Dr Umar Accused Of Posting Fake Text Message From Kamala Harris’ Campaign

Dr. Umar Johnson is a very popular and often divisive voice in Black culture these days. Whether it’s his thoughts on the rap battle between Kendrick Lamar and Drake or, in this case, his thoughts on politics, he’s always making waves for his staunch perspectives. But a lot of folks think that the psychologist and social media personality was too quick to hop in that conversation. Moreover, he posted a screenshot of an alleged text message that the Kamala Harris campaign sent him to link up, along with his enthusiastic response. However, many reacted to this post by doubting that this was actually from the Harris campaign. Did Dr. Umar fall for the trick or is he trying to make this conversation happen through some Internet hijinks?

“Hello Dr. Umar Johnson. [redacted] from the Harris2024 team,” the alleged text message from the Kamala Harris campaign to Dr. Umar began, sent at 10:30PM local time. “You are a big part part of the Black community. Can you help us by completing a Zoom meeting with VP Kamala Harris. Paying [redacted]. We are looking for about an hour of your time. Please advise if you would like to complete the Zoom call. Your help can get us across the finish line. HARRIS2024.” Scroll through the replies in the Twitter post below to see folks’ skepticism.

Dr. Umar’s Alleged Text Exchange With Kamala Harris’ Campaign

“Peace & PanAfrikanism,” Dr. Umar responded at 11:45PM local time. “I hope that all is well. I’m not interested in your money. However, I am very interested in having the zoom conversation with Vice President Harris to discuss our needs and her plans for the Black community. This zoom must be livecasted to the national Black community and may not be prerecorded. I promise to be completely respectful of the Vice President but I will ask direct questions about miseducation, mass incarceration, police brutality, economic strangulation, gentrification/migrant crisis, reparations & and [sic] the need for a federal anti-Black Hate Crimes Bill.”

Other figures like Meek Mill might share some of Dr. Umar’s sentiments. “I wanna ask Kamala Harris questions about her past as a da. Even if she had to be tough….” he recently tweeted. “All I hear is rumors of her. I would ask her 3 questions about black and brown men going to prison. And her views and try to help her understand from a survival standpoint point she may have never had to encounter!”

Jay-Z Ripped Apart By Dr. Umar For Tom Brady’s HOF Induction Performance

Last month, Jay-Z put on a little performance at Tom Brady’s New England Patriot’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony. He played his iconic track, “Public Service Announcement”, which the seven-time Super Bowl champion walked out to back at his old stomping grounds, Gillette Stadium. Fast forward to the end of July and Dr. Umar, the reputable and outspoken activist, is now sharing some scathing comments for Jay-Z’s involvement. According to HipHopDX, he vented his disappointment in the New York native in an interview with The Art Of Dialogue, focusing on the fact that if he’s going to “celebrate the white man, you should’ve came and celebrated the Black man”.

The “Black man” Dr. Umar is referring to is Hip-Hop’s 50th Anniversary. “You have no right celebrating Tom Brady’s NFL career and at the same time not perform at the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop”, Umar expressed. I believe that JAY-Z owed it to Hip Hop to perform at the 50th anniversary”. Later on, the social media personality went on to share that he hopes that the billionaire isn’t trying to distance himself from the Black community. “And I just hope JAY-Z isn’t suffering from Black male narcissism. You know, we get successful, and we start thinking we God and we’re better than other Blacks and we’re too good to be around other Blacks”.

Dr. Umar Obliterates Jay-Z

Umar then warned Jay further, “So I hope Mr. Shawn Carter remembers his roots and the Marcy Projects in Brooklyn, and I hope he remembers everything he had to go through to get where he is… A lot of people helped JAY-Z get where he got, and for him not to come and pay homage, that was wrong”. On top of the reasons he listed, Umar also mentioned how Hov’s affiliation with the NFL is essentially a betrayal. “You have no right — no right — honoring a white man, Tom Brady, who’s never done anything of significance for the Black community, and the NFL, who has destroyed Black men’s careers, Colin Kaepernick included, and continues to do so”. In the end, he went on to say how a free concert for hip-hop heads would help make up for his wrongdoing.

What are your thoughts on the criticism from Dr. Umar about Jay-Z performing for Tom Brady but at none of the Hip-Hop 50th Anniversary events? Do you think the activist’s comments are justified or out of line and why? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Dr. Umar Wants Drake To Clarify His Racial Identity

Dr. Umar has called on Drake to confirm his racial identity. Speaking about the Toronto rapper and his feud with Kendrick Lamar in a new video on social media, Umar requested that Drake explain whether he identifies as Black or mixed-race. He offered to speak with him when he visits Canada later this year.

“For my brother Drake, I need you to clarify whether or not you are a Black man,” Umar said, as caught by HipHopDX. “Some people are claiming my brother Drake, who I love and respect, that you embrace a mixed-race identity, that you do not embrace a Black-first identity. So, I have to ask my brother Drake to clear the record for me, Dr. Umar Ifatunde. Maybe we can have a sit down when I come to Toronto on October 5th and 6th, but I need you to clarify that for me, brother Drake. Brother Drake, I need you to clarify: are you a Black-first Black man? Or do you identify as mixed race? Or do you identify as untouchable first? Do you primarily identify as an untouchable? Do you identify as mixed race? Or are you a Black-first Black man?”

Umar concluded: “I need to know this, my brother Drake. You have to clarify this for me. Some people believe you only claim Black when it’s convenient. I’ve never seen you do that but I don’t follow you that closely.” They weren’t the only comments Umar made on the viral feud. He also issued a request for Kendrick Lamar, asking that the Compton rapper clarify whether he meant to diss all Black Canadians with his song, “Not Like Us.”

Dr. Umar Questions Kendrick Lamar’s Intention With “Not Like Us”

Dr. Umar discussed the meaning behind Kendrick Lamar’s hit diss track, “Not Like Us,” during a recent video on social media. In doing so, he discussed the topic of Pan-Africanism and the idea that Lamar was dissing Black Canadians. He admitted that he felt Lamar was just trying to diss Drake, but asked the Compton rapper for clarification on the situation in response.

“Let me say this to the American African and the Canadian African: We are one people,” he began. “We are one family. We have one common ancestry. We have one common origin. We have one common source. We are the original people. My American Africans, don’t you alienate yourself from Canadian Africans. Canadian Africans, don’t you alienate yourself from American Africans. We are one family. We are the North American Africans.” He added that anyone suggesting otherwise is an “enemy” to himself and African people. Despite not believing Lamar to have intended to say as much, he still asked for his clarification.

When The Art of Dialogue shared the video on X (formerly Twitter), many fans argued that Umar was off base with his assessment of Lamar’s lyrics. “I don’t think he understands what Kendrick was talking about lol,” one user wrote. Another added: “He obviously missed the song Meet The Grahams where Kendrick rapped directly to Adonis calling him a Black Man. No Disrespect was sent to Black Canadians. Please listen to the whole battle and not the snippets.”

Nick Cannon Criticized By Dr. Umar For Wearing Women’s Clothing

Earlier this week, Nick Cannon dropped the newest episode of his show Counsel Culture. This time he had Dr. Umar on the show with him and he discussed a variety of subjects with the divisive culture critic and activist. In on particularly notable conversation, Cannon brings up wearing women’s clothes at earlier points in his career. For anybody familiar with Umar’s politics, it won’t be a surprise that the revelation didn’t sit right with him. He explained to Cannon on his own show how he disagreed with the notion.

“If we will admit that entertainment is a weapon of indoctrination in an age where we see a war against not only the life of Black men but the survival of Black masculinity, how can a Black man putting on a dress not be a problem?” Umar begins. Cannon tries to counter suggesting that it may not be the worst thing for some men to show a feminine side. “I want us to make sure we draw a distinction between feminine energy and female sexuality,” Umar responds. He transitions that into a discussion about media and how it impacts black children more as they consume more television than any other ethnic group. Check out the full episode of Counsel Culture below.

Dr. Umar’s Response Nick Cannon Wearing Women’s Clothes

For most fans, the most well-known thing about Nick Cannon is how many children he has. His 12 kids across 6 different mothers has become the punchline of many jokes about Cannon, but he seems in on the joke. In fact, he’s even willing to make the jokes himself. He went viral earlier this week for a comment about potential kid number 13 with Joseline Hernandez. Unsurprisingly, Cannon claims he’s racking up quite a significant Disneyland bill every year.

What do you think of Dr. Umar and Nick Cannon’s Conversation? Do you think it was wrong for Umar to critique him so directly on his own show? Let us know in the comment section below.

Lil Yachty & Dr. Umar Debate Use Of The N-Word

Lil Yachty debated the use of the n-word with Dr. Umar after inviting the polarizing social media personality on his podcast, A Safe Place. While Yachty argued that his use of the word in his music and personal life is about reclamation, Umar argued it’s an example of “Post Traumatic Slavery Disease.”

“Show me another group of people who will fight for the right to continue to use a word that the government itself codified as a psychological word of mass destruction against your people,” Dr. Umar began. “It’s because of your Post Traumatic Slavery Disease.” On the other side, Yachty argued: “I was thinking it was a thing of almost just the swag and confidence that African Americans have that look like some, ‘F*ck y’all, we gon’ take the sh*t y’all use to break us down with and let you know that it don’t have no power over us.’”

Welcoming Umar on his podcast comes as the show continues to grow in popularity. Yachty has spoken with J. Cole, Lucki, Veeze, Sexyy Red, and many more artists in recent months. In addition to A Safe Place, Yachty is also hard at work on a new collaborative project with James Blake titled Bad Cameo. “I mean, granted, I think James has worked with a quite substantial amount of Hip Hop artists. But this project is so left for both of us,” he said. “And then, aside from the one picture that James posted, which — he doesn’t have many followers actually — I don’t think people know that we know each other exist. So it’s just gon’ be like, ‘What the fuck?! When they do this?’”

Boosie Badazz Says “The Trenches” Don’t Listen To Eminem

Boosie Badazz says that people where he’s from don’t listen to Eminem. During an interview with Cam Capone News published on Tuesday, he discussed Dr. Umar’s polarizing criticism of the rapper. While Boosie admits the legendary artist has talent, he doesn’t feel the music resonates with his neighborhood in Baton Rouge.

“Where I’m from, we don’t listen to Eminem,” Boosie said. “I’m from the trenches. I never heard nobody come into my project playing Eminem. I’ma keep it real.” He further added: “When I hear him, I say, ‘He can rap.’ I always say that. I used to like that song ‘Slim Shady.’ But where I’m from? I’ve never heard one song in my project. I never heard Eminem not one time in the speakers in my project. None of my friends never said, ‘Play that new Eminem.’ I only saw him on MTV, you know, TV.”

While Boosie isn’t a fan of Eminem himself, he still understands that his music has impacted a lot of people. “Everybody has their greats. If you put 10 people lined up on this couch, everybody gon’ tell you five different greats,” he said. “Eminem’s music has touched a lot of people. DMX‘s music has touched a lot of people. DMX is in my Top 5 ’cause I always felt, listening to his music, that he really lived that. Even though I wasn’t from New York, my street n****s still saluted him and played his music.” Check out Boosie’s full comments on Eminem below.

Tony Yayo Praises Eminem & Takes Issue With Dr. Umar’s Criticism

Tony Yayo says Eminem is one of the five best rappers of all time. He shared the praise while discussing Dr. Umar’s recent criticism of the legendary artist during an interview with VladTV. Umar had argued to Joe Budden that Em can’t be considered an all-time great because he’s white.

“I don’t agree with that,” Yayo began. “I f*ck with Dr. Umar but I don’t have to agree with everything he says. I don’t agree with that. Eminem in my top 5 of MCs. And that’s not because I’m down with him and not because you got the “Free Yayo” shirt on. It don’t have nothing to do with that. I was an Eminem fan once I heard ‘Renegade.’ That was it for me. Once I heard him rhyme against Jay.”

Yayo then argues that Eminem out-rapped JAY-Z on the song. “I’ma say Em, for me,” he said before adding, “Em always hold his own but then when I seen Em with 50, do songs with 50, and was hearing how he was coming. When I heard the footsteps for ‘Many Men.’ He got that from Poltergeist or something. Eminem is like– Nobody wanna battle that n***a.” From there, he discussed 50 Cent bringing Eminem out on tour in Detroit, last year. He put Eminem in a group with Drake, 50 Cent, and Snoop Dogg as artists who can draw massive crowds. Check out the full interview with VladTV below.

Tony Yayo Disagrees With Dr. Umar

Elsewhere in the interview, Yayo discussed his relationship with 50 Cent and joining the rapper on his Final Lap Tour. He revealed that he made “six figures” as the opening act. Ed Lover Defends Eminem Following Dr. Umar’s Criticism

Ed Lover has come to Eminem’s defense by questioning Dr. Umar’s credentials to speak on hip-hop during an episode of the C’Mon Son! podcast. Umar previously attributed Eminem’s status as one of the greatest rappers of all time to “white supremacy.”

“Where did you get your doctorate?” he asked on the show, rhetorically. “What makes you a doctor? And then, where did you come from and what makes you a[n] authority on hip-hop? Now Eminem don’t need Dr. Umar to tell him he’s one of the greatest of all time because we’ve already have said it. hip hop is for everybody. hip hop might’ve been created by Black people, but the love of music, melodies and rhymes have spread all over this world.”

He added: “That’s like saying [Big] Pun can’t be one of the greatest of all time because he’s not African American, ’cause he’s Puerto Rican; Fat Joe don’t deserve to be in hip hop because he’s not African American. You weren’t there, Dr. Umar, respectively. You were not there.” Lover is far from the only one to speak out against Umar’s comments. The controversial figure eventually defended himself on Instagram Live, explaining that he still views Eminem as a talented artist. However, he says his remarks “apply to any non-African” in the genre. Check out Ed Lover’s full response to Dr. Umar below.

MC Shan Dismisses Dr. Umar’s Eminem Comments: “You Know That N***a Nice”

The GOAT debate is one of the pillars of hip-hop community discussion, and one contender in particular carries more baggage than most. Eminem is widely respected as one of the most impactful and skilled lyricists in rap history, but his status as the biggest rapper paired with the fact that he’s white doesn’t sit well with many. Dr. Umar Johnson recently reopened this grievance, saying that to call Em the best rapper of all time would be “white supremacy.” Many took issue with this dismissal, including Queensbridge legend MC Shan, who recently blasted Umar on Instagram Live on Saturday (December 30).

“Mister motherf***ing Umar, you just make everything a race thing, n***a,” MC Shan exclaimed. “Everything ain’t no f***ing race thing. Eminem– motherf***er, you know that n***a nice. Em deserves a motherf***ing slot in this game! Em wasn’t no rich motherf***er that come and rob the rap game, and step off. Em motherf***ing came in this motherf***er, he had more problems than any Black n***a. His plate was just as f***ed up as some of us in the Black community. Nobody’s robbing us.

MC Shan Defends Eminem Against Dr. Umar’s Dismissal: Watch

“If you don’t wanna respect him, you do what you do, n***a,” MC Shan continued. “We don’t f**k with you anyway like that, n***a. We talk our hip-hop s**t. You talking Black racial, Black f***ing culture rhythm. Yeah, we on that, but n***a, we don’t f**k with that s**t. Leave us over here. Em is down with us, son.” Furthermore, this is ironic because, in his double-down of this perspective, Umar made it clear that he has no personal issue with Eminem. His artistry is undeniable, but he called to attention people who call him the best, which to him is blasphemous.

Meanwhile, Shan got out of a feud with Nas earlier this year, so maybe there will be a reconciliation with the media figure down the line. Both men are definitely not alone in their indignation, and it’s a conversation that might persist for the rest of time. As long as Slim Shady is relevant and beloved, we’ll get so many differing perspectives on what his legacy should be. On that note, come back to HNHH for more news and updates on Eminem, Dr. Umar, and MC Shan.
