Drake Unleashes On Kendrick Lamar With “Family Matters” Diss

He didn’t even let Kendrick Lamar have a day. K. Dot dropped the diss “6:16 In L.A.” the morning of May 3, and Drake stole his thunder by dropping his response the same exact day. Not only that, the Toronto superstar dropped a music video too. He uploaded the track “Family Matters” to YouTube with a seven minute video that sees him pick up right where he left off with “Push Ups.” Literally. The beat switch at the end of Drake’s first diss serves as the intro beat on “Family Matters,” and he has a lot to say on it.

The writing was on the wall when Drake started posting messages on his Instagram Story. The rapper posted a clip from The Equalizer 2 in which the main character threatens to kill every one of his ops. He also posted an image of yellow caution tape. THEN DJ Akademiks began hyping up the release of the new song on X (formerly Twitter) and stream calls with Kai Cenat. Well, Drake made good on the hype and gave fans a song that’s even longer than Lamar’s “Euphoria.”

Drake Dropped A Music Video With His Latest Diss

Drake throws shots at The Weeknd, claiming that his music plays in all the spots where “boys got a little more pride,” but Dot is the main target. The title “Family Matters” riffs on the criticisms that Lamar made about his parenting skills. The music video also goes out of its way to upend this claim, with footage of Drake holding his son and walking around his mansion. The rapper ALSO dismisses the fact that K. Dot got a number one with “Like That,” claiming that he only did so because he was talking the 6 God. He even goes as far as to suggest that Lamar should give him the money he got from the song.

Like with every diss that’s been released thus far, the lyrics on “Family Matters” are dense. Drake has a lot to address, both in terms of enemies and the things Lamar said about him in the last week. It’s part of the fun. What we didn’t expect was the music video treatment. Drake has clearly been planning out this rollout for a while. We’re excited to see what this diss spawns next in the battle.

DJ Akademiks Teases Release Of Drake’s Response Diss Tonight

The music world is on the cusp of something huge. Drake has been dropping subtle digs at Kendrick Lamar all week. He’s hade to, frankly. The Compton rapper has been demolishing him on record with two diss tracks in the span of six days. DJHed got fans hyped up for the release of a Drake response on May 2, but DJ Akademiks shut the rumor down. He got on the phone with streamer Kai Cenat and told fans not to prepare for anything. Ak’s tune changed, however, on May 3.

DJ Akademiks once again got on the phone with Cenat, only this time he told the streamer to be ready. “Stay on stream,” he told him. “I’m at a concert, and I’m going home. Just stay on stream, gang.” Cenat realized what Ak was implying, and immediately hyped. “Say no more,” he responded. Akademiks hyped up the 6 God fanbase further by tweeting out “It’s happening” on X without any additional context. The internet personality was steadfast in dismissing the earlier release date, which makes his confidence on this particular night so encouraging. Seems like the real deal.

DJ Akademiks Is Hyping Up Drake’s Incoming Response

Drake has certainly been setting the stage for a diss track. Lamar started May 3 off with the surprise diss “6:16 In L.A.,” but Drake has been posting ominous messages to Dot on Instagram. He posted a clip from the film The Equalizer 2, followed by an image of yellow caution tape. Akademiks isn’t the only one who is fanning the flame. Mal, of the New Rory And Mal Podcast, posted a photo of a fallout shelter sign on X. No caption or additional context, just a sign that reads: “shelter in basement.”

Drake has been known to communicate with both Akademiks and Mal in the past. Ak has even shared text conversations between him and Drake on his live stream. It’s unclear whether the podcasters have an inside line to the OVO camp or if they are simply going on a hunch, but either way, May 3 looks to be a much more promising candidate for a drop than May 2.

Drake Continues To Troll Kendrick Lamar With Ominous IG Photo

Drake loves to play mind games on social media. He’s dropped plenty of diss tracks throughout his career (two in the last month, actually), but he understands the power of a meme. He’s mercilessly clowned Metro Boomin and Rick Ross on Instagram, but all the focus now seems to be on Kendrick Lamar. It’s easy to see why. Lamar broke his silence to bomb on Drake with two diss tracks in only a couple days. Drizzy has already confirmed a response is coming, but he wants to have fun with his competition in the meantime.

Drake posted a single, ominous image to his Instagram Story on May 3. The image was yellow caution tape. You know, the kind used to surround a crime scene. The Toronto rapper isn’t planning on getting violent with Lamar, but he definitely wants to strike fear in him. This implication of “lyrical homicide” is strong enough to be understood on its own, frankly. That being said, it takes on greater meaning when paired with the film clip Drake posted shortly before.

Drake Teased His Upcoming Diss With Caution Tape

The 6 God loves his film references, and took a line from The Equalizer 2 to convey how he was feeling. “So I’m gonna kill each and every one of you,” the character played by Denzel Washington states. “And the only disappointment in it for me is that I’m only gonna get to do it once.” If Drake plans to do as he says (or as Denzel’s character says), than he’s going to need lots of yellow tape. The scene takes on even greater context when taken as a response to Lamar’s diss “6:16 In L.A.” Lamar claimed that the Toronto rapper had moles in his camp. He went as far as to say that 20% of the people on his payroll want to see him fail.

The Equalizer 2 clip subsequently works on two different levels. The first, and most obvious, is that Drake is the Denzel character who is going to wreak havoc. The second is that Denzel’s character is visiting an old friend to let him know that he’s aware of his betrayal. The friend (played by Pedro Pascal) is actually the person receiving the chilling threat in the scene. It’s telling that Drake uses The Equalizer 2 as the film to communicate his side of things, while he used 10 Things I Hate About You to address Lamar’s “Euphoria” diss. It’s safe to assume we’re going to get more cryptic (or not so cryptic) IG posts until Drake drops.

Drake Producer Gordo Hypes Up His Kendrick Lamar Response

Gordo has become a staple on Drake’s 2020s catalog. The Guatemalan producer produced four tracks on Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind, and co-produced the single “Rich Baby Daddy” off For All the Dogs. He knows what he’s talking about when it comes to Drake’s creative process. This is why we’re excited to see that Gordo is cranking up the hype machine for the rapper’s upcoming response to Kendrick Lamar. Based on Lamar’s last two disses, the quality level is going to have to be high.

Kendrick Lamar shocked the world (again) on May 3 when he dropped the diss song “6:16 In L.A.” The song is the second diss aimed at Drake within a week, and borrows the title format of Drake’s beloved timestamp songs. At least, it attempts to (the song doesn’t match Drake’s AM/PM pattern). We digress. “6:16 In L.A.” was an Instagram exclusive, which led Gordo to post an ominous comment under the song. “The world is not ready,” he wrote. This falls in line with a similar comment made by 50 Cent. The rapper, who has been supporting Drake throughout the battle, claimed that there was a “bomb” on the way. “Oh sh*t it’s lit Kendrick went again,” he wrote. “I heard Drake got a [bomb] waiting.”

Gordo Is Excited For Drake To Clap Back

People firmly planted on the team Kendrick side of things can dismiss Gordo’s claims. Those wanting to see the battle continue to escalate, however, will be thrilled. Gordo has spoken highly of Drake’s musical abilities for years, as evidenced by his 2022 interview with GQ. The producer’s ties to the beef become more interesting when considering his proximity to “First Person Shooter.” Gordo didn’t actually work on the song, but he told the outlet that he was present the night Drake and J. Cole recorded it.

I texted [Drake], and when he replied at 4pm I was already in the kitchen at his house,” the producer recalled. “I played him the beat [for “Sticky”] and he was like, ‘Woah.’ At that moment J. Cole walked in because he was at the house playing basketball. They recorded that night.” The collab between Drake and Cole is credited with jumpstarting the Kendrick Lamar battle. This theory gained even more traction on May 2, when DJ Akademiks revealed that Lamar was originally supposed to be on the song. Lamar turned down the offer, and promptly dissed the other two rappers on “Like That.” It sounds like Gordo has a front row seat to what comes next.

Kendrick Lamar Vs. Drake Inspires Hilarious Memes Following The Release Of “6:16 In LA”

Kendrick Lamar has been on a mission to take down Drake as of late. Overall, it almost felt like Lamar was never going to respond to Drake. After all, he has never fully involved himself in a rap feud. However, with “Euphoria,” Lamar proved everyone wrong. He delivered a scathing new track and fans were absolutely mesmerized by what he was able to do. On Friday, Kendrick decided to double down with a back-to-back-style track. “6:16 In LA” is a title with numerous potential meanings, and it has fans expecting a massive response from Drake.

Throughout this song, Kendrick mostly plays in Drake’s paranoia. In the past, Drizzy has spoken about being paranoid. With this new song, Lamar makes the claim that people within Drake’s camp want to see him fail and that they are feeding him information. Even if this is not true, it is certainly going to make the Canadian megastar think twice about whom he lets into his circle. Psychologically, this is a great angle for Kendrick, and fans are echoing those sentiments right now.

Kendrick Lamar Plays 4D Chess With Drake By Including Taylor Swift’s Producer On “6:16 In LA”

Kendrick Lamar delivered a scathing takedown of Drake on the song “Euphoria.” This was released on Tuesday, early in the morning. Overall, fans couldn’t help but be mesmerized by just how much of a hater Kendrick truly is. After all, he has been gearing up for this beef for about 10 years now. However, no one could have predicted just how battle-ready he is. In fact, on Friday, Kendrick decided to double down with a new track called “6:16 In LA.” It was a bold move, albeit one that is paying off in the eyes of the fans.

Now that this new song has been released, fans are looking for some hidden meanings. As it turns out, Kendrick has given fans plenty to analyze. In fact, the producers of this new song are drawing quite a bit of attention. As you can see down below, Sounwave and Jack Antonoff are responsible for this song. This is very interesting as Antonoff is known for being Taylor Swift’s main producer. With Drake roasting Kendrick for his proximity to Taylor, it seems as though Kendrick is trying to be a bit cheeky here.

Kendrick Lamar Is Quite Literally “Taylor Made”

It is one of those easter eggs that you cannot help but laugh at. Furthermore, it is too much of a coincidence to simply dismiss. At a quick glance, it seems like this is all very calculated. Kendrick has never done things just to do them. There is always a reason and motive behind everything he does. With “6:16 In LA,” that could not be any clearer.

Let us know what you think of Kendrick Lamar including Jack Antonoff as a producer on the song, in the comments section down below. Kendrick Lamar Continues To Whale On Drake With Stunning Diss “6:16 In LA”

Kendrick Lamar lived up to a “promise” he made to himself on “euphoria” just a couple of days ago. “Back To Back,” I like that record / I’ma get back to that, for the record.” It turns out he really did have something else cooking, as Kendrick Lamar has just dropped “6:16 in LA.” The song was released on his Instagram just about an hour ago, and like “euphoria,” it is sending the internet into a frenzy.

“6:16 in LA” sees K-Dot ride a more laid-back instrumental with some pretty synths, minimal drums and guitar, as well as a soulful vocal loop. As for the disses, Lamar takes aim at the Drake stans like DJ Akademiks, “Yeah, somebody’s lyin’, I could see the vibes on Ak’ / Even he lookin’ compromised, let’s peel the layers back.” He also suggests that people over at OVO are working for him and praying on Drake’s downfall in this beef. “Have you ever thought that OVO was workin’ for me?Everyone inside your team is whispering that you deserve it / Can’t “Toosie Slide” up out of this one, it’s just gon’ resurface.”

Kendrick also calls out how The Boy has been using memes to poke and prod him to respond. “You’re playin’ dirty with Zack Bia and Twitter bots / But your reality can’t hide behind Wi-Fi / Your lil’ memes is losing steam, they figured you out.” As for the title of the track, Genius feels this is another reference to something that Drake is known for. What we mean is “euphoria” was calling back to the Netflix show Euphoria, something that he had a hand in. “6:16 in LA” plays on the timestamp series that Drake has. There is a lot more to breakdown with this surprise release, so be sure to stick around.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “6:16 in LA” by Kendrick Lamar? Are you surprised that he dissed Drake again so quickly, why or why not? Timid soul, stare in the mirror, askin’ where I was from
Austin, I know this type of power is gon’ cost, but I live in cicadian rhythms of a shooting star

But I pick the carcass apart
Yeah, somebody’s lyin’, I could see the vibes on Ak’
Even he lookin’ compromised, let’s peel the layers back

Kendrick Lamar Goes Back To Back On Drake With”6:16 In LA,” Fans React To Kendrick’s Second Diss Track

Kendrick Lamar delivered a diss track called “Euphoria” on Tuesday and it immediately sent the hip-hop world into a frenzy. Overall, this is a song that fans were hoping for given Drake’s lyrical assault on “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle.” In the end, “Euphoria” proved to be a massive win for Kendrick, as most fans have him up right now. On Friday, however, Kendrick decided to double down. He hinted that he would on “Euphoria,” although fans were not taking the threat seriously. As it turns out, they should have been.

Today, we got “6:16 In LA.” This is not a scathing and energetic takedown like “Euphoria.” Instead, it is a laid back track that is meant to poke the bear and inspire some paranoia within Drake. For instance, Kendrick takes shots at the OVO operation, claiming that there are double agents who are now working for him. He claims that Drake’s inner circle wants to see him fail. Moreover, he claims the OVO camp has tried to find dirt on Kendrick, but they have come up empty as he lives a pretty boring life.

Drake Fans Accuse Kendrick Lamar Of Stealing Battle Rappers’ Lines

Debate is raging heavily online over the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef, especially now that the latter went back to back and dropped another diss on Friday morning (May 3). Both fanbases are going wild for their fav, with some going on a slippery slope by trying to discredit some of the bars on the first K.Dot diss, “euphoria.” For example, folks pulled up some videos of various rap battles in which competitors use the “I hate” repetition from the song’s refrain, the “park your son” bar, and the YNW Melly bar. While this is not necessarily an invalid critique, someone should make a compilation of all the “Interscope (in the scope) Aftermath” MJ, and Whitney Houston Bodyguard bars that rappers have spit over the years, all of which land on “Push Ups.”

Furthermore, we don’t say that to hate on Drake, but to point out that this is a flawed argument no matter which way you frame it. His previous ghostwriting claims don’t matter either, as Kendrick Lamar also faced some since-debunked ghostwriting rumors amid this beef. If you hold hip-hop up to unrealistic originality standards in the art of wordplay, you would deprive many listeners of their first time hearing classic bars on more popular records. The ghostwriting issue occurs most frequently when you’re not backing up your homages with striking idiosyncrasy on your other bars, or when you pay them too often in succession.

Drake Fans Think Kendrick Lamar Is Biting Battle Rap: See Replies For Reactions

Of course, we’re sure that Drake will probably have at least one or two bars on whatever he cooks up next that are tributes or references to other bars, or are just more common metaphors or similes than one would think. None of them will discredit him from the beef, and Kendrick Lamar jabbing him for the same reason would fall equally as flat. All that being said, there is still valid critique to be made about “euphoria” and its lyrical content. So if you’re an OVO soldier, don’t give up: you might still get naysayers on your side.

Meanwhile, as the rest of the hip-hop world continues to debate “euphoria,” the brand new diss, and how this beef has progressed so far, we can only guess as to whether there’s another round. Will there be a big revelation like both MCs have teased and warned the other about? Or is this purely a lyrical battle? We’ll see what we see when the smoke clears.
