimed that Drake was “reclaiming” the Black art form.

The album represents a full-circle moment for the pop star, who has slowly been edging toward more dance-themed hits like 2016’s “One Dance.”

Drake Eclipses Beatles For The Most Top-Five Singles Of All Time

The hitmaker has been racking up record-breaking awards all year, but this might be the biggest. The rapper has now eclipsed the Beatles for the most top-five singles ever. “Staying Alive” by DJ Khaled and featuring both Drake and Lil Baby helped the “Sticky” rapper claim his 30th top-five song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

But it doesn’t stop there: The rapper has also become the highest-selling artist in RIAA history, surpassing Eminem.

Drake Releases Her Loss With 21 Savage

After releasing a collaborative project with Future in 2016, What A Time to Be Alive, fans were eager to know when the rapper would do another collab and, more importantly, with who. Following the release of Honestly, Nevermind this past summer, the rapper teamed up with 21 Savage for his next project, Her Loss.

Along with topping the charts, the album caused quite a bit of controversy. Drake found himself in hot water with Megan Thee Stallion fans after allegedly dissing her on one of the album’s tracks, “Circo Loco.” Vogue also sued the rapper and 21 Savage for using a fake cover during the rollout of their album.

Argentina Avoided The ‘Drake Curse’ But Drake Still Lost A Ton Of Money

World Cup fans (and sports fans in general) can finally sigh in relief: Argentina has broken the “Drake Curse” and won the 2022 FIFA World Cup. But that’s where Drake‘s luck ends.

After it was announced that the Canadian rap star would be betting around $1 million on Argentina in their game against France for the World Cup finals, fans were immediately put on edge. But have no fear. Argentina beat France, which would be great for the rapper. Unfortunately he still wound up losing due to a technicality: Drake bet the Latin American country would win before halftime, but he lost thanks to France’s Kylian Mbappé’s last-minute goal before the penalty shootout.

The match ended 3-3 after extra time as Argentina went head to head in a dramatic shootout, winning it 4-2.

For years, a curse has seemed to follow the rapper whenever he expresses his love for certain athletes or teams. He has a terrible track record for making sporting bets — one of the few things he doesn’t appear to be good at.

There have been quite a few notable moments in sports history where specific teams and athletes have fallen victim to the “Drake curse,” including The University of Alabama, who lost 44-16 to the Clemson Tigers after the rapper shared a video working out while wearing a hoodie in Roll Tide support. Then there’s Conor McGregor, who lost his fight in a fourth round submission to Russian fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov after McGregor shared a picture with him in 2018.

Drake Bet On Argentina For The World Cup Final, Which Has Fans On Edge

Ahead of tomorrow’s World Cup final, Drake has let it be known that he is betting on Argentina to win the closing game against France. Depending on who you’re rooting for, this could be a good thing or a bad thing.

See, Drake doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to making bets or expressing fandom to certain athletes or teams. While he is known to make allusions to professional sports and athletes in his songs, as well as share photos of himself wearing team jerseys. However, his outward support has not always worked out in his favor.

Some examples of teams and athletes who have fallen victim to the “Drake curse” include Conor McGregor, who lost his fight in a fourth-round submission to Russian fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, after McGregor shared a picture with the rapper in 2018. Just months later, Drake shared a video of him working out while wearing a University Of Alabama hoodie in support of their college football team. Just a week later, the Roll Tide would lose 44-16 to the Clemson Tigers.

Needless to say, Argentina fans are on edge.

Check out some of the hilarious fan reactions above.

The World Cup Final takes place tomorrow at 10 a.m. EST. You can stream the game on Peacock.

SZA’s ‘SOS’ Behind-The-Scenes Video Reveals It Almost Featured Frank Ocean, Billie Eilish, And Many More

While SZA’s new sophomore album, SOS, features collabs from Phoebe Bridgers, Travis Scott, Don Toliver, and Ol’ Dirty Bastard, she recently revealed that she had way more in mind.

“Sometimes people turn in their verses and sometimes they don’t,” she said during an interview on Hot 97 via NME. “And a lot of people just like did not turn in their verses, but I’m grateful for who did.”

In a new youTube video titled “SOS Where The Hell Have You Been ?”, fans spotted a whiteboard in the behind-the-scenes footage of the album’s creation. And on it are the names of some major artists that could have been on the album.

Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Drake, Finneas, Frank Ocean, Halsey, Harry Styles, Kacey Musgraves, Kendrick Lamar, Olivia Rodrigo, Rosalía, Tyler, The Creator, and more are the big musicians that have been made out so far. And what a wild album that would’ve been… Or could be, in the future.

The whiteboard also has a section labeled Benchmarks where it lists RNB and Grunge (specifically, The Cardigans). You can also make out the words “murder them” which might be a reference to songs like “Kill Bill.” It also has the phrase “guard down.”

Defense Team of Man Charged in XXXTentacion’s Murder Names Drake, Joe Budden, and Migos As Witnesses

Drake Takes Down Another Record of The Beatles with "Staying Alive" feature

One of the four men charged with the murder and robbery of XXXtentacion and his defense team has named Drake, Joe Budden, Migos, and Tekashi 6ix9ine as witnesses, according to court documents.

According to the Miami Herald, the move is a stunt to create doubt in the case while hinging on rumors of beef between Drake and XXX. The names were submitted by Miami defense attorney Mauricio Padilla, representing 27-year-old getaway driver Dedrick Williams.

During court, the presiding judge, Broward Circuit Judge Michael Usan, questioned the relevancy of the stars. Prosecutors stated no addresses for the rappers were delivered for subpoenas, noting an ambush.

“It is apparent from the deliberate, late disclosure of the defendant’s witnesses and comments made between the parties that [the] defendant intended to ‘surprise’ the state and create a trial by ambush,” prosecutor Pascale Achille wrote.

“They are high-profile people. And it’s not easy for me to subpoena. I don’t have numbers, but it doesn’t mean I won’t be able to,” Padilla said to the court. “Trying to subpoena Drake is not easy. You need a drone.”

If the subpoenas are issued, Padilla must still provide evidence that each star’s appearance is necessary.

Charlamagne Tha God Calls Drake’s New Engagement Ring Chain ‘Maniac Behavior’ During ‘Hell of a Week’ Show

Charlamagne Tha God Calls Drake's New Engagement Ring Chain 'Maniac Behavior' During 'Hell of a Week' Show

Drake has a new chain that serves a purpose: commemorating every ex in his life. Hearing the news, Charlamagne Tha God reacted during his Hell of a Week show on Comedy Central.

“First of all, this is maniac behavior,” Drake said. “Just when I started beige brothers, the benefit of the doubt. This is the most waffle-colored negro thing anyone has every done in the history of waffle-colored negroes.”

Charlamagne continued while sliding in a slight jab at LeBron James and Jennifer Lopez.

“Drake, you have to let that hurt go. You have more almost rings than LeBron James. Most of us, unless your JLo, have one, maybe two people we want to get married to in our lifetime.”

You can hear it below.

Jewelry designer Alex Moss teamed with The Boy for a new chain called “Previous Engagements,” highlighting “all the times he thought about it but never did it.”

The necklace is made up of stones that would be in 42 engagement rings and is a total of 351.38 carats in diamonds.

Who would be on that list of engagements? A stacked list of Serena Williams, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, SZA, Keshia Chante, Bria Myles, Bernice Burgos, and more.

Drake, Quavo, Offset, And More Rappers Are Listed As Potential Witnesses In The XXXTentacion Murder Trial

Although four men were charged with rapper XXXTentacion’s 2018 murder, one of their defense attorneys, Mauricio Padilla, might be calling a list of famous names as potential witnesses. Drake, Quavo, Offset, Tekashi 6ix9ine, Joe Budden, and more were included in the official court filing.

The move, according to Billboard, comes because of XXX’s apparent beef with Drake in 2017, after believing the Canadian rapper stole the style for his song “KMT.” Even more eerily, four months before X’s death, he posted “If anyone tries to kill me it was @champagnepapi,” to his IG story — before claiming he was hacked. It’s still unclear what the rest did.

“They are high-profile people. And it’s not easy for me to subpoena. I don’t have numbers, but it doesn’t mean I won’t be able to,” Padilla said. “Trying to subpoena Drake is not easy — you need a drone.”

“It is apparent from the deliberate, late disclosure of the defendant’s witnesses and comments made between the parties that [the] defendant intended to ‘surprise’ the state and create a trial by ambush,” the prosecutor Pascale Achille shared, according to the Miami Herald.

However, before Drake and other big rap names would be required to actually show up to testify in court, Padilla has to provide relevance to the witness list and claims — which hasn’t happened yet.
