Danny Brown Said Going To Rehab For Alcoholism ‘Humbled The F*ck Out Of Me’

When last we heard from Danny Brown, the Detroit rapper was checking himself into rehab for alcohol abuse. In March, Danny told fans he was voluntarily seeking treatment as he had overstepped during a recent episode of his podcast which he’d filmed while drunk. “Alcohol is something I need to be done with cause it makes me hurt the people that care the most,” he admitted.

Well, he’s returned with a new episode of The Danny Brown Show in which he addresses going to treatment head-on. He called the experience “humbling” while saying it gave him a newfound appreciation for his work, especially compared to some of those who were also in the program with him.

“Being in treatment… one thing it did do: It humbled the f*ck out of me,” he said. “It made me real f*ckin’ umm… Just showed a lot of gratitude. I got a cool-ass life, man. Hearin’ other motherf*ckers stories… ‘Cause a lot of these motherf*ckers that’s in there, they had drinking problems, drug problems, they gotta go back to work…. I have one of the best jobs in the f*cking world. I was taking a lot of sh*t for granted.”

It’s good to see Danny focused and grateful ahead of his upcoming tour with Jpegmafia. They may be scaring the hoes, but at least it’ll be for the right reason. You can watch the full episode of The Danny Brown Show up top.

Jpegmafia And Danny Brown Will Be ‘Scaring The Hoes’ Nationwide On A 2023 US Summer Tour

Danny Brown Says He’s Going To Rehab After Recent Podcast Comments

Danny Brown went in on his label and management during the latest episode of The Danny Brown Show. However, after urging fans to launch the #FreeDanny campaign, he’s back-peddling his comments. The rapper accused Warp Records and his manager, Dart Parker, of delaying the release of Quaranta. He said that he turned the album in without any sign of urgency from his label. Shortly after, he urged fans to put an end to the hashtag, admitting that he drunkenly made these statements. As a result, Danny Brown said that he would be entering a rehab facility for his struggles with alcohol abuse.

“Aye chill out with all the #FreeDanny shit I was drunk and talking shit and that’s why my dumb ass is checking into treatment tomorrow got nothing but love for dart and warp so chill out the album is mastered,” the XXX rapper tweeted. A fan later brought up the fact that he told fans to “harass Dart.” In response, Danny Brown explained his comments are why he needs to seek treatment. “That’s why alcohol is something I need to be done with cause it makes me hurt the people that care the most,” he wrote.

Danny Brown Confirms Rehab Stint

Danny Brown never shied away from discussing his struggles with substance abuse throughout his career. Unfortunately, he became known for that as he blew up. However, the rapper confirmed in the past few weeks that he would admit himself into rehab. In an earlier episode of his podcast, he revealed that he would enter a treatment facility soon. He confirmed the news during his appearance at SXSW as he and JPEGMAFIA began the rollout for Scaring The Hoes. He apologized to fans if they felt encouraged to consume drugs due to his music.

“At the end of the day, I’m 42 years old, sitting around smoking blunts all day, and getting drunk is getting old. Y’all have y’all fun but sh*t could get dark,” Danny Brown explained on stage, per Vibe. “I’m going to get help. Honestly, my dumba*s supposed to been gone, but I’m broke so I gotta do shows to take my a*s in, so shoutout to Dr. Martens… I’ma go do my lil time, but I will say this, I made so many songs about doing drugs … sometimes I feel bad about that shit … if I fu**ed your life up, I’m sorry.” Prayers up for Danny Brown during this time.

Danny Brown Declared He Needs ‘To Be Done With’ Alcohol And Is Seeking Treatment

Danny Brown opened up about why his much-anticipated album, Quaranta, is taking so long to release and a personal issue he has been facing.

On a recent episode of his podcast The Danny Brown Show, he shared that he had turned in the album to his label Warp Records two years ago, but claimed that the label didn’t see the album as a priority. He also instructed listeners to tweet #FreeDanny and #FreeQuaranta at his manager, Dart Parker.

Yesterday (March 28), Brown took to Twitter to instruct his fans to relent, and to reveal that he is seeking treatment over his alcohol use.

“Aye chill out with all the #FreeDanny sh*t,” he wrote. “I was drunk and talking sh*t and that’s why my dumb ass is checking into treatment tomorrow got nothing but love for dart and warp so chill out the album is mastered.”

A fan then brought up the podcast and Brown’s directive to send messages to his manager. Brown replied, saying, “That’s why alcohol is something I need to be done with cause it makes me hurt the people that care the most.”

According to Vibe, during his recent Dr. Martens-sponsored SXSW set, Brown revealed his plans to seek treatment. He revealed he planned to use the fees he earned for his performances to pay for treatment.

“Honestly, my dumb ass supposed to been gone, but I’m broke so I gotta do shows to take my ass in, so shout out to Dr. Martens,” he said.

The news arrives just days after Brown released Scaring The Hoes, a joint album with Jpegmafia.

Danny Brown Blames Record Label & Management For Holding Back “Quaranta”

We really haven’t lacked any new music from Danny Brown in the four years since releasing Uknowhatimsayin? He pushed several releases under the Bruiser Brigade umbrella that he also feature on while recently teaming up with JPEGMAFIA for their joint project, Scaring The Hoes: Vol. 1. Still, fans are awaiting Quaranta, an album intended to serve as a spiritual successor to 2011’s XXX. Unfortunately, it appears that there’s a lack of urgency surrounding its release.

During the latest episode of the Danny Brown Show podcast, the Detroit native revealed that he already turned Quaranta in to his label, Warped Records, though they, nor his management, have provided him with a detailed outline of the album’s release schedule. “Y’all gotta understand, me working with Warped – I don’t know with Warped and my management, man. I turned my album in two years ago” he explained.

Danny Brown Says He’s Still Working On “Quaranta”

Though Danny revealed that he handed in the album, the lack of urgency to release it has him tinkering and working on it further. “I will say, we’re still working on the album and shit’s getting doper but at this point, man, it’s like where’s the urgency?” he said. The Atrocity Exhibition rapper wanted his fans to reach out to Warped Records and Dart Parker, who he says deserves the majority of the blame for the album’s delay, with the hashtags #FreeDanny and #FreeQuaranta.

“At this point, it’s like shit, just put the Peggy album out. Y’all bullshittin’. Why y’all holdin’ me up for? The album been done, been out, so I almost feel like they shelved my shit,” Danny Brown continued. “‘Cause that’s what happens a lot of times. They shelf my shit and don’t wanna tell me.” At this point, Danny encouraged his fans to leave Dart Parker’s social media in shambles in an attempt to get Quaranta an official release date.

Danny Calls Out Warped Records

Danny also alleged that Warped Records is now upset with him over the release of Scaring The Hoes: Vol. 1 since it didn’t actually release through their imprints. “They all hating about this Peggy shit because… they ain’t got nothin’ to do with this,” he continued. Danny explained that they intentionally held up Quaranta to prevent the release of his joint album with JPEGMAFIA, comparing his situation to Lil Wayne’s ahead of Tha Carter III. Jpegmafia And Danny Brown’s Chaotic ‘Lean Beef Patty’ Puts Their Own Spin On A Resurgent Sample

Over the past year or so, elder millennials have been dismayed to learn that the 15-year sample cycle has finally gotten to some of our high school classics. Ice Spice, the rap it-girl of the moment, snatched a sample of Diddy’s “I Need A Girl, Part 2” for one of her latest viral favorite singles, “Gangsta Boo” with Lil Tjay, and now, another pair of rappers from the opposite end of the spectrum have hijacked the sample for their own use.

Jpegmafia, who is pretty well known for his love of unusual sounds and contrarian approaches to popular hip-hop, teams up with Danny Brown for “Lean Beef Patty,” a chaotic track that speeds up the 2002 hit and combines it with a pounding, electronic synth to truly unsettling effect. The self-produced track is set to appear on Jpeg and Danny’s upcoming joint project, Scaring The Hoes, Vol. 1, which is named after a popular meme about playing unusual rap music at parties and “scaring the hoes.” Both rappers know a thing or two about this sort of unfair characterization.

But if unconventional rap music is your thing, you could do worse than a joint album featuring the two hip-hop mischief makers. You can pre-order Scaring The Hoes here.
